I've been going to Linda on and off for the past 4 years. Happy Cuts has always been consistent and I've never left unhappy. Linda is great with coloring and highlights. She's very fast and I always get a lot of compliments on her work.
As for hair cuts Linda and the rest of the stylists are good, but not amazing if you're looking for something very modern or edgy-looking. The price is only $17, so you still get a lot for what you pay for.
A lot of men go there for hair cuts and seem to like it as well.
I've never had to wait long when I go in; I only make an appointment if I get highlights. There are a ton of regulars. Linda is personable and does her best at what you want and makes sure you look good at the same time. The rest of the staff are also very nice and friendly.
I would recommend this salon.
I have been going to Happy Cuts since I was in junior high and I'm now 32 years old. They are so friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the haircuts always turn out well. I usually get highlights too and they are very good. I also get my eyebrows waxed here too. What a great place!
I've been going to Linda and Ann (is she still there?) since I was a kid, for the past 15 odd years. They are both fantastic, fast, and cheap. I tell them what I want and I get exactly that, which is how customer service should be.
I'm not sure how this place has gotten such a high rating -- maybe because people feel pressured to write a review for their salon. I saw Linda, made an appointment for a cut & highlights and waited over half an hour to see her. When she found out I heard of them through yelp, she encouraged me many times throughout the appointment to write a review for them (here I am!! but MONTHS later).
She also kept reminding me that she could charge WAY more for her work... however, I do not agree. First of all, my cut was horrible. She asked that I chose a picture from a hair book to model from and my cut looked NOTHING and I mean NOTHING like the picture. She also gave me bangs which I suggested she not do (at the recommendation of dozens of stylists I saw before her). Yet I didn't fight her hard on this, I figured she knew what she was doing but it did indeed look horrible (friends and family definitely agree). I'm still wearing headbands and clips to keep them off my face. Secondly, the salon was extremely plain -- you can't go charging like you're the best stylist in the world if you can't keep basic cleanliness up.
They do not accept credit cards.
Linda does my coloring and cuts. She's so great. I found her after admiring a friend's color. She tells it like it is. If it's not good for you, she'll tell you. She gives me the best hair cuts and coloring. My hair grows so fast and my gray/white roots seem to shout out. She does a fantastic highlight that covers. She's always quick. The missing star is only because she's quick at washing my hair too and I like the other lady who takes a longer time and gives my head a good relaxing massage.
Both daughters go to her. One daughter lives in Elk Grove... she'll get her hair cut at a local salon but when she gets to the bay area, she'll then go to Linda to have it done right. Linda is excellent! She's someone you'd expect to find in one of those fancy smancy salons.
I went to this salon based on Yelp's recommendations. I had the same haircut for a few months and I wanted to try highlights, but didn't want to pay tons of money. I figured I'd give Happy Cuts a try.
Overall, I think this is a fine place. It is good if you are looking for a simple haircut. Maybe nothing too trendy, unless you know exactly what you want and the techniques needed to get the job done so you can explicitly tell the hair stylist to ensure you get what you want.
Personally, I was looking for a very trendy haircut. I looked at some pictures and showed them to her while I was there. What I wanted was more short layers and an overall layered look. What I got was some excellent layers in the front (exactly how I wanted them), but not too many layers all around. They weren't bad and she did an excellent job styling my hair and cutting it and everything. It just wasn't as trendy as what I was hoping for. Also, I asked for 4 inches off and got more like 5 off, so it was a bit shorter than I wanted. Though, If I had paid better attention, I'm sure this wouldn't have happened.
If you don't want uber-trendy hair and you are looking for a simple, modern cut or you know what you want, you will probably LOVE this place. If that was what I'd been looking for, I'd probably have given her 4-5 stars.
She did my highlights very quickly and she did a good job. Again, it wasn't quite what I wanted, at least at first. I was worried they looked way to 90s. Now (2 weeks later), I'm getting more used to them and becoming happier with it. I would say she did a 4 star job on my highlights. They are blended in well and look very natural. I have light brown hair with natural blonde highlights, and some people I worked with didn't even realize I'd gotten my hair done until a week or more later. So, that's good. She is very professional and good at this skill. I would recommend her for this. Again, it wasn't super trendy, but I appreciated her speed and accuracy.
The main reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is simply because it wasn't quite what I wanted, but she did a very good job overall. She fit me in to an appointment the same day and I waited very little. At the last minute I asked if she could do highlights and she said she could that same day while I was there. She told me she used to work at a salon in Palo Alto before her mother-in-law needed her at this salon. Her mother-in-law and husband both work there. I do think her 20 years of experience shows in good quality work. Also, she is a very nice person.
And, the price is insanely good. I think it's around $17 for a hair cut (don't quote me on that) and highlights are ~$95+ for the first time.
i have been going to see Linda since I was a sophomore in high school, at the recommendation of my friend whose mom had gone to her for over 5 years before. after moving all over the country and checking out countless salons ($120 for a freaking haircut?), whenever I come back to the Bay Area I make the trek out to see Linda. Not only does she do an amazing cut, and color, but she has always been patient with the fact that I have checked out other places that have inevitably ruined my hair.
Her prices are EXTREMELY reasonable- especially for the high level quality she puts in to your hair. I love Linda and have convinced my girlfriends, their moms, and even some guy friends to head out that way for a cut. And they're never dissappointed
I have been going to Happy Cuts for about 7 years now. I lived in Santa Clara when I first went there and then moved about 4 years ago to South San Jose. I am picky about cutting my long hair and Linda and Kim are the only ones I trust to cut my hair. Linda also does a WONDERFUL job with my highlights.
They work quickly and the prices are definitely reasonable! I always go out of that shop with a smile on my face!
So I walked in and i was immediately seated for a haircut! sweet! no wait! i'm sure everyone likes that. haha. a male hairstylist took care of me and trimmed my hair. he was very nice and professional. he accidentally dropped his comb and thank god he got another one. that shows me that cleanliness is important to him. good job! they didn't wash my hair, which can keep the price down, but then i wonder if it inhibits a better haircut. the haircut that he gave me was ok. its not bad, but sad to say that i have had better. he cut my hair, but i was hoping for a little more styling and "oomph" look for my hair. now, i just look like plain jane. i'm not sure if i will return. this place definitely gets alot of regular customers. i also like how they keep it clean and no weird smells! across from me was a lady getting her hair highlighted and i didn't smell anything at all! this place is prettty small so i would expect the funky chemical highlight smells lingering.. i don't know how they do it, but they must be doing something right.
although i may or may not return, i still think this hair salon is great because they are nice, professional, clean, fast, busy on a weekday afternoon and no appointment needed. i mean, who else do you know of where the place making good money on a weekday while other hair salons are most likely super empty?! this isn't my kind of hair salon, but i'm sure other people can be very happy with this place. and that is why they deserve 4 stars.
I used to go to Stilo on the peninsula but my girlfriend recommended Happy Cuts. It's right by work for me. Linda and Chris are both awesome. It's a great deal for a good haircut.
Linda is THE BEST at cut and color, and Chris does an excellent job on men's hair. They are SUPER reliable and reasonable. I've been to very high-end salons (e.g. W's and dipetro), but this one is as good. Don't let the exterior or location fool you. It's inhabitants equal those $$$$ ones :-)
I must admit, I'm hesitant to write this review, because I don't want Happy Cuts to become more popular (makes it harder for me to get in). But I love them so much that I feel obligated to recommend them. This place gives great hair cuts. Even though I moved, I still try to get most of my hair cuts from them.
