The Hale Koa Luau was energetic and entertaining. While main host, Glenn Medeiros, sometimes did "cheese it up" a little bit, I expected nothing less and got into it. I did appreciate the end section where he took time to recognize the armed forces and veterans.

The dancing was pretty good too. While I have been to the bigger luaus like Germain's, I liked that the Hale Koa was in town, within walking distance from our condo. Germain's you have to drive about 1 hour to the other side of the island, as far as I can remember. The dancers were pretty good at the Tahitian "hip shake" dance, which is my personal favorite! I have no idea how they do it....seems like a machine. Hips don't even seem to be connected to the rest of the body. Haha. I digress. The fire show was alright, but the performer did mess up a couple of....painful.....times.

The food was actually pretty good. Here is what we got:

SALADS
- Cucumber and Papaya - Light and fresh
- Seaweed - Very fresh, tasty!
- Lomi Lomi Salmon - I couldn't find any salmon, just tomato
- Fresh Pineapple - Super sweet Hawaiian pineapple!

MAIN COURSE
Kalua Pig - A little bit too salty for my taste
Mahimahi - Very good flavor and fresh
Shoyu Chicken - The skin was soooooo good, but sooo bad for you!
Teriyaki Beef - This was the best meat on the plate!
Fried Rice - Pretty ordinary
Poi - YIKES!!!
Sweet Potato - Great flavor and texture
Banana Fritter - Almost like a dessert! Very sweet!

DESSERT
Coconut Cake - This was pretty ordinary. Nothign special.
Haupia Pudding - More of a jello, I enjoyed it!

Overall, I believe the Hale Koa Luau is a great in-town Luau. It is medium sized, maybe 600 people or so...while others are almost 1200 people. It is convenient because it is within most hotel walking distance. Very entertaining and they pay tribute to those defending our country and give them the respect and recognition they deserve!
