OK, I admit that I'm looking for the hotel that I love in Paso Robles. We spend most of the time wine tasting (guzzling) so I just want a place that has a comfy bed, enjoyable pool and spa, and a free breakfast. Yeah, the wineries open at 10:00 AM so we gotta be on the road!
We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard and were not impressed. The Hampton Inn has bigger rooms, the complimentary breakfast gets you out of the door (how can you mess up a yogurt and bagel?), the warm pool and spa are on the backside of the hotel so you don't get the roar of the freeway - what more can you ask for when you are done eating and drinking?
The delicious restaurant in the La Bellasera hotel (Enotera) is right across the parking lot. You aren't located in the heart of the downtown area but you can drive over to the Artisan restaurant and get a delicious meal (just go ahead and order the Wild Boar, you'll love it).
Our favorite wine drive is the 46 highway and the Hampton Inn is close to this highway cut-off.
I took off one star because I thought the beds were too hard but the other people we were traveling with thought they were fine. The towels could have been bigger and softer too but we were paying $150. a night (OK, I'm a cheap AZZ and don't like to pay over $200. a night for a hotel room). If the price of a room was no consideration, I'd probably stay at the La Bellasera and get a massage too!
The brown paper bags with a water, apple, cereal bar, and muffin come in handy on the "Wine Road."  The grab 'n go bags are FREE (one of my favorite "F" Words) at the front desk.
We did go check out the historical Paso Robles Inn but were put off by the sulfur smell. I'm not a fan of the "Dutch Oven."

As part of a large chain, one expects to find the basics done well.  The basics are done well. A nice size room with confortable beds, excellent breakfast, free cookies at the front desk, snacks for sale at the front desk 24/7, clean pool and hot tub.  Comfortable lounge chairs in the lobby if needed. Good in-room high speed internet access. The basics done well.
