I gotta be honest with you, when I'm getting a haircut I really don't want the stylist to be pushing their hair dyes. Yah, I got a few grays, but I'm not in NSYNC, so my hair is staying the color the good Lord wants it to be. I've gone here twice and this happened both times. What am I, Steve Martin over here? The last time I went cinched the fact that I'll never come back. I was the first customer in there in the morning and I still had to wait 20 minutes for a hair cut. If you're not ready to work, why open your store at 9? A bunch of bums here.
I will be straight up honest I'm that girl who cannot get her hair cut by just anyone. It has to be Mario Tricoci, Zanos, Frank Gironda or some other well known salon. Hair cuttery is one of the last places you would expect to see me at. I had to see my friend's hair cut and color to believe it was even possible at a Hair Cuttery. Even she had gone there with high recommendation by others that there existed a hair expert named Amber at the Hair Cuttery on Fullerton and Clark. I grew my hair out extremely long just in case so it would be salvageable if need be. I was still very nervous going despite the recommendations. I really shouldn't have underestimated Hair Cuttery because my hair cut turned out fabulous! I even think Amber did a better job than the stylists I had gone to at the other big name salons. Thanks Amber for the great Hair Cuttery experience! Bringing Hair Cuttery up to 4 stars.

Yeah, no. I needed a haircut badly. Like my STAASSGF was suggesting it often. We were on the bus coming home from somewhere (sorry baby, I can't remember what it was!) and we decided to stop in. we thought this was the one we remembered around Clark and Diversey. It was not.
We walked in and the wait wasn't too bad. I did get a kind of "we're super cool and you're gonna know it damn it!" vibe but we were there and I just wanted to get it over with. I was taken after maybe ten minutes and was treated like I didn't deserve to be in the magical Hair Cuttery chair. I don't ask for anything complicated. Styling is not my thing. I want to wash and run. Easy right? Not for the chick cutting my hair. It seemed like it was a genuine effort for her to waste her precious time on me. The phone calls were above me along with the chit chat with the other stylists. What the hell?
When something was actually happening to my head I got a hard sell on everything she could do to me. I was more comfortable with the car salesmen at Western car dealerships. I've said no more times during that one haircut than I've ever said to my groupies after a long night.
Yes the cut was cheap but the damn place is a Hair Cuttery, not a crazy high priced salon. They need to get over themselves.

I just paid $60 to have my hair RUINED.
They don't know what they're doing when it comes to lightening hair and shouldn't be telling people they can do things they don't understand. Now I'm going to have to pay big $$$ somewhere else to have my multi-colored hair repaired. I look like I've got a freakin' checker board on my head.
I wish I could go back in time and prevent myself from going there.
Save yourself the heartbreak and go somewhere else.

Great job Paige! She even broke out the razor and did exactly what I asked. I have gone twice now and will continue to go back when she is working.
5-star rating for Shannon at the Clark/Fullerton location!
She gave me a great layered cut, and even went over my hair with a razor to add some more texture (which for some reason, no stylists would ever do for me at the Clark/Diversey Hair Cuttery). $18 includes a shampoo, cut and blow dry. This is probably one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten, and looks just as good or better than the times I've gone to salons downtown and dropped $60 on a cut.
Most of their appointments are walk-ins, so you don't really get a choice of stylist - it's just whoever is the next person available. If you're going for something dramatic and short, or if you want someone who specializes in curly hair, etc., I'd advise calling ahead so they can match you up with the best stylist for the job.

If you've ever wondered why Ray has shitty haircuts, tah-dah here's the answer!
Why do I keep coming back?
The people are sooooooo friendly. I'll let you do a so-so job on my hair, I don't mind getting my haircut here cuz u treat me well unlike some other places... it's a great deal too. $13 haircut with free-wash (you can turn-down the free wash, it's the owner's policy and I feel like I'm taking advantage of them or something when I get a wash since it's so cheap so I never get it)... $13 + $5 tip is way better than most places in chicago where u get the same quality haircut for $20 or more pre-tip.
long bloody lines though... you're gonna learn to queue like the Brits do unless u go during weird times

Just went again and this time Felicia cut my hair. I actually got compliments this time from multiple people. When the gay d00d cut my hair and the super nice marketing chick cut my hair, it was a big zilch, nada. All 3 of them are the friendliest people who've ever cut my hair so I just bumped up H.C. a whole star. My roommate Adam warned me about the grandma there cutting his hair, he said she ripped on him and pissed him off.

I went to the Sine Qua Non Salon at $60 a pop after; I started going to get my haircut by "Jada" for $13 + $7 tip to the tune of $20 every three weeks. It's been a great choice. For the $40 difference my hair isn't quite as sharp and angular as my stylist at Sine Qua Non; however, I've got 40 extra loot cakes in my pocket, so you take your chances.
There is an African-American fellow; "Thomas" or something, he's a hair butcher, stay away unless you want the 1995 circa Mushroom Cut (tm).

They'll do a great job here with your hair and they are priced really reasonably too. But they get super crowded at times and the wait can be pretty long. And parking isn't exactly a joy to find either...

I guess it's a hit and miss. I've been to this "branch" twice. The first time my hair turned out good. But the second time I went there (about 2 weeks ago) I wasn't satisfied. I guess I was dizzy and tired and did not realize my hair was a bit lop sided. :( I'm not going back.
they do a pretty good job here and its definitely cheap compared to the places i usually end up going in downtown chicago.
