Ok, here's the deal. I'm broke. I have extremely straight hair that is very boring and has little hope for excitement. Said hair hadn't been cut in almost a year. It was getting embarrassing.
I deliberated for literally like an hour about whether I could go to Hair Cuttery. I mean, this is the kind of place my little brother used to get buzz cuts at when he was 8. Can a 23 year old girl respectably be seen in a Hair Cuttery??
The answer is a resounding yes! I sucked it up, popped in for my no-appointment-needed hair cut, and was very pleasantly surprised! Truth be told, I wish they didn't have such big windows near the waiting area, b/c I was a bit nervous about being seen. But once inside the hair cutting area, it truly feels like a normal salon. Except of course that most of the customers are men, but who cares!
My hair looks the exact same as it does after regular salons, and the whole thing, with tip, cost me $25. Sweet deal.
I'm a simple haircut person, but this is one of the best hair cuts I've gotten. Cesar was great. He was gentle and pleasant. For 15$, I couldn't ask for anything more.
First let me say, I am not reviewing Hair Cuttery as a chain... just this particular establishment. That being said let me now say... WOOF. I had the worst experience ever. I went for a simple trim and it turned into a nightmare.
One of my best friends manages a Hair Cuttery and she is the best hair stylist i have ever gone to. So... I thought since she works at a Hair Cuttery I can trust them. WRONG. I came out looking like Carol Brady. The layers were uneven and the stylist forgot to cut half of my bangs. I almost cried.
Maybe there are better stylists than the one i had, but i don't want to find out.
This particular Hair Cuttery ROCKS! I live near several others but this one was on my way to wherever I was going and it was open late on a Sat afternoon so I gave it a shot. Best haircut I've had in AGES! Didn't get the name of the gentleman who did it--he was new and originally from Puerto Rico. Exactly what I wanted, full blow dry for $20. Not all Hair Cutterys have the same pricing, so I've definitely paid more elsewhere for the same thing. I have a LOT of hair, so blow drying takes forever. It's soft, manageable, comes out right every time I wash it. I think I will go out of my way to go back to that one instead one closer to me next time.
I'm biracial, which means that I have hair that is nothing like anyone else's in my family, and thus needed to be "figured out by a professional", according to my mother. At home, I've been going to the same Hair Cuttery since I was 5, so when I came here for university, it was the natural choice.
Magalys is a saint. She is one of the only people on Earth I trust with my hair, and she is pleasant and is very tuned in to her clients. She seems to be the only person at this salon who can "deal" with ethnic hair, but there also doesn't seem to be much call for it. I also tend to be the only woman getting a service done.
She is very fast, and is always looking at little details. She remembers hairstyles I've had in the past, and asks how my mum is doing. They're also open until 9 on weeknights!
Wash-set-flatiron= Around $35
I walked in to hair cuttery in the middle of the day and immediately gt an appointment with no waiting- definitely a good start. I sat down with a hair dresser named Mayte and told her I needed my hair to be more manageable for the summer- I tend to frizz like crazy. I also told her to just do a trim with some specific requirements. She recommended I do a deep conditioning treatment to help my split ends. The treatment was great and I got a 10 minute head massage with it! She cut my hair exactly how I wanted it, she was talkative but not invasive and the cut looked great! I think the best thing about the process was I was able to recreate the style at home without professional tools. it looks like I just walked out of the salon every morning. All of this only cost me $25.00! I would definitely recommend this place for people looking for a salon quality hair cut without the salon prices!
Due to my current financial situation, (or lack thereof), I've started getting my short hairdo trimmed up at the less expensive chains. I was goin to a supercuts near my job. I called for two weeks straight and couldn't get in there when my stylist was available. Fed up with my super cute 'do turning into a soccer mom 'do I finally stopped into this hair cuttery in a fit of frustration. After waiting about 5 mins, Pasha introduced herself as the one that would be taking care of me. She was AWESOME! I've had my short hair for a while now and was ready to start the awkward process of growing it out. Wouldn't you know that Pasha's style was almost the same as mine and, what luck!, she's growing hers out too. After explaining what I was goin for, she started the cut. We engaged in some small talk. Normally, I find making small talk with strangers utterly painful and pointless, but she was just the right combo of business and chat. After about 20 min, I felt like the stylish young lady that I (with a certain amount of delusion, im sure) think I am. The place is clean, my stylist was awesome, and for $15 bucks - you can't beat it
Think parking on a Saturday afternoon is tough? Wednesday nite is no picnic, either!
Very clean location, friendly staff, nice atmosphere.
My stylist was very efficient, professional, and non-talkative - hooray!
$13 haircut - good value!
I just moved to the city, and I dont really see myself as a "tredny swank salon" kinda guy...so I looked for the nearest Hair Cuttery. Finding parking on a Saturday on Halsted is hard...but once I did all was good. I walked in and was in the chair in no time. Sue did a good job on my mop. I will see her again in a month or so! Sad to say, they didnt serve Jim Beam :(
