7 reviews for Halloween Harvest Festival
This place is great fun!!! I have been coming here for about 4 years now and it has been getting better every year!!
As for the heat that one of the reviewers was complaining about?? Check the Weather Channel!! And Be aware that this is a FARM. It will not have AC or HEAT. If you have been in the midwest, you get it. Not to mention...you'll wait 45 minutes to 2 hours for a ride at Disneyland or any other attractions in the heat. So whats the big??
Anywho, for the price and free parking...this is a great family place to come. There are food vendors...funnel cake (yum), hot dogs, tamales, BBQ...lemonade! There is a vintage carousel, inflatable slide, Bungee jump and petting zoo. The Corn Maze is pretty cool. Not action packed, but a great adventure for the kids. Take water, comfy shoes and maybe even a snack. Sometimes people create their own paths...not a good idea!! A friend of mine had a severe allergy reaction to the fresh pollen! Stick to the path!! You can go thru this during the day or night.
At night is my favorite time!! That is when the Factory of Nightmares haunted house and the Creatures of the Corn scary trail open!! These attractions have both improved greatly over the course of the time I've been coming here, and frankly think I'd rather spend my dime here than Knotts, Universal or Magic Mountain any day. Its much less cramped, you aren't freight trained thru the mazes and the scare people/monsters are way more creative. They have gone from basic masks and loud noises to more character driven, spooky creepiness. Don't get me wrong...there are some very hard hitting scares here too, but they don't rely on this.
I highly recommend that you go...get the VIP on the weekdends, to get passed the long lines or better yet, go on Thursday or Sunday! Virtually no wait! I came this passed Sunday and we waited 15 minutes per attraction.
This was my first visit to a Pumpkin Patch and I must say, it was a great first time! Having never been to one, I was expecting just a big lot with a ton of pumpkins of varying sizes, but what I got was so much more.
I have never heard or seen a Corn Maze before that day, and I had to experience it. The map that they gave you was useless to me, but it was a lot of fun walking through the maze and being surrounding by these giant stalks of real corn. (I love corn). Although I am a bit too old to be enjoying all that the place had to offer, I must admit, I was tempted. The giant slides, the haunted house and the farm animals took me to my youth, where I would have been all over each of those attractions.
The food there looked pretty inviting, as well. I only allowed myself to partake of the roasted corn, but I was more than pleased with my decision. The corn was perfectly roasted, and incredibly sweet. My BF had the kettle corn, which was equally delicious. A bonus was all the faucets they had there so that you could wash your hands after you ate - which I totally needed after devouring my roasted corn. Also, it was so good, that I was inspired to buy some fresh corn from the market they have at the festival. Yummy and nutritious :)
We went during the day, so pretty much everything was targeted to smaller kids. They also have evening activities, like hay - rides and running through the corn maze or haunted house being chased by monsters, which I think aimed for the older crowd. After visiting during the day, I am definitely psyched about going back for the nighttime activities.
There are some downsides to the festival. Parking is limited in the lot directly in front of the festival, which leaves street parking. And, I agree with another reviewer that it could do with some more shade. The sun was pretty fierce when I was there, and everyone was slathering sunscreen on like it was made of gold. There's a lot of dust there, which is definitely an issue, especially when its windy, like it was when we went. But it was so pleasant to go somewhere that provided good, wholesome fun for everyone, without being sullied by sexxed up costumes. It's Halloween as it should be - scary and fun. Sure its a little pricey for what it is, but still a small price to pay for good family fun that takes you back to those days when it was all about the spook.

My friends and I went this past weekend for the after dark attractions, namely The Creatures of the Corn (cornfield with actors in costumes), Factory of Nightmares (haunted house) and Corn Maze (cornfield with no actors in costumes).
We had a blast!
I posted a blog about The Creature of the Corn at http://bit.ly/219gTt.
I included a few pics and vids as a sneak preview. But it's best you experience the fun yourself and buy the Scream Pass. It's well worth it.

Aw, it's cute and i basically come every year. There isn't much to do and it's kind of geared towards little kids, but most festivals are. They have the usual carousel and pony rides, but they also have some cool stuff like a hay ride and a little gemstone mining station, haha. I would have totally done it if it wasn't FREEZING outside. But of course the highlight of the festival is the pumpkin patch, the haunted house and haunted&non-haunted corn mazes. It's always fun. Last year my friend and i went once and were HUGE wimps and decided to just do the little kids one that isn't scary, but someone tore down the rope and some of the monsters from the scary maze snuck over and scared the shitttttt out of us. Haha, it was terrifying. But this year i just sucked it up and went in the scary one, which isn't even that scary. It's more my boyfriend psyching me out the whole time, haha. But it's super fun. And actually pretty legitimately scary.
Anyway, aside from that they have some delicious snacks. Get Shaved comes and i adore themmmmm, even in 45 degree whether. if you're a normal person and like warm things when it's freezing outside, Tia's Mini Donuts are there (deeeeelicious), so be sure to pick up a dozen of those little monsters. And if you don't want anything sweet, be sure to at leastttt get a piece of fresh grilled corn. Oh my goddd, so good. And they have all of the toppings you could ever want. I tried my corn with parmesan cheese & garlic salt for the first time and now i'm addicted and can ONLY have my corn on the cob that way.
Anyway, it's a cute thing to check out if you're in the area, i highly suggest it.

