25 reviews for Hair Day
Got my wedding hair/make up here at Hair day in 2004 when Jeff used to work there. I liked my make-up by jessica but hated my hair on the wedding day. Style was okay but I had an outdoor ceremony and Jeff didn't put enough hairspray (even though I asked him to over and over again) to last even a few hours. It was truly depressing and even until this day, I grimace every time I see my bangs out of place in every single one of my wedding pictures.
Got hair cut and color from Angela (owner or salon head) once. Cut was okay, hair color was perfect but not even. Ended up walking out with uneven streaks of black and brown. Overall color was really nice, it just wasn't even. It wasn't bad enough to where I went back to have it fixed, but I stayed away from her as well after this experience.
Another huge drawback of Angela is her somewhat cocky mannerism. She speaks to her clients as if they're all younger than her (in Korean) when I'm a mother of two children. I don't like to be talked down upon in that manner when I'm paying her +$200 for services. I don't think she does it to be offensive but regardless, I AM her client who is paying her large sums of money.
Overall, this place depends on your stylist. Just stay away from Angela because she is overpriced and not as good as many claim.
I had my wedding make-up done by Jessica Lee and my hair done by Lucy. When I had my trial make-up done, I wasn't 100% sure about it but on our wedding day, my make-up and hair came out just amazing.
My mom, mother-in-law and my MOH got theirs done as well and they all looked so beautiful. My make-up was very natural and my eyes popped. Everyone told me how good my make-up looked and it lasted entire day. I only had to do a couple of touch-ups and that was it.
My hair was elegant and Lucy did it exactly the way I wanted, well, actually even better. When she put my tiara on my hair, I started crying. I was amazed how fast they worked. You can tell how professional they are. I never looked so good and wished I looked that good every day.
It's definitely a Korean-style beauty salon, so you'll probably feel like you're in a bridal factory. (I wouldn't make an appt. on Saturday morning.) It can also look pretty crazy with all the brides with their veils on running around but it's not that bad. It was actually pretty fun watching everyone. There were probably 6-8 brides and many BM's to get ready at the same time. I had a small wedding party so they actually got us ready faster than other brides who had bigger wedding party.
It might sound a little pricey, especially because the make-up artist doesn't come to your location. You and your wedding party have to go to their beauty salon but it was worth every penny!
Although primarily and Asian ( Korean) place, my stylist rocks!
On a more serious note, both men/women are accepted here, they provide wash before and after the cut, plus style..and for men, a hair cut is about $25, which is crazy cheap for the service.
In regards to my stylist - Julianne. She speaks English perfectly and some of the other stylists are bilingual as well, however the majority are most familiar with Korean.
Jessica Lee is THE makeup artist for every Asian girl in the world!!
Her website has proof of all the gorgeous makeovers she's done. http://www.jessicamake...
She's got a great resume, worked with many soap stars in Korea.
She is the only one I trust.
She taught me how to do my makeup.
She explained the architecture of enhancing your face with eyebrows! (This is CRUCIAL Asian ladies! Admit that you need to draw your faint/short eyebrows!)
She also did my friend's makeup for her wedding and boy did she truly make her over!
She's very reasonably priced, and she met Jackie Chan! lol
I went last week to Lucy Myoung, based on good recommendations, to get a cut that required 15 inches of my hair cut off. In short, I went to Hair Day expecting a transformation at an affordable price. Thankfully, I left feeling like a completely different person.
I brought in several pictures of the pixie cut and color that I wanted. She noticed immediately how curly my hair was, and told me her honest opinions and made many suggestions. She told me what I needed to do in order to make the haircut look good, and she would take care of the rest. She worked with my hair and tweaked it so that I was happy and it looked amazing. I got all my hair chopped off, got a perm so that my hair would "flip" out for the messy look I wanted, and had highlights all under $200. including tip. The price was worth it for the fantastic haircut. It was hard to get used to at first, since it was so different, but ever since then people have been telling me how amazing my hair looks and where I've got it from. I am very pleased with this dramatic change and how Lucy at Hair Day handled it.
Even if you don't speak Korean, don't hesitate to tell them what you want and if you are unsure of what they are doing, ask them. I was very confused with a lot of stuff Lucy was doing with my hair, but she was patient and explained everything to me and she let me interject while she was cutting/perming/highlighting the hair. When I was scared of how bright the highlights would be, she went a notch down so that I wouldn't be so uneasy. This should be a rule of thumb when you go to any salon! So always ask and work with your hairstylist, since it will only work in your favor at Hair Day!
DO NOT go here. If you do, DO NOT let a girl named Tiffany cut your hair. She's the quiet one without any style in her own long, straight hair. I should've known that stylists with one-length boring hair would only do the same to your hair! I should've gone with Yuri like someone else told me--I heard she's a wonder with scissors.
