I have had great experiences here, I've had the gamut of cat issues from elderly and cranky, epileptic, UTI's and a few other things in between. Dr. W. and his staff are patient and will talk "with" you about your pet rather than at you. they are there for you and your pets not to make a dollar.
thanks guys! -

We've now been taking my dog, Maple, to Hancock for 3 years, and we still love it. They are always so friendly and efficient. Maple loves them all and is very calm and comfortable, even when being probed or getting a shot. Dr. Wember is really wonderful. I highly recommend Hancock Animal Hospital.

Review from Emily D.
I decided to write my 200th review on Hancock Animal Hospital.
Teddy, our family pekingese has been coming to this vet for his checkups and shots for the past 3 years.
This past week, after a little scare with him, we brought him urgently. Even though he didn't have an appointment and they were booked all day - they squeezed him in as early as possible. Any other vet would've charged us an emergency visit fee but they took him in as a regular appointment. *phew*
Teddy is a feisty little peke and really doesn't like to be touched in his private areas, if you know what I mean. But they were gentle with him and did everything possible to make him comfortable.
We ended up returning him today and Dr. Weber was more than happy to fit him in between his appointments. Teddy had an anal gland that ruptured and needed to be treated with antibiotics immediately.
Thank you so much Hancock Animal hospital for taking good care of my Teddy.Listed in: Quincy, my neck of the woods.

I am very lucky to have Hancock Animal Hospital for my pet's care. Drs. Wembler and Wells were very nice and dealt calmly with my crazy cat lady tendencies. I am a new pet owner of a cat with a lot of medical issues so I have called them far more times than I probably should. Despite my probable annoyingness, they have been nothing but kind and always call me back soon after I call. My cat is what you might call "difficult" and the staff never gets frustrated or angry at her. Dr. Wembler and the vet techs are nothing but fantastic and I am glad I live nearby in Quincy so I can continue my cat's care here.

THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been taking my dog there for the past year, and Dr. Wember and his staff are genuinely caring people!! It is obvious that they love what they do and are concerned about their patients.
Last night my dog fell and hit his head, and without even thinking about the time, I rushed him over. When I got there they had already closed, but agreed to see him anyway. I know what it is like to just want to go home at the end of a long day, and they could have easily sent me on my way to the emergency hospital. Instead, they stayed late and took the time to make sure my dog was ok and ease my mind. I am so very grateful for the kindness they showed me and my dog! AND they already called today to check in on him. They are amazing!!
I completely trust my dog in the care of Dr. Wember and his staff, and HIGHLY recommend Hancock Animal Hospital!! -

After a borderline traumatic experience at another clinic, I came here based on reviews and conversations with the receptionist (all of which are AWESOME).
My dog had heartworms. I was beginning the intensive treatment with much nervousness and hesitation. Dr. Webner took time and really set my fears at ease.
The staff repeatedly were incredibly accommodating and friendly.
My dog got through the treatment with flying colors and though it set me back $600, I know that Dr. Webner priced the procedures fairly.
I'll drive to Quincy any day for him. He's a wonderful vet! -

I highly recommend Hancock Animal Hospital. Dr. Wember is the best vet I have encountered. One of my cats has had numerous health problems and I spent large sums of money at other vet facilities trying to resolve them before going to Hancock Animal Hospital on the advice of a friend. I am so grateful that my cat has been able to thrive under Dr. Wember's care. Dr. Wember's superior care is also more affordable than any other I have sought. He and his staff are highly competent, kind and compassionate.

Great vet! Having recently heard a story from a friend about a vet frightening them and trying to rip them off, i was inpsired to review this practice. I've been bringing my dog here for several years, and they are wonderful and caring. he is VERY fearful, and they do everything they can to make it easier on him.
a few years back he had an incident where he was attacked pretty badly. they patched him up quickly for me, and on top of being concerned about his injuries, they were nice enough to ask if I was ok, and if i wanted to sit down and have some water!
the reception staff and assistants are always so friendly and helpful!
they have never tried to upsell or push unecessary treatments on me. as long as i live in the area, i'll continue bringing my pets to Dr. Wembler. it's nice to have a vet you can trust! -
Review from Kelly M.
I recently got the cutest puppy in the entire world (not just an opinion but a fact) and didn't know where to take him for all of his vaccines, etc. i checked out reviews on yelp and decided that with all of the great praise for Dr. Webner and his staff I would give it a try. Well after making my appointment I found out that not only my boyfriends mother but also my neighbors both choose to bring their dogs to Dr. Webner and echoed their sentiments for Dr. Webner just like everyone on yelp did. I met the other vet Suzanne when I went for Hugo's (the cutest puppy in the world) first visit. She was very friendly and the staff in the office with her and also at the desk was so very friendly.
My dog had a reaction to his first vaccine before I got him so I was very nervous that it would happen again. Dr. Webner personally called me to tell me exactly what to do before bringing him in for his vaccination (steroids and anti inflammatory) and someone at the desk called me the next day just to check up that I had no questions (I hadn't even gone to the vet yet). After his vaccination I got nervous so I came in right away. Even though Dr. Webner was in surgery, they took Hugo for me and kept him so I could go back to work for no extra charge.
The prices are high but from what I hear from other people they are comparable or cheaper than other vets in the area (this would be my first dog). They even have a coupon on their website for your first visit.
I will go to Dr. Webner as long as I live in the area and really can't say enough good things about him and his staff. -

I only brought my dog here once because i needed to get some shots right before kenneling (next door at Brian's). The folks there were pretty good. They were able to answer my questions and surprisingly, unlike many vets i've been to, do not seem like they're looking to screw me over. very caring and great people. would go back again if this place were closer to my house. good hours too. i know someone else that had a bad experience here very different from mine, so buyer beware. personally, i had a good experience.

