As per Adam and Carrie's reviews, I also give this place a 4 star rating ;) (We really need to scope down the photo booth pictures!)

Awesome music, good drinks and nice staff. Also a pretty decent crowd for a Monday night. Interior was really cool and there is a little dance spot as well as another bar on the top floor. Overall, good location and well worth going to.

A Confession

I thought I'd never been to Halo before. Before tonight (er, last night? Monday? Whenever . . . ), that is. I even said as much to the four of us still at Cypress, debating whether to send ourselves home like good little children or go next door for "just one drink."

Uh, yeah. As soon as I walked in, I realized - "oh, wait!!" . . . "I HAVE been here!" . . . Hmm, guess I wasn't sober on my original visit . . .

Loved the photo booth. Not sure how great our pics turned out (I thought I was having a good hair day, but . . . ). Really loved the Madonna ("Holiday," my most-favorite-ever Madge song was rocking) and old-school MJ playing. Not terrible at all to go with a regular like Kit F. who knows, um, everyone there. Super people-watching - even on a Monday!!

Now that I've put two-and-two together (and gotten four!) I know I dig Halo. Maybe I'll even earn one, one day . . . we'll see!

I cannot believe I have not written a review on Halo yet. I have been there many times and each time have had a great deal of fun.

The first time I went here was for the Lucid Absinthe party. I like absinthe, even though Lucid is not the real stuff, I still enjoyed Halo's Absinthe concoctions. The traditional Absinthe drink with the sugar was good as well as the monkey gland. I forget what the third one was called but I liked all of them. Some people I was with did not like the Absinthe, but it made for more drinks for me.

I have been there a few times when it was pretty dead, but it is usually decent. It allows smoking unfortunately but at least I do not have to go anywhere after here except home. Bartenders are great and they have a lot of cool mixed drinks.

I like the upstairs area. They have a DJ, dancing, and places to sit. The stair case leading nowhere is weird, but interesting. I liked coming for the burlesque party as well when they had girls dancing on ropes hanging down from the ceiling. This place is definitely good for quirky theme parties.

Low lighting, great atmosphere, and great drinks make this a great place to go after Cypress or anywhere else really.

For our first night out in Atlanta, Halo was not the ideal lounge to visit.  I relied on the posted reviews for a trendy, popular spot to hit on an early Monday night.  Between the hours of 2000-2230, Halo lacked a DJ, drink specials, and a crowd.  I am sure that the Monday night reviews of Halo were based on a time past 2230, but in that case the it should be considered a *club*.  We lucked out on a street parking spot otherwise the valet would not have been worth it.  On the bright side, the bartenders were friendly  and prompt taking our drink orders since the place was slow.

FACTS:
*Average drink price/person = $7.50
*No cover on Mon. from 2000-2230
*HALO is located on the Right-side (Your Left) of the Baltimore.
*The lounge's entrance sign consists of an incomplete slanted circle.
*Limited street parking.

I'm not a club person, nor am I hip or cool or even want to be! That being said!
Door person is as you would expect attitude, and part of the drink sales prevention team by over committing to his role!

We went with a couple that are well connected to the scene and they new all the movers and shakers in the club as well as the owner. This proved to be the best!

I loved the layout of the club, more of a lounge feel, good music, good vibe, again people really know how to step out in ATL and Halo did not disappoint.

Jason and Alicia were great, thanks for a great night out!

I'll fully admit that I don't go out to clubs now that I'm a card carrying senior citizen, however, this is a very cool spot.

Came here with a few friends on a Friday evening and the place was busy but not overly crowded.  The space is really neat looking, very hip and lofty looking.  Look at the pics on the club's website and you'll get an idea, but they have a tri-level setup with the bar being on the bottom floor, a lounge area on the second floor and the dance floor being at the very top.  The DJ was also spinning some decent beats.

Everyone working here , from security to bartenders, seemed really friendly and chill (well, I was with Halo royalty, Kit F) and the 3 drinks I sampled were definitely on point.

I often struggle to take out-of-towner visiting friends out to clubs when they ask, but Halo will definitely be the destination of choice.