Tiffany was very slow to snip pieces off, which I should've taken as inexperience instead of care. After maybe an hour, I couldn't see any change in my style! I had previously cut it in Japan 3 months ago, and it had kept pretty well. But it was time for a new do, and I wanted something fresh and different. If I wanted my hair to look exactly the same, I wouldn't have come to a salon in the first place, right?
My boyfriend examined the cut and pointed out that it was very similar to my previous style, even though I had showed her pictures of different styles from magazines. I brought this to her attention, but she kept saying "no, no, it's cute" in her limited English (I don't speak Korean). It's cute because my STYLIST IN JAPAN had done a good job! I wasn't gonna pay $35 for a mere trim. After I asked her if I could make changes, she said to wait until she was done with her next appointment.
While I waited in their sitting area (by the way, no one had offered me any tea or magazines or anything from the very start of the visit), the owner came by periodically to compliment me on my "new" and "cute" style, presumably to convince me to pay them and be on my way. I told them I was waiting for Tiffany to be finished, but they kept trying to make me leave. They didn't seem to be concerned with customer satisfaction or anything.
After Tiffany came back, she, the owner, and another stylist proceeded to talk heatedly to each other in Korean, and then THEY GOT MAD AT ME like it was my fault that she couldn't cut my hair right in the first place. I found myself apologizing her so that she didn't botch my hair in vengeance, even though it should've been her apologizing me! The owner said to me, "You better be sure of the style, because you can't change it again" and they were all very rude and unaccommodating. I started getting nervous and was considering just paying and leaving, but I really wanted her to fix my hair into a new style because the "cut" she gave me wasn't worth it at all.
After getting me into the chair again, Tiffany, obviously annoyed that she had to do this another time (hey, it was your mistake, not mine!), started hacking off random sections of my hair. I had showed her the picture again, a short pixie-like cut with many little layers to lighten the load of my hair, which normally has a lot of volume even though it's soft and straight. She did this quickly for maybe 15 minutes, a fake smile plastered on her face, but I could tell by the way she was tugging my head to this side and that side that she was mad.
At the end, I looked into the mirror and was shocked. She made me look like a boy (my previous cut in Japan had been pretty flattering and feminine), and the way my hair fell on my face made my face look rounded even though my face isn't round. I couldn't have had a more unflattering chin-length cut. Pieces were sticking out here and there, the layers had no shape, and it was uneven... a really amateurish job.
I ended up paying because I didn't have the heart to go for a third round (I probably would've ended up bald), but I AM EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED with both the skill and service of my stylist. Again, her name is TIFFANY. If you see her at Hair Day, beware.
I still tipped her, hoping that good karma would force her to change her ways. I regretted it immediately afterward. WHY IN THE WORLD DID I TIP SUCH A HACK JOB STYLIST?! She shouldn't have been allowed to graduate cosmetology school.
Hills Beauty, Kim Sunyoung and HAIR DAY are the Big 3s in k-town, Los Angeles. I've been to Hills and Hair Day many times to capture brides' "Getting Ready" images. Hair Day is a popular salon chosen by many brides. It's little smaller than Hills though, but looks like they have everything. I've heard that many brides were happy with their hair & make-up here at Hair Day. I hope you find my review and photos useful. Thanks, ladies~
Great PRice for exxtremly good quality hair cut.
The girl Juliane is fantastic at what she does. She textured and cut my entire hair without trimmers and smoother out my entire head with scissors. Something not a lot of people do anymore. I truly respect that now a days.
For 25 bones you get a damn great hair cut. Although there is one thing. They give you a 1 size fits all jacket thing but it really isn't. Esp if you fit XL hahahaha
I hadn't cut my hair in over 2 months so it was getting to that emo point and it just wasn't working for me. I arrived at Hair Day's costco sized parking lot which in the back and arrived at the counter at the entrance to what looked like a hair mini mall, about 30 korean girls a few guys and a lot of cutting, wifi computers, and snacks. So enough blah blah here's the skinny:
men's hair cut: 25 (wash and shampoo before and after) with tip $30
stylists: cute, (for the most part) friendly, and korean (as in some don't speak english, as was the case for mine) *mori jalkeh jala jooseh yo....
The service is great and the stylist i was with Nicole (mid aged 30 early 40) was experienced and friendly tho her English wasn't that great but that's ok cause the cut was great. We actually experimented with a few styles before going short. Great atmosphere, clean, newish, professional, friendly, and cool korean music.
Definitely hit or miss with this place. I was not pleased with my haircut as they cut it way too short, but my friends have had some good stories. Price, if i remember correctly, is $35 dollars for a typical men's hair cut. About $40 total after tip.
I have not gone back since, but I do feel like this is a good place if you are able to speak Korean, because that will allow you to express what you want better.
So this Chinese guy walks into this Korean hair salon.