This is a wonderful place to bring your pet. All the staff are very caring. Dr. Wember is excellent. As stated by others, the prices are very reasonable. I am fanatic about my animals and trust Hancock 100%. Definitely not VCA, LOL (I hate VCA/at least Angell out front lets you know you're going to be spending mucho dinero!).

Dr. Wember has been Kitty's vet for a couple of years. We moved to Brookline, but we still travel to Quincy to Hancock Animal Hospital. Kitty is used to them and they take good care of her. They are always very gentle. Dr. Wember can be trusted, he is very thorough and caring. He always calls me back if I have any questions and the staff knows my name and remembers Kitty every time I call for an appointment or to refil a prescription. They are very nice, caring and helpful. We cannot always afford all the tests they recommend, though, so make sure you just ask how much things will cost if you are on a budget. We greatly appreciate HAH and highly recommend them!

I'm a little torn about how to rate this practice. In the grand scheme of vet practices, Hancock does a good job. They are compassionate toward animals and have what I believe to be very fair prices. My personal experience did not live up to expectations, but I think you will be in good hands with this practice.
We adopted our dog from a shelter and brought him in for a check-up. We were told he was underweight and needed to bulk up, then he got a quick exam and the appropriate shots. I asked if the dog should have a lepto vaccine, which is typically given to dogs that have exposure to woodsy areas and areas with a lot of standing water. Instead of really talking me through the decision, I was told, "oh, okay, we'll do that, too" and before I knew it, the dog had received the shot.
Another example is when we came in for a second round of shots and I mentioned the dog was itching like CRAZY and suggested perhaps the patchy spots on his belly could be fleas. "Yes, your dog has fleas, let's do something about it" I was told, and then the dog was immediately given flea/tick meds. He'd been ON flea meds (the same meds) and had just had an application a few days earlier--I was pretty annoyed that it was applied without asking. I was more annoyed that at our initial visit just a few weeks earlier, there was no mention of his fleas. Or his kennel cough. Our dog was hacking up a lung (remember, we got him from a shelter), and it was never mentioned to us that the little guy had kennel cough. Again, no lives were In jeopardy..but I was a little annoyed that I had to find out from calling the shelter where they had a note in his chart that he had kennel cough upon adoption.
Finally, and this is what made us find a new vet, our dog had worms in his stool. Visible worms. They were moving. They were white. They were worms. It took me 10 seconds on Google to figure out that he had tapeworms (which you get from fleas), so I called the vet asking for a rx or other meds for the worms. They wanted to do a fecal ($). I brought in a fecal sample, and it came back clean. Except that I know my dog had worms--I saw them! Apparently tapeworms don't show up in fecal exams. So I was out the $ for the fecal exam, which was totally pointless to begin with. On top of all this, they are terrible about calling me back. Then again, my dog has never had serious problems--I would imagine he always falls to the bottom because there are emergencies--and I would expect the same if my dog were in need of urgent attention. It just happens all the time.
All of these are small in comparison to the problems that most owners have with vets. Our new vet spent 40 minutes with us learning about our dog, talking about ways to help him gain even more weight, and suggesting some behavioral training (they do not offer the service, so it wasn't an up-sell!). Nobody at Hancock ever mentioned that some of our dogs problems could get worse over time and we never received any info about training.
So, in general, I would say you'd be fine with this practice. It just wasn't for us. -

Decided to listen to everyone's high praise of Dr. Wember.
I'm glad I did because this is my first visit to a Vet's office for my new cat. Everything went great and he was very gentle with my cat.
Big recommendation for Hancock Animal Hospital! :) -

Had to bring my poor sneezy cat in for a check up but nothing about getting her there was easy... she was scared, I was rushing bc I was running late from work but the staff at HAH was so good to deal with. I called on my way home and scheduled a very last minute appointment so poor Lexi wouldn't have to wait another day. They accomodated me immediately, which saved me a lot of money too bc I didn't have to take her to the ER instead. Vet and nurses were wonderful! Great experience at HAH. I will be taking Lexi there again!

After the abuse my bank account took at VCA (I'll save that review for another day) my wife and I decided to try Hancock Animal Hospital. We took our cat there to be spayed and were amazed at the personal attention of the entire staff. They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Wember is a fantastic doctor and extremely caring. He called us the day after my cat's surgery just to see how she was doing and if we had any questions. We then took our 2 dogs there for a checkup and shots as well as a medical issue with 1 of them. They were able to book a double appointment that was convenient for us and were fantastic with both dogs We did make Rob (the vet tech) earn his pay that day by holding my 80 lb dog still so he could get his vaccines and he then chased my other dog around with a ladle to get a urine sample from her. I would tell anybody looking for a vet for a new pet or looking to change from maybe some impersonal, overcharging vet, to call Hancock. They are completely reasonable in price (compared to other vets i have been to, I wonder how Hancock stays in business). The staff is great and the Dr.'s are fantastic. Give them a shot; you will not regret it.

I was so lucky to stumble upon Hancock Animal Hospital when I got my kitten a year ago. Dr. Wember is kind and patient with all my questions. He is very up to date with the latest health info. When my cat's food was recalled, they got us in right away and took great care of him. Every staff member goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. They are all very knowledgeable and incredibly sweet to the animals. I recently moved to Boston from Quincy, but wouldn't dream of changing vets!
