Love this place ! Great place to meet friends, have some awesome sushi, and not break the bank.

Faves are : 49ers, Crunchy Roll, Crispy Roll, Spicy Tuna, Beef Donburi, Gyoza Potstickers, Shrimp Tempura.

The miso soup and salad come with all dinners and are delish !

My only down side is sometimes they are SUPER slow. I have to say the last 2 times the service has been really good, so it's a hit and miss thing.

Give it a shot !

I love sushi and sashimi and always thought it impossible to get anything worth reviewing in the East Bay. I ended up at Happy Sashimi by accident and was more than pleased with my experience. Amazing what you will find when needing a quick pit stop while traveling down 80.

I ordered 16 piece sashimi lunch, my companion ordered a veggie bento box which came with teriyaki portobello mushrooms - really yummy. Seaweed salad was amazing. Tuna was amazing served with thinly sliced asian pears. Really nice touch with flavors and textures complimenting each other.

This place may be in a retail shopping mall, but the food is as good as the finest you will find in the city. Music is an eclectic mix of 80's pop with some Sinatra. A little something for everyone.

I'm thinking that some of the reviews here about service have some outside influence, lot's of anger going on that have nothing to do with the service. Staff was efficient, polite and flawless. Sushi chefs made eye contact, asked how the food was and thank us for coming in.

I think if people have an angry stick up their ass they should stay home until this stick can be removed without harming others.

Fresh! Yummy! Tasty! Friendly!  = Excellent Value!

I went to Happy Sashimi for dinner with my mom, we loved the rolls. Its was on a Saturday and I was surprised the service was really quick. We ordered a Bento dinner box with salmon which was really good. The rolls we ordered were dragon and lion king. The lion king roll was really.

I'd go back.

I have continued to come back to this restaurant in hopes that things will get better- the food, the service, etc. I was so excited when this restaurant came to Pinole but it continues to disappoint. The food is less than mediocre and the service is worse. The staff is untrained and young and for some unknown reason has lots of attitude. The wait for the food is too long and the prices too high. For four kids and three adults the bill was $140. !!! I felt so ripped off. I will spend that amount for attentive service from a knowledgeable staff  that serves high quality fresh food. Not here.

I was just here for lunch today (quick at that) and I sat at the bar so there was no wait, the staff was friendly and I got my food fairly quick and my check quick as well.
All in all it was good food, and good service... I don't see why there are all the bad rep on service. The hostess is cute as well...

I have only been out to eat sushi a handful of times, so I was excited when our cousins invited us. We ordered the following rolls, which came with soup.

Warriors - Tuna, Hamachi, Salmon deep fried

-I am not a sushi aficionado, so I asked the waitress what she liked. She mentioned that the Warriors roll with cream cheese  was one of her favorites. This roll was excellent. It had tons of flavor, a spicy kick, and melted in my mouth. We ordered two of these rolls- one with cream cheese and one without. Both were excellent.

Dragon - Shrimp Tempura, crab, cucumber, topped with unagi, avocado, and sauce .

-This roll was great as well. It was crunchy, sweet, and spicy. You get the crunchiness of the shrimp tempura, and then the rest melts in your mouth.

Crunchy - Crab, avocado, cucumber, Shrimp Tempura rolled with tempura bits

-This was one of my favorite rolls. The textures and flavors were excellent. When I return, the Crunchy roll will be on my list!

I had a wonderful experience, but would like to echo the sentiments of other Yelp*ers regarding the service. The service could definitely use some improvement. Our food took forever, and we were never asked if we needed refills, yet our waitress did do an excellent job of clearing dishes from our table promptly. Overall, I had a wonderful time. I left Happy Sashimi with a happy belly!

The first thing you see when you walk in is the "jewelry case" of perfect pasteries....and let me tell you they taste as good as they look!  I was a little hesitant at first because they look deciving - you know you order something because it looks like so pretty and then taste wax, subpar chocolate and unedible sugar concoction...not here!  Take a moment to enjoy how pretty the sculptured piece is and then take a bite...most of the pastries are cake and mousse (a little bigger than) petit fours.  It's the perfect consistency - the cake is really moist and the mousse smooth.  I've tried the Chocolate Hennessey and a Chocolate Raspberry and both were divine.

