I've been going to Maria for about a year now. I'm an East Bay girl, but will make the trek to 570 Monterey Boulevard just for her services. Her studio is bright and clean and fun, just like her personality!
The only problem I have is that she makes me laugh so hard that I truly have to restrain myself from moving, or I'll be walking out of there with crooked lashes that look like an old British man's teeth. -

First, let me tell you that you really should research where you go to - especially if you do drastic things like haircuts, waxes, or eyelash extensions. It's not like painting your nails that grow back in a few weeks!!!
Being the impulsive person that I am, I was walking and saw this sign at a nail salon that said eyelash extensions - THAT IS WHERE I WENT WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! People, please go to places that specialize in services that they cater to.
First of all, the lady had me go to the upstairs loft and lay on what looked like a make-shift bed with padding that was not comfortable at all. I could hear the chatter downstairs and smell of nail polish - so not relaxing when you're trying to keep your eyes shut for an hour.
Then she must have put the under lid paper to separate my eyes too close inside my eye because it look like I popped a vessel after I came out. My eye was sore for the next few days and red from being irritated or possibly lacerated with a papercut!
Within a week, clumps started to fall out and pulled my natural lashes along with it!
THIS WAS NOT HAPPY LASHES - this was some neighborhood nail shop.
So when trying to fix up my lashes that made me look bald in certain spots, researched and found Maria of HAPPY LASHES - and my lashes are truly HAPPY now!
Maria is very professional, a nurse by trade originally - she uses proper hygiene, professionalism, and comfort to make it such a good experience where you can literally fall asleep while she does it!
She tried her best to fix my lashes and said let the little ones grow back to fill in later. She leaves you with a wealth of information to care for your lashes and gives you so much tips.
I will definitely be back to have her do my fills and thank you, thank you, thank you Maria for making my nightmare experience better and fixing my lashes!
Lesson learned - be patient and make appointments - don't just walk in anywhere - research!!!!! -

I went to Maria for my first lash extension experience. I was able to book an appointment easily by using Schedulicity and showed up not really knowing what to expect. She guided me through the process, discussing what the different options were (natural, full, glamour, diva), and what she would recommend given my current lash length/thickness. Within about an hour and a half she had applied enough lashes to achieve the look I was going for (it ended up being a full set). Where I noticed some areas that appeared a bit sparse, she was more than willing to fill them in. If you haven't done these before, but sure NOT to open your eyes until the adhesive is COMPLETELY DRY. I made this mistake and was greeted with a burning sensation and watery eyes (very bad bad bad for newly applied lashes).
As someone who has learned (only since getting lash extensions) that I rub/poke at my eyes often, I'm not sure I"ll be a regular lash extension wearer, but certainly for special occasions or vacations, I can see these being totally worthwhile to avoid having to apply multiple sets of falsies. Maria is lovely and personable, and if you don't mind driving a little of the beaten track, it's totally worthwhile. -

Maria is wonderful. I have gotten eyelash extensions a few times, and she has been the best by far. I am always weary before heading in-not knowing whether or not the person will know what he/she is doing. But Maria was professional and thorough. She took her time and made sure I was happy with the end product. I have been loving the lashes! They are natural but with some added length. WIll be using Maria regularly :)

Maria is phenomenal. I come in with sad, short Asian lashes, and after every appointment, I emerge with not just Happy Lashes, but ecstatic lashes. She is an artist and takes great care in her work. I initially went to her with a horribly applied set of extensions for fixing, and the result exceeded my expectations. She's fast, skilled, and takes great care in giving me a look that doesn't look gaudy or fake. People continue to complement me in my 'natural' long lashes. I am incredibly addicted.
This is my first step in admitting my extension addiction over the last year. I'd like to keep Maria as my own lash secret, but I gotta give credit where credit's due - thanks, Maria! -

