I went there to get a cake, and while I was in line I got tempted to try some pastries. The apple cream bavarian danish was soooo good! Real european style pastries. I can't stop thinking about it! The cake wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I like chiffon cake, and this cake was more dense like a pound cake. The mocha buttercream frosting was good. I don't think I'll go back for cake, but I will definitely be going back again and again for the pastries! I'm going to try their fresh fruit tart next time!
If you're anything like me, you'll drive that extra mile for good food, er, desserts. Fat girls love cake. Hell yeah I do!
Han's & Harry's was recommended to me by a former co-worker who lived out in Bonita. She would bring the most delicious muffins I've ever sunk my teeth into. They were huge with amazing strudel topping. And to think that the muffin top was the best part, you get a sensual surprise of cream filling in the middle. Oh sweet Vishnu, it's AMAZING!
Their other pastries look fantastic, but my heart (and arteries) crave the billion calorie muffin. It doesn't matter what flavor you get, they're all Vero-approved!
All the way in Bonita before you hit Proctor Valley Road? Oh yeah babe, totally worth the drive.

This is one of the best independent bakeries in the South Bay. They make unbelievable strudel. The fruit is very fresh and the pastry texture, flakiness and flavor is perfect. They have many varieties to choose from and the prices are reasonable too. This is a weekly stop for our family.

this place has amazing strudel topped with piles of fresh fruit. It comes i this long box and is a yard of fruity crispiness.
can i throw in an extra star cause after there strudels been sitting around in the fridge waiting for me to devour it, and the flaky crust is more like mush, ITS STILL DAMN GOOD! i dont even like strudels but when you get the freshest fruit and tons of butter...
it had me at hello.
Everything here is GOOD. I love their cakes and tarts that are topped with fruit. Everything tastes fresh and everything is priced right. Their strudels are sooo good. I always make sure to choose the one with the most strawberries. Man its FANTABULOUS! They have mini tarts made just like the strudel if you ever want to taste it. If im not ordering the strudel its the fruit topped cake with bavarian cream and you get to choose between chocolate or vanilla cake. IT soo gooood. They used to let you put fruit in the middle of the cake with the cream but for some reason they dont nomore. It was alot better when it was in the middle. Oh well it still doesnt stop me from coming here.
What's sad is that I can probably eat one of their giant fruit strudels all by myself. In one day. So good! There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about it.
My bf and I went there to get some bfast treats and anything else we saw that was worth trying. There was a line but it moved pretty fast. The only bad thing was the line of people blocked the display case, so once it was our turn to order I didn't really know what I wanted, and had to just randomly pick things. We ended up with a cinnamon roll, some sort of apple/cream filled danish, and an eclair, and the fruit strudel of course. What we liked about this place was everything was very light. Even though things were cream filled, we didn't feel stuffed after eating them. Everything was fresh, tasty, and just plain yummy!

Bought a tiramisu cake. I was satisfied with the taste of the cake. It was dry and hard. It did not taste like a tiramisu whatsoever. It was more like a regular cake. I do not recommend the tiramisu cake, at least not the one I got.

i love their fruit strudel, but who doesn't? their cakes are good as well, but for a moment my family ordered cake from here for every family occasion and i got sick of their cakes. but they're still good. i don't like cakes too sweet and their cakes are definitely not too sweet at all. they have other lovely pastries there as well, but i haven't really tried them, but they look good. downfall, is that they're not open on sundays so if you need a cake or strudel for a sunday, better pick it up on saturday =)

GOOD GOD. I had a piece of a strudel that was a gift for some nurses that I used to work with and it was freaking amazing. It was lovely to eat and look at. Never made it to the shop itself, but I would love to and I hear this place is really a staple.

The strudel here has got to be just as much of a staple to any San Diego Filipino party as the fried chicken wings from Golden Chopsticks. I feel confident going to any party in my hometown for these two goodies.
My family loves their basic fruit strudel. I insisted that my dad try it for the first time at a family friend's party....He gradually ate half of one strudel throughout the event. My brother and I have since made it a mandatory tradition to order one for our dad's birthday and father's day.
While I have tried some of the little pastries they offer, their fruit strudel is delicious, light-tasting, and refreshing. While I don't want to imagine how many calories a serving of this treat is, I don't feel gross after eating this compared to other desserts. The bavarian cream is just heavenly...

I finally got to try their famous fruit strudels and I was not disappointed! Those bad boys are delicious! I bought the long ass fruit strudel and I actually thought that it would be too much for me and my friend to finish but lo and behold - its almost gone (and I bought it yesterday). Those fruit strudels will ruin anyones diet but do I feel guilty? Not a bit. I would pretty much say that those fruit strudels are in strong competition against Porto's fruit tarts. I might need to swing my Portos some time and give them a fair chance.
Its a good thing that this bakery is far from my house.....
Their fruit steudels, may be round or long, is a knock out. YUMMY!

Someone brought this over from Hans & Harrys and I couldn't believe my eyes when they opened the box! The strudels are HUGE! I mean, they're like those long 6 foot sandwiches you see on TV. Yeah, they're that big. Sure enough, we had quite a few people so we had to cut it into little pieces. But I swear, I could've eaten the whole thing.
We had 2 types of strudel: the fresh fruit one, topped with strawberry, kiwi, and blueberry and then the mocha one, topped with chocolate, mocha and whipped cream. Although I'm not a fan of mocha, I still liked the flavor of the mocha one. My favorite of course, was the fresh fruit one. Just an awesome piece of work. Very delicious.

