One of Hadsten House's Favorite Reviews What's This?
The Hasten House is a great HUGE welcome to possible places to stay in the Santa Ynez area.
The rooms are nice, very clean, warm/cozy and the bathrooms are large, everything is new and overall this is a very comfortable stay. Highly recommend.
Location is great, - very central, easy drive to surrounding towns, walking distance to many places and easy to get in and out of.
Breakfast is a nice addition and comes with the room so hard to pass up but not the most fulfilling. In the evening they turn that same area into a very cozy bar/ lounge environment which is really nice. We have not had dinner here yet.
This is our preferred place to stay but sometimes have to stay elsewhere when we are only coming up for one night and they ( like many places in the area) have the 2 night min. requirement. on the weekends.
We have stayed from a Fess Parker in Los Olivos to a Solvang Inn & Cottage - Hasten House my my pick!
Also....the hologram fireplaces in the rooms actually do throw out some heat!

Not a big fan of motels, in fact, I hate staying at motels and refuse to do it. However, when I found out that the town of Solvang is home to mostly motels, I had no choice but to choose one that was suitable for my taste.
I'll be frank, I was quite nervous to stay at this place. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel room and the decor! Quaint rooms with a touch of modern yet classic furnishings.
Our first time in Solvang started off with a lovely welcome by the Hadsten House. As you might be able to tell, I'm a bit high maintenance when it comes to hotels. I like to stay in hotels such as the St. Regis (where butler service is mandatory). So, when I say, that this was a pleasant surprise, I'm not kidding.
Great hotel. Reasonable rates. Complimentary breakfast that serves a little bit more than a continental breakfast. What a nice welcome.
As good as our previous experiences at this place were, one of the downfalls of good places is their lack of consistency, and as the saying go, every dog has its day, and every dog has fleas.
The second night we stayed here was almost a 180deg turn from the others.
First to the accomodations, we were upgraded to a suite, and on the second night, decided to take advantage of the huge jacuzzi tub, only to realize that the plug was rusted/broken, and even though it was Sunday, the maintenance guy said he could fix it only on Monday.... What a bummer but oh well...
We then decided to go to dinner there, for the second night in a row, and this is where it fell apart. Even though the service is great, the chef and/or food crew was definitely the B team.
I ordered the Mac and Cheese.. Im in wine country, a great restaurant, and I had had it previously and it was amazing... Well.. out it came, and it was BAD... If the best mac was a 5 and the stuff in a box is a 2, this was a 1. Although the noodles were a *little* overcooked, the sauce was nothing more than a thickened white sauce and had NO cheese.. It was awful, I couldn't even eat it..
The appetizer I got (the clam chowder, since I got the bisque the night before) was pretty good, but I decided to finish the night with a failproof desert.. Sorbet... and... it was BAD... It was the all too familiar 3 dolup's in a glass presentation with lemon, mango and strawberry but the mango looked like it had melted and was refrozen, the strawberry was bland, and the lemon was so acidic that it acid burnt my tongue...
I would still recommend this place but it was a real disappointment. Perhaps the head chef was sick, but whoever served that night i was there was defiantly not the guy you want cooking for you considering the price of both the food and the room.

