I went to Kacie for the first time. My hair was half way down my back and I hadn't had a cut in 6 months. I asked her to please give me a new look, and I gave her total freedom to choose, as long as it wasn't above the shoulders.
It's the best haircut I've ever gotten! Not exaggerating, other hairstylists tell me they love my haircut. And the color - she did a combo of low and highlights which I have had done in the past but she's definitely mastered it. My color looks so natural and so beautiful at the same time.
I will go back.
I found this place on the internet because I was looking stylists that specialized with cuts and color that were trendy/edgy. Plus, I wasn't pleased with the way my hair was cut at Supercuts in Chula Vista and HDOF had a coupon for first-time customers. I had never gone to a salon for cut & color. Much less, I never trusted myself to color my own hair. I felt like I couldn't go wrong with stylists and colorists who were Vidal Sassoon-trained.
I've been going to HDOF for over 2 years now and I completely trust them with my hair. I go to Natalie for my color and Sarah V. for my styling/cut. I've constantly gotten complements on my hair ever since I started going to them for my hair needs. Not to mention my hair has gotten so much healthier ever since I started using Enjoy/Bumble and Bumble hair products. My hair had been long for a few years but it was Sarah who helped me make the drastic move to go short (like every other girl and their mom nowadays).
Don't be afraid to go for that free consultation if you're a first-time customer. My consultation with Natalie about my first-time hair color made me feel better and a lot less afraid of a potentially horrific salon experience.
I love the atmosphere and they keep me coming back. Definitely a loyal customer.
I dig this place, the location (was in walking distance of my place till I moved), the art on the wall and the openess. Although if Sherron wasn't there then I would just go to wherever she was working. She is one of the top stylists I have ever had, I might dare say no 1, yeah I think that is right, no 1. She is very friendly, is good with helping me pick a color that will work with me and her cuts always flatter my face shape.
I like this salon because they use Bumble and Bumble and I am quite a shampoo snob. They also give amazing scalp massages.
Price is general for this type of salon, when I say this type I mean a good one, this isn't a Supercuts, be prepared to shell out about $50 for a cut, and a tip on top of that, but its worth it. I don't have to cut my hair religiously and it still looks good.
Although book in advance if you like the stylist you went to, Sherron seems to be always booked a month in advance, I now know to be vigilant about setting color appointments. The receptionist is very patient when I call asking about available times, since I just go through the dates I have available and she says yes or no, but I generally have to list off almost 8 days till I find an available time spot.
Here are the two names you need to know: Sarah (cut) and Natalie (color). I'll say it again for those of you who need to see it twice to know how serious I am. I love Sarah and Natalie. So here's the dealio: my long, curly, impossible to cut hair had to go. Now, I've had my long hair since I was 4 years old. It had become a trademark of sorts. But I was over it. Over trying to find a stylist in San Diego who could cut curly hair. Over the complete evolution to do anything with it in the morning...and ending up in a pony tail or a hair clip at the end (or sometimes beginning) of the day. Over the whole look.
Enter Yelp. Thank you Yelpers! You shined the beacon of hope right onto HDOF's profile and Sarah's and Natalie's name just for me! I scored a HDOF coupon on their site and booked my appointment, which was super easy. Their front desk gals are great. I was greeted promptly and offered my choice of beverages, which I consumed at least 3 of during the course of my stay at HDOF. Sarah absolutely took her time with me...understanding how drastic a change I was going for (long hair to a pixie) and really analyzing my hair, face shape, etc. Plus, I could tell she was a perfectionist, which is RIGHT up my alley. Her stellar performance creating my new pixie cut was nothing less than amazing. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that for the first time in my life I LOVE MY HAIR! It's so friggin' awesome. When you factor in the smokin' chocolate/espresso hair color that Natalie did for me, the whole thing just couldn't get any better. They didn't try and sell the crap out of products (even though having a new do could have easily merited it) and I just felt the whole experience was personal, easy going, and the positive experience I always hoped it would be. I will be back...again and again.
First off, I'm the type who skips a hair cut or two and only goes when it's absolutely necessary. I don't have a ton of money (two words: college student) to spend on a hair cut that I may or may not like. With that said, I love my haircut! HDOF have wonderful hair stylists! I believe I had.. Tori? She gave me an awesome head message, shampoo, haircut, and style for $50. Definitely worth going at least once to try yourself :)
Nicole is awesome. Best head massage I think I have ever had. Good haircut too. She made some subtle changes to my style that look really good and swing really well. I will absolutely go back for more!
