This is one of my favorite special occasion dinner destinations because the food quality of every course is very good and the atmosphere is a bit kicked-up. Not formal-stuffy but elegant and traditional with attentive service.
I love the flavor of their beef: They don't skimp on the grade of meat; i.e., charge for Grade A Prime and serve cheaper lower-quality beef. Steaks and prime rib have always brought a big smile and made the meal special. Coupled with one of their delightful salads, a glass of red from their wine list and their killer onion rings, you have a very special occasion indeed.
I respect a chef that spends as much attention on their salads as their other dishes. Too often this part of the meal is overlooked. Their ingredient combinations are at times surprising but always fresh, well-balanced and delicious. And their traditional salads such as the Caesar are spot-on with the flavors. Their breads are excellent, as well.
To make the evening really memorable, a good selection of desserts is served. They almost always have a cheesecake, key lime pie, fruit cobbler and a chocolate dessert so there should be something for everyone. Having just enjoyed a rich and filling meal, I usually split one with my dining companion so that I can end the delicious feast with a sweet, lingering flavor.
In my experience, the servers seem very professional and just friendly enough. No rushing or making the customer feel rushed. I would expect to pay more at a place that has consistently high quality food and service and a warm ambiance where you can linger and savor your meal and companion. The value here is very good for the price.
Looking for a downtown-atmosphere in the suburbs? Hall Street Bar & Grill seems to fairly successfully achieve a sense of Pearl District swank in the heart of Beaverton. And if the location were a little better - so that the outdoor patio seating overlooked a little brook or a meadow with trees - then I might tend closer to 4 stars, at least for ambiance.
The value is definitely in the Happy Hour. Drink specials include delicious cocktails (you really should try their Limoncello, its unbelievably good), beer and wine. So there is something for everyone. The Happy Hour menu is cheap & offers variety. The Burger (which came out over-cooked) was delicious, comes with fries and is a bargain at $6. I also recommend the teriayki steak bites - a little too sweet for some I'm sure, but sublimely tasty to me.
I find the dinners to be over-priced. But you get a lot of food. Its actually a bit like a McCormick & Shmick's restaurant- lots of rich tasty food, for more money than you want to spend. The selection of dishes are good, but not extraordinarily innovative.
Service has been good on every visit, and if you stick to Happy Hour - you'll likely walk away satisfied with your experience.
Tried the late night happy hour last night. And while I had heard A+ things, we really only had a C- time. Food was good. But service was SLOW SLOW SLOW. Beyond that we had a messed up bill and charged non-happy hour prices. It was alright.
But I think I would just drive into the city and go to a better HH.
This place is almost 5 stars. Food is of great quality. Very tasty dishes. My favorite is the butternut squash ravioli. Its homemade!!! yummy. Salads are fresh and crisp. The service can be spotty but the place is always packed. So I'm thinking they need a few more servers. The atmosphere is really nice. The first time i seen the outside of the building i didn't have high hopes.... but that's my fault, never judge a book by its cover. shame on me. Fellers out there... this is a great place to bring a date.
Had the three course price fix steak. Excellent steak, didn't care for the onion rings (salty). Overall good meal. Good service. 3 stars because of high price - $36.
We had a fabulous dinner at Hall St last night. The restaurant was full, so we ended up in the crowded loud bar, but it mellowed out quickly. The service was slow at first, but the server was fun. Hall St is offering three course meals at reasonable prices. The food is exceptional in flavor and generally lovely in presentation. The first course was chowder, which was full of tasty clams. I had the asiago-crusted sole, which I enjoyed more than any fish I have ever had. I also added some jumbo prawns. They were huge and the flavor was amazing. The basil mash potatoes were yummy, but the green color is unappetizing. My dessert was the cream brulee, which was good, but I do like a thicker sugar crust that gives you that anticipatory moment of good things to come when you crack it with a spoon. My sweetie had the panna cotta, which was espresso flavored and may be better than the crème brulee. Overall, Hall St is a very nice place and something different in the burbs. I would suggest reservations on the weekend. They have a very good happy hour, but that does seem to have gone up in price recently.
I was excited to see that we have a nice place for happy hour out here on the west side. They have some awesome fries that i love and i keep on wanting to go back to. But i don't because the service i had sucked pretty bad. Other then that the food seemed to be just average.
Maybe i had too high expectations for them but i think it's not asking to much to get decent service.