The same pastry chef also provides the same goods at the Vallejo and Pinole Red Onions - options!

I enjoy this place for several reasons. The rolls are great (especially "Crunchy"). It is a clean place with plenty of space. The customer service is good. Most of all I like this place because it's family friendly and good place for big groups.
A couple of things I don't like... it can end up being about $50 for 2 people to eat! The parking is difficult and the waiters/waitresses have recommended rolls that weren't so great. So don't try the V-roll... it's deep fried.

I've come here on way too many occasion for several reasons..

1. It's one of VERY few sushi places near home..
2. I'm secretly in love with their Romeo & Juliet Roll
3.. .... .mmm yea that's probably it..

Their decor is nice but their servers are straight from PVHS which most don't make for good servers at all since they don't seem to take their job seriously.. everytime I've been here, I've actually had pretty good service but not great.. the prices are reasonable & their sushi is worth coming out for..

If they hired servers that weren't such young cats, I'm sure they would bring in so much more business.. shame since they're sushi has always been on point..

I am not sure why this place has such bad reviews?  I came here for lunch and they had a great selection of options for bento boxes.  I went with the super veggie roll and the seaweed salad.  And everything was awesome -- their side salad had yummy miso dressing, and the miso soup was excellent.  My only gripe -- they should have brown rice as an option.  And $11 is a little steep for lunch, although I suppose it's reasonable given that the food is good quality.

I came here for lunch on a Sunday with the family. Group of 7. 5 adults, 2 kids ages 4 and 2. We all ordered, and subsequently, our food came in 10 minute intervals, or more! We all finished our meals before my Mom even got her food. We cancelled her order.

This was pretty annoying. I work at a restaurant myself, and we try quite hard to make sure parties get their food all at the same time.....

One night this utmost desire for sushi and sashami struck me. Feeling excited about this urge my gf and me ironically dipped into HAPPY Sashami. Little did I know that the quality of the food would be nothing to smile about, like the face of a dead fish X_x.

As I was looking over the menu I didn't want to pay nearly $20 for a, from what I heard, mediocre Bento Box so I chose the Chirashi which is a Sashami assortment w/ miso and rice. When I got it it looked fusion, a bowl with rice topped with not so tasty fish with greens, ginger, wasabi all spread over. Nooo. Sometimes simplicity is the best option, but this wasn't the case here.

I give it  +1 for the interior and contemporary look giving it an inviting loungy feel with an enticing bar. As far as overall-ality though, the food wasn't that great for the price. Poor value perhaps because there are far more tastier places? However, they do have great deserts from cheesecake to green tea ice cream. But I feel this place is more attracting to visit rather than to eat at lol. Sad Sashami.

If you want to experience a wider spectrum of sushi, don't have one person do all the ordering.  I chose for our table of 5, and ended up with rolls featuring tuna, avocado, and eel (A's, Dragon, Godzilla, Caterpillar, Dy-No-Mite, Raiders, Rock & Roll) since that's my favorite.  We were all happy, but there were no delightful surprises... well, the fried sliced roll was unusual.  Only big disappointment was the scallop bake - where were the scallops in that mush?
They included miso and salad for everyone though HG Jr.'s eel bowl (huge) was the only entree.  I didn't like the salad because of the bitter Euro mix lettuce.
Service was terrific - our waitress kept checking with me, and put in the order a few at a time as I slowly made my way down the list.  They don't use paper check-lists.  I didn't feel rushed, but maybe they have taken their slow service critiques to heart or were anticipating a later dinner crowd.
We always leave too full for the beautiful desserts.  I like the modern decor which, though minimalist, gives a warmer feeling than old-school Tokyo by Hilltop Mall.  Tokyo's rolls win in the spectacular presentation category though.
My parents had eaten a bento box and udon (in their 70's and still not splitting an entree and a salad!) here a fews nights prior, but didn't mind coming again even though they live near Fitzgerald Dr., the fast-food mecca of the east bay.  I should have asked them for a Happy S./Tokyo direct comparison!

The last three times my wife and daughter and I have been to Happy Sashimi, it's been great. The service has improved drastically and has been consistent. We see the same servers every time. They are always running with two or three sushi chiefs. Happy Sashimi has become my favorite sushi restaurant in the area.  If you love fresh fish, sit at the bar and enjoy.

