i really like this place. It says happy donut, but it's so much more...they are open at like ridiculous hours and have awesome sandwich meals. I say meals because they include potato salad and a bag of chips in a neat lunch bag type of thing. Plus their sandwiches are good as a mofo. Happy donuts? how bout happy sandwich. I've never had a donut there but i have had my share of sandwiches there, i love how its open when nowhere else is. Service was nice, place isnt like the cleanest placce, but they also called the place "happy donut" i mean you kinda gotta be a bit high to name your place that. this place makes me happy, so hit it up in the wee hours.
I love the donut sweetness! A respectable variety and pretty inexpensive. They also serve up a small selection of coffee, espresso drinks and sandwiches. Its very convenient since its right in the SOMA in front of the N and T lines.
The only real draw back is that they are cash only, but there is an atm in every store. If you guys would add that it would be perfect.

so very very good...
very very very very super crazy good...
I am partially sad/partially glad that they are cash only
sad because I rarely have cash- so I miss out on this place quite often
glad because I would probably die if they did take debit or credit -I would be here all the time
and yay for a delicious donut shop that doesn't use lard to fry their donuts- like a giant huge crazy YAY
the bagels, muffins, and coffee are good, too
the cashiers are super nice
just a really good, solid place.

The price is good, the coffee is good, and for some reason, the place is always completely dead. I can almost always just walk right up to the counter and order without waiting at all.
One thing I wish they had was nonfat or at least lowfat milk. They only have regular milk, half and half, or full cream. ? What is this? Texas? I've never tried their donuts, but they look damn good.
The other thing is that they don't take credit cards, so if I find myself with no cash, they are left behind.

Best donuts in the City - especially the glazed old-fashioned and cruller. Sketch factor on the clientele can loom large, but these goodies are worth it.

My favorite coffee shop across the street closed, so I had to pop into Happy for a coffee before my meeting. I'd choose a cafe that specializes in coffee over a donut shop any day, but was pleasantly surprised that Happy Donut had 8 varieties of serve-yourself coffee available. I got a medium for $1.25 (much cheaper than a small at many shops) and it was very tasty. However, my inner hippy was raging at the thick beastly styrafoam cups they force on customers. How can anyone, no less a local San Francisco chain, get away with using evil styrafoam in this day & age? I wasn't too happy about that.

I'm really into almond croissants. Almost every pastry/donut shop I go into always try to see if they have it and try it. Happy Donuts, sorry to say, has a pretty poor almond croissant. The almond paste has no flavor and it's like eating some kind of Chinese bun which I can't put my taste buds on now.
I do like their old fashioned glazed donut for $0.75. Skip the almond croissants and maybe the other pastries too.
I love the Happy Donut Chain. It's not too big, and seems very local. So I got no beef against it! Go Happy Donuts!!!

I pass by here every day on my way to work, but never stopped in until recently. One day, I had a few extra minutes, and picked up a muffin. For $1.35, you get a large and fairly delicious baked good. What's not to like?
a sandwich made-to-order and your choice of donut for $4.50. if I were poor I would come here every day and kiss the front door in gratitude. this is their daily lunch special from 11 am to 2 pm -- not bad at all, very tasty and quick service. the ladies are all gems, this is what customer service should be.
some mornings when I'm being fatly bad I buy the apple fritter (bigger than a Clydesdale's hoof) AND a magnifique bagful of donut holes (moist and tender sugar bombs) -- no, my boyfriend is NOT shallow Hal and I am not a heifer

have you ever had a muni morning? you know that one morning where you're skipping down the street in the sushine thinking "oh my god, i am going to be early, SIGNIFICANTLY early to work". and then MUNI tells your ass otherwise.
made the mistake of getting off the 6 to catch a downtown train at van ness and the shit is broke. the buses above ground are practically vacumn-packed with humanoids. it's a bit chilly, and the office is about 12 blocks away, but the sun is shining, i've got some time and i spy happy donuts.
i have $2 in my pocket and this buys me a medium, delicious coffee (i blend 3 types to my taste), a large, raised glazed donut, and the ability to say i have no money to the spangers alllllllll the way down market.
now that's a happy donut.