Stayed here 2 nights. Room was nicely appointed and comfortable. Solvang is so small, that it is easy to walk to everything from this hotel. Breakfast was very good for a complimentary hotel breakfast. Only complaint about breakfast was the weird orange juice - I've has better OJ from a can on a plane. Outdoor hot tub was nice, though it could have used a few plants to mellow out the wall to wall concrete. Outdoor fireplaces were a nice touch. The pool was disappointing. My 5 year old thought the pool was spooky and didn't want to go back in it. Couldn't really blame here. It was dimly lit, kind of cold, and murky. Even at the 3 feet deep mark, I couldn't see my feet. It was like that all 3 days.
Wine reception between 3-5 was a nice touch. Only catch is that we're not usually hanging around the hotel between those hours.
love this place! We stayed here during the summer and wrote a review on it somewhere else. It's really the best hotel around Solvang. This used to be the Vagabond Inn and was really a motel. But the Hadsten House is just beautiful. My 6 yr old walked in our room and said she loved it. She should know, she's been in enough hotels during our vacations. This trip was extra special because it was my daughter's first time to solvang. We only got a reservation for one night (it was a last minute get away) but liked our stay so much that we stayed a second night. My husband just called the front desk and asked. They gave us the same rate at the night before (this almost never happens). It's just on the outer part of Solvang but everything is walking distance.
Their restaurant was fabulous. The peruvian blue chips were delish and I'm still craving them. I have never eaten anything like it. My daughter loved them too. My husband had to try the Hadsten Burger. haha please don't attempt to eat this unless you're a hearty eater or enlisting yourself as an amateur food eating competitor because it's huge. My husband couldn't eat the whole thing. I had the sea bass which was cooked to perfection.
Solvang does something to you and you just want to stay; especially at the Hadsten house.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for a nice romantic get-away. We were very pleasantly surprised with our stay. For the price, it can't be beat.
The rooms are great size and we really enjoyed the decor. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The day spa is small and some would call it "quant" but we had outstanding massages. The therapists were amazing!
The food at the restaurant is really good, probably the best in the area. We especially liked the salmon carpaccio and the halibut. The happy hour was very nice and relaxing. They even have Stella on Tap.
All in All, it was a great trip and we will be back!
We enjoyed every single second of our stay at the Hadsten House. The hotel is beautiful, the staff were wonderful, the restaurant is gorgeous and the food was a delight. The location is ideal and the pool area was more than what we would have ever expected. The two spa treatments I had were heavenly and if I could design my bedroom at home just like the rooms at the Hadsten House I would! Talk about getting the most bang for your buck! If ever we travel back to Solvang, we wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else...You really can't go wrong here.
The only place to stay in Solvang! One of my wife's and I's favorite places to go to. The staff could not be any nicer. Bill the manager was very gracious and makes sure your visit is wonderful. The restaurant was completely outstanding. Some of the best food in the area. As for the rooms, that is the best part. The beds are awesome and the rooms are very well appointed. The best part is how clean everything is. Upgrade and get the Spa Suite well worth it...
I love this place! The rooms are modern and inviting, and the jazuzzi room is truly worth every penny they charge for it. Yeah, the cheese kind of sucks, but I'd stay here even if they didn't offer the free breakfast and wine reception. This is far and away the best hotel in Solvang. I've stayed here at least once a year for the last 3 years, and each time has been memorable and fun.
Have only eaten there .........
Freezing cold .......... the staff could not alter the thermo ........ long wait . questionable service .... The food ? Cant remember ... just wanted to escape ! And why do the staff park outside the front door ????
We stayed at Hadsent House for 2 nights as part of our mini-honeymoon. The hotel was a short 2 minute walk to downtown Solvang. The rooms were nicely decorated, they looked like they had recently been remodeled. The complimentary breakfast was better than expected and the dinner we had at the hotel restuarant as part of our package was delicious. Overall, not a bad value for the price.

I just came back from a one night stay in Solvang and I booked the Hadsten House with the Dinner package. I was very happy with my choice. The rooms had updated decor and when we walked in the room it smelled clean and fresh (unlike the usual scent of a motel). We took advantage of the wine and cheese that is complimentary everyday from 3-5pm. We also took advantage of the Complimentary breakfast buffet in the morning. Just with these 2 things I would have been satisfied but we also had the Dinner in the restaurant. The food was Delicious. I had the Spinach pasta with shrimp and tomato cream sauce, and a bowl on clam chowder soup to start, It was all fabulous! The servers were very nice and attentive and we even had a live guitarist playing/signing soft tunes as we ate and drank-I was surprised thee was entertainment considering this was a Tuesday night!
Breakdown...
*Good Location
*Clean and newly decorated rooms
*Great service
*Great Complimentary perks
Going to Solvang? Stay here!
It's been a few short days since our stay here at the Hadsten House and we have already received a thank-you postcard from the staff for our stay. I'm sure they do this to all guests who stay at the Hadsten House but with fantastic customer service like this who wouldn't re-book here?
Upon check-in we were greeted with nothing but smiles. We were immediately offered a couple of glasses of wine to start off. Say what? Now, this is what I'm talking about! Weekend getaway, lovely room and accommodations, WINE...check!
We arrived and entered our room. Greeted by such a spacious room with contemporary classic designs, flat screen tv, fireplace, hot tub, a king size bed, wi-fi and turn down service. WOW!
Other amenities included an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and spa services for a minimal fee. They also have a restaurant which is connected to the check in area. They offer continental breakfasts to all guests from 7-10a/daily. The wait staff is fantastic too! Want a glass of water? ...check! OJ? ...check! Another refill on that cup-of-joe? ...check!
Please folks, it was completely worth the money to stay here. Now who wants to save money but have cockroaches and bread crumbs under the covers? Not I.
Thanks to Yelp and the other reviews, we chose the Hadsten House. And what a choice it was!