Food is okay but service FLAT out sucks. You wait, and wait, and wait, and then you wait more. Not sure if the cooks are just slow and the waiters don't know what's going on because they all look like freshmans from pinole high?

Food is great and a little over priced. I've had better for cheaper. 2 star for bad service. ESP when with kids try to have patience!

And the most improved restaurant for 2009 so far goes to...*drum rolls*

HAPPY SASHIMI!

Not yet classifed in the 4-5 star Yelp category but I ended up eating dinner here last night cause my 9 year old brother wanted sushi last night. I was kind of reluctant because of my previous experience, but this is what the bday boy wanted.

I was surprised that when we went in, we were seated right away and the service was done in a timely manner. Our food even came out in a timely manner as well and the food was actually good and well portioned. We ordered 2 sushi rolls: crunchy and nemo, hamachi kama, and a bento box: california roll, with beef teriyaki (med-rare), it came with tempura and a croquette.

Asking for the bill did take awhile, but yes, this place did improve alot and there is always room for improvement.

I've probably eaten here about 20 times since many of my friends and family have celebrated birthdays or anniversaries here and not to forget, that they are the only local sushi restaurant that offers my favorite - the Island Roll. But as an avid sushi eater, I have to report that Happy Sashimi just doesn't deliver. I have given this small, family-owned restaurant countless chances to redeem itself, but  the tiny rolls and slow service appalls me.

Primarily the reason why I gave Happy Sashimi a 1 star rating is their fatigued and flat service. Upon walking into the restaurant, you probably won't get acknowledged by the teenage staff until after 5-15 minutes of standing there. After being seated, you wait again 10-15 minutes until your waiter can take your order. Now  here's the thing....

On a lazy Sunday, my parents and I came in here for lunch. There were only two other tables in the restaurant that were vacant and they had two or three waiters on duty and two chefs.  I ordered an Island Roll, Chirashi bowl and Spicy Tuna salad. We ordered ALL RAW FOOD yet it STILL took them EXACTLY 1 HOUR AND 10 MINUTES to serve it. I don't understand!

Another time, my family and I ordered a Bento Box - Salmon teriyaki and chicken teriyaki with tempura. Again, we waited over an hour ! The waiters never apologized and say "Well its because YOU ordered teriyaki and it takes time to cook." Wow! Are you serious? Not to mention, the waiter had no empathy and simply walked away and you can see him horsing around with another waiter slapping each other with towels, and then exchanging flirtatious comments and gestures to another waitress. It seems to me that since this staff mostly consists of teenagers, they lack their sense of professionalism or appropriate demeanor, and even their communication skills. It's completely pathetic..

The decor is very simple yet contemporary which is something that I can actually appreciate here at Happy Sashimi. I can say that I am appreciative of the HDTVs that they have if you wanna catch up on a Warriors game or watch Giada on Food Network. I love their dinnerware, very modern and traditional at the same time, but they need to find a thicker type of tea cup because when they actually serve hot tea, the cup is too thin that the heat from the tea can scorch your hands.

Another thing!! $11 for an Island Roll. Are you kidding me? More like Baby Island Roll to me. I swear each piece was almost as small as a quarter and every bite I took left me wanting more. Why? Because there was nothing there to taste!  When I received it, the salmon on top looked so dry, I swear it was cracking like dry lips!

Last straw: My parents and I ordered the usual, Salmon Teriyaki and Chicken Teriyaki Bento Boxes, and a Spider Roll. AGAIN.. it took them an hour and thirty minutes to bring us these three orders. When we received the order, what did we see in our boxes? Not a Salmon Teriyaki, but a Mackerel Teriyaki!! WHAT THE... So I waived for the waiter to come over because I swear they were just ignoring us, and after 5 minutes, he finally comes to us and we tell him we ordered Salmon Teriyaki. I didn't even know there was a such thing as Mackerel Teriyaki. And this guy has the nerve to say, "Are you sure thats what you ordered? I don't think you ordered the Salmon." So I shot back with, "I think I would know exactly what I ordered!! And I didn't even know Mackerel Teriyaki existed!" So he goes back in the kitchen, come back out and tells us, "We don't have anymore Salmon" and .. what? So that's justifiable enough for you to serve us nasty mackerel?? He just walks away, and then serves us the spider roll. And boy, was it soggy! Like fresh from the ocean type of soggy!  So we just paid for the food, no tip and left.

