The Harborview Inn was well-named, pre-big grey church construction days. Now, Big Grey Church View Inn is apt. BGCVI, henceforth.
Great location, between downtown and that hard to view harbor. Pretty thin walls, could hear the neighbors' bathroom fan whirring all night. On the upside, the fan noise acted as white noise to drown out the traffice noise from 3rd Ave. Not that 3rd Ave. in Seward, AK is anything like the Jersey Turnpike, but if you're a light sleeper, you might appreciate this.
Also, I was grateful that the three Italian guys I passed on the street who were carrying the four six packs of Stella Artois were NOT staying at BGCVI. Italians+beer+World Cup on cable=sleepless night.
The room was clean and comfortable. Amenities included cable t.v., hairdryer, and coffee maker. A few Alaska decor touches, like iron lamps with bear cut-outs rounded out the BGCVI experience.
It still kills me that it cost $149/night, but this is summer in Alaska, and I don't do campgrounds unless an RV is involved. I am at the mercy of the tourists, for whom I am thankful, since they're what keeps places like Seward thriving.
I would stay here again and recommend it to friends and Mr. or Ms. Money-Bag Tourist.