The other reviewers seem to be talking mostly about the evening/nighttime event and it does sound cool for teens and adults...maybe even for older kids who enjoy being scared. But the daytime festival for kids is HORRIBLE.
Not that it's scary. Oh no. Instead, it's hot, dusty, mostly shade-free, has looooong lines, is terrifically overpriced, and has little to recommend it that you can't get cheaper and/or better elsewhere.
Admission when I went in October 2009 was $10 for adults and $8 for kids. For this, you get to enter the festival grounds and go through the corn maze. That's it...everything else is extra.
So I paid $18 for me and my seven-year-old to wander around in a huge undecorated corn maze with a minimal "water conservation" theme. They have 8 big signs with water conservation facts on them and a hole-punch hanging from the sign, so you can punch your map to show that you've been to that part of the maze. And they have lots and lots and lots of corn. No decorations, no signposts to amuse you and help you figure out what path you're on or whether you've been on it before. At first it's kind of fun to be semi-lost in the corn. And then it becomes just a really long boring walk though corn in the broiling hot sun. For which you paid almost $20. It took us almost an hour to get through it, even skipping whole sections. Yes, we did get lost once, but only for about 10 minutes of that total time. It certainly is a BIG maze.
The rest of the daytime festival is a bunch of kiddie rides in a dusty lot, including a giant inflatable slide, two bounce houses, a portable bumper boat ride (i.e. above ground and small, not large and permanently installed), a carousel, a petting zoo, a trampoline/bungee jumper, and a few other things. Each of these cost between one and three activity tickets, at $2 per ticket (with discounts available for larger ticket purchases).
I spent $4 for the two tickets for the bumper boats and waited in line for over 30 minutes. Why so long? They were letting only two kids on the ride at a time, although there were a bunch of empty boats at the back of the ride area. His turn came and my kid got into a soaking wet boat and went around in a circle next to the side where he climbed aboard because the boat's steering suddenly didn't work. After a short while, he was taken off the ride. I complained at the ticket booth, where I was told "well, we won't give you your tickets back, but you can talk to a supervisor if you want." Then the supervisor was radioed and I heard her say over the radio, "oh yeah, the boats are broken...give her two tickets out of the drawer."
We then waited in line for 45 minutes for the trampoline/bungee jumper (3 tickets), which was very cool, but not really worth the long dusty wait. There has to be someplace in the LA area where you can go flying though the air without having to stand in broiling hot dust for ages and ages first.
We won't be back, unless I have $30-40 burning a hole in my pocket, the temperature is under 70 degrees, and I have a lobotomy and completely forget our first experience there.
I LOVE the corn maze! I came across this a few years back and the thought of walking in a haunted corn maze sounded like fun!
In the daytime hours, it's a little festival geared towards kids. In past years there has been a petting zoo, a rock climbing wall, a pumpkin patch, slides, a bounce house, basically kid fare for the parents to keep their kids busy in October. They also sell food and drinks to keep you there as long as possible to make money of course, but it's all in good fun!
At night, the corn maze comes to life and it's fun! Here you have two options, go in the regular maze and navigate your way out or walk the established path with the costumed ghouls and goblins. If you are skittish, the maze itself is fine. It's dark, you're alone in your group and you wander aimlessly. Me? I like to hide in the corn stalks and grab friends to scare them! Am I sick and twisted? Maybe, but I have fun so I don't care! As for Creatures of the Corn, they do the same thing, hide in corners and pop out and scare you. Some great costumes and it's just freaky to walk in a corn maze at night. My favorite is the guy with the mask and chainsaw who chases you. People are screaming left and right and I'm laughing and on the verge of tears from all the laughter. One of friends is so scared of it but loves it too. We always go together and she has told me in the past that if she went alone, she probably would mess her pants because that's how scared she gets!
The other perk is they have a haunted house so there's more than one attraction for you to go on. It's fun like the corn maze, people pop out and scare you. They had a clown a few years back and my friend is terrified of them. What do I do, I run ahead and tell the clown to focus on her because she gets so freaked out! I'm so evil, but I LOVE this time of year and I love what they do at the maze!
Hand down, the corn maze is one of the BEST attractions in LA for Halloween. I've gone to Universal Studios Halloween event, the Queen Mary and several others but the corn maze is something that I return to year in and year out. It's just that much fun for me! I even went to a haunted hayride in Calabasas (see my review for that too) and was telling people there how great it is at the corn maze! That's how much I like it! It's all around fun. It's not often you can say that you have walked through a corn maze, let alone a haunted one at that! It's Halloween! Have fun and enjoy yourself! And since you're there, get some corn on the cob afterwards! You ARE in a corn field, might as well enjoy it and be in the right frame of mind! Have fun!
If you haven't been to the haunted cornfields of Woodland Hills, you haven't lived or died of terror.
Every year Pierce College puts together a Halloween Harvest Festival; and at night, it becomes the Fright Fair, complete with a haunted maze of 12 ft tall corn and a better-than-amateur haunted house. This is the only Halloween event I never tire of...and the Creatures of the Corn cornfield maze is a must do - very frightening when creatures pop out of the corn and the sound of a chainsaw makes even us 30-somethings run for our lives. You'd think you were actually living that Mel Gibson movie.
These college students give it more than their best college try - their efforts rival and sometimes outdo Knotts Scary and Universal. Plus, with country music blaring, colorful lights strung across the field, booths selling kettle corn and tasty ears of corn, you'd think you were in Oklahoma, not LA County. But all of that is part of the charm (and romance if you bring a significant).
