3 reviews for Happy End
First off, this place isn't Russian - it's Polish. However, there's no Polish category, so I just went with something close.
Second - the 13 year old boy in me laughs hysterically every time I walk by this place. It's right down the street from the barbershop I visit in Greenpoint, so it's always nice to finish off my haircut with the inexpensive Happy End (GET IT!?).
The pierogi here are bad-ass; the blueberry are my favorite. The staff ain't always so hot on the English, so you may have to point to get what you want. Everything is on the relatively cheap side, so you and a friend can chow on some Polish awesomeness for less than 20 bucks together.
Minus two stars cause the joint is a little dirty and the staff ain't always so friendly if you aren't speaking Polish.
So, I hate to drag this down because I have a soft spot in my heart for all of the Polish restaurants in Greenpoint, but I tried this one once and had a bad experience with some cold food that scared me away for good.
This could have been a one time thing....but since then when I want good cheap Polish food I try to to go the Polish Slavic Center cafeteria (closes early and on Sundays, through.
The Polish dirty spoon is great. Nice, thick potato pancakes with a little bit too little apple sauce. Good blintzes, good dumplings, great borscht soups. It's great for cold weather. You can sit at the counter and eat by yourself without being bothered. I saw below someone felt the "service" was a bit lacking but from the little bit of Polish I can understand, it's not that their not friendly to people who don't speak Polish, I think the culture just has a different, um, like aesthetic? Like, it's OK to be gruff, which is fine. Wish they had delivery, that being said.