We stayed at the Hadsten House for our 5 year anniversary.
Our room was not ready when we arrived so we were told we could enjoy some wine in their restaurant while we waited. We opted to take a quick stroll around town and came back an hour later and we were ready to go. The person who checked us in was nice and they even offered us a bottle of champagne in honor of our celebration.
We reserved a King Spa room. The room decor was super cute. Therer were 2 flat screen TV's one in the main room and the other by the spa above the faux flip-the-switch-and-it's-on fireplace. The spa was huge, too! (Side note: Be careful when getting into and out of the spa when you've had a few glasses of wine. It's a huge spa and you literally have to climb in without a step stool.)
After checking our room out we ventured down to check out the wine and cheese reception. It was nearing 4 pm and there was an hour left for us to enjoy. Well, good thing they serve both wine and beer because the cheese was just slices of plain ol' american cheese and swiss. There were some crackers and fresh fruit as well. Nothing special, but I was expecting something a little more. The bartender was nice. I had a nice white wine and my hubs had Stella on tap. We made reservations for dinner that same evening because a lot of restaurants within walking distance close early.
Dinner was really good. We had the baked brie, filet mignon and short ribs. They offered us dessert on the house because it was our anniversary. Cool! The wine was good but pretty pricey. We brought it back to our room and finished it there.
The next morning before our wine tour, we decided to check out the breakfast scene. Complimentary breakfast is always a plus! But we didn't expect what we got! This was not your ordinary continental breakfast...oh no! Yummy buffet style set up complete with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and even oatmeal! Danishes, fruit, coffee, tea and juice were also available. I'd go back just to have free breakfast. And their coffee was really good too!
Our second night was just a comfy. We were tired from our day of wine tasting so we vegged on the bed, watched TV, indulged in the spa again and forgoed any other connection with the outside world.
Check out was satisfactory. The girl wasn't very nice and didn't really seem to care about how our stay was...she was in robot mode. I had once small favor to leave an envelope for someone who would be picking it up and it almost seemed like a hassle for me to leave it. I opted not to and took care of my business on my own. So much for that! All in all, we'd go back! I'll definitely try the spa services and take a dip in the indoor pool too! Solvang and the Santa Ynez valley is so relaxing so it won't be hard to make that decision!
King Frederick's....The Viking Motel....Svendsgaard's Lounge, don't they all seem a little tooooo cheesy?
If you're looking for a more modern place to stay in the surreal town of Solvang, you gotta check out Hadsten House at the edge of town, with a fantastic view of Santa Ynez valley and seconds walking distance back to Danish-ville.
Surprisingly enough, I can't think of anything bad to say about this place! The price to stay on a busy Saturday night was affordable (call ahead and see if they have specials, we paid ~$200/night), the staff was more than friendly, free cheese/fruit/wine happy hour, gorgeous and CLEAN room, free hot breakfast, perfect location to do your wine tastings (right in the middle of Los Olivos/Santa Ynez/etc etc) the list really goes on.
If you are spending the weekend in the Santa Ynez wine valleys, I highly recommend this place, you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I first stayed here last winter when we went wine tasting during the last week of December. This was before we were married. We got an awesome deal and were able to get the fancy spa tub and fireplace room for less than $150 a night. We loved it! The room was cozy and clean and the spa tub was awesome -- a bottle of wine and a dip in the tub was all I needed to relax and feel at home. The place was under construction at the time (the restaurant and spa were still being built) but, aside from a power flicker or two, we were never inconvenienced. They gave us coupons for free Danish breakfasts at the Danish bakery down the street, which was great -- I love a good Danish breakfast. Bread, cheese, pastry, coffee/tea and juice -- what more do you need? But that's a different review. Moving on...
Last August we got married at a vineyard not far from Solvang and decided to stay here for the wedding since we'd had such a great experience the first time. We stayed in the same room as before and, just like before, it was awesome. Nothing like an indoor spa tub to make the wedding night extra fun!
I'd highly recommend the Hadsten House to anyone staying in Solvang. It's clean, pretty, centrally located, the staff are very friendly, and during the off season you can find some really great prices. (Admittedly, during the summer it's a little expensive, but I still think it's worth it.) We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant for dinner but the breakfast buffet was pretty good. The only problem we had with it was that they didn't refill the food very quickly so if you came at the wrong time there wasn't much to eat. There is also a spa, which I have not tried either, but I look forward to doing that someday.