I would never bring anyone here, for Mother's Day, Birthday, I don't care what it is. This restaurant is just not deserving enough for another chance. It's so much more worth it to drive out to Oakland or Alameda area have fresh and clean quality sushi and more professional and respectable customer service. I would pay double the amount that Happy charges elsewhere than to return here.

DO NOT GO TO HAPPY SASHIMI!! I just cannot stress that enough....

Too bad for them I didn't review this place when it first opened because I WAS impressed with them.  The decor is so nice and they're always playing some old school slow jam but their service SUCKS so bad.  I had a friend work here and she hooked it up but NOW, hell no.

Random Thursday night, me & my bf walk in and sit on the little square things but got hella ignored for the 10 minutes before we bounced.  I could not believe it.  Do they go under NO training whatsoever?!  Anyone who can carry around a tray with food on it is hired apparently b/c this seems to be the case for a lot of my friends and yelpers on here.  I hella hate to knock this place b/c I'm sure the servers are my neighbors or friends of friends but come on nooow.

Pinole was SO close to having a decent sushi place.

The service sucks!

It was obvious the waiter, Austin, was a rookie.  He walked with a swag, sporting an earring and sagging pants. It took him a 5 minutes to get more hot tea and to turn on the television.  He had to reminded by the chef a few times.  And he talked back to the chef, saying he only had 2 arms.

The food is satisfactory.  And the chef was experienced and knew how to provide for the customers.

My suggestion fire all the waiters, hire waitresses that have experience.

They've only been in business for about 1.5 years so maybe they still need to cultivate their staff.

Rubbish... came in and spent about $65-$70 for 2 adults and a child. Nothing can make up for the food or the dumbfounded service. I saw multiple parties rolling eyes and trying to get a waiters attention. I mean, dude dont have anyone waiting around for a check or refills on water.

The only thing I was interested in was the flooring which looked prety interesting.

I have been wanting to Yelp these guys for some time now. Just getting around to it.
Happy S could definitely do better than this. Who is the manager or owner? I would love to talk with them. Turning this place around is as easy as having a standard of service that you strive for.  The service is horrible. The food is actually pretty good and the atmosphere is nice however, when you wait an hour for the check or your sake takes 30 min. to arrive... or the wait staff acts like kids that have never worked a day in their life... then we have a problem.  What is it going to take to make them understand that, given the new construction and additions around them, they could totally turn around and make that place a standing room only sushi restaurant?
My friends and I refuse to go there again. Not until they get their shit together.

So, I read the reviews and was very pessimistic...
Actually the service was great! Brandy helped us and was cheerful, quick and accomodating! The food was also good. Small complaint: I asked for no shrimp in the tempura and usually they substitute a few more veges and in this case they didn't   :(
If I had known, I would have gotten the shrimp and given it to my dining companion.
I am giving them 4 stars because I have had better Japanese food but they are worth checking out!

I come here pretty often to eat with my friends. I always order the Dragon and Crunchy/Crispy roll(the one that's deep-fried outside with the housesauce, I always forget which one it is).

Each and everytime I'm there, the service is terrible. Even if there's only about 2-3 tables with, the waiters just lounge around and customers, including myself, would have to wait for over 10 min. until we got our order taken. Then it'd take about another 30 min.-1 hr. just to get a small plate of sushi out.

By the way: to go sushi is always prepared worse than dine in sushi.

We usually go here a quick Dinner, the problem is we have to wait always for about 20 minutes before we get seated. Good thing they've replaced or put in a long vacation the
Sushi Chef that is so talkative and one time we had dinner there I have Guest with me
The Chef forgot some of our orders and they trying to cover it up as if he is busy but in fact he's not,  there were about 3 - 4 of them in there making Sushi. Well because that sushi chef was so talkative that's what it is, but in fairness he made us a good sushi & also one good thing I like about him is he's always happy. The Owner didn't bill us for that order.
The Servers are nice though and attentive, but sometimes you have to remind them too of your orders. But no Doubt this place is always packed, & indeed their sushi is fresh.
I will definitely come back for some takeout Sushi.

UN-Happy Sashimi is more like it.

