5 reviews for Hampton Inn and Suites
Nicer than most Hamptons. A pretty good deal for the money I think. Inside, it's like any other Hampton Inn. But if you're here on the cusp of Malibu and you want to stay somewhere for less than $150, you could do worse. Stay here. Free wireless and continental breakfast.
But which continent?

Ever notice these things about the greater San Fernando Valley and just north of it (NOLA, north of LA) towns?
1. Close in, the town name has to be one word of 2 or 3 syllables:
Burbank, Glendale, Northridge, Chatsworth, Gemco, Raymer
Tarzana, Reseda, Encino, Winnetka
(Well, residents and you can debate whether Burbank and Glendale are in the valley)
2. OR, there has to be a Park, Hill, or Oaks in the 2 word town:
Canoga Park, Magnolia Park, Lakeside Park
Mission HIlls, Woodland Hills, Granada Hills, West HIlls, North Hills, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills
Sherman Oaks, Thousand Oaks
(Well, you and residents can argue how far north the valley goes)
There are exceptions. Like Van Nuys. Did you know this was named by Jewish settlers? Yup, the land was getting snatched up in Los Angeles, so they climbed the Hollywood Hills, near Griffith Peak, looked down on the San Fernando Valley and said to themselves:
"Van Nuys, Van Nuys!"
Or Calabasas. This sounds like it should be in a foreign country somewhere exotic. Actually, this toney neighorhood and the 1 acre plus lots in nearby Hidden Hills are home to many former celebrities.
Vicky Lawrence (Carol Burnett show). Nick and Jessica (former 98 Degrees and former Gospel singer couple). Those reality show Kardashians, or is it Sarkisians, or Amnesians?
Agoura Hills is between Thousand Oaks and Calabasas. It is a sleepy, upscale/celebrity but not-quite-made-it-yet bedroom community of 21,000, with 2 churches and 1 synogogue, 3 gas stations, and 11 restaurants which include Starbucks and IHOP.
Not sure why there is a Hampton Inn and Suites here. Not sure why I stayed here. But the hotel is new, clean, showing no wear and tear, and has little touches like free internet, 24 hour snack store, free breakfast, microwave, fridge, and little TV lap table.
Still not sure why I stayed here. The $99 dollar Friday night rate may be part of it. Or maybe I am not-quite-made-it-yet and want to be near fellow not-quite-made-it-yet D list celebrities and suburbanites?

So just to clear this up up-front, the only reason I stayed at a Hampton Inn, specifically in Agoura Hills, was my girlfriend was a bridesmaid in a wedding in Malibu and the bride and groom put the wedding party up for the night there.
That said, I can continue on with the review. From the exterior and at first glance inside this hotel seems fine. It's a fairly new building, with new rooms, the lobby is neat and tidy and the pool is nice. Unfortunately, that's just it - it's passable, but nothing stellar comes to mind. The rooms were fine, but nothing special, and sure, they provide free internet, but any hotel that doesn't charge by the hour should.
My biggest gripe was the ac. There was no thermostat in the room, just a knob on the window ac unit. Normally that wouldn't be a huge deal (though not something i like), but the temp was never consistent in the room. The ac would come on, cool the room down a lot and then shut off, only to turn back on when it was hot in the room. I kept waking up either freezing or sweating my ass off. Not cool. Why would you build a new hotel and not put better air-conditioning in the rooms?
The free continental breakfast, on the other hand, was easily my favorite thing about our stay. Most CB's at hotels offer little selection, but there was a whole assortment of sausages, waffles, cereal, muffins, etc. After the night of fire and ice I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with morning yumminess.
All in all, not a bad place to stay I suppose, but I've stayed in much nicer places that charged less (even though I didn't have to pay). A step above Travelodge, yes, just not that big a step.

Sadly, I've stayed at too many Hampton Inns. But this one is definitely above average. It's clean and quiet, and has the standard free breakfast, happy hour on weekdays, high speed Internet, afternoon cookies, etc. But I can vouch for its consistency. I think I have stayed at this hotel 15-20 nights in the past six months and it is always the same. No crazy random surprises.
It has an outdoor pool and a small fitness room with a Precor elliptical, treadmill and bike. Lots of restaurant options nearby for the business traveler unfamiliar with the area.
My only complaint (as with all Hilton hotels) is the use of styrofoam at breakfast and the lack of recycling. Completely unnecessary and socially irresponsible!

WOW!! A wonderful place to stay if you need a room in the area. Right down the street from that much higher-priced hotel, but I'd pass on that place. We arrived way before check-in time to find that our room wasn't ready, but they were going to contact housekeeping to get a move on for us. Free highspeed, with a microwave, fridge, and a great free breakfast- much more than your standard "continental breakfast". Staff is very accomodating. I highly recommend this place.