I spent my birthday on the wine tasting trail of Santa Barbara County and stayed at the Hadsten House on their dinner package.
What a great and nice surprise in accomodations in Solvang. Not only was the room tastefully decorated and upgraded even with Waterworks fixtures in the bathroom, but the bed was one of the most comfortable that I've slept in at a hotel. They even offer complimentary wine (Salmon Creek) and fruit and cheese in the afternoon for their guests.
The staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and courteous. Our waitress Sue in the restaurant was delightful and such a hoot. I loved her!! I was even provided with a complimentary bottle of champagne for my birthday at dinner! (Thanks Sue!) The night's singer was such a nice touch in the bar/restaurant who I met the next day at her day job at the furniture shop in downtown Santa Ynez. The spa provided a calming and relaxing atmosphere. Bridget was my massage therapist and she was top-notch! The hotel also had shuttle service to Chumash Casino which was nice to not have to drive even though it was only 3-4 miles down the street. I couldn't have asked for much more in the area at such a reasonable price.
Thank you Hadsten House for making my birthday this year extra special! I look forward to visiting the area again and definitely stay at Hadsten House.
We stayed at Hadsten House this past weekend and were pleasantly surprised indeed. The place has undergone a major renovation and it looks great! The rooms smell clean and fresh and are well appointed. They have given great attention to detail and it made me very happy. For me, and as I've come to learn for other people as well, it's the little things that count.
Just a few things that Hadsten House should consider: the ads say complimentary wine and cheese reception. The ad should actually read: complimentary slices of American cheese and a two drink maximum, after which we will charge you $5.00 a pour. They don't even have any major wine labels that they are offering to charge you $5.00 for and this is wine country???????? I don't get it!?????
I mean, for such a swanky looking restaurant/ hotel to be serving THAT and then to charge for something you advertise as complimentary, it really cheapens the whole experience.
If you're going to limit the pours you might as well offer some quality wine. To offer the jug o' wine I can pick up at Rite-Aid along with some Kraft cheese slices you might as well not offer anything at all.
We showed up early in the day and were told they had been booked solid the night before and that we should return at about 1:00 p.m. No problem. We had some wine tasting to do. When we came back, at about 2:30 we were told the room was still not ready. No problem. We were on vacation so we smiled and sat in the lobby and waited. The attendant said she would check to see if the wine was ready so we could relax and wait. The bartender offered us a drink but quickly informed us that it was a two drink maximum and that it would be $5.00 each after that. There was a huge sign next to the paltry offerings of cheese and fruit that read: REMEMBER TO TIP YOUR SERVER. I looked at the wine (have NEVER heard of this wine) and I've had quite a bit of wine, read about wine, blah, blah, blah. Re-read the sign and was kind of embarrassed. I felt a little like a beggar. I don't think any establishment wants to bring about those feelings in their guests.
So here's my message: EITHER STEP IT UP AND OFFER SOME QUALITY WINE AND CHEESE AND CONTINUE TO CHARGE AFTER YOUR TWO DRINK MAX. or CONTINUE TO SERVE WHAT YOU ARE SERVING BUT DON'T DO THAT THING WHERE YOU CHARGE PEOPLE (it's tacky).
On June 11th Phil and I stayed at the Hadsten for their Dinner Getaway Package. We were so delighted at the warm reception we received and the beautiful room we had, that, that would have been enough, but when we went to the restaurant to have our included dinner we were even more impressed. The food was elegant and delicious and well as being presented beautifully. We would recommend The Hadsten to anyone interested in visiting the Santa Ynez valley and Solvang. Same sex couples welcome.

After driving 10 hours in circles due to inclement weather, we looked forward to our improvised detour into Solvang as a chance to really unwind for a minute. A brief run of the areas many motel offerings led us to the Hadsten House, who offered a discounted rate of just under $100 for the night. The small but nostalgically but elegantly decorated lobby was totally welcoming and we were quickly helped and given a room.
Like most if not all lodgings in the city, Hadsten is a motel--the doors open to the parking lot/street. This is actually very convenient, as you can park right by your room and not have to worry about forgetting things in your car, etc. The room we took had two enormous queen-sized beds poofed to no end patterned exquisitely with what appeared to be the same motif as on the wall of the lobby. The TV had cable (we watched South Park and Terminator 3). It rested on top of a FAKE FIREPLACE, which managed to be somehow incredibly endearing and not at all tacky. The bathroom was fully-stocked and the shower couldn't have been more refreshing. There was even a minifridge in the armoire.
My only complaint is an unfair one: the indoor heated pool, something we were very much looking forward to, closed shop at 10pm. Having arrived at 9:30pm, this was huge disappointment. However, this disappointment was quickly remedied by pizza and libations, and South Park.
A steal at $99 bucks for the night and probably one of the finer rooms I've stayed in en travel.