The boyfriend and I had been meaning to come here for a while, out of curiosity. He got in trouble the other day so he figured it was a good time to take me someplace nice ;)
I started off with a blackberry mojito, which was nice and refreshing, and not too sweet, as many mojitos tend to be. The waitress then came by and put a candle on our table; which prompted an "Oh noes! This is a date now, crap!" from me.
My main "complaint" is that almost half of the items on the entree menu were fish... being as though I am horribly allergic to fish, it left me with few options. Many of the remaining options were pork, which I just don't really like.
So I opted for the shrimp pasta thing, which was really, really yummy. I don't do spicy, so they toned down the sauce with some alfredo, which I really liked. It was a tasty entree, though I'm not really sure the size/taste to price ratio was balanced quite properly.
The boy was not particularly hungry, so he got teriyaki steak bites from the appetizer menu. They were REALLY tasty, yum.
The service was good, and the atmosphere was really nice. We sat in a booth in the lounge area, which I actually think was more intimate than sitting in the dining area. We enjoyed our experience here.
Great food!
Great service!
A place with both of these deserve 5 stars.
I came here for lunch yesterday and I had a great experience. The staff was extremely friendly and provided very good service. I haven't had such great service like this for a very long time. Our server was very helpful and always checked up on us. She did a wonderful job in taking care of us.
I ordered the Caesar salad and chicken carbonara linguine. Both dishes were delicious and tasteful! The chicken carbonara linguine was very good with the mix of pasta, peas, onions, chicken, and bacon. YUM. I heard the happy hour is great here, but the bar is always full. Maybe one day, I will get to try it.
I have been to this place at least a dozen times in the last year and while there have been some good experiences, I am torn between a two and three star rating. There are some items that have been really good, some pretty average and then some that were down right insultilng. The fresh fish is usually really good.
The last time I went, I had the ravioli and a friend had the prime. The prime was probably the worst I have seen for some time. The raviloi is desent....but super rich.
The atmosphere is nice and cozy but I think they could use a menu makeover.
Through many people I had heard that this is a great place to go. I may have been confused as to what their motives were to attend this facility, but from my understanding; it must have been for their happy hour.
I can't say this place was horrible, it really wasn't. It was a nice place! Great atmosphere, friendly service, virtually not a bad seat throughout the entire place.
My complaint was that what I ordered, something down the lines of a Halibut steak. What came to me was a plate with a piece of fish relatively the size of a Hostess Ding Dong and two sprigs of asparagus. I chucked out something like $20 for this plate of food which appeared to be just an appetizer.
My date however ordered some pasta dish with shrimp and I've never seen so much food on a plate in my life. Why did I get hosed?
Other than the proportions, I, as my date; got to find out the hard way that she was allergic to something within the food.
This has been a consistently great place for dinner. My aunty and uncle first brought us here when we first moved to Beaverton in 2000. We've since gone for several celebration dinners over the years - birthdays, promotions, new jobs, etc. We've never been for happy hour, though.
Family favorites here are prime rib and creme brulee. They also have seasonal dishes like wild salmon and Dungeness crab. Usually dinner is followed by splitting dessert. Portion size is moderate, which is good. There are rarely leftovers being taken home, but no one is overstuffed or hungry. Service is consistently knowledgeable and accommodating.
Most recently we were here for Sam's birthday with a small party of five. It was a lovely adult dinner. There were drinks that were good. We had bacon-wrapped scallops as an appetizer - yummy. A couple of us ordered the early-bird meals - smaller portions, smaller price tags. There were also desserts to be shared. For Sam's, they lit a candle and placed it on the plate in a bit of melted wax instead of in the dessert. There was no embarrassing singing by the staff - just a small song by our own party. Everything was good - nothing outrageously memorable, but everything yummy. (The dinner could have been overshadowed by the gifts that followed... but that's another story.)
This is a solid special occasion restaurant. No soaring to the rafters, but nothing falling flat, either.
There are a dozen better places to go in Beaverton for food. HSG is too $$ for what you get and they sometimes go terribly wrong. Like the one time I got mussels here and they were very bad, as in spoiled. I'll go to DeCarli, Mingo or any of the truly great Japanese and Korean restaurants we have in the area.
I have frequented Hall Street Grill many times since it's probably one of the only classy (read NOT a chain) restaurants in the Beaverton suburb of Portland. After my meal on New Year's Eve this year I felt compelled to share my great experience.