Update: I just got yet another awesome haircut here. Even when I'm having a bad hair day, his magic hides it!! My hair is so healthy and happy that some girl from high school liked my Facebook pics so much that she wrote me to find out what shampoo I use.
High school girl, it's not the shampoo- it's James!!!
James rocks. To date, the only person I have genuinely trusted with my hair is my mom, and even she deserves a day off now and then.
My sister recommended James to me. The fact that he was able to fix her up after she had a haircut (from another salon) that she alleged made her look like an AWOL member of the Jets (the 80s sibling band, not the West Side Story gang, not the sports team). So I trusted Lil Sis, and off I went.
A transformation happened! I went from just getting a trim to being that girl who loves her hair and looks at it in the mirror and then makes other people comment on it. (Obnoxious, but fun). My hair feels great and it grows out well. 2 for 2 cuts have been awesome. Yay James. For bonus points, check out his gorgeous photography hanging on the walls. People shouldn't get to be this talented.

After my last hair stylist relocated, I needed to find someone pronto. A quick check on Yelp recommended Hairdrezzers as a hip yet reasonably affordable place. I wasn't disappointed! I made an appointment with Britney as she is advertised on their site as a blonde color specialist and printed out a $25 off coupon from their website for first time customers. Let me tell you that she did such an amazing job on my cut and highlights that I couldn't bring myself to even redeem it -- I tossed it in the trash when I got home! She has a sweet down-to-earth personality that is refreshing to be around. Also, as a service to her clients she will trim your bangs for free. Just call the salon and they will get you in the same day. I've already taken advantage of this perk and am happy to say that I've found a new hair heaven at Hairdrezzers on Fire!
I recommend James. He was a great stylist. I appreciate how my hair cut actually looks like something new, fresh and clean. He is pretty talented with a pair of scissors. I explained that I'm the type of person who might go 6months + before getting my butt back into the salon. His cut was great and reflected my personal hair needs...low maintenance!
It's been a little while since he cut my hair and my mirror said my attempts at fixing my hair this morning were futile, thus I am booking a new appointment right now and remembered to write this review. =)
i had two cuts here, and while both were fine, i really wanted to be blown away. james will make you feel beautiful with all his charm but then won't ever stop texting you to beg for more appointments. the stylist everyone raves about (quinn, i think) is never available (i have asked for her every time and always hear that her next appointment is months away).
now i see pam at rinse salon for better AND cheaper cuts.
Ok so I went there based on the yelp review.
I already went to a first hair dresser in San Diego (i arrived 1 year ago) and it was absolutely not good as the reviews let me hope.
But this time it is different.
The salon itself is ok... But the people are just super nice and super professional.
Nicole who ve taken care of me was really nice and really detail oriented. She asked what I want, how I usually put my hair, etc... She spent 2 hours on my hair - which is so nice. And the results was great. I have curly - heavy hair and for the first time in my life, the results was even better after a shampoo. INCREDIBLE.
It s hard to find a good hair dresser.... but now I have mine!
I'm one of those people that is ridiculously picky about who comes near my hair with a pair of scissors, and up until about a week ago I would get my hair cut by the same lady whenever I visited my fam up in norcal...
Anyways I REALLY needed a cut, so I did some research and found hair drezzers on fire.
The salon is full of friendly people, and Sarah definitely impressed me by cutting my hair exactly as I envisioned it :) I would recommend this place to anyone who is serious about getting an amazing cut, you won't be disappointed
Sarah V. knows how to rock stubbornly flat, stick-straight Asian hair into hair-goddess/ shampoo-ad worthy mode. I know becuse she turned my long, thick, PLAIN hair into awesome, natural-looking, beachy waves that now elicit compliments from random strangers!
And I know Sarah's magic doesn't stop with me- I was just having drinks with another friend who got her hair did with Sarah (it's a modern, short 'do- as different from my hairstyle as you can get), and the waitress asked HER where she got her hair done, too!
So. Save yourself the time you'd spend to find out where some stranger with fabulous hair got did, and just book Sarah the next time you get the urge to be mah-velous!