No, this isn't the start of a joke, because finding a person who can cut your hair well is no laughing matter. I feel comfortable in recommending Christine because her work is always consistent and I always leave lookin' good. Of course, in my case, she's got a lot to work with, so I guess she can't take all the credit.
$25/cut and shampoos (one shampoo before the cut, and one after) plus I usually tip her $10 and the lady who washes my hair $5. They also style you before you leave so you're ready to rock--or whatever you do when you're lookin' good.
And the Korean stylist said: "That WAS the happy ending."
Bahdumbump. I'm here all week, folks. Don't forget to take care of your waitresses, because they took care of you.
*This review is based on a phone conversation. I never made it here*
After reading all these reviews I was like, maybe I should get a cheaper haircut, too! The hairstylist I go to is pretty expensive - I always end up spending over $300 (though I do get a lot of things done like straightening, coloring, cutting). I thought.. maybe I should try out one of these other places.
I called Hairday to make an appointment for today (monday) at 5:30pm.
the good part? they answered the phone and asked me who I wanted. I said I was new. At this point, most businesses who care about holding on to new customers may have been nice enough to take down my name but all she said was, "okay, 5:30pm. Haircut." Right...
Before I could ask if she needed my name, she hung up on me.
Hmmm...this left a bad taste in my mouth so I ended up calling my old hairstylist. At this point I preferred paying a bit more ($45 for haircut only) and traveling a bit further to get better service from someone who knows and cares about my hair. So I can't really review this place based on the service they provided.
sorry, hairday. maybe next time.
My friend Debbie is my guide to All Things Korean and All Things Beauty. So of course, I'd consult her to find out where to get my haircut. You see, for the longest time, I'd gone to Frederic Fekkai. While I loved my stylist, stellar service and quintessential LA scene (let's see, on one trip, I saw the Playboy bunnies and Sigourney Weaver getting coiffed.. while I was getting a blow out for my 10 year high school reunion.. go figure), I decided one year to put a spending freeze, or rather, chill, on my beauty budget.
Enter Hair Day.
First of all, my Korean sucks. When I do speak it, it sounds like my Spanish, well, and like my English, too. You know, heavy on, like the Valley Girl accent. And Hair Day serves an almost exclusively Korean clientele and has a full on Korean staff. But I decided to go anyway. And am so happy I did. For $30, Lucy cuts my hair efficiently -- no fuss, no muss. There's at least some rigmarole to actually get to the point of the haircut, ie, enlisting a Korean & English speaking person to take down my appointment and figure out how I want my hair styled. But I'm always happy with what I get.
I think Korean stylists get it. That is, they get that all you want is to look prettier.
Disclaimer: I don't know how well they please the female population. Never asked around to find out any details... BUT it seems to be very popular among Korean chicks.
So being a Korean American male living in Los Angeles, I am living testimony of the difficulty in finding a hairstylist expert in my type of hair (straight and Asian). Unless you want to settle for a mediocre $10 haircut in the nearest barbershop (which is absolutely fine for those who like their hair simple and homogeneous to the growing Korean population), think about spending about $25 if you're a guy (plus at least 20% tip) for a haircut that will leave you quite pleased for about a month or so.
The secret is asking for a lady named Julianne. She is a funny, trendy, young good looking hairstylist, and SUPRISE... she speaks English!!! YES. Ask her nicely, and she'll give you input and even teach you a few things about how to take care of your hair. Oh yeah... go during the week because Saturday is the busiest day.
you will soon notice that Julianne rather stands out in the crowd of hair stylists at Hair Day. Perhaps it is safe to say she will one day own a hip hair salon in the near future. You'd better take advantage of the fact that her service as of now is very much affordable... but no one knows how long that will keep up.
PS: If you are a regular customer, make sure to ask her work cell number. Don't be ashamed. It is easier to reach her that way.
Great stylist. I'm definitely a satisfy customer.
And I've tried many other salons from $200 a cut to $40, and this is my favorite place.
In fact I'm going back for more good "hair day" this afternoon.
The place is usually pack, even though they have about 10+ stylist working there, make sure you make an appointment.
The decor is modern chic with a private lot and parking security.
They even have a changing room where you change into your cape before they start shampooing and styling.
I've gotten so many compliments after my hair cut last time.
Thanks Hair Day!
A good deal but the stylist I had, Julianne, definitely got too cutting-happy and cut off a lot more of my hair than I asked for.
Not sure if I'll be back. Maybe with a different stylist.
This review is for Lucy. DO NOT get your hair styled by Lucy. I went for a trial run and this chick made a mess of my hair. When I pointed out the problem, she huffed and MOVED ON TO THE NEXT CLIENT WHILE I WAS STILL SITTING IN THE CHAIR. OH HELL-TO-THE-NO SHE DIDN'T! I called my fiance to bitch about her while she was cutting in the next booth so she could hear my nasty words about her. She then came back to finish her job and I made her stay for another hour to finish her half-assed 4th grade project. IF YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY ON THIS beeyotch, be my guest. Be forewarned. Her head is bigger than her talent. Wait...let me rephrase that.. WHAT TALENT?
