4 reviews for Habu Textiles
I LURV Habu. They are the most innovative and refreshing yarn store (and company) out there yet, at least in terms of what's publicly available.
If I recall correctly, they originally focused on weaving yarns, and moved on to knitting yarns out of the craft's undeniable newfound popularity. However, their reverence for woven cloth is apparent in the yardage for sale in the front and the looms in the back.
Seriously, their yarn is like candy. Pineapple! Paper! Ramie! I have balls and skeins tucked away that I hesitate to make anything with because I love the yarn so much.
Sigh, wish I was first to review. Nonetheless, the best fiber store I have ever been to in the US. I love the Japanese aesthetic, and they always have very interesting yarns, fabric and books for sale. Some are very pricey, but they always have sales and you can manage a good deal once and again. I definitely recommend a visit.
Silk wrapped Stainless Steel Yarn.
Yes, you heard me. Silk and Steel. Now if that isn't the quintessential make a city girl cream kind of yarn, I don't know what is. Originally used as an industrial product to weave oil filters, this gorgeous art yarn is available only at Habu.
Seriously, if you're a Knitterati bored with what the usual commerical yarns and patterns have to offer, get thee to Habu. The Japanese pattern books will open your eyes to a new world and a new way of pattern reading. Their method is completely different than the western pattern writing. Learning is a mind crunch and totally worth the final product, especially if you're armed with some of this glorious Japanese specialty yarn.
RIght now, is their annual sale. It is limited to certain yarns, which are 25% off. Non-sale items are 5% off orders over $100, and 10% off orders over $200. Craftsters, start your engines!
hidden away in mid-town is this small showroom full of the most unique yarns I've ever seen! Japanese textiles have always been at the forefront, and yarns are no exception. If you don't make it there, they are usually present at most of the yarn conventions like Stitches. They have some cool yarns made from paper and metal, and yeah the metal feels really different, but it will outlive you....
