WOW... I read Amaker L.'s review about her experience at Hair Glamour --what was really shocking is her claim that Tiffany ruined her hair by pressing it... I consider myself a regular (I go every other week to get a shampoo, press, and style), and Tiffany has never burned or caused any other damage to my hair. All my life I've been blessed with kunta kinte type hair (brillo pad hair coarse and thick, and that's the type of hair Amaker L. has as well), but the fact remains because of Tiffany's knowledge my hair has begun to grow, and is very health I may add.
I find it odd that Amaker L. states that Tiffany ruined her hair with a hot comb in June... because the day Amaker L. was in Tiffany's shop getting her hair pressed I was also in Tiff's shop getting pressed at the same time (though it's a one bowl\chair station Tiff has this special way of rotating you in and out to keep the chain going at all times, your out of her shop in a few hours -- but that's a story for another time) and though I left before Amaker L. hair was completed, I remember the left side and the back of her head was completely pressed there wasn't a burnt smell at that time, and she wasn't loosing any hair.
From experience I have suffered from a stylist who have burnt my hair in the past and I won't put his shop on blast, but if the pressing combing is hot enough to burn hair the minute you begin to comb it your hair will start falling out and you will see broken strands of hair everywhere... well at least that's what've I experienced with a pressing comb burning my hair...
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HAIR GLAMOUR!!!Comment from Tiffany P. of Hair Glamour 4/28/2011

I wrote a review, got harassed by a customer, and then my review mysteriously got flagged and taken off. Tiffany BURNT OUT MY HAIR. Used terms such as "i need to lay the mac hand down on your head" and repeatedly told me I had kunte kente hair. Terms that are not used when I go to my AMAZING hair salon less than a mile away from her.
She most likely burnt my hair out while she was video chatting with a COMPLETE STRANGER that she chats with on yahoo. She had her assistant bring over her laptop.
She accused me of lying - when the person who told me my hair was burnt was the hair braider she referred me to.
There are a few women at my current salon that know about her - and they all ran the opposite direction. direct quote from a stranger with a bad experience: "She must make wigs to cover up her customers hair."
Instead of apologizing she accused me of her shotty work - and flags bad reviews, to save herself.
Reviews are here for a reason, and mine is a bad review that I and my hair salon STAND BY.Comment from Tiffany P. of Hair Glamour 2/2/2011

I came to Tiffany after a bad haircut, but remained hopeful. She came through big time and helped me find a style and cut that I not only love, but can reproduce at home.
She was professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable about my hair texture and the best way to maintain the health of my hair. She told me about specific products and natural oils to use to use to address specific issues. She knew more about my half polish/half black hair than any person in Oakland, and gave me excellent pointers.
She also found a way to make sense of a terrible cut someone gave me, and made me look and feel great. Long after the curls she put in were gone, my hair felt and looked amazing.
No one else will be putting a finger on my head. Tiffany knows what she is doing. I highly recommend her.Listed in: My Hood

I wrote Tiffany a bad review and was more than justified in doing so. I have edited it now to this because it's not worth it to me to be personally attacked based on my experience with her.
Yelp is here for people to express their joys and dissatisfaction with businesses -- not for businesses to attack individuals, per Yelp policy. This is not the only negative review I've ever written, but the only time a business owner has personally attacked me or called me names (which she later modified to remove), or have even written a rebuttal. It's actually the first time I've seen a rebuttal on Yelp.
Tiffany has glowing reviews about her talents as a stylist, and I myself was wowed by her reviews and don't doubt her skills as a stylist.
However, I caution anyone from going to a business where the owner would attack a potential customer, not apologize for a mistake that they acknowledge was made, or take any responsibility for the fact that perhaps their communiation with the potential customer, or lack thereof, caused the problem.
Yelp is a small glimpse into the fishbowl. Every dissatisfied customer, just like every happy customer is not going to post a review. -