This review is based on my one and only experience here many months ago, and I only ended up here because Shinsen was closed on a Monday and the craving for sushi was strong...so strong...

The ambiance was not comforting, the wait was for-ev-er (please note that there was only two other couples there), the rolls were messy (that wasn't tempura shrimp in my roll... skrimp is more like it)...

there was just no honor in this sushi...no honor at all...

We arrived for dinner.  The hostess found a table and sat us after waiting a minute or two.  The waitress came to our table a minute later and asked for drinks.  Got our drinks quickly.

Then we ordered.  Both of us ordered the dinner bento boxes.  We waited about five minutes for the soup and salad.  Reasonable IMO in the restaurant less than half full.  We came at a good time because the restaurant started to fill up with people.

The dinner . . . big portions.  Best value ever of all the Japanese restaurants I ate.  I've been to other restaurants charging less and getting less food or charging the same prices and getting less food.  You get your money's worth here $-)  We took our time eating the dinner and it took a long time.  Then again, we talked a lot too.

Service was great.  Got our drinks minutes after my party sat down.  The food arrived hot.  Highly recommended!

Me and my boyfriend went in for lunch today and that food was ok. I ordered the bento box with salmon teriyaki and tuna sashimi. The salmon was s decent size and tasted pretty good. The sashimi was really really cold as if they had it frozen then thawed. The bento box came with soup, salad, koro-ke (deep fried potatoe cake), and a creamy puff for dessert. A bento box for lunch costs $10.95 (dinner is $16.95 and comes with Tempura). The lunch price is pretty good but I wouldnt pay the $16.95 dinner for that quality. I also ordered the tempura hand roll. It had 2 pieces of tempura and a large slice of avocado...pretty good.

The service was ok. Our waiteress was just their to take our order but thats it (she wasnt all that friendly). She forgot about my green tea and I had to remind her. The place is cute and the location is good (I assume thats how they get so much foot traffic).

I've definitely experienced better.

I'd have to say that this restaurant has bad service. you can stand at the door way and not be seated for 10 to 15 minutes. one time I actually left once i got seated because I wasn't giving any water or ask what to I'd like to drink.  On the hand the food is really good. If you are willing to wait before you starve to death.

if there service was better my rating would be better as well.

I am officially boycotting this place.  I think after waiting for two whole hours with no food arriving was the last straw that needed to be pulled.  They staff plenty of unexperienced teens/young adults and don't have any kind of management on hand when it is needed.  It was ridiculous that my dad ordered a bottle of cold sake and it took 30 mins to arrive.  Our waiteress' excuse... "I'm sorry I'm not old enough to serve alcohol, so I have to ask one of the sushi chefs to step away when they have a moment."  Umm ok... I can understand the whole being underage and can't serve alcoholic beverages, but seriously... out of the other 8 people working... only the sushi chefs are of age? Needless to say, I'm not coming here anymore... If I could award a negative number of stars.  Happy Sashimi would be my very first recipient.

Anyway, at the end our two hour wait.  We walked out after our bashful waitress, who was too embarrassed to apologize for her countless mistakes, was no where to be found.  Turns out they lost our order TWICE.

Enough said.

It's not the greatest but it's not bad either.

They give you complimenatry soup and salad. The salad was DRENCHED in dressing, but whatev, that didnt bother me much.
My friend and I ordered the  Scallop Bake, a spicy tuna hand roll,  spicy poki maki and a Lion King. All were good. No complaints about the food...

Now as for the service...  It took us 15-20 minutes just to get seated and the place wasn't even packed (I know those fuckers saw us waiting, shit I MADE EYE CONTACT WITH AT LEAST 2 HOSTS/ WAITERS!). A girl that worked there looked like she had an attitude problem that needed to be adjusted REAL QUICK, and our waiter was EH, you can tell he was just there to do his job and THATS IT. It did take a while for the food to arrive, but since I was with good company and we were having good conversation, that didnt bother me much. The only person there that seemed real genuine  was the Asian (I dunno if he was Korean or Japanese) dude makin the sushi

To sum it up.. good food but not so great service. .. If i go again and i'm waiting longer than I expect, i'ma MAKE IT KNOWN! =)

You will LOVE this place if you love a good sushi parade!  Sushi parade?