I've been going to Maria for a few months now after a very negative experience with another lash lady (that I'm not naming.) Maria is much more meticulous about not causing discomfort, creating a relaxing atmosphere and cultivating her clientele.
First of all to save yourself some time, please go to http://Schedulicity.com to make an appointment, that's the only way she schedules. There you make an appointment from the times available (she's usually about two weeks out, but you sometimes can get an earlier appointment, especially if you are willing to go on weekdays.) I know the urge to call and make an appointment is huge, but in this case, she will just refer you to the website.
I get a mix of mink and synthetic and my lashes usually last about 2-3 weeks -- I like the thicker look, the "diva" or "glamor", so it's more maintenance than the "natural" which will probably last more than a month.
Like any service provider, she has her quirks -- if she's got someone else waiting she has an inclination to rush, and you do not want that to happen. Just mention that you're there and want her to make your eyes beautiful so she takes a little more time. Also if you're not 100 percent happy about your look or feel there's an extra lash needed, tell her and she will add or fix. Please don't think this happens often, but she's usually looking at you from a different angle when she's placing them and may not have noticed what you have.
In the end, she does good work and you will receive compliments and feel pretty. -

Let me start by saying that I'm not a high-maintenance woman. I rarely wear makeup, hell I rarely brush my hair. There, I said it. I do, however, like to look pretty and decided to try eyelash extensions as a way to easily boost my looks on a daily basis. I found Maria and Happy Lashes on Yelp and set up an appointment.
Maria did my eyelashes a few days ago and I LOVE THEM. She is very mellow and professional and I like the fact that she was an RN before her current gig as Lash Lady Extraordinaire. I was worried my lashes would look stripperesque and gaudy but Maria assured me they'd be very natural. She even did my eyebrows afterwards, to enhance the overall look, which is pretty and natural. I look like I'm wearing really well-applied mascara -- without any effort at all on my part! Perfect for low-maintenance, lazy me.
I've since shown a few friends whose opinions I really trust and they were blown away by how natural these eyelashes look. I've already set up my next appointment for fillers. Now if only there was a way to fake the rockin' body look.... -

My guilty pleasure before Happy Lashes was getting mani's and pedi's every week and maybe an occasional facial. My new found addiction, however, are LASHES! I think i'll have to start my own lash account, since i have started eyelash extensions.
Maria is an extremely friendly person! She is professional, very easy to talk to and sweet. The first time i came in i was really nervous. She assured me that everything would be fine, went through the process of what she was doing to a T, and even suggested that she add a few more lashes to her initial application. I chose the synthetic and mink combo and i'm glad i did! I really enjoyed the outcome..Unfortunately, the glue she used on me at the time was from a bad batch. Within a week and a half, 15 lashes (yes I counted them) fell off. I was a little sad because i thought i had made a good investment to last me at least 3 weeks. I called Maria after the third day of my lashes falling out, explained my tragedy and she offered to do my touch up for free.
When I came in for my appointment, instead of giving me the same synthetic/mink combo I requested, she did all synthetic. I felt that it did not come out as nice as it did the first time. I also noticed that she was in a little bit of a hurry, as it took her only 30 mins to do the re-lash. When I got home I made sure to be really careful not to touch my lashes, but a few fell out the following day anyway . So far I have had 4 fallout from left eye and my inner corner eye lid is bare. LOL I give up! I really wanted to stick with Maria. She told me that she was opening another shop closer by where I live and I anticipated on becoming a returning customer. But because my lashes are falling out as quickly as they are, pointing sideways, crossing each other and dangling from the tips, I might flutter my lashes elsewhere. -

Maria is very friendly and her service is very convenient. I love the online booking and text/email reminders. You also can pay with credit card on her ipad. Very cool.
Her "office" in SF is near Pier 29. It's very simple, but it's clean and pleasant. It's basically inside a building full of lawyers and insurance agents.
I have had eyelash extensions in other places and Happy Lashes is the best in terms of quality of work and price. She is also sooo nice and she told me that even if a client stopped seeing her for 6 months and come back, she will not charge the initial full set and instead charge the re-lash price only. Now that's great customer service!
If you want to get eyelash extension, this is the place to get them. -

Maria does amazing work and is super sweet and fun to boot. I've had extreme lashes from another salon and perfectionist that I am, I was not pleased. Despite assurances from another salon where I get my brows done that my lashes looked totally normal I was still not pleased.
Enter Maria. I left so thrilled. I got two compliments from girlfriends today and was more than happy to recommend her to them. -

I'm getting married soon in Tahoe and the idea of trusting a local make-up artist who I haven't used before makes me nervous. I've decided to do my own make-up but wanted something a little more special.
I decided to try eyelash extensions and chose Happy Lashes based on the positive Yelp reviews. Maria does amazing work and I couldn't be happier. I can't tell you how many compliments I have received.
I recently had my second touch-up after four weeks but easily could have waited for two more.

