I cannot believe I'm giving this place 5 stars, but I have to tell you - its one of the nicer hotels/hotel experiences I've had.

I really don't care for Hilton properties, but this place did a great job of helping to change what I think of the brand altogether.

Staff - friendly and attentive.  Saw I was winded, gave me a bottle of water. My mouth
is watering just now thinking about the complimentary lemonade they leave out.

Breakfast - nice, hot, clean - don't know what else you need. Great selection as well

Room - clean & quiet for the most part. There was construction outside, but I don't blame that on Hilton. Plenty of outlets which is nice. They also offer room service from PF Changs and another nearby restaurant I can't think of.

The entire building is smoke-free, which, I LOVE

If you're looking to stay somewhere in Austin, I can't recommend this place enough.
    ...still sort of in disbelief.

Great hotel that's conveniently located to the happenings of austin night life.

Pretty spacious room with clean sheets, free wi-fi.. with an awesome crepe place right down stairs!!

Prices were reasonable. Only thing is there no real parking.. had to valet.

This was my first ever stay at a Hampton Inn; my meetings were timed with large events and conventions in town, so this was my available option.

Pros: Friendly staff, great location, large rooms, exercise room with a few machines and some free weights

Cons: Super thin walls (be prepared to hear *everything* your neighbors are doing), short-staffed at the valet stand so you're stuck outside with the car running just waiting, all processed foods at the breakfast buffet, pricey parking

I loved staying downtown, but I'll be looking for a different place to stay for my next trip.

Spent two nights here. Got a pretty good rate for our stay. Check-in was fast and friendly. Breakfast is complimentary and good by hotel standards. They also have a complimentary happy hour on weeknights, with wine, beer and snacks. The bed was comfortable and the location is great. Wifi is free.

Logistically and price wise, this is one of the best hotels downtown.  They do not have a bar but why bother. They are walking distance from tons of bars and restaurants and have the best free breakfast I have ever consumed.

Often you can find great deals if you are willing to pay in advanced.  They have a nice balcony that is easily enjoyed during breakfast or during the weekday happy hours they throw. Oh that is right. They don't have a bar but weekdays they do a happy hour for guests which equals free beer, wine and snacks.

They have free WiFi but do charge for parking (valet only). I try to score free parking or find a pay overnight spot because it tends to pan out cheaper.

Note: Ladies, do not change clothes or partake in other naked activities by the window. Once when staying here I looked out the window to notice the valet dudes at PF Chang's were looking at the hotel windows with binoculars. Jesse D, decided to moon them, so hopefully they learned their lesson.

It is an excellent choice for those who wants to be about a few blocks from 6th street where the party/bar scene is at, and about 20 minute drive to the Town Lake for the outdoors activities.

The price was at a reasonable rate for Labor Day weekend.  The complimentary hot breakfast is really what really gets my money's worth for my stay.  I mean they had eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, biscuits, fruit, muffin, and they provided you the batter for the waffles.

Along with the breakfast was the free wireless internet

The room was clean, comfortable, and nicely maintained, my room had a great view of downtown Austin.  The bed was so comfortable for me to get a good night's sleep.  Friendly and accommodating staff.

It is best to do valet as a guest since parking anywhere in downtown is always a hassle.  Sadly, it is an additional charge to my room.

Great location - just a few blocks from tons of restaurants, shops, bars, etc. Higher floors have a great view.

Lobby is nice - including a computer available to guests. The breakfast area is really nice, including several tables outside on a patio. Friendly staff (although the woman behind the front desk always looking unnervingly frazzled). All the guys that were working valet were nice as well - they were able to give good recommendations when we were looking for a good restaurant nearby.

Honestly--- anyone who has seen a REAL 3 star hotel would never in their right mind give a 3 star to the Hampton Inn and Suites in Austin. First of all, it is one of the cleanest hotels I have stayed at in this price range category ($200/night is not alot of money in downtown Austin). The lobby floor is cleaned and polished 3 times a day (when I saw it), rooms are immaculate, bedding is spotless, beds are to die for comfortable,  curtains are of new material ---and room darkening--, great furniture, immaculate bath-- not marble or anything fancy--- but totally acceptable), very quiet hotel rooms-----
    FREE wifi.

My travel partner and I were both very happy with this property. PLUS it is in THE BEST location AND offers an extensive FREE breakfast with even "Make your own Waffle" station--I kid you not.

The air is a bit stuffy when you get to the higher floors and goodness forbid that your window overlook the pool because you'll have to deal with screaming kids playing in the morning.

My room looked out to the street and it was quiet at night. This place truly is a gem because of its location. There is a small liquor store literally around the corner so you can buy alcohol and snacks for the room (which has a fridge) and a plethora of restaurants within walking distance to choose from... including BBQ Heaven which is the bomb!

