This place is among our favorites.
Th owners do a great job of booking music for a variety of tastes. One weekend lineup might not be our cup of tea, but the next weekend surely would be.
The experienced staff here are very friendly and the owners are very accommodating. -

You know that Buffy episode called "Band Candy"? Where the adults eat candy bars and suddenly act like teenagers even though they're still 40 something years old? This is what I experienced tonight at Hanover's.
The bar itself is in an interesting little downtown area of Pflugerville that I actually really like. It's kind of a divey bar. Not scary divey. Just divey enough for weekend biker poseurs to feel like they're being tough by hanging out there. I'm talking about those commercials on tv about the biker gang of lawyers (or is it lawyer gang of bikers?) who claim to specialize in biker-related court cases. This is where these guys go to 'quote' party '/quote'.
There was a seven dollar cover charge after midnight for an all-girl cover band. Yeah they were cute and all (I thought the bassist was awfully cute and I don't even like chicks) but I can go to a karaoke bar and get similar cover songs without paying seven bucks at the door. And I wouldn't have to watch men that look like my creepy old uncle try to do a 'sexy dance' on the dance floor with his middle aged girlfriend.
Please don't get me wrong, people of every size and shape are sexy in their own ways. But this..this was where people who used to go to sixth street in the early nineties have ended up since they've settled in the suburbs. And they think they're still rocking that mullet and stache. I say just own your debauchery, suck it up, and drive to the actual dive bars. Or keep it to your rumpus room like a proper suburbanite. Either way, just let me enjoy the music and leave me alone.
The beer was reasonably priced but the emotional cost of being checked out by weekend biker warriors was very high. My friend and I made it clear we were uninterested in random male attention so we were called lesbians (not that we cared really) AND there was indoor smoking. Blech! They started stacking the bar stools right around us at 1:30 am so we felt rushed to finish our pitcher. All around a bad and gross night. -

I have always loved the fact that there is something timeless and remarkably old-school Texas when it comes to Pflugerville. A trip down 1825 and past Heatherwilde is almost like a portal to small town simplicity, and the charm of the businesses therein is undeniable.
There aren't a plethora of watering holes in the area, so quality is a big factor here. I understand I am spoiled, as the entire Austin metroplex houses countless places to go relax and share a cold drink with good company. So coming to a place like Hanover's might seem underwhelming, but I would rather see it as the perfect getaway from all the lights, the noise, and the crowds.
The inside itself is cozy, the bar lengthy with a room boasting a large stage for performances and karaoke. As an aside I will say the karaoke is best heard from the outside when you have some space and walls between you to mute the sound a bit.
Opening the back door, however, eradicates any use of the word "cozy" away immediately. I walked past the literal welcoming committee who cheered for my exodus from the inside and foray into the patio. Patio doesn't seem a fitting word, this was a whole new world. There were tables, grills, and grass as far as the eye could see. Another, much larger stage was outside along with a few grills and a couple of volleyball courts. A couple went into a smaller building I assumed was the love shack, but it turned out to be the outdoor restroom.
Whatever the case, I loved Hanover's in that it reminded me of South African late afternoons where we had sprawling backyards, and sipped on cold beverages with close friends as we watched the sun fade into the horizon.Listed in: Keep it Flowin'

Located in downtown Pflugerville, the downtown area looks like the little old town it used to be. This building has a lot of history, since originally this saloon was built over 100 years ago. I spent the majority of my later childhood and all my teen years living in Pflugerville, and then some after college. And of course I end up coming back when I'm up north. You see, Pville may boast over 50,000 people now but there aren't a lot of bars to choose from still. Just 3 that I'm aware of. And Hanover's is the best it gets here, and its not a bad place local bar/hangout if you're in the neighborhood. The crowd is diverse (or getting more to be) and definitely has some devoted, local clients.
Live music every Weds, Fri & Saturday with a measly $5-$10 cover is nothing to complain about. I've seen friends of mine ( locals) play shows here as well as "bigger" local bands like Vallejo. Always a blast. Its spacious along with a huge outside patio that is used for shows with volleyball courts. Karaoke Mon, Tues & Thurs for those brave souls, as well as poker nights on Sundays. Offering pool tables, horse shoe pits and darts there are plenty of things to choose from. But be aware this is not Austin and smoking is not banned in Pflugerville. They also claim to be pet friendly, but I wouldn't bring my dog to a bar. Within walking distance to the other 2 bars in downtown Pville. You've got options between dive bars. And unlike downtown Austin, parking isn't an issue here.Listed in: For the Northies, Pet friendly patios, Dive-tastic