I decided that it was time to try out lash extensions for an upcoming wedding I was going to after reading tons of reviews and dreaming of what life would be like sans mascara and an eyelash curler!
Enter: Maria Powell. She's been trained by Extreme Lashes - which is how I found her in the first place. Their program is known to be one of the most difficult ones out there for beauticians learning how to apply lash extensions. Their lashers are trained for precision, style and speed so that clients aren't laying there forever!
Maria is not only technically skilled but she has just the nicest demeanor. From the second you contact her - she's genuine, informative and accommodating to a fault!
My lash extensions started to thin out around the 2 to 3 week mark - but apparently this is about fairly standard practice -especially when you're a first time customer and still figuring out how to take care of them!
Maria happily answers questions before, during and after she does your extensions and best of all - she followed up with me a couple days later to see how i was doing.
My lashes look amazingly long and full - without looking like falsies! Maria does a great job of figuring out how to pair different lengths and widths of lashes to compliment your own and blend in naturally.
I recommend starting with the regular full set and then deciding if you want to "upgrade" to a glam or diva set a few weeks after you get used to them.
Definitely look up Maria if you're considering extensions, need someone to upkeep your extensions or to repair any other bad jobs - she'll definitely take care of you! -

Having recently relocated to the bay area and tried out several other lash extension boutiques before finding Happy Lashes, I can say hands down that Maria is the sweetest, most detail-oriented, and amazing lash artist in the whole city.
The other reviews don't lie- she makes you feel incredibly comfortable from the get-go, and puts in SO much effort in her application to ensure you the best possible touch-up each month.
As a LA-native who has tried out a fair share of lash extensions, Maria's work has completely blown me away the past four times I've seen her. She's like my monthly pick-me-up that is guaranteed to make me feel gorgeous and awesome for weeks to come! -

I have wanted eyelash extensions for some time now, I finally found a place I felt good about- Happy lashes.
Maria is so nice and pleasant.
She took her time, you can tell she is a perfectionist.
My lashes look so nice, very natural, just as I expected. I hope I can manage caring for them so I can continue going back for fills ;)

Maria..*sigh* at last I can last almost 5 weeks with beautiful lashes. I get countless compliments, and can't help but flutter my beauties and blush. Of course, I say "I'm just lucky" to be blessed with such lovely lashes, as I would prefer to keep my secret under wraps. Although, Maria definitely deserves the praise, and I couldn't help but pass along her card to some co-workers after their countless ooggling of my lashes. Thank you Maria! Maria is an eyelash goddess. After searching around on Yelp for some eyelash extension spots, I found Happy Lashes. With only 2 reviews, I was a bit skeptical. Happy Lashes has 2 location. 1 in the Alameda and the other in San Francisco. What sold me was the website. The website is informative, straight to the point and packed full of pictures of client's lashes. I made an appointment via text (I really like this method) and was able to secure a spot in the SF office. Super easy to get to and super easy parking. Happy Lashes is inside a nice office building near the Embarcadero. Maria greeted me at the door and we chatted for a bit while I filled out the information forms. I told her what I wanted and why I wasn't happy with my lashes. She assured me I'd get the results that I wanted. I wanted full and crazy luscious lashes. Easy right? 1.5 hours later I arose with my awesome set of full lashes. They were so beautiful. I was extremely happy with them. She mixed the synthetic and mink lashes together so that my set looked natural yet full. They felt so real...not hard at all. The extensions were such a great deal (definitely reasonable in price). Other places charge so much for mediocre service.
It's been almost a week and almost none of the lashes have come off. She did such a great job that they are secure and still full. I can not wait to come back for my fill. I can't imagine myself without eyelash extensions anymore. They definitely help bring out my best feature. -
