We were visiting the snow and needed a place to stay.  All of the South Lake Tahoe hotels were booked (or, at least, they had 1-star motels going for $399+/nt.)

We looked east to nearby Reno.  Our previous hotel experience in Reno hasn't been pleasant.  It usually equated to smoke-filled hotels (in the casino, in the elevator, in the hallways and in the designated non-smoking rooms) that were noisy and had paper-thin walls.  So we tried to find a reputable brand outside of the main Downtown Reno area, and one that didn't have an attached casino (these are hard to find!)

For a clean, economy, chain hotel, you look for the business-focused hotels.  That results in either Marriott's Fairfield Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Four Points by Sheraton or Hilton's Hampton Inn.  So, that's what we found.

The hotel is very new, just opening sometime in 2007.  It's in a new business complex just off of US-395, and over by a new master-planned development in South Reno, called Damonte ranch.   Location is great, just 15 minutes from downtown reno, and another 20-30 minutes from Virginia City and Carson City.

It's convenient to lots of chain restaurants and businesses (think of any big box store or chain restaurant, and it's along the US-395 corridor.  Two minutes away is Smith's Food and Drug, a chain grocery store, Starbucks and other places.

The entire hotel is non-smoking, so it's a breath of fresh air (no pun intended) from the majority of hotels in Nevada.

We initially paid for a king suite with whirlpool tub.  Unfortunately, after check in, we were placed in the room located above the first-floor pool.  The kids' screaming and yelling echoed in the room.  All of the other suites were already occupied, so we got a regular king room, for a discounted "inconvenience" rate of $90.  Not bad, given their $129 regular rate for that room.

The new room was exceptionally clean and quite spacious.  It had a large king bed, a decent-sized bathroom.  Nice views of the range.  The room had a fridge and microwave (I think all do).

Overall, a great place to stay!