I'd give this place 4.5 stars.  I thought that the interior was very nicely decorated, but I am not too sure what the whole upstairs section is about... that design was a bit off.  However, the downstairs bar is beautifully lighted and there were more than enough bartenders so that service was pristine.  Drinks were well made and moderately priced (although a bit expensive in my short Atlanta experience).  I would come back here again, and I can't say that about most of the places I have been to so far in Atlanta.

I finally went to Halo for the first time...  It was definitely better than I had expected.  My fellow yelpers were right....  The decor is trendy, perhaps even a little bit on the border line of trendy and cheesy but still quite nice.  The drinks were well made... dirty martinis all the way.

Good looking and well dressed people crowded the place but not overly so that you felt like you were trapped in a tuna can but busy enough that you didn't think you were missing some party that you hadn't heard about.

The only problem I see is that they play good music....  This becomes difficult, if you are like me, and want to dance.  The dance floor is about the size of a peanut and while some people do dance, its not meant to be a dance club.  Overall, a good place to chill.

* I'm editing this to three stars, seeing as I've had two separate people harass me about giving this place low scores... get this... If you like to do nothing other than sit/stand at a bar that charges "Atlanta" drink prices, then it's great. No issues... some people enjoy doing nothing other than sitting at a bar and drinking, but if you want a large place to dance/explore/mingle (like me!), you'll be somewhat unhappy.  Commence with original review...

There's nothing really wrong with the place itself, but I CANNOT BELIEVE they try to host trance/house/EDM DJ's.  The dance floor is about the size of a McDonald's bathroom stall, with a steep flight of stairs directly to the side that I secretly wanted some drunk chick to fall down all night...

Back to the point, consider the fact that a portion of the people who go to see DJ's just stand around the perimeter of the dancefloor, and realize  that there's room for maybe two people to wiggle, awkwardly, between the wallflower perimeter. Then add the constant flow of people walking up and down the stairs trying to reach a bar on the opposite side of said floor, and you've got an annoying mess of a spot.

Dance club? That's not a dance club... thiiiis, is a dance club!

(Clubs you over the head!)

I have to admit... I was shocked that there was a little L.A. style club  next to the place we just got 20 cent wings from!

Atlanta does that to you. City planning was clearly not a priority. I've stopped asking "why" now, and just go with with the flow! You have to! And thanks to people like Kit (walked us right in) the flow can be pretty damn smooth!

The space itself is impressive architecturally, and I love dance music, so I really wanted to move it after a couple of drinks!

Sadly... really sadly... there wasn't a dance floor to speak of! It's a lounge... so sad.

If it had a decent sized dance floor this would be my spot to go nuts at! Pounding lights, beautiful people, deep thundering music that makes your ass move!

Talking would be almost as impossible as dancing was... and you know what that means kids...

Have no illusions, Halo is a pick up bar.

A place  where you come to see and be seen.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I just prefer something a lot more... um... raw!

I love this place. It has all of the funky decor, music, and vibe of an upscale club... but without any of the pretentiousness. Seemingly, everyone is there just to enjoy a drink and have a good time; and there's always a good mix of people there.

If you're looking for something other than the same old-same old bar stool scene, check out Halo. It's a cool spot. Kind of a hidden gem in what used to be the center of "clubbing" land in midtown. I'm glad it's survived all the changes in midtown and continues to be a fun spot to hang out.

Music:
They had trans, house, etc, but not pops which doesn't bother us at all.
Once you get in, you can't expect to chat with your friends there since the music is so loud. We didn't see people were really dancing. I saw people were standing around the bar.

Parking condition:
So hard to park around this area. We parked on a street which was 2 blocks away from this bar.

Cover:
I think it was $10. Correct me if I'm wrong..

I went there on Saturday night and we left there around midnight.  They had a good crowd. Many of them were kind of older folks somewhere between late 20s to late40s?
Some were couples and other were group of single people.
Anyway, over all it's not bad to hung out with friends.

Halo apparently offers something a little different to the ATL scene. Not quite a club, but a step up from a bar. There's certainly a DJ and it's way too loud to hold any real conversation, but it doesn't have that overwhelming feeling of the larger dance clubs. The dance floor is upstairs so you can easily get away from the craziness and just belly up to the uber-hip bar.

