Trendy baby stuff- but pretty unusual! They have some pretty cute kids stuff, ramones Ts for your toddler, dish sets, as well as rocking baby socks!
I happily purchased a knit monkey cap (with ears) for my nephew. I had to resist the small sit on riding cow, but I may be back for it. The selection of stuff is somewhat mod, eye catching, and a bit pricey. But if you are looking for a baby/toddler/kindergartener gift and have no real thoughts- drop in! You will find something!
Hanger 18 continues to be my #1 stop for gifts. Over the years, I've gotten to know Tina, the store owner from my repeat trips. She's fantastic and has done everything from discounting an Ugly Doll in her shop when she found out I was taking it to my husband in the hospital, to spend time helping me shop for my picky in-laws. What sets apart Hangar 18 from other gift shops is Tina's ability as a buyer. She just finds the GREATEST stuff and her prices are great too. Oh yeah, not to mention the music, she's always spinning something good like the Smiths or Joy Division. Next time you visit, say hi to Tina the rocking punk with the red hair and cat eye glasses and unload your gift woes on her, she'll make it work. I also highly recommend the baby goods in the shop, always a crowd pleaser. Every kid needs a Smiths shirt.
I like this place, I just wish they had more STUFF, because the stuff they have is just way cool.
Hangar 18 carries a nice selection of Yak-Paks. They have a variety of fabrics and sizes/shapes, including yoga mat bags. They also carry mid-priced jewelry ($16 - $48), Sigg water bottles and accessories, housewares, stationary, and children's gifts (think fancy baby shower). Hangar 18 would be a good place for a gift or special treat. They don't have anything you absolutely NEED, but the stuff is priced so that you might splurge once in awhile.
I find the employees to be a bit off-putting. No chitchat, even when I tried to engage them. I have been in this store at least five times and yet to meet a friendly employee.
Today, I almost bought a Lucite Virgin Mary dogtag.
Extremely helpful and engaging folks here, and lots of gifty fun.
Love it love it love it !!!!
I had bought so many gifts in this little cute shop and all of them were liked and are used so much by my friends.
I love their little plates and mugs, earrings, goodies for home and office, and the water bottles.
Every time I go here, the people at the register are so nice and sweet. I never walk out empty handed.
So, if you are looking for a gift for someone that is a newborn or your age this is definitely a place to check out.
Hanger 18 has everything you never knew you wanted. I asked about their return policy because I was buying a gift, and the sales person thoughtfully added colored tissue paper & a lovely ribbon while bagging my purchase. This is a great place if you need a fun gift, but have no idea what to get.
If you enjoy kid-themed merchandise, brightly coloured melamine plates and earrings made out of fabric or yarn, this is the place for you. I don't care much for it personally, and even the one or two times I saw a vintage-inspired apron or a cool handpainted tile, it always seemed really overpriced to me.
Interesting to browse through, though.
Want to make your baby a punk with a mohawk and tattoos? They got all the fixings from skulls on their booties and onesies reminiscent of your concert tees from the 70s ad 80s of the Ramones and the Smiths. I think there was even a James Brown onesie.
You can even keep him snug in a baby bjorn with tattoos on it. HARDCORE!
Just don't be surprised if he rebels into a preppy in his teenage years with a tweed jacket and all.
This spot is awesome for fun random gifts that people will love.
They have a wide range of items. Things for your candle-loving cousin, napkin-saving nonna, tchachki-toting team mates, and sporty sister.
I bought the madre some chicago memorabilia here for the cumpleaños recently.
Hangar 18 used to be primarily a clothing store -- thus the name. Now it's a little-bit-of-everything store. There are still some kids' clothes there, but there are also purses and jewelry, cards and candles, some books, some housewares, some toys. A little bit of everything. What ties it all together is a kind of alt-art theme. It's all very splashy and fun, and enough of the products come from local artists and manufacturers to make you feel god about your purchases. Best of all, the staff is very friendly and helpful. I went in looking for something for my 14 year old niece. For me, this is like buying something for a Martian. But with some direction, I came away with something that I think has a 70% chance of pleasing her. Which is much better than I would have done on my own.