PS: She's a great person too- you'll love her: friendly, down-to-earth, as well as a capable, skilled hair arteest. She even spot-permed my hair a week later- no charge (and no attitude, whatsoever!)- after a few curls were defeated by hair that just did not want to stay wavy. I've had my hair done with folks who easily charge twice as much for half the quality, and none of the sincerely friendly service you'll find with Sarah.
I've been here twice with two different stylists and yet I always feel like a rock star after my cut! Definitely worth the price!
Good lord, I look fantastic! Seriously, my hair looks so incredible that I had trouble leaving the mirrors in the salon.
I had my hair done for the second time by Sandi (owner and color specialist) and I must say that she does GREAT work. For round one I walked in with high hopes and two inch roots; somehow Sandi managed to make my hair all the same vibrant red without any bleach. Wow. For round two, I decided to go a little more "PB" and get some blonde highlights. Double wow.
Sandi runs a wonderful local business which deserves every one of these five stars. I would recommend Hair Drezzers to ANYONE, be it my PB friends, BF, or grandma. I am absolutely certain Sandi's stylists would do a great job with anyone who walked in right off the street. Check it out, I promise you won't leave disappointed.
I moved to SD and my hair just couldn't take the humidity. I chopped off 6 inches of length and it took her 3 hours!
It looked fine when i left but then the next morning I tried to fix it and i noticed it was uneven.
I ended up just waiting until I went back to Norcal to my regular hair dresser and she fixed it.
OVERPRICED!
Another haircut, and still 5 stars. So nothing new really, I just thought it was worth noting that I'm still happy after a second cut from Jen.
Also, their bathroom has over 30 mirrors. I like looking at myself and all, but watching myself pee is too much.

I brought in two photos of what I imagined I wanted my hair to look like if you morphed the two together, and I got exactly what I was picturing. It's rare you get exactly what you ask for when you get your haircut by someone new!
The shop is cute, clean, and the staff is nice. I made an appointment and was placed with Shearon (sp?), she did a great job. I asked if she could recommend a place to get my brows waxed and she got me in with Sandy who did a fabulous job. I was excited to find that they use the turquoise colored wax rather than the old school yellow one. The yellow one always causes skin irritation with me.
I'm glad I came here and will be coming back.
Sonny one of the owners here used to cut my hair and he too is a master with all things hair related and can style like no tomorrow!
The only down sides are how far the salon is and you have to schedule nearly a month in advance because he is really that sought after!
If you are the least bit unhappy with your hair do yourself a favor and come here!
This place is soo cool! It totally deserves its five star average. As soon as you walk in you will notice the very awesome decor. The salon has a funky, hip atmosphere but everyone working there, from the receptionists to the stylists, are really nice and helpful, unlike a lot of "trendy" places. Britney cut my hair and Lisa highlighted it. Both of them really listened to what I wanted and did a great job delivering exactly what I asked for. I have very wavy hair that can be hard to deal with but they helped me by giving me product suggestions and tips for how to style my hair. The prices here are pretty comparable to other salons and well worth every dollar!
Tip: There's a new client coupon on their website under the "menu" section.
I can honestly say, I have not had a haircut this good in a long, long while.
Backstory: I was a man desperate for a haircut. Day before a wedding, and my shag was beginning to impede my vision, and I was concerned my status as the +1 might be in jeopardy if I didn't do something about my dew.
I run by this place on my usual runs and it says "Walk-ins Welcome," so in I went. Got an appointment with Janna setup in half an hour and just chilled.
Told her I just wanted it cleaned up, but leave it long on the top. So off we went for what I expected to be the normal, wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am shampoo, but what I got instead was amazing. A scalp and neck message of the Gods. By the end I was completely relaxed, and in a state of Zen. Money.
She did a great job evening out the sides and texturing my hair (I had to have this term explained to me), and it looked great. She also used a straight edged razor to clean up the scruff on my neck and I haven't felt that smooth back there in forever. I feel so aerodynamic now, all I want to do is stick my head out the window when I drive.
Bottomline: I paid 35 bones for a haircut. As a guy, I think it's a bit much, but for the quality of the cut and that massage, hands down a great deal. As long as she stays, I think Janna will be cutting my hair.