If you love having your sushi come out and make its' appearance and
then wait another five minutes for the next piece of sushi to come out, then by all means this is the place for you.  Keep in mind though, the parade lasts about 2.5  hours because that is how long it took for 10 pieces of nigiri to come out.  2.5 HOURS, 10 PIECES, 2 PIECES OF SUSHI ON A PLATE!

This place is a joke!  I couldn't believe how long we had to wait for our
food....  And not only did we have to wait long, they didn't even get our order right!!!!!  The waitress told us, "Sorry for the wait, but we're just really backed up right now.  It's Friday night!"  This is NOT the FIRST crowded restaurant I have been to on a Friday night!  And it wasn't EVEN that crowded!  Where was the crowd?  And to wait 2.5 hours for 10 pieces of sushi to come out was ultimately ridiculous!

After waiting so long, we finally decided it was time to speak to the manager-
Me: We've been waiting almost an hour for our sushi to arrive and that table that arrived after us received their sushi before us
Manager: I'm sorry but we make all of our sushi fresh and none of it is pre-made.
Me: Uh....ok? (In my head:  Dude this is a sushi restaurant, isn't all the sushi supposed to be made to order?  Do you want a four star yelp review for making your sushi the way you are supposed to make it!?)

Are you serious?

Met some family here for lunch - a party of 8. My son loved the tempura and teriyaki chicken, but I guess that's a hard dish to mess up. Tuna sahimi was pretty good.

Arriving here at 1130am definitely helped, as we were the first party to arrive. The service was decent, but I can see how the teenagers can become overwhelmed on a busy lunch or dinner service. In my obervations, a REALLY good server can handle about 3 tables effectively. The service diminished because each of the 2 servers had 5 tables each as we ended our meal. I guess we were the lucky ones.

I remember this part of Pinole being run-down and just plain gross. I would imagine that with all the new businesses around here,  this isn't the only place getting their feet wet. At almost 1pm on a Saturday, I had a hell of a time just backing out the car and trying to get the hell out of there. Hopefully they come around and get better as time goes by.  I'll give it another chance and see what happens.

4 stars for the food, 2 stars for the service, 1 star for the sushi chefs

Big message for the management: Tell your sushi chefs to sober up.

The servers are all friendly no matter what is going on or how busy it is, which is a big compliment because servers are getting the brunt of the customers complaints that should be directed at the chefs.

I've been there a few times, at the table and at the sushi bar, and the hit or miss happens even at the bar.  Only this time I was the miserable one waiting over 30 minutes for my food (which came wrong by the way when it finally came), sitting next to the laughing, happy guys who were sauced on the Saki that they were drinking with the sushi bar chefs.  Toast after toast after toast the chefs and these guys would clink glasses, shoot 'em down, and then laugh like someone had just told the funniest joke in the world.
hey wait a minute................
maybe that's why the food takes so long and it is often wrong when it arrives!
Drunk sushi chefs make for happy sushi chefs, but it also makes for unhappy customers.

Sober up behind the bar guys/gals

Man i feel bad for all you guys who got bad service here .. either i usually run into the nicer waiters during the better times of the day or this place really does suck and i'm too blind .. i know some of you are thinking the latter! .. hehe .. but really though, i haven't had a completely bad experience here, at least not enough to give it less than 3 stars ...

i always get good service, not the BEST, but not the worst either. The last time i went here, though, which was last Saturday wit my momz, i gotta admit, it was a little worse than normal. He was a young cat (actually, they all are...), and he was REALLY nice .. but man he needs training. I'm sorry man, but i clearly told you i was allergic to avocado and it was in that roll ... it didnt take very long to get it back to me and they made me a brand new fresh one with extra sauce just the way i like it, BUT i wanted that the FIRST time. I'm forgiving, so i let it go. But then the next server wasn't the one who sat us or took our order, it was a girl. I'm curious .. do you all share tables? You don't even know what i ordered, and you're telling me it'll be right out. Cute. I've never been in a place that tries so hard to give good service and then fails at it because it's actually fake. I was confused .. other than that, KOO.

