    My go to korean supermarket!
I love this place, it has EVERYTHING that you want, so much more and on weekends they do alot of samples! I got to try their homemade jajang bean sauce! (delish!) , the fish is one of my favorites and i really like the mung bean jelly with that soysauce like sauce. Yum! I always bee line to the banchans - seaweed, spicy squid, kimchi, fish cake, spicy cucumber, sometimes kalbi.  It gets packed in and out of the market! the parking lot is ridiculously packed even for its 'spacious' parking lot, then you have long lines at the cash register. I love love love the mandu that they sell there, and i love browsing their snack section. Another favorite part of my trip is eating at their deli - the bimbap, the fish cake w/rice cake plate, the kimchi stew....yummy!!

I think this place is a gem in sunnyvale and i miss it now since i live so far away. =)

This market is a mini foodie wonderland. There are small stores that lines the perimeter. The middle of the store is filled with rows of frozen food, shelves full of spices, and a huge bar of marinated meats and pickled veggies! I always grab items from the fresh selection of sashimi and a seaweed salad in the back of the store too. There are do many great things about this market. You just have to go eat, drink, and shop for yourself. I recommend eating first then walk around to help the food digest.  Mmmmmm!  There is food to order and few table to sit in the back of the store.

Kimchee is abundant here. There are lots of brand choice and a few temperature choices.  There are many kimchee locations around the store.  Just walk around until you find the brand you like.  I do the same thing when I am in search for seaweed.

    Happy eating and shopping!

3.5 stars for this Korean market. Half of their items are a lot more expensive that regular Asian markets. However, their best part is the self serve banchan stations!

Imagine Whole Foods with their prepared foods by the pound. Instead of mashed potatoes, there's sea squirt. Instead of kale salad, there are pickled cucumbers. You scoop a different ban chan into different contains as each varies in price. There are also raw meats to purchase by the pound such as Korean BBQ short ribs.

Don't know many Korean markets as large as this one in the Bay area, so this will do whenever I'm in town.

Seems like your regular Asian supermarket except for one thing...
the self-serve Banchan Bar. Usually the stuff comes pre-packaged and only a small variety. Here they've got a good variety of banchan.

Marinated spare ribs is the ONLY reason I come here.... BBQ perfection and I have not found any other spare ribs that can compare to this place.. I  wish I knew what they use in that yummy marinate. Straight meat lovers guilty grubbing!!

These spare ribs are very thin cut and marinated in something that is "oh so tasty".  I believe it's $7.99 a pound or $8.99.  Please note, you will pay extra for the plastic container you place your meat in!!!!

If you are a true meat eater, I recommend you try these tasty spare ribs out!!!

Can I trade our Kukje Market at Daly City for this one?!?!?!

Came here after going to Palace Buffet BBQ, and wooowww. This place is HUGE and CLEAN. I don't think I've ever been to a supermarket that's so clean and bright. I probably could eat off the floor. I'm not saying I will, but you get the point.

Prices are the same as other supermarkets, but some items go on sale of course. And they offer food samples. I would say that they have a lot more food in stock that you don't see in other Korean supermarkets like Kukje.
They have cooked food in the back area where you grab a container and fill up as much as you want (charged by weight on different items, so you have to box separately, I think).

In the back are cute 2 cute little gift stores. One sells some jewelry and bags. They have the obvious fake LV bags. haha

I really wish this was closer to my house instead of all the way in Sunnyvale. ;( I seriously wouldn't mind exchanging it with Kukje.

I am torn writing this review. I don't want to release this on Thanksgiving but I feel that I am going to do my friends and fans a disservice if I don't say something.

Let's get this straight - I love Hankook. I consider this the Asian version of Whole Foods. I love the wide selection of kimchis freshly available at whatever quantity you choose, along with perfectly seasoned meats. I especially love the BBQ Chicken and kimchi radish.

I also love the fresh sashimi selection. I enjoy the salmon. It has a buttery taste to it that's quite simply delicious.

I came here yesterday to get groceries for my Thanksgiving lunch with my in-laws. I got the salmon and red snapper sashimi, along with Ribeye & Chicken to BBQ at home. I had the sashimi last night and the BBQ today for lunch. I believe the sashimi gave me food poisoning. Specifically, the Red Snapper Sashimi. I took one bite of it last night and it tasted funky so I threw the rest away.

Today, I've been paying homage to the porcelain gods.

My buddy Marco also bought fish here last week, White Tuna Sashimi to be exact. He and his wife also suffered a bad case of food poisoning. He's scared and is now throwing away the frozen fish he bought there as he has a baby son to think about.