I finally went back to Tiffany for a haircut.. But, this time I got bold and gave her carte blanche to whack some significant inches off.
You know hair stylists get total hair-boners off that crap..and she did as she sliced away strands of my hair with her brand new sheers/razors..etc.
I have been to Tiffany's a couple times. Last time I was brand new, she didn't know me or anything.. But this time, she did things to make sure I was comfy at all times.
When her high-strung errand guy came in freakin out about somethin, she quickly sent him on his way that I almost felt bad for the guy. Then she made a cool comment to me about how she wanted him to split because she read my last review about how he gave me anxiety. She didn't want me to have to deal with that again.
I thought that was pretty thoughtful of her to do.
I will say Tiff won't put up with your shit..if you're late, she will jokingly give you a lil shit. If you don't show up, she will charge you a cancellation fee as it states on her website and at her salon right near her station (if you've been there, you'd see it). Her schedule is like her paycheck. If someone told you 'sorry, we're canceling and/or switching your payday date" at the last minute, wouldn't you be affected? But she is always professional even when I can tell it's probably very hard to be professional.
I will be moving out of the area, but plan to make trips back to Hair Glamour, as no one can throw down on my hair like she can.
Now I have one of those stylish lil bobs with a buncha cool layers in the back. I feel all sassy & sporty.... and a little like Suri Cruise when my hair is all straight. I'm a lil conflicted because it's really different & short and I feel naked..but I like it & am glad Tiffany stays up on the latest cuts so I can look & feel fabulous!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Nat R.

It has been a while since I have wore my natural hair down. I have been wearing a sewn in weave for almost 3 years and it was time to let my hair flow. My hair has grown so long. Just above my shoulders.
PROS:
I went to Hair Glamor because of the 2 positive reviews on Tiffany P., the owner and hairstylist. She was professional and friendly. She also has a great website too. I like the fact that the shop is small and she is the only hairstylist. No gossip talk going on between other hairstylist.
Tiffany seemed to care about my hair and was informative. I got my hair shampooed, pressed and trimmed for $50. I got a 10% discount by using a coupon from her website. Am glad she was honest and told me I did not need a relaxer but due to exercising at least 5 days a week, I am afraid my hair will sweat out quickly.
CONS:
My appt. was at 330p but my hair did not get shampooed until almost 430p because she had another client ahead of me. I did not get out until like 720p or so. I have been through this at many other black hair salons and though it is the norm, it is still annoying to have to wait.
Big sigh, she failed to straighten out my hair to my satisfaction. My hair instead looked like it was blow dried well instead of pressed. She used a hot comb and a flat iron. So I was disappointed. -

Five stars all the way for the press that Tiffany has given me...and for the continued good service I get there. Everytime I go, Tiffany is prompt, fun to be around and good at what she does.
Which is evidence by the case of whiplash that I'm 2 head shakes away from giving myself. Tiffany pressed my hair like nobody's business and I am getting down shaking my smooth hair...that is when I'm not touching it. Because it is so straight and so silky smooth. It's hard to believe (especially given my hair's natural state) that this isn't a relaxer. But she's good and quick for both weaves and this. She had a lot of work to do last night on my hair and I was out in what I felt was the perfect amount of timeListed in: I look good

Review from Marie B.
I wrote a review some time ago, but feel compelled to do an update since I've had several people ask if I've been to Tiffany in recent months. The answer is YES. Each time I go to Oakland (quarterly), I have Tiffany do SOMETHING! Why? Because she is incredibly talented. Is she an artist? Yes. Are most artists just a wee bit eccentric? Yes. It isn't a stereotype...it just "is". But, never has Tiffany been "crazy" as one reviewer put it. Nor has she been rude. I have never seen her behave badly and many times, I am in her shop for hours ~ just hanging out and chatting while waiting for my daugnter to finish work. It is just that kind of place...like spending time with a girlfriend.
But, I digress. Back to Tiffany's skills ~
I have had her do a weave for me and it was fantastic. She consistently does a fantastic job. I am always more than pleased with her work. As a matter of fact, I have had to ask Tiffany to do corrections that other stylists have made.
As someone who is a mature professional, I do not spend time with service providers who do not offer exceptional service and are not exceptionally skilled. Tiffany is both...