It would be borderline remarkable if I could effectively muse of the experience of others here, but since I can't, really, I won't. Really. I've been to Hanover's a few times through the years, and what you see by my estimation is mostly what you get - a room that tends to book pretty decent Austin singer songwriter talent and a few fun shows (we caught the most recent Skyrocket opus last night), and boasts an expansive backyard and solid cadre of brew taps. They're not reinventing the atom here (and let's face it, that would be weird), but what they are doing is fairly tried and true. And more times than not it's worked just fine for me.
There are some quirky peculiarities to be certain: the fact that the place has that sort of sideways / Antone's thing happening where you're very close to the stage at all times and very close to the bar besides. On our stop, the music was happening inside and outside there was an entirely different juju, what with some piped in C&W giving way to country swing on a patio with room to spare. It won't be for everyone, and it's not always subtle. But for an evening with little pretension and more rolliciking smiles than a room full of hayrides, Hanover's did me just right.Listed in: Miscellaneous 5-1-2.

Disclaimer: I was in fact quite inebriated by the end of the evening, but I still enjoyed myself, so take the review for what its worth.
I tried this place for two reasons: First, it was recommended from a good friend who frequents the bar. Second, there was a band I wanted to see playing there as well. Since there was live music, there was a cover charge, but it wasn't unreasonable, so no biggie. All of the staff was friendly and quick to fill my drink orders, even as it got more and more crowded. And the drinks weren't weak, so all the better!
Since my evening was a bit blurred by the end, I'll do a quick summary of what I did & didn't care for.
Pros:
* Live music - The stage area and dance floor was nicely set up to accomodate bands of different sizes
* Large outdoor area
* Diverse crowd
Cons:
* Smoking allowed inside - While I found the place to be fairly well ventilated, I know that cigarette smoke can really get to people. Be warned that people are allowed and will be smoking inside.
* Far North location - If you're in the neighborhood, its a fun place, but I can see how trekking in from downtown or south Austin would be problematic.
Clearly, I had a good time, so I'll definitely be back for another visit when I'm in the area :)Listed in: Drinkin' in Austin

So my buddies and me finally ventured into Pflugerville. Granted, after an entire day of World Cup watching and drinking beer we were slightly tipsy when we arrived at Hanover's but the first impression of the place was definitely good. They had a $5 cover and two bands playing, one cover band inside that played 80's and 90's music and a country band outside. There is a huge outdoor area in the back and the place. The place definitely has a dive-like feel and a mixed crowed, not bad at all. Since this is Pflugerville, they allow smoking inside which bothers some people but the place seems to be pretty well ventilated. Bartenders were friendly, good selection of beers, no complaints here.
So, it's not like South or East Austin but for the North this is actually a good place to go, and it's still better than West 6th :) -

On the dive bar scale this bar rates about a 6, with 10 being the most dive-ish. Wood floor, old tables, stools with holes in the vinyl upholstered tops, pool tables and a juke box made the "dive theme" work. Plus bartenders who serve the loud drunks before those who wait patiently for their attention. Jerks.
We were here last night to hear a friend, Kevin Havron and his talented young sidekick Earl, who's last name I never got. Kevin is a great guitarist and song writer and Earl is multi-talented as well, singing, strumming and playing the drums for the headliner band. We enjoyed meeting all the Pflugerville throng that hangs with these guys. Kevin plays many original tunes and it was apparent the two crowd favorites are"Longhorn Orange" and "Pflugerville". Both are audience participation and the more beer you drink, the more you are allowed to participate.
A big plus--Hanover's serves my favorite pear hard cider and they have a large selection of beer--more than 15 varieties on tap which makes Hubby happy. The one BIG downer is that Pflugerville has not banned indoor smoking. Ugh. -

