    New shop is finally up and running. $5.75 a dozen. Giants, smalls or a mix combo, you pick the size. All the same price!

    Crackle-crack, squirt, gobble, slurrrrrp -burrrrppppp. Repeat 24 times, and climb that stairway to Heaven.

    Hint: REALLY need to open a (warm) oyster bar inside (long stainless steel bar and stools at the window) where the customer picks 'em, shucks 'em, and eats 'em right there. Just hose it down when the customer's done eating. It's hard feeling one's fingers while shucking in 30- 40F weather.

    This is a great little store, and has the potential to do a lot more business. It's too bad they don't have a nice area outside where people could picnic and look out at the canal -- because that would bring in more traffic. The sales clerk did say that they had a grill outside that people could use. But, the idea of standing around on gravel doesn't seem very inviting. They could take a lesson from the Marshall Store and Hog Island Oysters down by Bodega Bay.

    Great service in the store, awesome oysters, crabs, et al. Don't buy the horseradish, Kelly's Pride, it's tasteless. The Fish Creek cocktail sauce is marginally better.

    The owners need to install a seafood bar, and add a mignonette to their sauce offerings.

    We bought a pint of small and another pint of extra small oysters. If I had it to do over again, I would buy a pint of yearlings in place of the small. The small are actually pretty large oysters.

    The drive to the store, north of Lilliwaup, from Tacoma is scenic and quick. The stretch of 101 along the water is beautiful. It's a great trip.

    I totally love the Hama Hama Oyster Company.  You can find their oysters for sale in finer grocery stores throughout the country - but aren't we lucky to be so close to the actual store!  Wooo!

    The store itself is small and is located VERY close to the Hamma Hamma bridge (don't forget the YELL "Hamma Hamma Hamma Hamma Hamma" as loud and as many times as you can while driving over the bridge(s) - it brings good weather.  Promise).

    Even though its small - they sell oysters and anything you might need to go with them:
    *  Hama Hama Oysters and clams in the shell, fresh from live salt water tanks
    * Shucked oysters
    * Fresh fish
    * Smoked Salmon and oysters
    * Pickled fish and oysters
    * Hama Hama T-shirts and Sweatshirts
    * Cookbooks

    The t-shirts are beyond cute and the smoked salmon is the best I've EVER had.  There are several different types of smoked salmon available - the garlic is excellent as is the plain.  There are probably at least five other types that I have yet to try - but I will!

    Very cool little store. Clean, local products. Variety of tasters. Good shrimp cocktail. Shucking room and life shellfish every where. A must stop on the drive.

    Teriyaki oysters and smoked salmon were special sitting on a picnic table watching the digging at low tide.

    I've been stopping at the Hama Hama for years whenever I'm up near the Hood Canal. They are now in the new building which is next door to where they used to be. I imagined it would be way larger inside but the actual store is about the same size as the old one. BUT size doesn't matter! They still have all the stuff they used to carry and more. (They even have a cute little fish tank full of wacky and fun sea critters for you to look at! I must have stared at it for like 20 minutes while my friends were deciding whether or not to buy some oyster shooters.) I usually buy the pre-shucked oysters in the pint containers but I have also bought the clams and crab legs in the past. The prices are good and it's just an all-around pleasant experience. I highly recomend that you stop in if you pass this store!! They'll even give you free ice, people! DO IT! :)
