Hana DVD is hands down the best DVD store in the bay.  The owner treats the customers so well and is always helpful with selections.

If you love DVDs and asian movies, this is a spot you must hit.  They have a pretty good selection of Korean, American and English selection...

I've even seen golfer Michelle Wie here!

So after seeing this place from the outside everytime I visit, Petco, 99 Chicken and that sushi place in the corner, I finally came in. Oh these are all places that I'd like to boast as walking distance from the house. Isn't it nice to live in an area where lots of good food sorrounds you?

Alright i'll admit I did enjoy My Sassy Girl but I've always said it was "aiite" just to keep my manhood. So after basing all movies to be like that I said why not give it a try, you might like it.

I walked in and it was like an ordinary Mom and Pop video store with the asian atmosphere. So I immediately introduced myself to the lady behind the counter and just said hello. Wel it actually turned out to be a lengthy convo as we bagan talking about how I saw them on the newspaper.

Some facts: $4 movie rentals, and $3 season TV shows per disc. They are pretty lacks when it comes to returning it and the application process is pretty simple. They also sell their movies so its pretty cool.

So overall I came out with a movie to rent and it was pretty tight as long as you'rein the mood to read subtitles. So the next time you can't find a movie that you like at Blockbuster give Hana DVD a try. Thye've got friendly owners and a vast selection of movies english movies.

I've been a regular costumer at Hana DVD for a long time.  I like how the owners treats their customers like their good friend and they really make an effort of knowing their clients names.

I've been to other Korean video stores but Hana DVD is by far the best in terms of customer service and helping me find the video that I need to add to my collection.  Going to Hana DVD  has become an obsession and I just HAVE to go there at least once a month.

Besides, the owner Jimmy, is really easy to talk to and he doesn't mind chit chatting with me about my favorite korean celeb... Yoon Eun Hye.

I personally think Hana DVD is a gem to those who love Korean dramas, which is why I suggest to any Korean drama fanatics  to visit their store.  Trust me, it's the BEST!

RJR - ISSUE #29

For years I've been an avid collector of Korean, Japanese, and HK movies.

And of course,  I like to collect the original DVDs - no copies or vcd for me please.  And the Korean titles have been some of my favorites like My Sassy Girl, Attack the Gas Station, Friend, Kick the Moon, and many more.

And you know, sometmes I think I more Korean that my Korean friend Ed H. - especially since he borrows alot of my Korean movies and I tell him what new.   Most of the time, I'll by the latest titles on line.

But when I want to walk off some food after eating over at 99 Chicken  (which is several stores down) I'll stop by this place and spend some time checking out titles.

The owners are very friendly and helpful...featuring Korean,, and some Japanese & HK's titles to buy and to rent.  Sometimes as I'm scanning down the aisles, I'll find a gem or two that i'll consider buying.

Although I think their retail prices are a bit more expensive than buying them on line - Yet, I cut down on the shipping time and cost.  So it sort of weights the same of getting it jonnie on the spot.

But still it's nice to have a place that is close by where you can physically  pick thru for DVD imports.

*TAKE NOTE*

- Unless you know the titles you are looking for.    Don't buy it on the spot, because lately, I notice the Korean movies these days are hits and misses.
- Just right down the title - and review them online first - Using the following sites:

It could save you a lot of money, if its turns out to be something you are not expecting.

This is my first visit after so long. I walked in and it was a little crowded and all I saw were comics. I knew then I was in the wrong place.

Little did I know, the store has moved 6 months ago. Just walk around the same plaza close to Petco and 99 Chicken, you'll see their new location.

The store is much bigger now. The staff is as friendly as ever. But what I noticed is that they no longer have a wide selection of "for sale" stuff. The rental section is just as wide but I'm not sure how they are organized. I can't read Korean but I know the rental DVDs are not  arranged on the shelves in any scheme. It's a mess - I see a title in one shelf and 3 shelves down I'll see the same title. :(

Very helpful, friendly service.  The owner will even help you find a Korean drama/movie if you tell him what you like.  Although, for me, I didn't like his suggestions.  They don't have everything, especially the newly released dramas that are a hit in Korea right now, but you can definitely find something you'll like.  They also have American movies subtitled in Korean.  And yes, double check the region codes that your DVD will play.

Located in Santa Clara, it's probably the most English friendly place in if you have any questions about Korean movies or drama. They have  a great selection of Korean movies and drama, but the only bad thing is they have some region code 3 movies that might not play on your DVD player. All in all, a great place to rent/buy Korean media.
