2 reviews for Hampton Inn Hotel
During a recent stay in Milwaukee, we chose this location instead of the downtown location to save money and be closer to the airport. We were not sure what to expect, being 8 miles from downtown and so close to the airport, but everything turned out great!
For just $99/night (weekend rate, plus taxes and fees), we got a second-floor room (we dislike the ground floor) with two queen beds, a flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, wireless Internet access, and some fairly typical hotel furniture. In the bathroom, highlights included granite countertops, a 3-way mirror, a sleek stainless steel faucet, and an exhaust fan. A warm tray of cookies was sitting by the front desk when we returned from dinner, and coffee is available 24 hours per day -- the "robusto" isn't half bad!
Our room had a decent view of planes landing at General Mitchell International Airport, but noise was not a problem for us. We did not use the pool, exercise room, or "business center" during our stay, but it was nice to know they were available. The continental breakfast was pretty ho-hum, but I managed to score a tasty glazed cake doughnut, a 6-ounce cup of yoghurt, and some cereal, plus more of the "robusto" coffee I had had the night before.
A physical Internet connection would have been nice, in addition to or in place of the wireless connection, but we got by with wireless. We had to drive several miles to find a good dinner spot, but it was expected. And the airport location paid off in the morning, when we had no trouble getting to the airport, thanks to the printed directions from the front desk staff. Good amenities and great service all around!
Standard set up good for business travel for around $150 a night that includes free wireless internet with decent speed, delivered newspaper, and simple breakfast.
Pluses: Clean linens with room furnishings in good shape, plenty of free parking, convenient to airport and main freeways. A/C cools room, iron and board work well, housekeeping is on the ball, crispy apples and cookies to snack on. Good business center with two computers to access. Very attentive front desk and staff. Pool and exercise room seemed in good shape.
Not so great: Too close to the main drag that can be noisy with trucks and cars zipping by late into the night. Breakfast selection pretty limited with cereals, yogurt and soggy canned fruit salad, donuts or sausage patty and biscuit but no eggs! Beware the mutant french toast strips-kind of a pale yellow, greasy rectangular blob of flour. Lemon-yellow oranges, and no bananas. Noisy refrigerator.
Good for business travel, but limited appeal if you are looking for interesting things to see and do in the local area with your family (unless you enjoy visiting auto dealerships, strip malls, and fast food.)