took Dimples to the Hadsten House for V-Day / Pres. Day weekend. got a great deal on http://Hotels.com and saved $100 for a 3 day/2 night stay.
Pros:
- huuuuuge king-sized bed. i could've slept in bed all day!
- beautifully decorated rooms and dining area (the ONE place that wasn't thrown up on by the Danish surroundings)
- free DELICIOUS continental breakfast complete w/scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, potatoes, muffins, oj, coffee...
- spa/masseuse on site (definitely getting a massage next time)
- heated indoor pool
Con:
- although the staff was friendly, they weren't the... brightest crayons in the box. i called beforehand and was assured that the staff would put out the roses i had sent to the room - they were sending out an email to the entire staff to ensure this. but when I opened the door, the flowers were still unopened in its shipping box. i called the front desk to find out where the mix-up occurred, and they could only offer an apology but could not explain what happened. pretty disappointing considering the assurances the front desk had made over the phone. i would've rated HH 5 stars otherwise.
all in all, Hadsten House is a great place to stay in Solvang, as long as you get a good deal. we'll definitely be back.
I wanted to plan a fun vacation with my boyfriend, who gets spoiled with 5 star hotels when he travels for work.
So I followed the advice of other Yelpers and booked 3 nights at the Hadsten. The hotel was beautiful and priced well for the services offered. We took advantage of breakfast every morning, which was far superior to what you'll find as "complimentary" at most hotels. We also stopped by for the wine and cheese tastings. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
I also took advantage of their spa. I have to admit that it wasn't the best massage I've ever had, but it helped relax my muscles after an earlier bike ride. The masseuse was really nice and gave restaurant suggestions and tips on how my boyfriend could fight his allergy attack (we're not used to that much green).

Like many of the other reviewers i really did like this place. Rather than go into a long story I'll lay out some things to keep in mind.
Location:
The Second Major Hotel on the way in means that you have a distance to walk and driving is kind of a pain in the butt. I didn't mind walking so it wasn't a big deal. Because of being on the edge of town the speed limit is a little higher so expect more road noise (especially in the morning). Stick with rooms twoards the back.
Accommodations:
Like most have said it's a renovated motel. I stayed in a standard king, nice amenities, no coffee maker or microwave. Door to the restroom was a sliding door with no lock. Turn down services available. TVs are nice but they do not have HD channels, there is a DVD player provided in the room.
Overall:
I was very satisfied overall, but we did stay with a reduced rate $189/night. I'm not sure if it's really worth the amount of money they charge for a standard rate of $260+.

hadsten house was terrific!
i booked the room using http://hotels.com and got the rate of $109 a night for mid-april. the rooms are set up as a motel format (ground floor and second floor with outside stairs and walkway, parking lot right outside your room's door). the room itself was lovely. the environment they create with the spaciousness, decor, lighting, furnishings, robes, spa products, and temperature control system is very relaxing and tranquil.
we attended the wine reception, which was held in their restaurant. they served some tidbits (fruits, crackers, cheese) along with some house wines. the restaurant itself is dark with a large vaulted A-frame ceiling, with large globe floats suspended from the middle, all complimenting a huge fire place. they also had many tea lights around the room, which created a romantic ambiance.
the free breakfast was excellent. in addition to eggs, bacon, sausage, potatos, fruit, porridge, etc, you could also have them make a hot chocolate or other coffee specialty drink. they also served orange juice which tasted very fresh.
we would love to come back and try out the indoor pool and spa facilities.