Most of their food is classic American but very well executed and consistent. I love their happy hour, which even runs on weekends. But my meal on NYE was outstanding! It was a grilled chicken served on a bed of quinoa risotto. Now being a natural food fanatic, I've had quinoa before. Bleh. But this really was outstanding. It was tossed with toasted nuts and peas and it had a rich flavor that made you forget you were eating a "healthy grain." Although a tad too salty, it was still delicious. I took home leftovers and mixed them with brown rice to make another meal at home.
The location isn't the easiest to find but trust me, it's worth looking for. They even have kids' menus for the little ones--a practice that is all but abandoned by nicer restaurants (which is a shame because I like my son to enjoy a variety of dining experiences--but he NEVER eats the portion sizes they serve to adults).
The place is nearly hard to find thanks to the trees surrounding and the dingy strip mall that surrounds it.
Do not be deceived. The food is great, and the drinks are amazingly tasty.
They have a full stocked bar that will cater to your mood for the night. From wines to beers to shots to fruity drinks.
They aced the Lemon Drop Martini. It's not too fruity and not too strong. Its just blended perfectly. It's best to order during happy hour as it is almost half the price.
Happy hour can almost be attributed in going on a battle. The place gets crowded and all the tables do get easily filled (4-630pm).
The late night happy hour is more forgiving.
The happy hour menu is almost as good as ordering in their main restaurant. Only more affordable and shareable.
Dining inside their restaurant is an experience as well. Though you may note that nothing will stand out but the service and the food. The ambiance is so so, in my opinion but you have to go there to be the judge.
We had a great time and a lot of that was due to the server, Luke. One of our party arrived early and by the time the rest of us got there they were like best friends. There were 6 of us. He made us laugh and joined in on our joking around.
The food was good, I would say my chicken was a little salty for my taste but Luke let me substitute the sides for something that sounded great and they were.
Even on a weeknight they are packed (5:30 pm) so make reservations and get there early and if you don't then prepare to walk a long way from a neighboring parking lot. They don't have enough parking for the size of the place.
I still can't give this place higher than 3.5 stars, but it's still one of the best "classy" dining experiences in Beaverton.

The addition of a Kobe beef burger to the happy hour has improved this place. Home made chips were… Read more »
This place WAAAAAY exceeded our expectations, specifically due to the service. We had a wonderful server named "Loie" who frankly made our night.
The restaurant was extremely accommodating when thrown the "food allergy" curveball and they really went out of their way to make us comfortable.
The oven brick chicken (and I hate this phrase with a passion) was to die for. I didn't think you could actually push chicken that far. :)
GO here! Totally worth it. Ask for Loie! (low-eee)
Seriously?! I haven't reviewed this place?
Well, let me tell you that although the place is a smidge more posh than I am usually comfortable with the savory entrees are ALWAYS worth it. I've been there thrice and have not yet been disappointed by the food or the service. Each course brings new and pleasant surprises in texture and flavor. Roasted chicken, fillet mignon, salmon, garlic potato puree, kalamata olive and cheese appetizer, roasted red pepper soup, "Fireball Molten Chocolate Cake", all cleverly delivered and beautifully arranged.
The only thing that has been odd is that some of the booths can be a bit snug, easily remedied if you don't mind sitting next to, instead of across from, your date and scooting the table away a little.
They open with olive loaf bread served with some kind of a sweet onion/garlic butter that I haven't been able to figure out. A fun pairing in my opinion. The house red, a Shiraz, was a rich, warm, and slightly fruity compliment to my meal. All in all a special place worth visiting, and great idea for a date meant to impress.
I love Hall Street's happy hour. Great food, great drink, what more could a girl ask for.
This is a frequent haunt of mine, as its close to where I work, and some days you just need to end the day with a lemon drop, mojito or Margarita (notice the 'or' there, its not recommend to do all 3 in one sitting).
The prices are great at happy hour.
I have also had lunch here a couple of times, and I really like the lunch menu. The wasabi mashed potato is my favourite!
I am not 100% sure if this is a three or four star place but I will be nice and round up this time.
I went here for lunch and enjoyed a very good sandwich. The shaved prime rib on a ciabatta bun. It is severed with Au Jus and and healthy amount of red and yellow peppers, cheese and onions. I was expecting more of a french dip but I was pleasantly surprised.