All in all, I hope this review helps Hankook review its sashimi to make sure it's edible to sell to the public. I love you still Hankook but this sucks on Turkey Day.

There is a ton of Korean/Asian Markets in the South Bay. But I have only been to a few in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara.

But Hankook, which is located next door from the Palace Buffet BBQ (the place I can't cook), is clearly one of the cleanest and spacious Asian markets I've ever been.

    How clean is this place?

I can walk and browse around the store with just my sock on and still would not turn black. "Oh, my black sock is still black!"

And this is one of the airiest markets in the Sunnyvale. When you walk in, on the right is a Verizon Mobile booth, a jewelry store and a huge produce section with a wide selection of fresh Asian fruit and vegetables.

In the back are a gift store, a bakery, a deli and a service meat section. From the deli, I bought a prepackaged Kim Bap sushi for $4.50 and must be purchase at that spot. Delicious!

In the middle of the store, there are self-service bulk ban-chan and raw items to take home and cook. Or you can buy some of the items and sneak them into the Palace Buffet and cook them at the restaurant.

The only things I bought a bottle of Hanju Soju for my date this weekend. I also bought a Salonpas Pain spray for my relief after my workout.

I wish this store were not 35 miles away from home. But in Sunnyvale, the store is definitely a must go.

I've been looking for a Korean market similar to Hmart and I think I found it here.  This place is great!  Prices are reasonable and they have all the Asian veggies that I've been craving for.

I bought some marinated rib eye and rice cakes during lunch later and will be making it tonight for dinner.  Hopefully this cures my Korean food craving...

For our two year anniversary, my romantically challenged boyfriend decided that, based my my penchant for korean food, he would get me a gift from Hankook Supermarket to celebrate.

I came home from work that day to an olfactory assault. And to the words I *Heart* U spelled out with three kinds of kimchi on the kitchen table.

Han Kook is obviously the penultimate retailer of mistakenly romantic trifles along the SF peninsula. And on that basis alone, it deserves 5 stars.

Excellent large, clean Korean market. Also a little pricier than Chinese markets, but you get what you pay for -- this place is much cleaner (some Ranch 99's are pretty clean too but Ranch is more expensive than the lesser-known Chinese markets).

I spent quite a bit on pre-marinated Korean BBQ meats. :S

This place is waayyyy better than KyoPo or any other Korean markets in the area.

Every time someone from Korea travels to our offices in Santa Clara, they always stop by here to stalk up on good Korean eats.

I also like how they have a Shiseido counter and offer other beauty products as part of their ever expanding store.  I can go grocery shopping and pick up moisturizer all in one trip!  The girl behind the Shiseido counter is super sweet and very knowledgeable about all the products.  They also have samples!

This is definitely a one stop shop for all your needs!

This is the best Korean Supermarket I have ever been too!  It has Korean side dishes that you can buy and marinated and pickled foods. Oh and this place is very clean.

They have a Great Selection of  Korean instant noodles and an awesome Snack and candy selection! You can buy lots of Korean ingredient to make whatever Korean dish you like, like bi bim bap or bulgogi etc.

There are also little shops in the supermarket as well.  There is a little gift shop filled with cute things from hair decorations  to cute books and writing utensils they also have some Kpop stuff too for those who are in to it.  They also have some clothing stores in here as well but they are very expensive.

This is surely a Super market and is an absolutely wonderful place to buy Korean groceries from!

The best I've seen in the SF Bay Area.

They have everything you would want in a Asian supermarket.

    Very reasonable prices.

    Super-super clean inside.

    Efficient cashiers, too!

    Great surroundings!

Too bad it's far for me to shop; however whenever I know I will by in the South Bay, I clear out my trunk-space and make a special trip there.

This is the place to go to purchase Korean BBQ to cook yourself. They have the uncooked meat and prepared sides set up like a salad bar. Containers are placed so that you can put as much or as little as you need in the container and you pay by weight.

They also have a Deli in the back where you can purchase prepared hot food and soup.

We didn't actually buy any groceries here but wanted to check it out after feasting on all-you-can-eat KBBQ next door. :)

Now, I've been into MANY Vietnamese supermarkets before and let me tell you, we're effin ghetto & dirty when it comes to maintenance of a shop. Haha, just leave it to the Japanese & Koreans to keep things in order!

This market was super stocked with TONS of Korean meats & veggies. I've never seen a whole aisle dedicated to kimchi. :D

They had snack aisles too with tons of cute little Korean candies, cookies and other sweets. Damn I wish I bought a bag of goodies there before I changed my lifestyle to healthy nutrition & fitness. Shucks!