It seems that, in a three month period last year, Giddings plaza became overrun with storefronts that all sold approximately the same things. Unfortunately, Hanger 18 moved from its Roscoe Village location right in the middle of it, and could easily be overlooked.
Very cool business owned and operated by incredibly cool people. Go for the jewelry, stay for the eccentric mix of delights! It's different every time.
Great gift-y items like hipster jewelry, sunglasses and what may be the CUTEST baby gear this direction of Psychobaby!
I have purchased some baby tees, onesies and socks here that are the envy of my sister's southern small-town nieghbors. One day, she'll auction them off in a pandemonious blowout garage-sale (while wearing the Posh-spice style aviators and the scarf headband I bought for her from here).
Among the unique must-haves for myself the rainbow "tower" of espresso mugs, complete with stainless-steel caddy makes me smile every morning! I should mention that my dog is a welcome "shopper" here- and she loves the buscuits behind the counter!
This is the best spot in Lincoln Square to buy birthday gifts for others, and some jewelry for me. I love that they carry Hotcakes Designs--a spin off of old Bakelite jewelry.
Very cute store with some very cute stationery, most of the items seem very overpriced. Their sales/clearance rack has a handful of knick knacks but nothing pretty or eye-catching in worth in buying. Friendly people that do not hound you while you sift through their things, this is a cute store to stop by when you're wandering around in Lincoln Square.
Gifty shop with personal and home accessories -- fused glass jewelry, embroidered vinyl wallets, recycled plastic dishware, a wealth of buttons (including political) at the front counter. Help was rather laconic when we first arrived. Since we'd just come from the superlative Eclecticity, this place seemed a little lacking by comparison, frankly. I did get an Obama pin and a Pacifica candle, though, so all was not lost, and when I was making my actual purchase the clerk perked up, so the instinct for customer service is lurking in there somewhere (perhaps when the money comes out).
Very cool spot in Lincoln Square. It is your typical hip store with novelty, clothing, prints and kitchen goods.
The draws to this place are: punk rock t-shirts/onesies for babies (David Bowie, The Clash, The Ramones, et al), Rock-A-Bye-Baby lullaby CDs in the style of NIN, The Ramones, Led Zeppelin, etc., Queen Bee Bags (as seen on http://buyolympia.com, Pacifica Candles and Snow & Graham Candles.
This is a great place to get a gift. Some things are definitely a bit marked up but it is understandable considering the location and what competitors charge.
Funky little store. A lot of cute, cute baby stuff. The Clash onesies
come on! Also jewerly, stationary, coasters..etc The staff is friendly but not overly friendly/helpful. The prices are decent none of those $50 baby shirts (you know who you are) that are going to be spit up on and worn only once or twice. Next time in Lincoln Square check it out..P.S. the little one said buy her one of the french stuffed animals in the rear of store.
When I'm in need of a cute gift I always head to Lincoln Square. So, I was delighted to find Hanger 18 a few months ago on an excursion to find an unusual baby gift. I found it and more! This store is full of out of the ordinary items at a very fair price!
I have bought the "brand new" and "chicago baby" onesies for many pregnant friends.
This is a MUST SEE store!
Who am I to disagree? Hanger 18 is a very cool place run by lovely people who seem involved in the community in ways other than the strictly commercial, and that's a good sign.
Quite apart from that, they carry an eclectic mix of items from handmade shopping totes to kitschy cookbooks that suggest 101 Things to do with Canned Soup. Their baby/kids selection is excellent; a little too large for my taste, but then I'm not a parent. Considering how many rugrats I saw on the street this weekend, the mix is probably about right, though. And even an old grouch like me can be charmed by child-size Ramones tees and Clash onesies.
I snagged a drinking top for my Sigg water bottle, and thought briefly about adding at least one more to the collection, but restrained myself. And I came thisclose to buying an amazing handmade purse. The prices are all about right for the sort of merchandise they carry and the neighborhood they're in, so no worries about getting ripped off by an upscale boutique with more flash than substance. Hanger 18 is the real deal.