I'll start off by saying that I'm not picky, when it comes to hair, but I know exactly what I want. I normally dye my own hair but I wanted something that I couldn't do myself (and didn't trust my friends to do) so I got on Yelp to try to find a salon that received good reviews. I found HDOF and figured I'd give it a shot, so I called and told the receptionist what I wanted and she set me up with Lisa.
I went to HDOF a few days later, spoke with Lisa about what I wanted, and she made it happen! Lisa was extremely nice, professional, and even helped trim my hair (for no extra charge) since it made the hair color look more obvious. I loved loved loved what she did to my hair, and even got tons of compliments from a lot of people, so hopefully I gave Lisa a few more clients.
Fast forward a few months, and I decided to look into HDOF to get my hair cut. I normally go to a girl from a different salon, but I wanted something that was going to be kind of difficult (an emo inspired 'do) and wasn't sure if my hair girl would do an awesome job. I called HDOF and told the receptionist what I wanted. She asked if I had a stylist in mind, but I didn't, so she set me up with Nicole. I was a little worried because she hadn't been mentioned on Yelp, and HDOF's website made it seem like she was new. I don't get bent about my hair, but having a new person cut my hair made me think twice. In the end I decided to just roll with it and see what happened.
I went to HDOF today, met with Nicole, and found out that she wasn't new.. the website just made it seem that way. Long story short, I showed Nicole a picture of what I wanted and an hour and a half later I had it! I was PERFECT! She didn't even have to look at the picture, after I showed it to her in the beginning. Now my hair is super rad, and I couldn't be happier. Nicole is an awesome stylist, and I liked that she told me what she was using to style my hair but didn't attempt to push it on me. She also told me how I could style it so that it looked exactly like the picture I brought in. I totally recommend Nicole for a stylist and Lisa for a colorist.

I have had major salon phobia for a couple of years due to a few incredibly horrific experiences, but it needed to happen, I needed a cut. I ended up in Quinn's chair at HDOF. Bless her heart, she listened to me go on and on about my paranoia and how I really didn't want her to cut it all off even if she knew that would be best. A basic request that was actually honored! Not only did she listen to me, but my hair came out better than I could have possibly imagined. Fabulous experience I am definitely going back to Quinn.
Bonus:everyone is really nice and the vibe is great.
I really liked this place. I got Nicole and I had messed up hair from going to Paul Mitchell.. and she totally fixed it. She does great highlights and cuts. Love it!
Another great Normal Heights business. I enjoy going to this very cool salon. The staff is always congenial and helpful.
I've had three haircuts with James and each time it gets better. He really listens with an open mind and proceeds to do his best to make it right. I like going to this close-to-home salon because it's fun and young and comfy even for us Boomers. I have already recommended James to friends.
go. to. Quinn.
that woman is a magic-maker.
i found a picture of a rad hairstyle on the HDOF site. i described it to her, and she went and found the original picture. she suggested taking my under-layers VERY short (like one-inch-short!) and made sure i knew what i was getting myself into before she did it. the result is the best haircut i have every had in my entire life. Quinn is funny, cute, and easy to talk to. two months later, my hair still looks phenomenal. i have a found a salon to call home.
I'm reviewing my first time to H.O.F., and pending my next appointment in 8 weeks, it could get a 5th star. I'm usually really picky about where I get my hair cut. I'll research, ask for suggestions, and go once, but getting me to return and consider a place my "usual" place, takes some serious impressing. Since leaving San Francisco 3 years ago, I've had a hard time finding a salon to do right by my hair... But I think I found one! And it's only 5 minutes from where I live!
My appointment was with Janna, and she asked me what I wanted. I told her it was either I could go with the same old cut I've had the past few years, or I could go drastically short (similar to her hair length and style). So I asked her input. In the end, I came out with shorter hair, but definitely excited about the change. And that scalp massage Janna gave me while washing my hair was very relaxing. I only wish I could blowdry and straighten my hair the same way she did, because I can't seem to get my cowlicks to curl in the way she did. I'll make sure to ask next time.
james did my hair, and all in all, he did a good job. It was a little bit too short, but pretty good. Cool place, and the staff was friendly, but for I think 55$ for a mens haircut, it just was more like okay than great.