Hanny's is cool local bar in Pflugerville... It does take a little getting used too but it grows on ya. Seems more folks around during warmer months due to the outdoor volleyball tournaments, which is cool to watch while chuggin' brews. They have a pretty good variety of beer. Inside is kind of dark and lots of wood everywhere. 2 pool tables and of course the stage. Have seen several decent bands there who i dont really know...but they were good. If you've never been here you'll think 4 stars is too high but hey, gotta prop my local bar. Best thing about Hanny's... I can walk home if i need to.
Also...I often call this bar Hanovers on the way in and Hangovers on the way home.Listed in: Pflugerlicious, Dive right on in !

This is a great place to enjoy your drinks and have fun at the same time too. Unlike 6th Street's crowded bars, Hanover's is enjoyable because there is alot of room, great drink selection and outdoor area for you to enjoy their drinks!
I love going there on Sundays to enjoy their Poker Night and I enjoy Friday and Saturdays since they often have a band playing.
What makes this place different is the atmosphere. I don't like being packed into a bar just to enjoy a drink. I just want to be able to sit down, enjoy my drink and listen to music. This is why I come here!
I love the owners since they are always accomodating and I definitely be coming here more often for the summer when its time to play volleyball on their courts! Yes, they have volleyball courts! :) -

Bust my buttons and strip my gears!
Sorry guys!
Stopped by the other day, walked into the place, 2 steps in, I turned and left. So I can't comment on food, place or bands or beer.
I can only say if you are a non smoker avoid this place unless you don't mind smoke. Two steps in I was so overcome by cigarette smoke I just left.
That is why I can't review anything about this place.
Will I go back? No. -

Hanovers is one of my favorite Pville spots. Besides the fact that it's an easy stumble home, it's also a nice, relaxed place to get a drink and hang out. I also really like that you can smoke inside - Austin bars are so sterile. The bartenders are always friendly, and they've got a great draft selection - at least 15 beers. The bar staff seems trained on their beer, too, which isn't always the case in places that have a ton of drafts.
I don't know if I'd drive up from Austin to come here, but if you live in the neighborhood it's definitely worth a visit. -

Ten years ago I lived in Round Rock and went to Hanovers weekly. It was a great place. I went there tonight for the first time since 2002. It was awful. No food, ok beer, no wait staff, and lots of cigarette smoke. I won't ever go back.

rumor has it this place is a lumberyard turned bar. i believe it, the building looks like it belongs to another time (actually every building in downtown pflugerville looks like it belongs in another time and place) and the interior has some gorgeous floors.
went tonight to meet friends to see vallejo. there was a $10 cover but we were with the band and so didn't have to pay. they tried to make us pay initially b/c someone had slipped them a completely fake VIP list and we obviously weren't on that one, but then the agent caught word of what happened and found the real list and we got in ok.
i like the atmosphere. there's no pretentiousness. the back patio provides a nice quiet contrast to the loud interior with the live acts. it's an interesting mix of people compared to what we're used to but i think it's a pretty good representative of pflugerville.
the best part of the night, and the part i wasn't prepared for, was seeing the beautiful and darkened old time buildings across the street as we left. we went from a night of exceptionally loud live rock to stepping into a street from the late 1800s. surreal. -

Booooooooooooooo. Still reeks of smoke, rude bartendress (really? There are 5 people here and you dont see me at the bar), and they could use a facelift, and a bigger bathroom. One star because it's close to my place of employment. When people schedule happy hours here, i don't go. Except the once. Which is why i wont go again.

Hanover's is OK. Just OK. Karaoke is painful though. To loud and the host is annoying.
