The reviews already posted show a little confusion.
"Bill" the owner of "Happy Bill's Family Restaurant" and "Bill's Custard Cafe" died a few years ago. His kids didn't want to be in the restaurant business so they sold both restaurants. "Happy Bill's" was sold to Emily who already owned a restaurant in Waukegan; it is now operated as "Emily's Pancake House" and is open only for breakfast and lunch. The food is good but "generic" family restaurant food.
Bills custard cafe is now owned by the guy who was the manager when Bill was still alive. The building was originally a Hardie's hamburger joint and looks a little run down. Don't let that deceive you. It is clean and the kitchen is first rate.
The food - especially that from the "daily specials" menu is superb. You had better bring a big appetite - you get more than you can eat. Figure on a doggy box.
You get a "free" bowl of soup with your meal. Their soups are so good, the local people buy it by the gallon to take home and feed their families.
This report is for two restaurants:
- Milly's is open only for breakfast and lunch.
- Milly's is a sit-down restaurant - the waitress takes your order...
- Bill's Custard Cafe opens at 8:00AM and closes at 9:00 PM.
- At Bill's you place your order at the counter, take your soup and
.. beverage to your table and the waitress will bring the rest of your
.. meal when it's ready. -

This place is great!!! The food is very good. Pretty typical family dining choices and at very reasonable prices. Always daily specials that are usually under $6 and include soup and a drink. Place is large, can hold a big group. If you're in the area, stop in.

My church comes here for breakfast on Easter Sundays. It's pretty good breakfast, and they've got space for big groups. Prices are reasonable, about average for the area.