For this price I'd expect what I got when I recently had my haircut in temecula (yes insanely far, family lives there), at kromatic hair. For 30$ I got a very cold amstel light before my cut, a neck massage with oils, hot towel on my face while my conditioner set in with aromatherapy stuff in it, and one amazing hair cut! Now this place must be a diamond in the rough, like big time, but for basically 60$ for a cut, just not good enough to go back.
Janna did a wonderful job on my hair! I just moved here from Boston and was looking for a way to help acclimate to my new surroundings. What better way to do that then by chopping my nearly waist-length hair? She hardly needed direction from me, just a vague idea and she went with it.
She suggested braiding it and chopping it so that I could donate it, which was a great idea. Then took me over to the sink and washed my hair (my favorite part of any salon experience) and gently massaged the back of my neck and my hair line as she went. Amazing!
She then blew dry and flat-ironed my hair into a style that framed my face wonderfully. Gave me some tips on styling it and what product to use.
The salon has an awesome music rotation going. It's spacious and trendy and the entire staff is very friendly. And my cut was very inexpensive for the services offered. In Boston, a cut like this on Newbury Street would've been much more expensive. Makes me glad I live only a couple of blocks down the road!
I had a great experience at Hair Drezzers on Fire. I was set up with an appointment with Jen. I haven't cut my hair in awhile, and it was long overdue. I didn't want anything dramatic; just a trim, and a some reshaping to my hair. She gave me exactly what I asked for in the cut. And as far as color went, I let her know I was open to anything. She evened out the color for me, and it looks mucho better! She was really easy to talk to, and offered me a beverage to sip on. Each time I finished a batch of magazines, she replenished them with new ones =)
And I love the atmosphere of the salon; it's fun and funky at the same time.
They have a special which you can find online for $25 off cut & color for first time clients. Try it out!
Overall, it was a great experience, and I would love to return again.
Thanks Jen!
The hairdresser of said event below offered me a new cut on the house. That is just so sweet and professional especially since via computer you can always just choose to not do that at all. Rather, SHE HAS extended her services again. I don't doubt that this place rocks so I'm upping it a star.

I've been going to Jennifer Lemieux for almost 6 years, and I consider her like a little sister to me. Jen and I first met at the Service Station Salon in Kensington, and she stayed aboard when it was converted into Diesel. She was always on time for me, never rushed, just opinionated enough, and always delivered on her promises. It's funny to think that I had been through about 5 different hairstylists in 5 years prior to Jen!
I was sad to hear that she was moving away from Kensington across the bridge to Normal Heights, but that sadness turned to pure joy when I saw her new digs. This salon is totally different from Diesel and it has a much more comfortable vibe. Everyone seems to really like each other, and it doesn't seem like some big competition to see who can out-dress each other.
Try HDOF and specifically Jen ... you won't regret it!
I am sooooo happy with my haircut. Sherron did a fabulous job and I will for sure be going back to her, actually I already booked my appointment for color!!! She is friendly and she did a really great job. I highly recommend this salon!!!!
Since Hasheem at Jet Rhys jacked up his prices and loves to thin out hair so much that left me looking like I am a going through chemotherapy.,I decided I wanted to try another salon I made an appointment with Brittney for a hair cut. I got an appointment with her the next week. The parking is kind of strange; I wasn't able to find parking on the street. but I found a space near a school/church.
I was greeted by the receptionist as well as other hair stylists/colorists. The people are very nice and friendly. I admit I did have to wait a bit but it was worth it. Brittney is extremely nice and she does what you want. I've been to so many hair stylists and paid over $100 one time, and she beats them all, maybe because she's a damn good listener. Just because I have thick hair, doesn't mean it has to be thinned out. I like my thick hair and wanted to keep it thick yet managable to style. I'm picky about my hair and she can relate to that. She made my hair cut experience great. She knew that I wanted to grow out my hair and gave me a trim and just added more shape and bangs. I told her I style my hair wavy, and she taught me how to wave my hair with a straightner.
While she was cutting my hair, she kept talking to me about what she was doing. She is easy-going and great to talk to [even as a friend]. They use bumble and bumble products, my favorite. I was actually surprised when i paid; I was expecting to pay $55-$70, but I only paid $45, and gave her a good tip.
I recommend Brittney. I will definitely come back again.