I love this bakery every time a family party happens my family always buys 2 of their fruit strudels and once we put it down on the table it is gone. Make sure to call in advance to make sure they still have some because there has been times where they have ran out when we arrived haha

Absolutely MARVELOUS! Fresh Fruit Struedels are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! 1 is perfect for a small parties of about 5 and anything over 5 better get 2, 3,. 4, or even more. Ordered a 1/2 sheet of fresh fruit and whip cream cake and it was just as good as the struedels. Can't go wrong with Han's and Harry's :)
Muy delicioso. But muy expensivo for the cakes that is. But very well worth it.

If you give Hans and Harry's two stars, you obviously have not tried their fruit strudel.
I love how there's a round fruit strudel for gift-giving, and a small fruit tart if you want something all for yourself. As for the gourmet cake department, I recommend the Black Forest and Fruit & Whipped Cream flavors. I wasn't really into the Dark Chocolate Mousse cake. Other yummy snacks include the turtle cheesecake and the tiramisu. I am so lucky my house is a short drive away from here.
EDITED 03/06/08:
Last Christmas season, my dad bought some Santa sugar cookies and I thought they tasted great. They're buttery and sweet, but not too sweet. The sugar cookies are decorated depending on the current season. It's safe for me to say that Hans and Harry's makes great sugar cookies year-round. The staff here is friendly and patient when I'm indecisive in ordering!

I really enjoy the fruit strudel here, it's tender and flaky with lovely cream and berries/kiwis. The buttermilk scones are great comfort food, too. They've been there since the early 90's, we used to stop in for a quick pastry treat during our days at Southwestern College. You can order the strudel early and pick it up later. :) YUM

I am a huge fan of desserts, and Hans & Harry's has never let me down. I was first introduced to the delights of H&H at an office party when I was 19 years old. I am now 20 *cough*cough* years old and whenever there's an office party, potluck, or friendly get together, I bring something from H&H. Moreover, when it came time to plan my wedding, I never even thought of contacting any other cakery. For the wedding cake, I ordered a 3-tier with White Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Macadamia Mousse, and my ALL-TIME FAVORITE, the oh-so-delicious Passion Fruit Mousse. *drool*
H&H also offers a wide range of yummy desserts and pastries. Their famous (or even infamous if you ask my hips) Fruit Struedel is so good; cookies and pies are always great; and the Strawberry Shortcake is creamy and dreamy!
If you're ever in the area - do yourself a favor and stop at Hans & Harry's.

5 stars for sure for their fruit strudel. and what a deal considering it's like 3 feet long, or so it seems. Must reserve your fruit strudel early or they run out... i wish i lived closer...

The fresh fruit streudel mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm worth the $19.99. They have little desserts, truffles, a one person sized streudel and other treats. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
They have a variety of other streudels, but I think you have to pre-order them, because I didn't see any in the case the last time I went to Hans and Harry's.
They have a round streudel and the long one, both $19.99, but I think the long rectangular one has more. You can get it sliced if you don't want to lug around a big box, but i think it cost $1 or $2.

H & H's Desserts are the best around Chula Juana. Their yard-long strudel lasts about 5 minutes on my table anytime we buy one for a family party and their cream puffs are absolutely scrum-diddeli-umtious.

My wife and I went there to get a small cake for our anniversary, and we weren't terribly thrilled with it. The flavor was bland, and the buttercream icing was tasted and discarded to the side of the plate.
Others may have had better experiences, but not us!

I love this place, it has this cute little small town bakery feel to it. I don't think I've ever gotten anything here that ever disappointed me. As others have mentioned their "specialty" is their fruit streudel, which is damn good. But don't hesitate to get other things.. everything is always fresh and yummy! Lines can go out the door at times.. mainly people trying to get the strudel. Just make it easy on yourself and drop by on a weekday

Oh my.. Can't say enough about Hans and Harry's!! They have the best of every dessert imaginable.. whether it be their strudel, cakes, or even their cookies.. Hans and Harry's is an exceptional bakery. And their staff is so friendly, too. Definitely a recommendation to all!
Hesitant to recommend as I don't want to wait in line behind you. That being said, this is by far the finest bakery anywhere in South County and likely in all of SD. This is a German style bakery, though the owners are Dutch, but there is nothing that is not authentic about this place. They do it all and do it all extremely well. There is not a better place to get pastries, cakes or their specialty the fruit strudel. Could not be more highly recommended. My relatives, when visiting always ask to go there and always want to visit more than once. Also makes me a big hit at work when I bring the pastries in on a Monday morning. Try it, but don't make me wait in line behind you!!!

Fresh fruit. Cookies. Cakes. Mousse's. Chocolate. Light deserts. Decadent deserts. Everything yummy. One of their top selling item on their menu is the fresh fruit streudel. It's about 3 ft long and there is a fresh fruit topping consisting of strawberries, blueberries, kiwis and peaches. The topping is a light custard like pudding and the streudel is really flaky (but not too flaky), light, and not too sweet.
They have everything for really cheap to more expensive (the cakes pies etc.). Really quaint too. Must have.

it was my boss's birthday today and someone brought a hans and harry's fruit strudel!! it was off the hook. everything about it was awesome. the fruits (strawberries, peach and kiwi) were fresh. the cream was not too sweet...it was just right. the pastry part was a great contrast to the oh so good cream and fruits...best strudel ever!

hands down the best bakery I have ever gone too!!! I wish there was one close to me :(
My family has been visiting this bakery for the past eight years now, and it has never failed us once.
This place has the perfect dessert for any occasion, and the quality is superb. My all-time favorites include the fresh fruit tartlets and the holiday butter cookies. For parties, you can't go wrong with the fresh fruit streudel, and their selection of cake slices (opera cake!), tartlets, brownies, and other small pastries makes excellent gifts as well.
To top it all off, it's incredibly cute.