Very comfortable and nicely decorated -- stars for that.
The reason this hotel does not get the 5-stars from me is for two KEY things. #1 (and the BIGGEST!) ... we did not have internet connection in our room (not even with the ethernet or phone cord!). I guess, as the hostess described, we were in the FAR corner (room 118 -- also a handicapped room .... but not creepy handicapped [like some hotels]) and there is no signal there. This was HUGE. We were there to eat and go wine tasting - and get away from kids! We rely heavily on internet reviews and planning via internet (we love Yelp!). So this in itself would have knocked the star rating down.
#2, the maid door was next to ours ... we had to keep moving a GIANT blue bin from in front of our door. What the heck!?!?! I think it was because the maid had left the MAIN keys on our room one day and we got her/them in trouble (not intentionally ... we returned them to the front desk and were put in the middle of the scolding). Finally, we started moving the blue bin to in front of other people's rooms, cars and other inconvenient locations. (Yes - we were immature)
SO---- comfy, pretty, good spa! (I will review that, too), well situated .... make sure you get internet if you use it!, and be cautious of maids on a mission!!! (We also got a good internet special!!!)
I've been coming up to the Sta Ynez area for over twenty years, and I've always thought the accommodation options were underwhelming. You can go low-end and stay at a run-down, cheesy motel with Danish Viking themes, or you can go higher-end and stay at a nice but overpriced hotel (there are B&Bs too, of course, but they're just not my bag). So I usually went the latter route, and almost always stayed at the Marriott in Buellton, which is nondescript but totally serviceable (if a bit dated).
Last time around, I tried to book a room there and it was all sold out. And yet this turned out to be a lucky break, because I discovered the Hadsten House, and now I'm never staying anywhere else when I visit the area.
It's true that this is a renovated Vagabond Inn, and if there's something about entering your room from the street that you find problematic, that may be an issue. I have no objection to the layout, though, and everything else there is utterly first-rate. The rooms are medium-sized but impeccably clean and full of quality finishes. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the shower was clean, the bath products were fancy, and the design aesthetic was stylish but not cold and austere.
The pool and jacuzzi areas were great, too. Both are well-heated, there are plenty of towels, and there's lots of space so you don't feel crowded. The breakfast was solid but not spectacular--perfectly tasty eggs, bacon, pastries, etc. There's also oatmeal and fresh fruit for the health-conscious, but I didn't go that route.
I was also surprised to read negative comments about the service. Everyone I dealt with was polite, pleasant, and professional. Teresa at the front desk was just one example of the consistently high-level service.
So, long story short--I think the HH is a great value for the money (although I did a mid-week special so got a significantly reduced rate) and look forward to another enjoyable stay there.
Perfect place to go if you want to just get away. The room is absolutely beautiful! The whole time I was there, I couldn't stop saying "WOW". I would definitely come back here again and again!
I agree with Chris G....this place is definitely worthy of five stars aside of their continental breakfast (eggs, potatoes, bacon, donuts). I mean, it IS free so you can't balk too much...however, for the fat and cal conscious, I'd like to have seen some fruit at least!
A friend of mine and I took advantage of the weekday package: $300 for one night (including the breakfast for two, a three course dinner for two, two one hour massages or facials, AND the room!). It was GREAT...absolutely FANTASTIC...and for the price? Hell...it deserves 10 stars for that one.
The room was nicely appointed and recently redone (hence the special...thru Oct. 1)...they just reopened. There's a fireplace and flat screen in each room and the beds are heavenly...slept like along aside of the massive wine-induced headache waking me up at 3:30.
We swam in the pool in the morning...also nice. Not overly chlorinated, covered, quiet.
And the massage? I went in thinking it was going to be crap but really...one of the best ones I've had! My masseuse was wonderful and really got into my knots. She even gave me directions to a great place to eat up in Los Olivos!
If you have some time during the week and want to go with a friend or a honey...I HIGHLY suggest looking up the Hadsten House. Not a better deal to be had....and it's within walking distance to Copenhagen St. and many of the wineries....

we got the king spa -- king size bed, with ambiance/mood-setting -only fireplace, flat screen tv w/dvd player, we especially LOVED the separate room for jacuzzi (i believe its the largest indoor jacuzzi we ever had), ambiance fireplace & another flat screen tv w/dvd player -- this lil room gave you a lil vegas-like luxury flavor. modern, dark, sleek decor. great hot buffet breakfast (relative to continental breakfast) -- fresh fruits, large rolls, danish pastries, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal (can add -- brown sugar, pecans, golden raisins) & beverages -- coffee, tea, oj & cranberry juice. definitely a great way to start a day of wine tasting. one minor complaint -- though the restaurant has a modern, dark, sleek decor as well -- it is too dark in their during breakfast time.
additional amenities -- complimentary afternoon wine, cheese & fruits, wireless internet connection in our room, indoor pool & outdoor jacuzzi both w/lounging area & fireplace. we didn't get to try the pool or jacuzzi as it was relatively crowded. the pool was really small. besides we got our own private jacuzzi to lounge in!
conveniently close to the town of solvang & a great base place as it seemed centrally located to the sta. barbara wine country we explored. walking around the lil town of solvang, this place seems to be the most modern hotel.
we'll be back!!!!