I found them on YELP and thank you!
James was awesome. i was in from out of town, gave him a general Idea of what I wanted my hair to look like for the wedding I was attending and did more than I could have asked for with it.
The place is relaxing and they don't try to sell you on a million things. They really are a place that works for you and for that, I give them and James 5 stars!
I used to have a great stylist in Sacramento and haven't had a really good cut since I left there. Been to MJ's, Rinse, Disconnected, Walter Todd, etc... None of them terrible, just kinda blah.
Until today!!!
James at hair drezzers on fire got it done. Great cut, I feel very very good.
I highly recommend this place, my wife is going to make an appt this week.
go james go!
I was so happy with the styling of my most recent hair cut a la James that I actually was sad to wash it the next day. The only other time in my life I didn't want to wash my hair was in the 90s and involved Manic Panic, knowing that when I washed the blue dye it would slowly become green. By the way, no one looks good with green hair.

I love Quinn.
I wandered into this place when I first moved into the neighborhood, and it was the best choice I ever made. Quinn is sweet, cute and makes you feel at home. The best part though, she does an amazing job.
All the stylists at Hair Drezzers on Fire are super trendy and have great hair. Let me say though, I don't want that super trendy, cool hair, it's not me. That is what is perfect about Quinn; she does what is right for me. She knows what will work for me, and considers what I want and need. (Which mean wash, dry and go!)
She also does great color. I only get my hair colored a few times a year just to bring my hair back to my more natural color after being faded from the San Diego sun. She does a great job, pretty color with just a couple highlights to give dimension. Again perfect for me!
Quinn is young, but she is very talented and I trust her completely. I am sure all the stylists are great, just read the reviews! I say - Go to Quinn before her prices get too high, because she deserves to get paid top dollar, and I am sure someday she will.
Well, what can I say about Hair Drezzers on Fire except that it is truly the best salon in San Diego. I've been following Sonny Zizzo ever since his days at Jet Rhys in Hillcrest. It was there when he told me of his dream to open up his own salon one day. After following him to Diesel in Kensington, I finally got the call from him that he and his wife, Sandi, finally opened their own place in Normal Heights. I knew it was going to be great, but I honestly didn't know it was going to be the sensation that it is today.
Hair Drezzers on Fire (a name that Sonny told me about long ago) is a gem. Sonny and Sandy built the space from the ground up; pouring their own sweat into scrubbing, building, painting every detail. Their passion for constructing the best space that they could is also evident in their selection for only the best stylists and colorists in San Diego. I trust every member or the HDoF team. Not only are they all well trained, but they are all talented, courteous and entertaining.
Sonny has been my "go to" guy for what seems like an eternity, but because the number of his clientele has risen so much, it got to a point where I was waiting too long for a scheduled appointment. Because I am a fan of relatively instant gratification, I asked Sonny who I should see since it was so hard to book with him. Without hesitation, he pointed me to Quinn. Lovely, hilarious Quinn.
I met Quinn long ago when she was just out of school and not yet a full-blown stylist. I have to admit, at first I was a bit wary of scheduling with her because I knew that she hadn't been cutting hair long. Boy, was I wrong. I have been going to Quinn for over a year (perhaps longer...time just sort of melds together). I've gone from short to long and long to short. Her consultations are always spot on. Most of the time I just tell her to do whatever she wants, and every time I'm more than pleased. I trust her completely. She cracks me up and even though I only see her once every 8 weeks, we chat without missing a beat. When I walk around town and friends and strangers alike approach me to comment on how much they like my hair, I am proud to say that I get it done by Quinn. With that said, visit Hair Drezzers on Fire, schedule an appointment and get a cut and color. You won't be sorry.
Shout out to my gal Sherron...I love the cut! I just came in with a somewhat awkward bowl-cut bob, and left with a choppy, gorgeous shag. I can air-dry it, style it, whatever. My guy really likes it too- I think it's his favorite so far :)
Also- for anyone looking for subtle, natural highlights, Sherron is your girl. I have medium-blonde hair naturally and she wove in some caramel/gold highlights in tiny pieces, and they are perfect, and do not scream "I live in Pacific Beach."
P.S. I can't usually fork over a barrel of cash for my hair, and I have to say that HDOF offers great value- well priced and high quality!