You have the option of chips or a salad which I like since I can fool myself into thinking I am having a somewhat healthy meal by selecting the salad.
I get the feeling that dining here is very different during different times of the day. I would suggest it as a good place for a business lunch. I had prompt and friendly service but I did arrive at 11:35 and I think I might have been the first customer of the day.
Hall Street Grill is hit or miss. I have been about half a dozen times over the last few years. It is one of the few placed were when you ask for a medium rare burger, they actually do it, rather than asking then making all the burgers well done. Most of the time that is. i had two occasions where they overcooked it. The salads are excellent, with candied walnuts and a great blue cheese dressing and crisp lettuce. Even the bread is thick with wonderful little pots of butter. Problems arise with the front of the house. It's lunch time, not a full house and when you arrive you are asked if you have a reservation. If you do not you must wait about 10-15 minutes. Even after we had our meal on several occasions there were still plenty of empty seats. Seems a little too "hoyty toyty" with all that. Still, this place is worth a try.
This is my favorite place for Mother's Day brunch! They have this special brunch menu only once a year! The orange cinnamon french toast and Frittatas are out of this world!
I've also had the prime rib which is alright. Not great, not horrible.
Hall Street Grill has a great happy hour menu. I couldn't get enough of their microbrew fries. Teriyaki steak bites, green beans, and kobe burgers are also good!
Service is really good here too!
The only reason I'm reviewing HSG is to point out that it is quite possibly the only place in that part of Beaverton where you can get a drink and dessert past about 9:30 on a weekday.
Even "Dessert Noir" at Cedar Hills Crossing, who advertised they were open until 11:30... closed.
I'm sure many people will disagree, but HSG's existence to me illustrates what's wrong with Beaverton. Hell, HILLSBORO has more innovative restaurants opening up in it and it's even further from the core. There are several prime properties on Cedar Hills Blvd that could support a large, cool NON-SPORTSBAR sort of restaurant, but... alas...
Very good prime rib, pretty good appetizers, good bet for happy hour (4-6 and after 9pm, also all day Sunday).
This is a sister restaurant to Oba downtown and they share some menu items last time I was there. You also don't have to get dressed up as if you were going to Oba if you want a more casual meal or live in the burbs.
I can't comment too much on the other entrees because I get the prime rib every time I go. It's salt crusted and pretty darn good. I order the biggest one they offer and it's been just right every time.
Hall Street Grill is one of my favorites when it comes to Happy Hours in Beaverton. I had the Snake River Farms Kobe burger for $6.50, and it was a very large burger with fries. Very tasty. I've also had the Prime Rib Coyotas for $3.95 that are an excellent choice. Lemon Drops for $4 during happy hour!
Every time I visit Beaverton, I come here for dinner. They have the best prime rib I have ever eaten at a restaurant. The waiter told me it was aged for 28 days. It melts in your mouth and you can almost cut it with a butterknife. Prime rib is the only thing I order so I can't tell you how the other food items are.
Another Happy Hour place for me. You know I'm starting to get the feeling these Happy Hour places have all the same generic foods. The only reason I gave this establishment three stars over two is because they have Mac & Jacks. I always suggest it to the staff to serve Mac & Jacks whenever I go anywhere they serve beer but they just stare at me like I'm about to give them a colonic. The food is decent and the staff was nice, but the whole place is too dark for my taste.
My husband loves the food here. In addition, the manager I dealt with was exceptionally professional and helpful. Bravo.
This is by far the most disappointing restaurant in Beaverton. And yet, I can't stay away, because I get BOGOF entrees from work, but even with a free entree I don't think it's worth it. The pros are the service (awesome) and plating (also great), however, it just sets you up for a bigger letdown when you get your food. I've had the filet mignon (not bad, but I'm pretty sure it was actually sirloin, and $32 is pretty pricey for that), prime rib (also not great), and the scallops (three scallops on a handful of couscous with had a piece of *dirt* I bit down on). Each dish was a new low for dining at this pricepoint. If they knocked, say $15 off each dish I definitely wouldn't complain, but there are easily 100 restaurants within 10 miles that can do a lot more for your money.
how can you not love this place? Salads that are great, main courses to cry for, desserts - oh the creme brulee leaves me speechless and the key lime dessert is fabulous. Fab wine list. Almost never too crowded, great kids menu, and easy parking, when you roll out of there.