The crowd also seemed a good bit more laidback than typical clubs. Sure, there were plenty of women wearing next to nothing, but there were also a lot in jeans who (like me) had probably just come from the other bars in the area.

last night was my third time hangin at Halo. It is one of the few places that i can go to, and be guaranteed a great  time. i was pleasantly surprised to see that a bar has been added upstairs, and i love the new lighted-tables.
the vibe in halo is always upbeat as is the music. being from n.y i thrive on finding places that remind me of being in the city. Hola is one of the places that is my little home away from home spot...great place to take friends.

Out with the old, in with the new - I love the new look and feel of HALO! Great space, attentive bartenders, stout drinks, awesome DJs, loud music, beautiful people, and just an overall fabulous vibe. Great place to go by yourself or with a large group.

I love that they have recently added a bar upstairs - so much more accommodating and convenient. There are fun events/parties almost every nite of the week - helps to make the work week fly by! Love me some Halo.

I love this place.  With the newly renovated lounge i feel like its also brings a new walk of life.  the new upstairs bar is a great getaway from the hectic lower main bar.  I love the massive focal wall with built in LED lights.

"I want something creamy tonight!" Yes, that's what this girl said to the uber handsome and fabulous bartender, Ryan.

"I know exactly what you want!" he said and we exchanged winks.

Yes, Halo is one of those places where you can say something like that and they will always know you're just looking to hook up with a delicious drink.

Sitting in the beautiful bar, accompanied by a group of Atlanta's finest Yelpers, I waited for my drink while talking and talking to the adorable Tulie, and enjoying the "ambiance." I was really curious of what Ryan was carefully fixing at the other side of the bright, marbled counter. Halo was...the third stop of that night? Yes, maybe.

The place is charming in a very nightclub way, and because it was a weekday night, it wasn't packed or smoky as I read in other reviews (thank God!). The music was OK, nothing to write home about, but I understand the DJs can get really creative and entertaining.

The highlights were definitely the drinks. About five minutes after my liquor petition was made, Ryan came back with an ivory drink for me. I tasted it and immediately felt the love! It was similar to a Brandy Alexander, which I adore. On top of it, he put two fresh cherries marinated in Apricot Brandy. OM Lord! Those cherries, combined with a sip of the drink were mana and nectar from the gods in perfect unison! I can say my initially creamy joke materialized in a dainty, light and scrumptious drink. Ryan told me he usually makes it during fall and winter seasons, but he made an exception for me...nice touch! Tulie got a Pink Pussy (yes, that's its name!) and Pam got a Pear drink that looked spectacular. We all tried each others libations and loved them.

I will go back when in Atlanta...every time I think of Midtown, I will have those cherries in my mind. Always...

I know a man  that knows just about everyone in Atlanta in some way. What started out as a very chill night, (I say chill as me in skinny jeans a crazy logo shirt and beach sandals.) My get me the 'hook up' friend mentions taking the party to Halo (Girls usually can get by at clubs wearing whatever but beach sandals???) . We take the 30 steps from Cypress and My get me the 'hook up' friend walks up to the door at Halo slapping hands saying 'wut up' to everyone and gets us in, my neon yellow sandals and all.

I enjoyed Halo. Drinks are reasonably priced. The environment is very relaxed. I'm not much of a techno/house music girl but I actually enjoyed the music the DJ was spinning this particular night. Will Halo become my new Sutra (guaranteed to have a good time place?), Possibly!

A very cool, modern, upscale lounge where the pretty people hang out.

I arrived to Halo with a group of friends to attend the Lucid Absinthe Launch Party.  There was a good crowd for a Thursday and the Absinthe was flowing free-ly... I mean literally, everyone received two free absinthe drink vouchers (I used only one) and, frankly, if it had not been free, there would have been a lot less absinthe flowing...

The entrance to Halo is rather non-discript on a side street giving the impression of a well-kept secret.  Upon entering, the lounge has a very lofty ceiling but maintains an intimate mood with indirect lighting. The scene from the entrance is dominated by a long, straight bar uniquely lit from within to provide the dominant lighting for the bar area. There are also numerous areas with seating which enable groups to gather.

Adding to the ambience, a DJ played upbeat music at a level that you could talk over with a little effort (and with the help of intimate invasion of personal space ;) ) and the bartenders were friendly, approachable and helped with drink decisions.

