Absolutely fantastic bed and breakfast in Cambridge.  If you are looking to explore the other side of the Charles without spending an arm and a leg, come here.  Our stay was fantastic from beginning to end.

From the moment I made the reservation over the phone, the staff was kind and helpful.  They provided us directions from the T, told us about local restaurants, and carried our heavy suitcases up the stairs.  We were able to check-in early and our room was pretty large and very cozy.

The ambiance of the entire house was welcoming.  My boyfriend attested that the Harding House made you want to stay in and relax instead of going and seeing the sites.  This may be in part to the fact that they offer complimentary wine and cheese service at any time if you like.  We had brought our own bottle of wine to celebrate a special occasion, and they gladly chilled it in their refrigerator and brought up a cheese plate to accompany it when we were ready.

The breakfast is quite ample, and should satisfy varying tastes.  Offerings included fresh made yogurt parfaits, hard-boiled eggs, cereals, breakfast breads, fruit salad and yogurt.

The price was also quite reasonable for the area.  It is within walking of a plethora of restaurants and bars in the area.  The Harding House website also has a corresponding blog that profiles local businesses.

Overall, a great experience.  If you are searching for an economical, homey place to stay in Cambridge, look no further.

Great local B&B.  I live right down the street, so my family has stayed here when they visit me.  For Xmas one year, I bought my dad a gift certificate to the Harding House and they couldn't have been nicer to both of us.  My dad had a really nice stay, and the breakfast was great.  I came to meet them in the morning, and the owners let me eat with them even though I wasn't a guest.  I offered to pay but they didn't charge me.

It's very convenient for Cambridge or Boston visits- it's a three min walk from Central Square and the Red Line, one min from the 1 bus, and ten min from Harvard Square, on a really nice quiet residential street.  They have free parking for guests, and museum passes that we didn't take advantage of.

This little bed and breakfast is our home away from home in the Boston area. Rooms are equipped with antiques and oriental rugs. Beds are new and comfortable. They try to be green in many ways. Wireless internet available in most rooms, but the ones way in back have weak signal.

History

Established in 1997

In the spring of 1996, we discovered the two family house at 288-289 Harvard Street in a sore state of disrepair. But it still had good bones, a wonderful location and lots of possibilities. With a neighborhood renaissance in full swing, we knew that this house could become a central place of respite and welcome in mid-Cambridge.

After years of successfully operating the nearby Irving House, we decided to build this lovely Victorian into a comfortable haven for visitors from near and far. To celebrate its historical character, we named it in honor of Isaac Harding, a local grocer who commissioned the two-family structure for himself and his daughter in 1867. Although completely modernized, many of the early architectural details were preserved. Harding House opened in the fall of 1997 and since then, it's been 'home away from home' for thousands of travelers from across the globe. We look forward to welcoming you next!

As busy as my days might get it's always nice to come to work and share my favorite restaurant with a guest or research the next recipe to serve for breakfast. The family we have created at Harding House call this old Victorian house our collective home away from home. I love that at the heart of it, we know that we are hosting guests in our "home".
