I'm neutral on hipsters but big on Wes... Wes is the guy who owns the joint! He is awesome, recently got a haircut, and runs a great bar.

The bar is small but patience is a virtue. When a bar is sooo packed it's hard to walk, do you really expect to be the bartenders ONLY customer? People who get pissed when they have to wait a few for a drink kinda suck... don't you think?

What is so great about this bar is that when it's dead, it's fun. It goes without saying that when the dance party is hopping and the dj rocks, the place is a blast. But, I swear, if you walk into this place and there is no one but you and your friends, you're ganna have a good time. Just spark up a conversation with one of the bartenders or Wes.

The big leather sofas and tables and chairs, along with all the bar stools mean there is always somewhere to sit. Many nights, there is plenty seating because everyone is dancing!

Coming from Miami where everyone goes to a bar to dance, to Savannah where most people never get up from their tables, this bar can be a breath of fresh air when you just want to go out and bounce around.

Just remember that if you aren't up for a night of hanging with the hipsters... steer clear.

Wow.  It's a little pocket of Brooklyn in Savannah.  The city has sorely, sorely needed this.

Low-brow beers (they have Mickey's!), decent liquor selection, great music played through an eMac, funky decor (including affordable art for sale), and friendly barstaff:  what's not to love?  If this place had been around when I was younger, I might've seriously considered applying to Savannah-area schools.  It's the type of nightspot worth figuring into your long-range life plans.  As it is, it's a strong argument for flying through Savannah rather than Atlanta the next time that I'm headed to Georgia just so that I get a chance to swing by.

Yes, I don't know why, but I have never been disappointed, and I often was in the early days, without feeling at the same time, or a moment later, an undeniable relief.

Nothing to be done.

This bar wasn't around when I was doing my undergrad in Savannah.  I stopped in here while I was on a little reunion back in Savannah with some college friends.  It used to be the Whitaker Street Saloon (which may have been the sketchiest strip club in America).

It's got a great atmosphere, and even pays a little tribute to the old establishment in it's decorations.  It's a younger crowd, so in about 3 or 4 years, I'll start feeling a little out of place going there.  But for college kids, it's really a convenient social spot.

Read the great reviews here and checked it out. Walked in ordered a PBR, ice cold. Bartender asked me what time it was, told him 10 til 9. He said for a another dollar I can you another PBR. I said no I'm good I don't need two 24oz beers in my hand, he said i'll keep it back here till your ready. $4.50 for 48oz of PBR!
I asked if Wes was around and he is as nice as the other reviews said. BS'd with him, told I was traveling the country in my RV, did some shots, and he invited me to go to another bar around the corner to see a buddy of his play some blues. Yeah, he took me out of his bar and bought me drinks at another. Hung out there did some shots, introduced to some of his other friends, and went back to his bar again. I had a blast, he's a great guy, I highly recommend.

This place is pretty dang awesome, but I have heard word from friends still in the area that they ahve stopped serving PBR. This is a travesty and for that, they loose a star.

Otherwise, it is a great palce to go hang out if you want to pretend you are 22 again, because that is probably the median age of people in this bar. I have had many a drunken nights here and the music is great, the atmosphere is great and the bartenders are also great. Trivia night and Kareoke night are pretty sweet. It's a good place if you want to throw back a few beers and chill with your friends. A big plus is that Sweet Melissa's AND Sushi Zen are on either side, so if you've got the drunk munchies and don't want to buy overpriced food here, at hangfire, you can just pop by next door and get yourself some food.

A cool little bar that fills up later with a diverse, friendly crowd.

I showed up on Saturday night a little early, around eleven.  Things got started when the DJ started playing around midnight.  PBR tall boys for $3 kept the younger crowd dancing until the lights came on.  Service was friendly and fast.  Would recommend.  (as if five stars wasn't enough of a recommendation).

Also, there are a number of late-night eat shops within a block.

My boyfriend & I visited this place on our trip to Savannah.  It was actually pretty cool.  Loud music, good movies on the tv, a slideshow, and a very friendly bartender.  We even walked in on a night where there was free pizza which was neat.  We even saw a puppy hanging out inside.  My only problem with the place is that people can smoke inside & this place is so small that it's not pleasant.   But overall, a good place to grab a beer.

Torn between Rail Pub and Hang Fire as my favorite bar in Savannah. Just depends on the night. Good bar with good music and good people. Tourists tend to stay clear and that is refreshing for a downtown bar. Probably because they haven't made up a ghost story like the bar across the street.

Hang Fire is definitely one of the best bars in Savannah.

I have said before that you can judge a bar by some simple characteristics.Good music?Easy to get a drink?Easy to use the bathroom?Decent crowd? For the most part this bar succeeds in those categories.

They have a decent jukebox because its an internet jukebox that has been disconnected so assholes cant put in 20 bucks to play Jimmy Buffett for three hours.(have a little respect for the other patrons fucktard) They occasionally have djs which sucks for a bar of that size, but i think they got noise complaints so they stopped that.Thank god. That bar was way too small for that decibel level of music.

The bathrooms are easily accessible. The bar staff is great.Wes, the owner is usually there and friendly. The rest of the bartenders are fairly friendly and get your drinks quickly.

The crowd is diverse although lately some frat boy types have started hanging out there.

Oh and the trivia night with Rob is always a blast.

I will always miss this bar.I have many good and bad memories from this bar.

Seriously, the dirtiest, sleaziest army bar in Savannah. The service is rude, the atmosphere is smokey and smells like a bunch of farts got into a fight.

I have personally witnessed the bouncer Dakota punch a 120lb girl in the face and get away with it.

Seriously, avoid this shit hole at all costs. Go to Jynx or Venus de Milo if you want some fun.

I can spend way too much time here. Good music playing, good cheap drinks and always a good movie on the TV. The bartenders are some of the best in town (Wes is truly the best) though sometimes the post-10pm crowd gets rather annoying. All-in-all, my favorite bar in town.

Stumbled across this bar on my 4th visit to Savannah almost a year ago, and was happy to finally find a really cool bar that was right up my alley.

It was a smaller bar with a good mix of young people, with a lot of hipsters.  There were various DJs spinning for a while until suddenly a group started rapping reggae-style.  Everyone got in a big circle, all races and types, and just started dancing and moving.  One guy got out of his suit and started breakdancing, which made the rappers improvise and make some jokes about him.  It was really, really cool.

So was disturbing the hippie guy with the 'fro who worked at the pizza slice place next door.  He was sitting on a stool and teaching himself to play guitar to pass the time between customers :).

best. bar. ever.
used to be a dirty, dingy, dirty dinge-hole of strippers. now, it's gleaming with hand crafted woodwork (wes, the owner, a magician of sorts) and gleaming teeth of smiling, goofy, sexy staff. BIG OL PBRs. stiff dranks. alwaaaaays good music. sometimes there will be nights where all the boys will be taking their shirts off and dancing and all of the girls will be laughing on the outside but really crying on the inside because they don't know if the shirtless dancing is directly related to potential homosexuality. in reality, it's just the kind of place where you do whatever the fuck you wanna do. get up on the chairs, wear a diaper to the bar, make out with ugly people, make out with hot people, but don't get in a fight or cry or sit and pout because you're only obviously just not opening your eyes to the big picture - that you're in the only rad bar in Savannah and that if you come often enough, you will fall in love and want to sit there all day and all night. ---highly recommended:  trivia tuesdays and karoake wednesdays. ----