Go. You're sure to find something you like.
I can't believe I haven't rated Hanger 18 yet... I seem to come here all the time! This shop has so many cute gift ideas. They have different purses, such as one of my fave brands--Queen Bee Creations; Super cute jewelry, great baby gift ideas; and of course, the lovable Ugly Dolls. I love coming into this shop to see all the new items!
When I'm walking around the area, I can never resist popping into Hanger 18 to see what new items they have, or to pine over things that I've had my eye on for a while (life those really cute aprons). They carry a good variety of purses, bags, jewelry, kitchenware, and other kitschy things. My favorite part is that they carry Queen Bee products. I've gotten some really cute necklaces and earrings there too. Prices aren't too bad, considering what they have for sale. Plus, they have some of the coolest baby clothes around. Go there, you won't be disappointed!
I was pleasantly surprised on a recent shopping trip in Lincoln Square to find Hanger 18. I love their eclectic selection of candles, perfumes, kitchy plates and kitchen items, rock and roll baby onesies. This is the perfect place to check out for birthday presents. I bought some cool stationary, perfume and US state pins for all of my roommates(Texas, Minnesota and Georgia). Check it out. It is also close to Mertz Apothecary which is a sweet spot for lotions and soaps.
I bought my Sigg waterbottle there, and it's awesome. They have awesome baby stuff there, and awesome other stuff too. But lots of stores have awesome things. What makes this an actually awesome store? Oh, wait for the cliche... it's coming... almost there... oh yes. The people make it an awesome store. I know it's lame and, yes, completely cliched (how many reviews do you read that say the people make the place great?), but in this case, it's true. I've bought a goodly number of pins there, all of which were stored in these big bowls, full to almost the top with other pins. The woman who works there (I think she owns it, actually, but I'm not sure) helped me go through 3 bowls of pins to find the perfect little thing for one of my friends - a cockroach pin. Don't ask. Just know that this is a place that has gifts for everyone. Even people that would appreciate a cockroach pin.
adorable gifts. so adorable you will inevitably get one gift for you and one for someone else.
great bags, jewelry, and housewares that are not mass produced.
This is a little jewel in Lincoln Square!!!! Great gifts. Awesome jewelry, especially rings, which are my personal obsession. They also have total rockstar baby and small children's gifts. The people are always to awesome and friendly and their selection is right on the money!!!
I suppose if you've got kids, this might just merit an extra star. I don't, so, it doesn't. But that's me. This is an A-OK store with some cute stuff, but it doesn't rock my world.
i guess it's pretty unanimous... hanger 18 is the best! i went in here for the first time yesterday to take a look and ended up buying a stationery set and a wallet. i also got a pair of beautiful earrings.
this place is stocked full of unique gifts for others as well as for yourself. they sell those pop pink plates i've seen on the internet forever and other goodies that i've always wanted but never purchased because of shipping costs.
they have lots of things you didn't even know you wanted!
the people here are very helpful and friendly.
This is probably my favorite place in Lincoln Square. They have the CUTEST stuff. There's great home decor, women's clothing, jewelry, and bags, Sigg water bottles (my favorite water bottle ever!), fun cards & paper stuff. Hanger 18 is a good place to go for a pick-me-up gift for yourself or a birthday present for a friend. And then there's the baby stuff. I do not have a baby, I have no family members with babies, and I have relatively few friends w/ babies. BUT... the stuff in here is so adorable and UNIQUE that it makes me want to buy it all in anticipation of the day when either I or someone I love has a baby. No standard pink onesies w/ cute baby animals (let's be honest, I ooh and aah over that stuff too sometimes)... but instead imagine tiny baby Vans-type shoes w/ skulls, little hoodies with adorable retro-looking parading elephants, or a onesie featuring your favorite rock band. Overall, I just love love love this store and cannot walk by without going in.
super cute! decent prices. great place to buy a last minute gift.
I find something here each time I come in for a gift (and then IU buy myself something awesome for $8 and feel giddy about it for DAYS.) Love this store. Great kitchenware, jewelry, papergoods, etc.