Looking at the picture of Rita D. made me remember that a little over a year ago I practically LIVED at Halo. I was just getting out of school and worked at a bar where all the bartenders and servers were "in the know". They knew where all the cool underground hot spots were and where there were other good bartenders.
*Note to self: Bartenders ALWAYS look out for other Bartenders and servers*
Really cool laid back place but chic enough to the point where if you didn't look like you just bought the outfit you would stick out like a sore thumb. Can't really Gage the prices of drinks(refer back to previous note). The music is more techno and the lighting just adds to the fact but they will sample in other things so you don't feel like your at a Rave. If the place is still as cool as I remember I have to hit it up next time I'm in Atlanta.

This place reminds me of those trendy lounge spots in L.A.

Halo is a very cool place to come and chill, dance, socialize, and have drinks. The crowd is mixed (meaning black, white, Asian) and diverse. Ladies usually come to Halo dressy or semi-casual and the men usually wear anything that's clean (as always). The DJ is really good. He played music from every genre seems like. Halo is definitely a place where you HAVE to visit.

I had the pleasure to come here on a Monday night where all the cool kids come and hangout. The place has a very cool bar that changes colors and is the only well lit item in the whole bar. It's dark, its roomy, and Ryan the cutey bartender serves up a great Pink Pussy.. yeah you heard.. it:)
The crowd that night were all from the "industry" meaning they work at restaurants, bars, and clubs.. all were friendly and the place closes at 3am.. wowsers.. upstairs they have a good lounge area , so if you are with a large group, this place has plenty of room.  Even with the indoor smoking, I was still able to breath freely.
Plenty of restrooms they even have a VIP bathroom:) so god knows what it's used for ..hehheeh..  Overall Great place to catch a drink.. and it's conveniently located.

Definitely a fan of Halo! Came last month for the first time. Really cool decor inside, I like how the door is on a small side street. The lighting inside is very cool. Bar area is sort of cramped, but oh well. Lots of interesting nooks and crannies to people watch. I don't think the drink prices were out of control either. We didn't stay long but I had a good time while there! Also-- definite bonus points for the intense number of bathrooms :-) I will definitely be going back. You can park on the side streets by there too-- we didn't have a problem with that last time. But of course it may be better to take a cab!

Ahhhhh...Halo...been going since the doors opened. Worked there for 1 1/2 yrs many moons ago and I still go 3+ nights a week. Cutting down from 5 nights a week. Sometimes going out is more work than....well, work. SIN nites on mondays, $2 baby grandma shots can't be beat. Tuesdays, eeh. Weds, hit or miss. Thurs, Euro night with DJ Edo. Fridays, Chris Grass supplies the best beats. Sat, Rare Form does their thing eventho sometimes it gets ghetto but fun nonetheless. After all that, you need Sunday to rest up.... but Apres usually kicks it on sunday nites.
Halo, great bartenders, cool beats, well dressed diverse crowds and the bathrooms aint too shabby either. Bring back the s'mores! ;)

This place screams Awesomeness!! I totally agree with Brett H. I love the new look of Halo and the crowd is great- very diverse, which is hard to find in Atlanta. This is a great place to bring out of towners as well as if you want to just want to have a good time. The DJ is great on Saturday night. The bartenders are extremely nice- I spilled my drink and he made me another one for free! Did I mention that the cover is free-$5 and the parking is only $5! Can't beat that at all. Everytime I go to Halo I love it and say I should go more often, but never seem to.
The place - both the space itself and the crowd - has a great vibe. Chill, relaxed, hip, diverse. Its one of the few places I've found that maintains diversity and doesn't get overrun by one type of group or another.

I didn't go 5 stars, because I despise paying covers.

Not sure if they still do, but they used to have a guy who would play the bongo along with a guy spinning - it was amazing (if that is a certain nite - someone please let me know EDIT: Evidently that is Friday nite - thanks for the tip Gastro N.)

Having lived a block away from Halo for 2+ plus years during 2005-07ish years, I found myself ending up at Halo literally three nights a week. It was kind of like my neighborhood "Cheers" (along with MidCity Cafe), and I guess I became somewhat of a regular (not sure if that is a good thing?).

I no longer live just a block away, but I still manage to make it into Halo randomly. The bartenders and front door staff are cool, and I always felt comfortable going there. I didn't even know there was a cover to get in?