Rent a bike on 6th Ave. and cruise downtown effortlessly and not shell out the cash for the valet.

Would I stay here again? Yes.

    Cheers!

Two ecstatic thumbs-up for the Hampton Inn. It's not some fancy schmancy boutique hotel, but it's in a great location, has great amenities, and a very friendly staff.

The location is perfect... you're close enough to the fun yet far enough away to not hear the craziness when you're trying to sleep. The staff was very friendly and assisted us any time we had a question without any hesitation. The breakfast is pretty kick-ass as far as hotel breakfasts go, I haven't seen a spread that big in quite some time. For the price, you can't beat this hotel.

The only downside I could find was that the pool wasn't exactly heated... but still. I was in Austin. In April. And it was 90 degrees outside. That's a far cry from the frozen tundra of Chicago & it was amazing.

You really can't beat the pretty sweet deal here. My gf and I stayed here for one night, and at around $120 (with taxes and all), we got a spacious room with two queen beds, really comfy beds with fluffy pillows - I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. The vodka may or may not have had something to do with it.

The hotel has an outdoor pool, which is hard to find at a downtown Austin hotel for this price, room service, free Wi-Fi; it's located right across from PF Chang's and just a hop, skip and a jump from The Four Seasons where you can indulge in their chocolate martinis. Mmmm. And the concierge brought me a toothbrush at no extra charge - and they refused my tip! Ya know, some fancy pants hotels nickle and dime you, and that's what I appreciated about our stay here. They didn't come close to doing that.

The only downside were the slightly thin walls (we could hear our neighbors running their shower, folks out in the hall, etc.), but luckily we were situated in a corner room. I'd come back here fo sho.

For a first-time Austin tourist (not counting a couple of business trips previously), the Hampton Inn is not a bad place to stay at all. I would characterize it as decent with some high-end touches but almost totally lacking in local flavor (like the Hotel San Jose, for example). The discount rates to be had via Expedia and other travel sites, however, are not to be dismissed since Jamie W. and I were able to get our fourth night free after paying a $125 per night rate. Certainly not bad for a downtown location ideally situated between the 6th Street music scene and the Lady Bird Trail.

It's quite popular, a relevant point when you are trying to compete for an open waffle iron during the free breakfast hours when guests stampede the dining area on the second floor. Fitting, I guess, since we were in Texas. The waffle irons become WMDs in the battle to secure a table. Along the same lines, it can take quite a while to get to the lobby from a higher floor (we were on 15) as the elevator made constant stops no matter what time of day. It also bothered me that the hotel charges $23 per day for valet parking in an area of town that doesn't appear too congested.

On the upside, there is free Wi-Fi, as well as a couple of washer/dryers that costs about a dollar a machine to use per load. Our clothes were in need of a good scrubbing since we were a week into our trip to the humid South. I also have to acknowledge that the service at the registration desk was really top-notch, accommodating a minor fiasco regarding my online reservation with ease and diplomacy. In hindsight though, and now that I have more familiarity with Austin proper, I would like to see what other hotel options there are. Hampton Inn sounds like my back-up plan.

The largest nicest Hampton Inn I've ever stayed at! Lobby was grand! Service was great! Perfect location for everything! We walked everywhere we needed to go! The rooms were a bit of a disappointment, typical Hampton Inn experience, they look and felt old and dirty! The bedding was uncomfortable, furniture needs and update all the way around. Shower was not good! Towels did not feel right (gross) Closet to small! I'm not a fan of the breakfast food at Hampton the Eggs seem like powdered eggs........

I've stayed here for business and pleasure, and it's hard to beat the price and the location.  You can walk to all kinds of things.

It's a short cab ride to anything, and the sushi place across the street is great.  The breakfast has waffles, some canned fruit, bacon, and some decent omelets.  It's good enough.

Never had a bad experience here.

The Hampton Inns are known for being great business hotels for several reasons.

    1.) Free Wi-Fi
2.) Breakfasts to go as you walk out (already packed in brown bags)
3.) Free breakfast if you have time to sit
    4.) Easy check in/outs
5.) Easy parking and/or valet option
    6.) Business center/computer in lobby
    7.) Clean well laid-out rooms

This location has all that...plus, a happy hour. I have stayed at probably 20+ Hamptons in the country, and this one is the first with a free Happy Hour. It's like they have mixed some of the great things that their sister chain Embassy Suites offers their guests. Love it!

This location also has a unique vibe to it. Not the typical blue motif of most Hamptons, but this great brown wood provides a ton more character to this downtown Austin location.

If you have a car, the only parking they have is valet. And I think it is $25/day, so budget for that. There are easy in/out priveledges and you don't wait long at all to get your car.