What I did purchase here was at a bakery/cafe INSIDE of the market. I bought myself a delicious Korean pastry with bean paste. I'm a HUGE fan of red bean or taro paste...mmmm mmm baby, spread it ova my tata's pretty please!

They also have staff here cooking up some meat samples for tasting too. We had to avoid them because we just basically ate 10 pigs and 5 cows from next door. Gotta love that KBBQ.

If I ever decide to throw a Korean themed party, I'd definitely shop for all the food necessities here.

This is my favorite favorite Korean supermarket. This is definitely a place where all the "young-ins" go. Definitely not a favorite of the ah-juh-mahs (older ladies) but I can see why since I think this is the most "Americanized" Korean supermarket out there.

The selection here is wonderful and the banchan (side dishes) are usually good and they probably have the best marinated meat (kalbi, pork, etc.). Plus they always have MSG-free Kimchi! The quality of the fish is better than most Asian markets and I love that they always have samples floating around.

The bakery there is pretty good - you MUST try the sour cream bread. It's SO SO good.

If you're an ahjuhmah though, you'll probably like Super Kyo Po better - that place feels like you're literaly in Korea.

Also for sliced meats like (cha dol and sam kyup sal), you're better off going to Oriental Market. They have the BEST in the area (this is well-known only among ahjuhmahs).

    - Food samples on the weekends!

    - Food stand inside sells really good korean sushi.  Spend the extra dollar or so and get the one with 7 ingredients.

    - Bakery and other prepared food items for sale.  It even has an eating area inside the supermarket so you can eat what you just bought.

    - A buffet of marinated meats and bon chon items to purchase by the weight.  Only bad thing is that you can't sample it before you buy.

This place is amazing!!! Mini shops inside a supermarket and buffet style kimchi/korean bbq = DREAM COME TRUE!!

The have a mini deli that serves a bunch of food, a Hello Kitty-like store, a bakery, and a lot of free samples!! My kind of market. Some of the things (like the candies) are extremely overpriced. But some of the items (like frozen goods) are extremely affordable.

When I stepped into the snacks aisle it took everything in me to not buy everything. My favorite part of the store is the self serve sides and meats. It is AMAZING!! It makes doing your own Korean BBQ at home so easy! Just come here and buy the meat of your choice, some sides, and all done!!

Will definitely be back for more Korean goodies

This is my favorite Korean supermarket in the south bay by far.  Even when the newer Super Kyopo opened, it was hard to beat Hankook.  I had to come back.  I feel like this store's most organized and comprehensive.  I love the deli and the self-serve "banchan" spread.  The fish/meat department's also excellent.  I love their selection of fish.  I pick up dduk (Korean rice cake) here because of the selection.  It's not as skimpy as other Korean markets.  They started to get more organic veggies.  The price is right here at this Korean market.  For conventional produce, you can't beat the price here.  And since the turnover is high, I've only seen fresh produce.

I f*cking love this place!  Sorry, too short?  Not descriptive?  Okay, how about...I REALLY f*cking love this place!

Until we stopped in to buy supplies for a friend's BBQ, my favorite Korean supermarkets had been Koreana/Pusan in Oakland and Kukje in Daly City.  Both are pretty awesome places when you just want to wander through all the Korean goods and kill some time (Kukje more so), but neither can come close to this place.  In nearly every way, Hankook has them beat...and then some.

Just walking in, the first thing you notice is how big this market really is.  Beyond the aisles and aisles of things to buy, they even have stores within the store.  While they have the same sort of cosmetics counter that you'll find at the other two, there's also one for DVD's/CD's/toys, one for herbs/supplements, a bakery, a hot food counter (with a seating area), a cell phone service counter, and even a few that sell clothing.  Seriously, throw in a Panda Express and a Mrs. Fields and you've got yourself a mall within a supermarket.

After walking around a bit more, the other big thing you realize is just how clean and organized everything is.  Although they sell a HUGE variety of items, you don't see any sort of clutter or mess.  And given the wide range and selection they offer, it's impressive how well they have everything arranged so that things are easy to find.  My favorite part of the store though has got to be their self-serve area of banchan items and meats.  While other places will sell them prepackaged, I like that you get to fill your own containers.  This way, you get the exact portion you want/need, and it's kind of fun to fill up the boxes with those tasty goodies (does that make me weird?).