When I go back now, it seems to be overrrun by cheesy Buckhead folk who seem to be lost since Mako's and LuLu's Baitshack were demolished. There is hope - now that T&G has re-opened at Lindbergh, maybe the cheesiness will slowly disperse in that direction.

Fridays/Saturdays are always way crowded and overwhelming. You can't really move anywhere in the bar area.

Never have been a fan of the music there, but good bar, good drinks, and good times were had more often than not!

Halo is definitely one of the more upscale bars in Atlanta's midtown that make you feel like you are really actually in a city.

A favorite among many young professionals of Atlanta, this hip-and-trendy bar delivers serious cocktails in a seriously swanky setting that gives off that oh-so-cool vibe that you see in the movies.

Most of the kids who play here think that they are too sexy for their shirt, and that everything is "hot. " Eh, alas, if you come with a group of friends it actually can be a very fun playground.

If you can find a place on the couches, you are in luck, because it will totally be your night, but if not, expect to be a bit uncomfortable as their isnt much seating. Solution: Keep on drinking. The more you drink, the more fun you have.

It's definitely a huge step up from the college bar scene I was accustomed to a few years back...Serious cocktails, serious atmosphere, and seriously swanky.

The crowd is super-posh, and there is a ton of money floating around, so if that is your thing, I say jump on board; you will be comfortable here.

I find it a great place to visit from time to time...But I dont go quite as often as I did when I first moved here...Some people call this place a bit pretentious, and I can understand why...But that wouldnt stop me from spending a night out on the town -and slinging back a couple of cocktails here..What can I say...I have the ability to have fun in any and all setting-especially with a cocktail in hand!

The decor is artsy, and the actual bar itself is dimly lit and serves to bring people together. There is a great seating area towards the back, and up the stairs. Cocktail tables and a small scale stair case serve as an area for more seating...

I dont consider this a dance club, but there is an area where dancing happens...I dont think its actually designated for dancing, but it works!

A diverse, ever-changing crowd keeps this club interesting. Nightlife enthusiasts are attracted to Halo's inviting, upscale feel...especially popular midweek. It's a nice setting for sipping cocktails and listening to music; there's even free wi-fi!

Weekends, however, attract a coiffed and accessorized clientele on parade.

An Ultra-lounge...Where the music thumps loudly but very few people dance.  Limited seating, but that just forces you to make the rounds.
I was a little worried about clothes...but my pair of nice jeans and a button-up oxford with the sleeves rolled up...worked out well.

Since returning to Atlanta, it's one of the few places I have visited where I felt it was an older crowd.  It was a diverse crowd (gender, race, sexual preference), which is one of the things that makes Atlanta great.  Having lived in Nashville for most of the last 6 years, you don't see that very often.

Some people have written about drinks being a bit more pricey here.  I believe we paid $6 for Jack & Coke, and the drink was well made...strong but still tasty.

Limited street parking.  We paid 4 or 5 bucks to park in a nearby garage.

I'll be going back.

Crowded? Yes. Pricey? Yes. Loud? Yes. Does this bother me? Not at all.

Halo is a vibrant club. The young professionals and college students crowding the dance floor are stylish and sociable, and the spinning music is exhilarating. It's a fantastic place to meet new people or just have fun with your friends. If you are feeling energetic and affable, get dressed up and come out to Halo!

Monday nights are the only nights I LOVE going to Halo. The crowd is surprisingly diverse. Bartenders are pretty fast. But the good mix of music on Monday nights is the best reason to go. Oh and no cover charge helps to :)
Overall great place. Not very conducive for convo though. you've gotta find a corner to do that in, even then you have to be in someone's ear if you want them to hear you. But who's there to talk? I wanna dance:)

Disclaimer: at no time was I sober during my visit to this establishment.

I mean, it was fine, and I had a good time, drunk. Cover was $5. I got my drink in a reasonable time, the music was decent if a bit ADD (they played something like 45 second clips of songs, from most of what I could tell, drunk). The crowd was okay. The layout seems less than ideal, and there is too much of a people jam to get from one place to another or find people or dance in certain areas, drunk. Not as much character as MJQ. And boy, did my dress smell awful when I left - maybe no more awful than any other smoky place, but not as worth it for some reason.