This was a very pleasant suprise. I like this place. I saw the pictures online and read the other reviews but was still a little skeptical after I booked my room and never received my email confirmation. I even called the next day asking for it and they said they would send it but didn't. None the less it was fine.
The rooms are nice and clean and the service is really good. They have free wine and cheese everyday from 3P-5P and breakfast in the morning. I didn't go to either so I can't tell you if they were good. Based on the walking around Solvang this seems to be "fancy" motel in the neighborhood.
I would have given this place five stars but it is expensive for a motel and the television reception cut out during the second quarter of the USC vs Virginia game.
My family stayed here on a recent trip to California. I was a little put off by the front desk staff upon checkin (they were eating cake and chatting while an older lady gave me a sort of snotty glance like I shouldn't be there - wtf). The rooms however were nice and the staff at the restaurant were fantastic. We went over to ask about ordering food for take out and they were extremely accomodating and we had a great dinner. At breakfast the lady working the room was also fantastic, friendly and super sweet. We never got to try the pool but I would recommend this hotel. The gentleman who checked me out was very nice and gave me good info about the town. Don't know what the checkin lady's problem was though!

This is the only chic hotel in Solvang I guess. My BF and I stayed here for 3 nights and had a blast. The bed is very comfortable and love the style of the room. The complimentary breakfast in the morning and wine and cheese in the afternoon are awesome. Didn't have the chance to try the restaurant, but for sure we will when we go back again. It's a very clean, chic, simple hotel after all.
This review is a blend of the hotel and the restaurant. I recently stayed here on their room/dinner package combo. The room was quite nice with good bedding, nice toiletries, flat screen TVs and big bathrooms. I would recommend staying here without any problems. The restaurant on the other hand was awful. The setting on the surface looks very nice, but there was a slight musty smell. The service is good and well intentioned but the food was awful, terrible, bad etc. I had the short ribs. They were tough tough tough and tasted awful. My friend had the salmon which was a little better, but not fresh at all. The salads were passable but just. I so wanted this whole package to be a great deal, but you do get what you pay for. Stay at the hotel, but eat somewhere else.
I followed the advice of other Yelpers and stayed here this past weekend. Everything was very pleasant. We were welcomed nicely at check-in and even though it was after 5p (the wine and cheese reception), the front desk agent told us to go to the bar and request our comp. glass of wine.
The room was very clean and nicely furnished. We stayed in a one king room. The only thing to note is that the sink area of the bath does not have a door. The tub and toilet can be sectioned off for privacy though. The air conditioning worked extremely well which was very nice since it was warm this past weekend.
We ate dinner at the hotel on Saturday night. We had planned to eat elsewhere but by the time we were hungry, everything else in Solvang seemed to be closed (8:15p). Dinner was tasty. My filet was not melt in your mouth, but it was not terrible. The service was a little quirky. At one point the hostess cleared our plates and practically pulled the knife out of my husband's hand. I guess we were done. :) Otherwise it wasn't bad.
Including breakfast was nice since we didn't feel rushed to make it to a restaurant in the early a.m. I was a little worried about it from the other reviews, but it wasn't terrible. Some will be pleased to know they have added oatmeal and fresh cut fruit to the buffet.
Solvang was fun. I doubt we'll be back anytime soon since we pretty much saw everything to see in the 2 days we were there, but if we do, Hadsten House is the place we'll most likely stay.
I love this place. It's quaint and comfy. It has that French Country charm but with modern day amenities (faux fireplace, plasma TV, and free WiFi). The beds were awesome, especially after a long drive.
We're big fans of L'OCCITANE products and were extremely happy to see that they use them as their soaps, shampoos, conditioner, loofas, shower gels, and lotions. All we had to use from our own L'OCCITANE toiletries was our moisturizer!
They also offered us vouchers for a continental breakfast from Olsen's Danish Bakery AND vouchers for a glass of wine and appetizer from their restaurant (per person and night that you stay). The service at the restaurant is a bit slow; so make sure you get their attention if you need anything. Otherwise you'll be waiting forever for service.
The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. If you'll be wine tasting in the area, tell the front desk and they may have 2 for 1 tasting coupons to ones you're planning on visiting.
I will definitely stay here again!