The sushi was good, like it usually is for me .. the chef made it how i like it (except for that one time..) .. the tempura bits cud have been more crispy, i felt like that time they were lighter and softer than usual. .. i always order the Crunchy and the Crispy, usually the Romeo&Juliet (which btw, their scallops are REALLY fresh) .. the Crunchy came out extra warm and still hot, which i appreciated .. it wasn't drenched in sauce, so it had just enough kick to it .. and the deep fried part stayed deep fried and didn't get soggy for akoo minute .. the miso was pretty good in my opinion, not salty.

i have to be honest, i think i get good service here cuz i'm cute. please don't misunderstand, i'm really not that cocky. BUT .. of all the people in the restaurant, for some ODD reason, i got the most attention. The other guests were 2 young h.s. girls who looked like they jus rolled outta bed .. another set of ppl were a grandma and her grandson (about 15 yrs old?), there were 2 couples who, i gotta admit, weren't the cutest couples in the world, and i walked in with my mom. we immediately got sat down, WITH menus (some yelpers said they didn't get menus for at least 10 min, what restaurant does that?!) we got water without having to ask, WITH LEMON! (crazy ..), and they were extremely nice (despite their skill level). My mom got her hot tea while it was still steaming, and they even gave her hot water in a teapot, which they normally don't do. Hence, she never had to ask for a refill, which i hear from some yelpers takes forever to receive! .. My lemonade was constantly being refilled, without having to ask, and for free (i don't think refills are free unless they're for water?) .. we didn't wait more than 10 or 15 mins for the food to come .. and he constantly checked up on us (well, the other girl did too ... ) to see if we needed anything or wanted anything else ... other times i've went here i've gotten service just as great -- only the few gripes i mentioned above were the issues i've had with service, so i DO feel bad for those of you who got the sh!t end of it .. because the 2 high school girls next to us barely got paid attention to, they sat down BEFORE us and got their food AFTER us. the 2 couples: the boyfriend of one couple had to keep asking the waiter for water. i think he asked like, 3 times cuz he kept forgetting to bring the pitcher?! .. the girl in the other couple complained her rice was cold and they served her the wrong roll ... the grandma asked for tea (which my mother also had), but received no teapot and no refill!! her grandson got mad at the waiter and requested for another waiter (which ended up being the waitress) to help them. we got service with a smile every minute we were in the restaurant (except for that avocado thing) and when they serviced everyone else, it wasn't service at all. I'd be flattered, if i didn't find it rude and ridiculous ... if you were an outsider looking in, what would you think...???

when we got serviced by another young guy on another meal trip here, he looked TOO young and u cud tell he doesn't take the job seriously. he thinks it's laid back enough to do whatever he wants, he had hella friends visiting him, bringing him jamba juice and he musta taken at least 3 breaks in the span of time that i was there to eat .. another guy, at least 21+, probably had the most experience out of em all. anytime he's served me, i have no complaints. everything is always done how i like it and i'm always catered to.

i'd come here again only because i get treated well =)

Omg, but PLEASE change your soundtrack!!! you yelpers know what i'm talkin bout!

I agree with everyone!  I've been to Happy Sashimi about 7 or 8 times for lunch since it opened.  I noticed in my most recent dining here that the menu changed, and I think Gil from previous Shinsen was behind the sushi bar.  I LOVE his sushi rolls.

Unfortunately, I would have to give the rest of the establishment  an extremely low rating.  The warm food (bento boxes)... I just have to say salty and a bit yucky.

The service, as everyone else says.. is really unfortunate.  My friend and I waited forever for someone to finally clean up a table and finally seat us.  We were not given any place settings and we were largely ignored, so we ended up stealing plates from another dirty table.  Even then, I just felt overall uncomfortable.

I'm thinking from now on I'm just going to order rolls for take out from here. :(

I went to a small high school.  470 students.....TOTAL.
I was on the student body council as the Secretary.
I was also a sorta-kinda-nerd but I tried to not be an uber-dork.

By senior year I was a semi-popular-but-not-really-because-honestly-
I-was-hella-sheltered-and-not-allowed-to-go-to-any -parties-though-
it-didn't-matter-because-I-wasn't-invited-because- I-started-dorky-and-

and-senior-year.

Anywho...while at Happy Sashimi I was hella happy to see TWO people I went to school with when I was younger.  They are both fat and old looking!  Yay!  Karma's a bitch isn't it popular kids!?!?!?!?

Oh yeah...the sushi.  Totally whatever tasting and slow ass service but it was open on Monday night so it gets two stars.
