A hidden Gem!! So my husband & I are driving from San Diego, CA to Portland OR with the majority of the trip being on the coast line with some detours & sight seeing thrown in here & there. We find ourselves getting weary and needing a place to stay. As we are usually "Westin" type folks, we were more than a little nervous to find ourselves approaching an area with a huge lack of chain hotels. Through the magic of web surfing we found the Halcyon Inn Bed & Breakfast. We called & spoke with Mary, who was so friendly & accommodating, she seemed like family! She let us know there was a place for us to stay when we arrived, made arrangements of our breakfast the next day, & was happy to accept our little English Bulldog, Baxter!
This place is so cute! Check out the website! The rooms are meticulously clean, the house is warm & inviting, Mar & her husband Ike are the epitome of gracious hosts!
The breakfast? Ummm, how do you say..... WoW!!!!! Delicious! Scrambled eggs with artichoke hearts, thick sliced bacon, homemade home fires..... & homemade fruit smoothies! Fantastic coffee with biscotti, petite pastries..... the works! Mary was so sweet, she even sent us out the door with some fruit for our next long stretch of our drive! If you ever find yourself heading out to the Redwoods.... & you are passing through Eureka, do yourself a favor, give Mary a call & stay at the Halcyon! -

The inn was clean and nice - restored well to the age it was built. The breakfast was excellent but it was wierd being at a small table with people you dont know. I am not shy and enjoy talking to others, but not at 7am while in my pj's (you have to schedule a breakfast time). If you think you are going to have any 'alone' time with your significant other you will be dissapointed. The hostess is always near, in fact my wife and I felt guilty about sleeping in until 9am. We had a gift certifcate for the stay and they only accepted a limited amount per night and made us pay the difference - we really felt nickel and dimed. We would not go there again and don't recommend it to friends. If you are very outgoing from the moment you wake up until your head hits the pillow and you are paying cash, this place will suit you well.