Great customer service, easy/convenient location from the airport and in the middle of downtown.

I was very pleased with my stay at the Hampton downtown...

Location: within walking distance to just about anything in DT Austin.

Staff: Excellent. Very helpful with an early check-in, nothing but sweetness all 'round.

Amenities: pool, gym...not that I had time for either, but they exist! There was even a USA Today waiting for me on my doorstep.

Food: Free breakfast...and not just some dinky donuts and coffee, they have a pretty stellar spread and plenty of nice seating. They do also have a happy hour...wish I had made that ;)

Rooms: small, but well outfitted. I had the smallest type of room and it still had a kitchen, large desk and dresser. Plenty of space. Beds were super comfy and I slept like a rock. Overall very clean.

I would def stay here on my next trip to Austin...

Great location: there are several restaurants around you can easily walk to the Capitol and the University.

Fantastic Breakfast: the selection is unbelivable: waffles, hot & cold cereal, fresh fruit salads, pastries, you will certainly find something you like.

Staff: Ok-- I agree with Kyle that they seemed kind of disinterested in dealing with me.  When I had a billing problem later, speaking with them became a huuuge hassle.

Extras:  There's a pool and (small) exercise room.  There's also a riduclous $20 fee for valet parking, which they require that you do.

I might stay here again, but the hidden $20 valet fee would make me look at other hotels first to see what they charge.

Great location if you are looking to be close to the sixth street bars and restaurants. It's a short walk or a really quick pedi-cab ride. The lobby and rooms are very nice. The hotel staff was very friendly but fairly incompetent for a few reasons:

    - They told us that they'd recommend we walk to the Hula Hut, after 35 minutes of walking in 95 degrees + 90% humidty we decided to find cabs and realized that it's a 3.5 mile walk  - which includes a freeway overpass. Obviously very bad advice.
    - I called ahead an requested adjoining rooms and was told it wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived we found out that there are no adjoining rooms with double beds in each room.
    - We called to request extra towels and they never arrived.

The pool is very small and only has about 12 lounge chairs. I thought the breakfast was pretty disgusting - canned fruit, fake-tasting meat, etc.

Overall my experience was okay. I would be more disappointed if we hadn't got such a good deal on Expedia.

I had the most awful hotel stay ever here. Coming from the hospitality industry, I guess I am a little snotty when it comes to service. This is only because I KNOW that you can bend over backwards to make the customers happy. The smallest things can ruin your stay at hotels and that was the case for me. When we got in after dinner and a couple drinks, I quickly changed into my PJ's and tried to open one of my beers. I forgot that my bottle opener was on my keys which was with valet, so I called the FD and asked if they could send one up quickly. They said "No, we do not have enough people at the front. You can come down and borrow it, but we will put a $30 hold on your room". I declined this offer since I was in my pajamas but thought it was silly that they put a hold on your room. I figured, since it was late they probably only had 1 person at the front. The next morning (12pm- just so you don't judge me for having a beer in the morning). I called again to see if they could bring it up. Again, the answer was no. ?!?! A little outraged that they said there was no available employee to run the bottle opener up to my room for 1 second. Determined to drink my Magic Hat #9, I headed downstairs to have them open my beer. As i approach the front desk, three employees chatting with the front. You gotta be effing kidding me! A little frustrated but happy because I am finally able to drink my beer! Moving on...

Later that night, I tried to valet my car and waited for maybe 5 minutes and no one came. So my friend watches the car and I talk to Chris at the front if there was someone to valet my car and noted that I had been waiting for awhile. With an attitude, he responded " I can get you started if you need me to". Why is it necessary to give me an attitude when I am paying 23 dollars a night to valet my car. Furious.

I have complained to HHonors and the Diamond desk. I will never ever come to this hotel again and will never recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful interior. Definately shows that effort was put into making this place one of a kind.

Excellent service- Despite my friend who made the reservations being 2 hrs away., they checked us in and changed our room request with no hassle. When we had a cake with no pan to take it in they loaned us one. When we checked out only to check in again the next day they stored our things in the storage there till we checked back in.

Great location- resturants all around. Walking distance from 6th. Can cab it downtown from here.Downside:paying for parking. I am a firm believer that hotels should charge us ahead of time so we have somewhere to park when we get there without having to worry about paying for it.

Friends loved that the pool was in the middle of the hotel and not on the roof. And breakfast is always fresh!

