I'm torn.  While I can totally relate to the experiences as told by the beautiful Lisa C, I love the location of the hotel.

Yes, the rooms are $160 a night, but it's much more palatable when you're company is footing the bill.  I even cashed in a Hilton Honors free day to enjoy one more night on the town.

The front desk staff were all male, and weren't overtly friendly, except the one who reminded me of Steve Buscemi (for one reason or another).

The room did smell kind of funny when I walked in.  I thought it was either urine or nicotine... so I walked around in my stocking feet, and then checked the soles of my socks for yellow marks.  Passed inspection.  The front desk did call about 10 minutes after I checked in, to see if I had any issues with the room.

I was on the 3rd floor, and had a balcony.  I could even see the ocean in the distance.  More importantly, I could overlook my rental car.  The parking spaces are pretty cramped.

The workout facility was bare essentials, containing a treadmill, an elliptical and a bike.  Adjusting the seat of the cycle machine was difficult at best.  There is no pool or jacuzzi on premises, but it is less than a mile's walk to the beach.

There is a Wells Fargo bank, an El Pollo Loco, a Pick Up Stix, a CVS and a VONS grocery right across PCH.  There is also a Ralph's grocery just to the south.

What else do you get?  Free breakfast, Free WiFi in the lobby, and Free wired internet in your room.

We rolled into the Hampton Inn at around 11pm desperate for a room after our car broke down stranding us in Hermosa Beach. You know - it's 11pm; you still have available rooms - does the $160 room fee seem rational to you? I turned on my charm, batted my eyes a bit, and played the sympathy card but the fellow behind the counter was a veritable rock of Gibraltar: $160 is the rate for the evening and neither hell nor high water nor a cute blonde who's clearly exhausted and just this side of irrational will break his resolve.

So we checked into a decent room with a large comfortable bed, free breakfast in the morning and clean sheets - really all that is required of a hotel room when you are stuck 2 hours from home and just want to lie down and have a good cry at the whims of the gods. I dock a start for the desk clerk's lame reference to the "Jim Kimmel Show" and his cold, cold heart, and a star for my room's residual cigarette smell lingering on after the mandartory non smoking hotel policy was put in place in California.
