6 reviews for Harbor Lite Lodge
We rented a vacation home but the bed was HORRIBLE so we went into Fort Bragg to find something else. When we saw the location of Harbor Lite Lodge we decided to see if they had any vacancies.
The gentleman at the desk was very understanding when we told him what had happened to us. First he offered us a room with two queen beds not knowing our "social relation" to each other and not being one to assume (we are 17 years apart in age), hey I like that! When we balked he realized our social relation to one another and offered us a room with a king sized bed "not near children so it is extra quiet" he said. WOW! He UNDERSTANDS! This is so rare that someone understands I don't want to hear children and I want it nice and quiet. I was ready to stay no matter what after that but the handsome man asked to see the room so we could make sure the bed wasn't as horrible as the vacation rentals.
Upon entering the room we immediately noticed it was spacious and in no way claustrophobic. It had a love-seat, desk, entertainment cabinet with a decent sized television (I don't know perhaps a 28") as well as a microwave, coffee maker, and small refrigerator. Then we looked out the sliding glass door! WOW! What a view of Noyo harbor! I enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the morning listening to the seals and watching the fishing boats go out. We checked out the bed and it was fairly comfortable so we went back and reserved the room.
They had a continental breakfast, but being a bit of a food snob I thought the coffee was decent. However other than that breakfast wasn't so great, the waffles were dry and hard and hit bottom like a ton of bricks :-( I didn't have one of their "home made blueberry muffins" because they looked like they were made using a box of Jiffy brand muffin mix :-(
Oh sorry.. I forgot to mention we paid $98/ night for the room which I think was a STEAL.

Ok, I'm going to have to contradict myself a bit here. In my review for the V'Canto reataurant in Ft. Bragg I said the recession has hit this area hard. Let's just say that motels which call themselves a "lodge" can charge $90 + per night a still get a full boat on weekends. I suppose it beats $325 a night on the Mendocino coast for a bed that Shirley Temple might have blushed at and your own personal cliff outside your room, but since lodging on the Mendo coast is all about your budget, it's a moot point. If you can afford it, god bless and have fun.
The Harbor Lite is not a bad place to stay. It's right at the beginning of Ft Bragg (which has nothing going for it these days) and a 10 minute drive to Mendocino. All the rooms have cool redwood decks, which are nice if you are a smoker like me or someone who wants to check out the police action at the Circle K Gas Station next door or in their parking lot late at night (police action not included in the room price and not always available). I only paid $83/night for a non-harbor view room with my AAA discount, but I would spend a little extra for the view of the Noyo River and ocean if you really want to stay here. Yeah, the waffles, coffee and fruit in the AM are a nice touch. I'm saving up my pennies to stay in Mendocino next time, but for the price you could probably do worse than this place.

We had the most awesome stay at Harbor Lite. Our room was huge with a balcony overlooking the harbor. The woodburning fireplace was wonderful, the bed was extremely comfortable. I second Sarah's comment about bringing walking shoes. The HLL is not walking distance from downtown Fort Bragg, but there is a trail that I think goes down to the harbor. We didnt check it out because I only had boots and flipflops with me. Next time.
The breakfast is ok. All carbs with no protein or fruit offered. When we return (and we will!), I'll be more prepared and utilize the in-room fridge. Thank you to the staff at HLL for a very relaxing anniversary/Labor Day weekend!

Clean, good location, and homemade waffles in the morning all for just $88! We had a "king non-view" room, which included a little deck. The room itself was no-frills, but it was large, quiet, clean and comfortable. The office area is great, with couches, and lots of seating for the popular included breakfast. They had cold cereal, homemade granola, bread and other toastables, muffins, danishes, and - homemade waffles being pumped out as fast as they can be gobbled down. The only minus is they only served fake maple syrup, but I'm sure you could BYO real!

Great location, well kept, extreme value. Not much more need be said... oh wait, I do have a bit more. As mentioned, the breakfast is quite replete, and fantastic environment a la a B&B to meet will fellow travelers. Great property too... if you can make sure your room (I think most do) can overlook the inlet... watching the fishing boats on sunrise AND sunset is quite a fish-bowl-like experience.

I'm sitting right now on my balcony overlooking the harbor. For about $100 a night, I didn't think that I would be getting much of anything. The inn is clean and the room is spacious. The location is good. It is right between the harbor and downtown. If you like to walk everywhere like I do, make sure to bring good shoes because you are a little over a mile from downtown. I'll definitely stay here next time I'm in town.