I could go on and on about every aspect of this boutique hotel. First, go to the spa, and get a facial with Andreea (what a talented cutie!) or deep tissue massage with Rich. Next, have a drink and everything on the menu in their restaurant, which by the way will require a reservation because its upscale relaxing decor is beginning to attract every local in the area. Jerry in the kitchen is one of the most talented chefs I have ever had the pleasure of meeting- the muscles, lobster bisque and even the brie plate are perfect to begin your meal. Garlic mashed potatoes and green beans melt in your mouth. If you can, save room for dessert. Afterwards, relax by the indoor pool, or go up to your newly decorated room, with plush bedding and a flat screen tv.
What a fabulous getaway gem!
I stumbled upon Hadsten House during an online search for a place to stay for my first time in Solvang. Couldn't have made a better choice. Great, modern and comfortable rooms (plasma TV; snappy, chic decor, comfy bed--I totally agree with Aya S.'s take on the Restoration Hardware look). Short walk to "downtown" Solvang. The food in the restaurant was very good and the all-around service, from front desk to housekeeping to waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. And the price, for what you get, is reasonable. I liked the drive-up motel quality of it because it made it convenient to get to and from our room, with or without luggage and we didn't have to deal with parking garages, parking fees and the like that you do at non-drive-up hotels.
How sold am I on Hadsten House? A group of friends are putting together a Solvang trip in a few weeks and they're talking about staying at another hotel. I'm going to do my best to sway them to Hadsten. And if they don't want to switch, well, I guess we'll just have to meet up somewhere each morning because I know where I'll be staying . . .
Stopped here on the way to LA from SF, and same great impressions. This time the inn has been completed. Great room, comfortable bed, nicely decorated, great service at the reception, internet works great (although they only guarantee the internet to work in the middle building, with the lobby, restaurant and swimming pool). Very satisfied with this hotel. As I mentioned in my original review, has NO STENCH of any kind, unlike most other hotels in the area that have the sour smell of old. Just a nice, bright, carefully maintained non-smoking property with great lighting, very comfortable bright bathroom, quiet AC and even a faux fireplace. The price we paid was $235 per night + tax- but it was well worth it!

OK, I may not be the first to write a review for this inn, but I will certainly be the first to… Read more »
When we arrived at Hadsten House, (after seeing pics on their website), we were a little bit taken a back that it was like a motel from the outside. Like a drive-up-to-your-room-style. But once we were in the lobby and in our room, we were very pleased. They've really renovated this place well, the color theme being black, white and sage. Classy. The room interior deco's looked like they probably came from Restoration Hardware. The bathroom floor to the sink was all classy. Nice. Tasteful and clean.
The flat screen and the DVD player were a nice touch, as well as the electric fireplace. They have complimentary wine and appetizers in their bar/restaurant which we didn't get the chance to get to since we checked in 30min before they finished that at 5pm. They also give you tickets to a continental breakfast across the street at Olsen's Bakery which is a choice of a roll, a slice of cheese (it was creamy and good!), a choice of one danish and coffee/tea/oj.
Although we didn't have dinner at the hotel restaurant, we stopped by to take a look. It's very chic, dark (chocolate brown theme thruout) and with a wood burning fireplace with leather sofa's around it (for people having drinks), it almost looked like a ski lodge somewhere in Europe. The menu looked really good and we really thought that they should promote their restaurant more with a sign out front or something! As a matter of fact, they should have Customer's Comments card, which they said they didn't have.
Some suggested improvements: 1. The pillows for our king size bed were standard sized, (there were 4 plus 2 decorative pillows) and it was too firm and uncomfortable. 2. They should have more than the Yellow Pages and the Bible in the room like a TV channel guide and a pen and stationery/postcard and why not a menu from their restaurant? or a Solvang Guide Magazine? 3. Also, the man at the front desk was nice although he wasn't really helpful when we asked him about dessert options in town (since most cafe's and bakeries closed at 7), he basically told us about Albertson's(!) in Buellton which is a 5 min drive away. He said he lived in Solvang but said "we don't really go out for dessert". Nuff said.
We were looking forward to using their spa services but ironically, their grand opening was Monday, the day after we checked out. I'm not sure why they would choose to open something on a Monday where I'd think that the core of their customers are weekenders...
Well, this place will be a 5-star hotel after some tuning up here and there but as a whole, I would highly recommend this place to anyone who's going to be in the area.
A former Vagabon Inn in the process of being remodeled. It's a drive-in motel style but with the remodeling going on, we got a fresh new room. The rooms are actually nice and the place is fairly empty. The pool & spa is closed as well as half the unit and the lobby is a demolition zone, but all in all, I am satisfied sitting on the leather chair in the room writing this review with their free wireless internet. I look forward to their complimentary breakfast and highly Yelp acclaimed Olsen's Danish Village Bakery: http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Looking at their website I see they are billing as a "...luxury,
boutique lodging destination". Well, that's a bit of a stretch. I am sure it will be nicer than the previous motel was once the remodeling is complete. But, the walls are thin and it is still a motor lodge at heart and by the nature of it's design. New bathrooms, fresh paint and a few rows of grape vines doesn't make a "...luxury, boutique lodging destination".
