Mongolian Lamb? Yes, you heard correctly, Han's has Mongolian Lamb!
I'm finding more and more that Mercer Island is a convenient place to pick up things on the way home to Seattle in the evening. Dinner is no exception, and I stopped here tonight for take-out after going to the gym.
I was a bit confused when I entered because to the left of the foyer there was a woman sitting at a big fancy desk. For a moment, I thought I had entered a hotel or a salon, but no, this really was the restaurant. She cheerfully took my order.
Soo...I can tell you that the Mongolian Lamb at home was as good as it smelled in the Honda. Lots and lots of sweet lamb with a few green onions, red chili peppers and a delicious sauce.
I also picked up the Vegeterian eggrolls. Also very good! They had just the lightest hint of horseradish, but enough to give some nice zest.
I will definitely come back here to have a sit-down supper with JP in their Tuscany-furnitured dining room. OK, OK, I know Tuscany is a little dated, but the interior with its dark rich colors is still very appealing.
I saw a curious scene while here. This lady, maybe 55 years old, clad in jeans but who had had obvious facial "rejuvenation" work came in and paced around in the entry for a while. A hostess came around the corner and asked the lady if she was here for dinner. The lady, with a furious chop of her hand, cut the hostess off mid-sentence and in a scolding whisper indicated that she was taking a call. The hostess just turned around and walked the other way. Funny thing, the lady in jeans wasn't on her cell phone. A few seconds later the lady sighed loudly and left the restaurant. Alrighty then!
Stuck living on Mercer Island, our usual recourse is to high tail off island for decent food - but Lo and Behold! There's downright decent Chinese food to be had!
Love the house fried rice (I just tell them to hold the peas and carrots 'cause hey - what the heck are they doing in the rice anyway?) and they have several yumy vegetarian selections.
Their lunch specials are extremely generous and reasonably priced.
The service is friendly and actually pretty quick. If you go between 4:30 - 6pm you'll get an eyeful of the early bird diners which makes for interesting people watching.
Lots of people really like this place, including my family and friends.
I've been here probably 6 or 7 times, never been incredibly impressed, but not really disappointed, either.
But the last time I was here, I had the worst food I've ever had at a restaurant. I can't even describe it. And I am the least picky eater I know. It was as if they hadn't changed the fry oil in 3 days, and that they had re-fried all their cold leftovers. Disgusting, old, and frighteningly greasy. I didn't understand. I was too shocked at how gross it was to complain.
Han's Garden is surprisingly good, given its location on Mercer Island. I don't know about you, but I just never really think of Mercer Island when I want to get some good food. Not that it doesn't happen there...but anyways..
My parents introduced me to Han's, and at first I have to say I was skeptical. Upon entering, the entire place reminded me of a renovated Italian restaurant--with the "night sky" looking ceiling, and the random greenery and columns. Everything was decorated very interestingly, and wasn't at all reminiscent of the typical Chinese restaurant setup.
But then I got to the menu. They offer Kim Chee Fried Rice? I want it now! Salt and Pepper Pork, Garlic Pea Vine, Honey Walnut Prawns, Spicy Eggplant...omg. We had so much food I almost couldn't keep myself seated. I was constantly up and reaching over people because it was so delicious and I wanted seconds (how's that for manners?!). Since then, I've been back several times and have never been disappointed. In addition to the good food, the owner is very friendly and has a friendly staff working with him. I'd recommend it to anyone, and have, several times.
This is a choice lunch spot and a favorite of someone whos taste I respect.
Their lunch specials are generous, pretty tasty, and a bit of a local secret with the ID just a short trip across the bridge away.
This rundown looking Chinese restaurant on Mercer Island must have been there for awhile since million dollar condos are springing up all around it. When I pulled up and noticed the HUGE lit colored pictures of dishes in the windows I thought, "You've got to be kidding." (-*)
The food was ok. Don't order the peppered fried chicken. It's like a saltlick with bones (-*). The Mongolian beef and seafood bowl was ok.
so my housemates friend suggested this place for dinner last night. and i figure, since she's 1/4 manturirian (don't hate, it's a running house joke... and true) i figure she knows what's what. the fact that she's a native to the area helps. so we stroll in at close to 9, and the hostess was super nice and chearful. the place looked clean. and hey, it was open on mercer island at close to 9, a feat in and of itself.
i got the hand shaved noodles with bbq pork and my boy got the cashew chicken. really solid chicken, holly crap good noodles. all chewy and dumplin-like. the pork was tender but could have used more bbq flavor i thought. not the best chinese i've had, but close to home and reasonably good.
This place was horrible. I really wish that I could give it less than one star, for freaking ruining my life this last day or so. I just started a new opportunity at work, and today was supposed to be my first day of work. Well, rewind to last night when my ever so thoughtful boyfriend suggested picking up chinese food on mercer island because he would be there anyway and we both were not in a cooking mood. I got the lemon chicken, and just typing those words, almost makes me run back into the bathroom. You see when I tasted it, it was alright, nothing spectacticular, but my boyfriend had had a long day/night, and I ate it pleasantly. however at 12:30 am, and mind you my new job opportunity starts at 5 in renton, so this was not so far before I needed to wake up. I found myself violently ill, and was probably more sick then I've ever been, or at least more sick then I have been in a long time. I felt like I was dying, and still feel gross. I cannot keep food down, and had to call in to work. Thanks a lot Han's garden. Thanks for making me sick to my stomach. Thanks for ruining my first day of work. THanks for making it so that I cannot keep any food down, and will be not able to enjoy my boyfriend's big 25th birthday celebration. Y ou Suck! Please don't go here, unless you want to be violently ill!