This hotel is in a perfect location.  It is walking distance to all the 6th Street and Congress Street entertainment.  They offer free wireless (or wired) internet, free hot breakfast and happy hour 5-6:30 Monday-Thursday.  The hotel room rates range between $119 and $175.  If the price is on the higher side, check the Hilton a few blocks away to see if they are any cheaper (sometimes they are).  These rates are very competitive for this area.  The hotel is extremely well managed, the rooms are very nice and the staff is friendly and helpful.  The only downside of the hotel is there is only valet parking and it is $23/day.  Overall this is a great hotel in a great location and it is my first choice when staying in Austin.

Over-priced for what you get, but great if you don't mind paying the price. The room that I stayed in *wasn't* a suite and was pretty basic. The location is great because everything is in walking distance.

Since I know Austin pretty well by now, I'd rather stay outside of downtown at a Staybridge Suites for the same price of a regular room at Hampton. At least I get a suite (either junior or full size) with microwave, refrigerator, etc.

You can find street parking close by (read the signs though) instead of paying the God-awful charge p/day for valet/hotel parking!

I stayed here for SXSW Interactive. It's very pricey, but for the location and service, it's worth the extra luxury during such a rowdy and reckless time.

    * Front desk was always polite and extra helpful.
    * Room is very nice. Even though there was one King bed there was also a couch full pullout and rollaway.
    * Complimentary Internet through a landline -- but during the convention the bandwidth is soaked up. Don't expect to really do any meaningful work but it's still considerate for complimentary.
    * Morning breakfast is amazing. It switches up but there can be eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage, etc. Plus a variety of juices, milk, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, bagel, fresh fruit... all complimentary! Insane.
    * Complimentary coffee bar. And tea and hot chocolate.
    * HAPPY HOUR. Monday through Thursday starting at 5 they have freeeeee Shiner and Miller Lite on tap. You get to pour it yourself. And chips and salsa, crackers, popcorn. Supposedly it's the Manager's Reception and if your beer isn't full, she will come buy with a pitcher to refill for you. "Can I freshen up your beverage?" That's some Texan hospitality right there.
    * Location can't be beat. Steps away from the Convention Center, Downtown, food places, etc.

My only gripe would be roomservice. I think maids tried to come in every hour of the daylight. They even knocked at 8:30am once. 8:30!!! They didn't always restock all our stuff, but front desk is too happy to give you anything you want, so I don't have qualms with that.

You really get what you pay for.

This is a Hampton so you need to set your expectations, but compared to other Hamptons this is the best one I've ever experienced. Great Hampton Inn location...you can walk to anywhere in downtown Austin which is key since you don't want to be driving after hitting up all the bars.  The rooms are nice, there are mini fridges in there that got my water so cold that there were little bits of ice in it!  The beds are the new Hampton beds...sooo comfy.  The breakfast area is huge and even includes seating on a patio and they serve the usual pastries and such but also cooked food like eggs, sausage, and biscuits and gravy!  Yum!  There's also a happy hour which I didn't get to experience since I was already out somewhere else having happy hour...  For room service you can order from Flemings or PF Changs which is pretty cool I guess if you want to sit in your room alone and eat.  Overall the perfect home base for your Austin festivities!

Driving from San Antonio to Chicago we decided to check out Austin. There was a huge street fest and a college football game going on. Bad timing. The only place with rooms in town was the Hampton. We decided to splurge and forget about it. For $240 it was not worth it. We had fun Friday night at the bars and at the festival on Saturday. I don't regret paying the huge rate but it was not that great for $240.00.

The people at the front desk are great, and seem to really like their job (which is a good sign). The price is a big suprise, it's inexpensive for a downtown hotel and the rooms are just as nice as the Four Seasons down the street for a fraction of the price! Free breakfast, pf changs room service = a winner for me. If you come into Austin and need a place downtown, consider this hotel bc not only will you leave with a full belly in the morning but you will have money left in your account!

I really enjoyed my stay here. The room was clean and quiet and nicely decorated. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the whole hotel seemed newly redone. Also the location is great for access to downtown and sixth street. In the morning we had a beautiful walk along the river that is just a short distance away. The only thing I didn't like was the free breakfast because there was nothing healthy available like a bran muffin or some granola but it had all the basics most people would like. For the price I was very impressed

A clean, updated hotel with a nice breakfast and beer/wine happy hour included in the rate. If you can get it under 100 it is a solid recommendation. I will most likely stay here my next biz trip to Austin.

Great location if you're going to be at the Austin Convention Center (i.e. South by Southwest) or anywhere else downtown.  Not frilly in the least, and I was unfortunately placed on a smoking floor since nothing else was available.  Internet is free, but wired rather than wireless.  But on the positive side, I had no real complaints and there was free breakfast in the morning.  Including biscuits and gravy.

Good bang for the buck, great location, and generally pleasant.  It's not the best hotel you'll stay at, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives here.  Wouldn't be my top pick, but it's a solid option.