With friendly workers, fair prices, and a huge, clean store to spend way too much time in, there's not much not to like about Hankook.  The only way I can think of that Kukje tops Hankook is the distance from my house.  Seriously, why can't it be closer?!  Then again, considering how often I would go and how much I would spend, maybe it's not such a bad thing that it's a ways away from me.  Naaaah, nevermind...it's still bad.

This place got to be the most popular Korean supermarket in the Southbay. It's well known among my family and friends. Hankook always comes up during a conversation of Asian supermarkets and food.

It's clean, spacious, well organized and they have a variety of mini market inside. These mini markets consist of a clothing store, bakery, food court and more. The meats and vegetables are not only well stocked, but fresh. My fiance loves cooking with the Kalbi beef here because it's so tender and lean. If you're a fan of Korean and Japanese snacks, look no further. They carry a wide range or crackers, chips and candy. You will feel like a little kid once you adventure into the isles. Don't forget the rice sales they have occasionally. You can't beat a 25lb bag of Japanese white rice for $5!

FINALLY I write a review on my favorite KOREAN MARKET!
    I RECOMMENDED COMING HERE PERIOD!

I grew up in Sunnyvale and ever since I was born I remember this place by heart. This market has change lot over the year and it only get better and better every time. It is by far the most cleanest and most neat Korean market anywhere I go by far! Now that I live in Fremont I have to drive all the way just to come to this store and do some grocery shopping most of the time, it always packed here, there a salon store, bakery store, galleria, beauty shop Laneige and Amore haha wow some good ass stuff here, you name it food court. We Koreans know how to be neat. What I notice here is the fish and seafood and the meat section you can't smell rotten stuff which is a HUGE PLUS! and the fruit and vegetable look like fresh.

THE WORST THING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS
the parking lot is always full and hard to find parking spot trust me on this it such a pain, but it worth coming here though. :]

The best Asian supermarket in the bay area! SO CLEAN and so much good food! You can also eat in here; they have ddukbokki, kimbap, tofu, pancakes, dolsotbops, bibimbaps, etc.. in the back. I've tried all of the ones I listed and they're all good! Also, they have a small bakery in the back which has this really good strawberry crumble cake, yum. They also have a lot of side dishes and marinated meats for sale.

Do NOT order catered food from this place!!!  I repeat, "DO NOT ORDER from these people!!!!"  Today was my son's dohl (1st Birthday) and we put in a $350 order of food.   We ordered about a month before the event and called the week before too.  We get there 1.5 hours before the party to pick up the food (where we expected about 65 guests) and they cancelled our order.  They had NO food for us.  To say I had a meltdown is an understatement.  These people are UNRELIABLE and it was difficult to make the order in the first place.  They didn't even take down our name.  I will never shop here and I highly recommend that no one else does either.

Holy Kim Chee!!!!!!! I am a half Kim Chee blooded Bruddah, and feel at home at this place. First and foremost, most asian grocery stores just stink and have bad hygiene. Not here! In fact, I would bet that Hankook Market is as clean or cleaner than any western style grocery store bar none!
If you love or crave Korean food, this is the spot! They even have a section that is like a buffet, where you can pick out your pre-meditated meats for BBQ, kim chee and an assortment of other Korean dishes. Take it all home and have a feast!!! The place is so clean, the staff is friendly, and if you get hungry while shopping, there is a place in the back that is kind of like a food court that serves delicious food for in or out eating!

So the Sweetie and I planned to have a beach picnic in the day and we definitely wanted to grill, but what did we grill?

    Black Pork Bellies!!!!

We were able to grab one package weighing in about almost 2 lbs. of great quality black pork bellies for $10 and less than a pound of spicy pork already marinated and ready to cook for like $3. Mind you if your ordered this at a restaurant you'd spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $40 let alone $60+ at Jang Su Jang.

They have all the other Korean goodies you'd need to prepare a feast here, the people working pretty much keep to themselves but I'm sure they are friendly enough to approach and ask for help.

They have a stand that sells prepared Korean sushi which is pretty cool but they have a $10 minimum if you use your visa or mastercard, so bring cash!

Anyways this place is great for all you bbq'ers out there that want to enjoy some kbbq for cheap and that you can grill yourself at home or at a bbq!

This is the best supermarket!!!! It is very CLEAN and always has great customer service. The produce and meats are always  fresh and the quality is excellent.

I love the marinated meat bar! They have the best shortribs, pork and marinated beef. The seasoning is just perfect. Hankcook has everything you need. This is by far the best asian supermarket around

Last weekend, I was in the mood for some KBBQ but instead of heading to Palace BBQ like we always do, I was in search of just buying the meat so we can just fire up the grill at home and trusty Yelp led us to Hankook.  What's ironic is that I knew there was a grocery store next to Palace BBQ but didn't realize it was Hankook!