I would say this place is the best deal for an Asian salon. The service is salon quality but the price is closer to what you would pay at a barber: shampoo, cut, shampoo and style.
I've tried three stylists here and I would suggest going with Julianne, great at what she does and she's not bad looking.
The downside to this place is that it caters strongly towards Koreans. Everytime I've been there I was the only non-Korean and the only person not speaking in Korean. The girl that works the front cannot speak english, I end up doing a lot of pointing.... but great place overall!
my friend once had a BIG crush on her hairdresser ... but her sister advised her to not act upon her 'feelings' because "good guys are hard to find, but a good hairdresser is even more difficult to come across." that if things didn't work out, my friend would have made a grave mistake of losing a great hairdresser.
i cannot agree more with my friend's sister. it is really difficult to find a good hairdresser and sometimes i wonder if it will be a life long quest--just like finding mr. right.
i used to go to hair day--purely out of convenience. unlike many koreatown businesses, the parking lot is huge and the interior is pleasant enough. i think they even have a free wi-fi b/c i see women playing with their laptops. (personally, i think that if a person is so busy that she has to 'work' while getting her hair done and risk pieces of hair, random chemicals, and water splashes getting on her computer ... she should have stayed at work and not worry about her hair).
my hairdresser was this guy and i would come every so often to get a trim or my hair colored or something. i'd probably give him a solid B. (i had a different lady before him, and she was BAD).
also, he never itemized the bill ... and i was fine b/c everything usually came under $100 ... until one day in december 2005 ... i got highlights (yes, this was when people got highlights :) and the guy took the liberty of trimming my bangs (he said he had to trim it ... you know the korean style: instead of asking, they TELL you and do it before you consent) ... the bill came out to $160 something dollars (+ 20% tip).
he said that i got a trim + highlights + plus whatever ... what?
since then, i stopped going. i also went to a korean website to vent about my experience ... just to find out that i wasn't the only one. this hair salon was known for its arbitrary billing system.
since i wrote about a below the belt hair trimming place, i thought i should review an above the waist hair grooming place. i never had a cut, perm, highlight nor any other crazy stuff at hair day, instead what i got was a hair and makeup service for bridal party.
my sister, the bride, made a 7 am appointment for hair and makeup for 7 people. we got there exactly at 7, but they didn't show up until 7:30...strike 1!!! low and behold, we were not the only bridal party they booked (there were about 5 different ones going on by 8 am), with only 2 hairdressers working...strike 2!!! i got a great workout, going up and down the stairs 50000 times to get my hair and makeup done...strike 3!!!
so basically, they didn't value our time and created chaos for all these nervous brides and their friends. our hairs turned out ok (some better than the others, which led to the envious "you look so much better than me" remarks...o girls!!!), and our makeups turned out amazingly beautiful for all of us (it was rather a make-over for me than a make-up)...plus 1!!!
I got a haircut from Angela, who is the owner of the place. She has been a hairstylist for 13 years and does a REALLY good job. I've always had a hard time finding a stylist that could cut "Asian" hair well. I guess nobody can cut Korean hair better than a Korean, not to mention that is soooooooooooooooooooooo cheap to get a haircut in LA. It was $35 for shampoo and haircut. Gave her a big tip b/c I felt like i was jipping her. I will definitely be coming back to LA to get haircuts and pinkberry! =D
Well, I was needing a haircut so after reading a few reviews of different places, I decided on going to Hairday. Now, of course, being a guy, I honestly dont frequent hair salons, but I thought, what the hell, lets check this place out and maybe I can get a decent haircut. So I call them up and make the appointment . When I arrive I could tell they were all pretty much surprised to see an italian guy walk in this all Korean establishment. I felt a little akward for a minute or two,but they were all very friendly and welcomed me. Anyway, I had set up an appointment with Julianne after reading Rick K's review about her and I have to say Rick is right about her. She is really nice, friendly, funny, cuts really good hair and yeah, I have to admit, she is very attractive. I now actually look forward to seeing her for all these reasons. If you're looking for a great stylist, then ask for her. I actually like the vibe here and everyone is really friendly too. I give it 2 thumbs up.
I got a hair cut from my usual (?) stylist on Saturday. She cut it too short! I look like a boy! Everyone has been asking me what happened to my hair.. I am so depressed.. : ( I am not going back there again.
Great Experience. Lucy cut my hair and though she didn't speak English, her assistant Stacy was awesome. They were very hospitable, I'll be back for my next cut. The atmosphere is nice and it's affordable!
anyone knows where did Christine from hair day moved to or anyone has her contact info?
