This restaurant has a big open space with most tables, if not all, with a Korean bbq set up. I heard that it used to always be bustling with customers all day and all night. Server was incredibly quick and refilled side dishes once for me without asking so that was nice - I guess she could tell that I was hungry as I waited for my food.
Got 2 main entree soup dishes and total was about $47 before tip.
The yukgaejang was pretty good although it had a lot of green onions and not as much meat. But overall decent price and good quality.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mar 8, 2024
Hahm Ji Bach is a well-known Korean bbq restaurant in Flushing and I do agree that it's one of the better ones. It's usually packed every time I go but the wait times aren't terrible. They are also fully Korean run but understand enough English to order. The service is alright - food comes out at a decent rate, banchan can be refilled if you ask, but since they're usually busy, they don't pay too much attention to your table. The staff also comes to cook your meat for you.
We ordered the three beef combo with came with beef brisket, beef tongue, and marinated beef ribs. All of these different cuts were delicious. They also give lettuce and sauces for lettuce wraps, which is the best way to eat Korean bbq meats. We also ordered the black pork belly which was also tasty. It had a good balance of fat to meat and the staff really cooked it to the right level of doneness so there was some crisp around it. All of the meats were such great quality.
Definitely a top Korean bbq spot. Menu has a good variety of appetizers, entrees, and different bbq meats to choose from. I'd skip their pancakes. I've tried both the seafood pancake and the chive pancake and their version tends to be on the chewy side. It's also fairly thin and not very filled with toppings so it's not my preference. Although I usually come for their bbq meats, many people come just for their entrees too.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 64630Feb 21, 2024
My friend convinced us to try the raw marinated crabs here, and although there wasn't a nearby train station, we opted for an Uber. The restaurant is a bit hidden, but once inside, there's ample space.
The menu is extensive, but we were here for the crabs. It was my first time trying them, and they were delicate, meaty, and served cold - the perfect bite with plenty of meat and fat. The meal included seaweed rice and banchan, and the service was prompt and efficient. I highly recommend giving this place a try!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 3, 2024
It was my first time eating here and it did not disappoint. Our food was consistent tended to and they give a ton of side dishes to with your meal too. Parking can be a bit tough and the restaurant is on a little side street and the street itself is pretty narrow.
I loved that when your meat is done cooking they added a little shelf to the grill so that your meal will not overlook. I also liked that they give you 4 different dipping sauce options to go with your bbq.
I'd definitely come back again if I'm in flushing and craving kbbq.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 29, 2023
Great place to eat with friends on Friday night / weekend. They have flavorful meats that you can cook on the bbq grill. They offer many small dishes. It makes feel like you don't know where to start. The service was decent. It was a busy during the time I went. There were a few time they took awhile to bring some items out. But overall quality and service were good. We don't have anything to complaint about. The atmosphere was good pace. They didn't rush us. They even let my bf's friends sit down first while they waited for me to come. That was sweet of them.
I would definitely come back. It is a bit of a walk from Main Street flushing. But you can take the bus or take cab if you don't want to walk.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 6, 2024Updated review
Been here a few times before. The first 2 servers we had were decent, the lady esp was pretty attentive. However, their shift must've ended & the 2 new lady servers paid us no heed at all. I tried to make eye contact for like 10mins so that we could pay & leave. They walked by numerous times & attended to other customers but not us. I finally called 1 of them over so we could finally pay & leave.
For banchan, they gave eggplant, kimchi, anchovies with peanuts, some type of choy, Kakktugi, some other type of radish kimchi, mackerel with radish, peppers, & sweet potato, I think. I liked the banchan. As always, I wish they'd give anchovies without peanuts. The radish strip kimchi is my fave, followed by kkaktugi, choy & sweet potato.
I got my usual sundubu jjigae. My cousins got bibimbap, & squid bowl. The sauce they gave with the bibimbap was too salty, & not spicy enough, according to my cousin. They ended up giving us gochugaru. The hot stone bowls were good, so was my jjigae.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 14, 2023Previous review2nd time here & they were really pushy abt getting appetizer. We had to say no like 3 times. Anyway, for banchan, we got seaweed salad, potato, acorn jelly, kkaktugi, kimchi, egg, bamboo, super spicy kimchi that's made with idk which veggie, pumpkin, & peanuts with anchovy. I love anchovy but I hate peanuts. I was able to have some anchovy, since the smell or taste of peanuts didn't transfer. I wish they'd give just anchovies tho. Last time, the chili anchovy was too spicy. Some of the side dishes were ok, some were good, others were too spicy for me.