When we walked in, I was super impressed.  It wasn't a huge mega grocery store, but it was like a mini-mini-mall, with a grocery store, cosmetic counter, electronics counter...selling iPhone4's no less, clothing retailer, food court, etc.  Not to mention, it was so clean and organized!  I wish all Asian supermarkets would be like Hankook!  When we got to the section where they had the marinated meats and such, wow, it was pretty much the same buffet setup as Palace BBQ next door, but with more stuff!  I like how they provide these nice, clear plastic boxes to pack each individual item in, rather than some cheapy plastic bag.  One thing that would've helped was a scale to weigh everything.

When we got to the cash register and rang everything up, we ended up getting Spicy Pork, Short Ribs and five different banchan all for $30.  Totally not bad at all, since that usually covers one person at Palace BBQ, not to mention, we still have to cook the meat ourselves. :D

When we fired up the grill later that night and sat down to dinner, the meat was quite really delicious.  Their Spicy Pork had to be one of the most flavorful and spicy, Spicy Pork I've ever had.  The sides were pretty good too and tasted fresh.

Hmm...now the next time we have a get together at home, I think it'll be KBBQ themed.  Thanks Hankook!!

Whenever I need any meat or sashimi, this place is my #1 choice.
Everything they sell seems to be very fresh all the time.

It feels good to shop without worrying about what I buy could be bad.
I hope this place keep it as it is now.

Good size market carrying everything you'd probably need from a Korean (not a general ethnic market) market.

    --CLEAN and organized

--Buffet of MARINATED meats and prepared korean sides.

--I've had to return a large container of prepackaged kimchi and I didn't run into any problems exchanging the item

--Great selection at the meat department

--They open 7 days a week, at 8am

I've never been to Korea before, but I would think this is how it would be like if I did.

I live less than 10 minutes away and never went inside until yesterday. Thanks to my boyfriend's discovery, I have a new place to buy Asian snacks. I would usually go to Marina Foods which can be dirty and smelly or Mitsuwa, which is a little expensive.

I fell in love with their selection of candy and snacks. Everything was fairly inexpensive. It was nice walkind down the alleys. Everything was so orderly and clean. I liked how their were all those pickled vegetables in the middle of the market. I wanted to get some but I had already ate. There was also a little bakery and other misc shops.

The whole store just completely blew me away.

Best purchase was my melon chewing gun that I always get when eating at Korean restaurants and never knew where to get them. I got a pack 6 sticks for 49 cents. Sweet deal!

    I shall be back!

First of all, I'm not Korean (or Asian for that matter) and can't comment on the dozens of varieties of kim-chi they have out in the open, because I've never had it in my life and don't know what to expect. I'm all about the fresh salmon because it's the BEST! I guess it's the kind they use for sushi because there's a packet of wasabi. It's pricey but oh so worth it. Recently, I went out of my comfort zone and bought red snapper, but stuck it in my freezer for future use. My family loves red snapper, but I'm not crazy about it. There's no way I'm going to buy salmon at Safeway or Trader Joe's anymore. Not fresh...yuk.

I love this store because it's spacious, organized, bright, very clean and the produce is very reasonable (like 89 cents for a huge bunch of perfect broccoli). I also get the enormous Fuji apples (I forgot the price); and get several mega packs of toasted seaweed for my kids, which are $2.99 for 12 pkgs. That's way better than 99 cents for ONE pkg. at Trader Joe's!!

Most Asian markets ROCK and this one does not disappoint!

Not good when your gallon of milk has an expiration date 2 weeks from now, you open it and there is a sour stench, your frozen potstickers (in sealed bag) have mildew spots, the butchered chicken in shrink wrap definitely is bad (beyond horrible smell when plastic was removed that same day), and the only things edible were from their marinated meat area.  Not thrilled with the kimchi either.  Man, this place needs some work...especially since their selection is so large.  If I return, IF, I will only get dry goods...
What a disappointing HUGE waste of money, and my husband swore by this place when he used to work in Sunnyvale.  DARNIT!
On the upside, it was clean and ventilated well, even by seafood area.

good place to shop for korean groceries
I come here once a month
and usually buy dried seaweeds, korean snacks, some vegetables, rice cakes...
    very clean
when you purchase over $100, you get free either (your choice) box of drinks, or mini packages of dried seaweeds