I can think of a few words to describe this salon...professional, magical, warm, comfortable...FABULOUS!!
So, I was in Oakland for a visit. My new weave was doing something funky, so I decided I'd get it cut in an effort to minimize the weird hairline my stylist had created. I made an appointment with OraTiffany's on Grand Ave, but the guy stood me up?! I was walking, I came across Hair Glamour and stopped in. I assumed the stylist would pencil me in for an appointment on the next day (at best), but she was fantastic. Although she had clients in her shop, she worked me in...and worked wonders! She did this whole re shift to my weave and got rid of the funky hairline without raising her scissors! She is a master at this sort of thing!! So much so, that I will seriously consider flying out (from Chicago) to have her do my hair 'from scratch'. If she is this good...remedying someone Else's work, she must be a phenom when she is doing her own thing from start to finish.
I'd highly recommend this salon. Oh, besides being a master...she is incredibly inexpensive!! -

After 27 years of Supercuts and other forms of subpar hair care, I decided I should scope out a proper, local "ethnic" salon that could handle my "ethnic" hair. I found this little shop thanks to Yelp, and I am very happy with the result.
Tiffany is friendly, professional, and thorough with her services, all for a reasonable price (the price list is on her website). I got a clear cellophane treatment (basically a thin, minimally damaging chemical coat that adds shine to hair; color is optional), and I also had her trim and style my hair. She had several clients come in and out, and she multi-tasked with grace, providing due attention to each individual. I would definitely recommend it, "ethnic" hair or not. -

what is there not to love about Tiffany! She's the best at what she does! I think Tiff masters where most stylist fail. 1. Consistency 2. Reasonable prices. 3. Customer service.
Stylists everywhere, please realize that hair care is a commodity and if your service sucks, clients will go elsewhere. It pays to do a good job and for Tiff, this is second nature. Keep up the good work Tiffany!Comment from Tiffany P. of Hair Glamour 2/17/2011

So....I just got my hair done by Tiffany P. today and OH MY GOODNESS!!! I am in love with my hair!!!!!! I am from Los Angeles, been here in Oakland for about 4 years now, and I have natural thick hair - press & curl style Only please!
Tiffany is the best (right next to my original stylist in LA). I am sooo happy to have found her because, I have been burned before (literally burned my hair out!!) by another stylist so, I have been very skeptical of stylist out here claiming they can "press n' curl". The reviews on here made me try her out and the atmosphere of her shop made me relax immediately!
She is very professional, organized, sweet, and very knowledgeable - qualities everyone should look for and RESPECT when it comes to a stylist. She has made a returning client. Check out her website you will not want to try anyone else! -

Love myself some Miss Tiffany. New to Oakland, I absolutely HAD to find the right stylist for my glorious, kinky naps. In perfect harmony, I found Miss Tiffany. She is an eclectic mix of soul, gypsy, artist, and professional. I found her to be warm and focused. Don't let her Gemini fool you--this girl knows hair, in a confident, unpretentious way. And she gives you exactly what you want, without any drama.
I sat in her chair and we briefly discussed my preferences (Now Black women, you know this is seriously a bonus--a stylist who listens AND gives you exactly what you want instead of what SHE wants for you?) and when I stood up from her chair, I realized what a good listener and what a good hair stylist Tiffany is. She talks, laughs, interacts, shares her own life stories, and still finds time to whip up some hair in a highly, stylized way. No spikes? No problem. No trim? No problem. No blow-dry but absolutely wrap my hair (this always gets my vote, I'm old school), no problem. Tiffany will give you what you want. And guess what? When you leave her chair, you realize that you not only got what you wanted, you also got exactly what you needed--Glamour.
Rock on, Sister. See you in two weeks. -

Tiffany did a wonderful job being on time, making me feel welcome in her shop and flat ironing my hair that has lasted for a few weeks! She cut it as well in a cute style, but i think i will have to go back to her to get the cut a little shorter.
She is professional and knows how to properly treat natural hair. I like that she runs a 1-woman shop so that she manages the flow of traffic and all aspects of their hair from the wash to the finished product. She really values her customers and was in the process of planning a customer appreciation event. I will be back soon. -

I recently decided to find a new hair stylist. I searched on line and found Tiffany. I came to her shop and had a consultation. She was absolutely GREAT. I wanted a weave and I told her exactly what I wanted and we talked about the style and the condition that my real hair was in. She gave me her opinions and did not try to over sell me on things I did not need.
Two weeks later I came back and she put the weave in my hair and its been GREAT ever since. She did exactly what I asked for. Its very hard to find a black hair stylist that does it the way you want it. Tiffany is that stylist. I am so pleased with my weave.
I have also gone back to see her to get it washed and for the first time, my head is not itching after a week of washing. She REALLY REALLY knows what she is doing. Her shop is very cute and "DRAMA FREE".