I got sundubu jjigae again, extra mild this time which wasnt spicy at all till I poured too much kimchi sauce in it.
My sister got squid fried rice which comes with veggies like bell peppers, corn, peas, carrot. She got it medium spicy which was obviously too much for me. The dish was great nonetheless. I heard the bibimbap is good. They also give beef veggie soup with the hot stone bowl rice dishes.Jun 20, 2022Previous review1st time here today & they served us 10 banchan: bean sprouts, chili with anchovies, egg, fish cake, kkakdugi, bok choy, macaroni salad, kimchi, mackerel with potato ( I think), & salad. The kkakdugi & kimchi were too spicy. I wish they'd just given an anchovy dish w/o chili. We didn't touch the chili since it made even the anchovies too spicy. I liked the salad cuz of the dressing. Although the mackerel was too salty & spicy, I really liked it. Everything else was ok. My friend got naengmyeon which she said was ok. I got haemul sundubu jjigae which was too spicy even though I requested mild. It was ok otherwise, not as good as Mapo bbq.

Upon arriving, we noticed a considerable number of customers, which initially seemed promising. However, it became apparent that the restaurant was severely understaffed, leading to prolonged wait time after ordering and a less-than-ideal dining experience.
Additionally, it was concerning that none of the tables, including ours, had a smoke vent typically found in Korean BBQ establishments. This absence caused discomfort, as I felt surrounded by smoke, which is not conducive to a pleasant dining environment, especially considering potential implications for lung health.
We opted for two combos, totaling $220, with the expectation of a premium Korean BBQ experience. Regrettably, our meat was left cooking for an extended period, resulting in it being both dry and burnt. We believe the value did not match the price, especially considering the availability of other nearby KBBQ options.
When I raised concerns about the quality of the meat with our server, I received an unhelpful response, with the server suggesting that the dryness was expected due to thickness. This, coupled with issues such as overcrowded grilling and bitter egg soup, left us dissatisfied.
After expressing our concerns, however, there was a noticeable shift in service. A new server took over, and our table received more attention, albeit seemingly prompted by our complaint. This change, while appreciated, raises concerns about the consistency of service.
Ideally, exceptional service should be standard and not a reaction to customer feedback. It's important that all patrons receive equal attention and service quality from the moment they are seated.
While we appreciate the effort put into the banchan offerings, we believe improvements in service, proper staffing, and attention to food quality are crucial for a more positive customer experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2117303202Feb 1, 2024Updated review2 check-ins
It's been a while since I've been here and was not too impressed by its meats. I love the fact that there are 12 banchans and they all tasted fantastic but what disappointed me was the quality of meat and flavor. The price is also expensive but service is great. They cook for you and teach you what to pair with to eat. This place is packed so come early. I would come back to try something else next time.
Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Sep 14, 2017Previous reviewWow! I've never been to a Korean restaurant that offers so many side dishes ! It's great :)
We ordered Pork belly and marinated pork tenderloin to grill. They not only grilled it for us but they also served us. We also ordered a large Korean army plot which had generous portions of spam, sausages and noodles. The food was delicious and filling for three people. We actually had left overs swimming in the pot of stew.
Note: they don't take reservations for less than 8 people, parking is not easy in the area - Oct 19, 2023
Hahm Ji Bach is the perfect spot for a casual and relaxed late-night meal. Their Sundubu-jjigae, a thick and flavorful tofu soup, is a must-try and hits the spot. Don't miss out on their interesting Hangover Soup with Pork Backbone and OX Blood Pudding. Just remember to give it a good mix to help with any unusual odors - it's an adventurous dish for the bold!
What makes Hahm Ji Bach stand out is their friendly and trendy service. They have automatic robots delivering your food, which adds a unique and fun touch to the dining experience. Plus, if you're someone who craves late-night eats, you're in luck because they offer a variety of options available 24 hours a day.
Parking can be difficult with residential and street parking options only.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 17, 2023
My favorite go to spot for Korean food and it never disappoints! I've been here a handful of times. Recently went on a Monday and we were seated right away but the place filled up as we were leaving.
This time we got the pork belly and galbi along with mul naengmyeon (which is the perfect combo in the summer with bbq) kimchi pancake, and fried dumplings. Everything was sooo good. They give you a bunch of side dishes that pair so well with the bbq and when you get bbq, it comes with a steamed egg!
Service was great and everyone was super nice. Highly recommend!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