The crowd is chill and the music is loud. Not a typical bar, club or lounge.. Combination of the 3. Somewhere you can let loose and not have to worry about impressing someone exactly. If you like to mingle to great music while having a few drinks, come to Halo. The dancefloor is upstairs which leads you away from the chaos from the bar downstairs. It's dark, it's cool, and it's not too posh nor a hole in the wall place either.

Good thumping contemporary beats played by an urban DJ mixed with a live conga drum player, and good (expensive however) libations equals a good time in my book.

The mood lighting will make you feel like are the sexiest person in the room, well, the liquid courage probably adds to those thoughts too.  If you are a person that likes to dance, sorry, you'll have to do the cool head bob to the music (there isn't a dance floor).

Me likey for sure.

So, normally my Halo stories don't end very well... tonight was a great exception and that's quite an accomplishment considering that I went with a group of friends that all work at The Cheetah.  I don't mean to imply that strippers get into trouble.. well, maybe I do mean to imply that.  Regardless, tonight was amazing.

I use the word amazing with slight hesitation because for something to be amazing, it really has to be an event.  I met my friend Allison here after she invited me to see Tiffany perform.  No, not the Tiffany you're thinking of - although she's apparently very famous in Asia. :)

The crowd was very mixed (gay, straight, whatever, black, white, whatever, etc) and Tiffany sang pretty much all night.  She didn't do any cover songs and she basically felt her way through the beats that the DJ was playing. Incredible voice!

A completely wonderful night and I met tons of great people.  Since I doubt I can replicate the evening I don't know when I'll be back, but at least now I know that there is fun to be had.

This is the perfect place to come and chill...to me, it has mroe of a lounge environment than a club, even when it's poppin. it's never over-crowded with people, even on busy nights, so there's always space to people watch, which is one of my favorite things to do. they've also got a nice dance floor, where people can regularly be seen getting wild, but really, in halo, it happens everywhere. i absolutely love the setup...there's a bar on the entry floor, then two landings with couches, tables, and free space for dancing (or whatever else people do in clubs...), then a top tier with a dj, dance floor, and stairs cascading down from the ceiling that gives you prime viewing of everything that's going on. from there, you can peer at those that are bold (or drunk) enough to shake their asses, and then see even farther over through a clear railing the bar below and all of the people sitting down their socializing.
drinks are also great, and i particularly enjoy their lemon drop martinis, but you can never go wrong with their $2 grand marnier shorties

I really like Halo for having it's own identity.  Halo pits itself as having deconstructive and minimalist architecture.  Deconstructive architecture strives to stimulate unpredictability and simulate controlled chaos.  There was certainly a juxtaposition between the cold, clammy concrete walls to the warm, luminous bar.  The randomness of the concrete stairs to the plethora of glowing light fixtures made this place visually interesting. I am pretty sure the owners named the place in reference to the lighting and not the video game.  But, it certainly has the video game feel with the barren walls and futuristic furniture.  This lounge is certainly not conducive to dancing due to space layout, but more so for enjoying the conversation with intimate friends.  Also, it maybe a place of philosophy, where you question, why that beautiful woman is engrossed in the not so attractive man.  Which inevitably leads to introspection of why you're not engaging with that beautiful woman.

Now I leave you with some quotes of Jacques Derrida, founder of deconstruction, the challenger of assumptions of metaphysics and the character of  text.  In some ways, I think these quotes relate to the art form of yelping.

"If this work seems so threatening, this is because it isn't simply eccentric or strange, but competent, rigorously argued, and carrying conviction."

"No one gets angry at a mathematician or a physicist whom he or she doesn't understand, or at someone who speaks a foreign language, but rather at someone who tampers with your own language."

"Certain readers resented me when they could no longer recognize their territory, their institution."

"Whatever precautions you take so the photograph will look like this or that, there comes a moment when the photograph surprises you. It is the other's gaze that wins out and decides." [Even if I turn my face at an angle or suck my gut in, I guess the photographer thinks I'm fat haha]

"I never give in to the temptation to be difficult just for the sake of being difficult. That would be too ridiculous." [ I wish some of my professors took heed of this.   I guess for some of you, you wish it was your significant other]
