20 reviews for Habana To-Go
I was told to come here for the cuban and the corn, and so I did. The cuban is pretty good, but my favorite cuban remains to be the one from El Castillo De Jagua. Amazing stuff.
The corn on the other hand, oooooh my god. It's worth the hype. Get it. Now. Eat at least two.
This is the freaking BEST CORN I've ever had the pleasure of consuming.
Their Horchata, though, not so much.
But let's focus on the good. I'm a huge fan of roasted corn smothered in butter, but Cafe Habana took this to the next level. Covered in spices and cheese (cotija, I think?), with a lime to squeeze on, I ate two in 10 minutes. Sooo good!
This, along with Shake Shack, is another must-visit whenever we day trip it to NYC.
Corn and Lime Lemonade drink combo!
There is a long line here but if all you need is a corn fix, don't go to the cafe next door, there's an even longer line there.
Cheap and Casual.
I love this place. The corn is amazing and so are the Cuban sandwhiches. Extra points for having genuine Mexican coke!
The Brooklyn location, Habana Outpost, is just as good and even has frozen mojitos.
this place is good and affordable. you can get like 5 cobs of corn for under $10, i dont know why you would, but you could. Cuban sandwich is good.
Loved it. Hot, sweaty, crowded and tasty with gorgeous girls serving and giving waspish blonde new york girls a hard time. Perfect.
After a great time at the New Museum we made our way to Cafe Habana for a quick, tasty lunch before fighting our way back to our apartment in the West Village. Simple but completely satisfying food on a Cuban theme served up by some beautiful girls. I think I mentioned that already. We sat in the take away next door not interested enough to cue up for the trendier corner joint. We shall return.
I come here each time we're in NYC just for the roasted dressed corn. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! We barely bother with the "hipper" Cafe Habana next door as it's always packed but there always seem to be seats vacant here. One of my favorite NYC cheap eatery.
We didn't want to wait for a table at Cafe Habana (on the corner) since we just wanted their corn, so we came here instead. You can seat about 10 people in here MAX. We ordered 4 cuban corns for 4 people, some hibiscus tea drink, and a lime lemonade drink. Let me tell you, the drinks were GROSS. I didn't like it, but my friend did. They taste like watered down juice and I absolutely detest that taste.
Corn on a cob for $1.95 -- decently priced.
The grilled corn (mexican style) has mayo, parm cheese, chili powder, and lime on it. I hate mayo but this was yummy! The toppings on the corn were delish, but the corn itself wasn't sweet. It was mediocre corn. I think I would have enjoyed it more had the corn been sweeter and juicier. I like corn that shoots out corn juices when you bite into it!
I wonder if Cafe Habana (the actual cafe) has better tasting corn...?
Went here on a Friday night so it was pretty busy. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and a corn. The sandwich was the best one I've had in the city (though my experience is limited with Cuban sandwiches), and their corn was ok, a little too mushy if anything.
The price was great as the two came to less than $10, and the sandwich (about $8) was definitely a good size. The food took about 10 minutes to get ready which was pretty good considering the size of the line.
Would've gotten a 5th star if the corn was as good as the sandwich, but I still wish I lived close enough to here to go all the time!
Never heard of it, didn't know it was a smaller version of a store around the corner, and did not read any reviews prior; I just wanted a non-restaurant to sit and enjoy lunch in SoHo.
It was good. $9 sandwich filled me up happily. At times, I felt like I was in a different country due to the relaxed setting, cuban music and funny Elizabeth Street architecture.
Cafe Habana is delicious!
Everything on the menu is good, so I'm not even going to do a play by play of what we ordered. Just get a lot of everything and prepare to be stuffed.
Seating is limited, so don't come in a big group. Or, get your food to go and eat outside.
While walking back from the Streits factory in the LES last weekend, bags of Matzah in tow, we decided to meet a friend for lunch at Cafe Habana. We were met with a 45 minute wait for the restuarant, so we decided to test our luck at the to-go shop. We found three seats at the bar.
While they do not have everyting that the restuarant does (Warren wanted Steak and Eggs and I wanted to try the Spicy Beer I was hearing about), the fried fish sandwich with spicy mayo really did hit the spot. I was craving something fried and greasy, and Cafe Habana sure did deliver. While I would have liked more of the spicy mayo on my sandwich, the jar of deli mustard on the table was a nice touch.
I really wanted to like this place, after the long lines outside the main restaurant and especially after the rave reviews on yelp, but honestly, it was a bit of a let-down.
It was a Saturday morning and we came here, like most people, because the main restaurant was waay too busy. We ordered two of the burritos and the corn. The corn was AMAZING. Soft and tender, juicy and spicy, gooey from the cheese but not gross. Thumbs up on that. The burritos however, were pretty mediocre. They were kinda bland and the sauces to hand were just not spicy enough. The size of the burritos was ridiculous. One burrito could feed 2-3 people. OK im exaggerating, but seriously, it was huge. The whole thing was pretty darn cheap, (I think we had drinks as well but cant remember what).
You can get better burritos at chipotle. I dont think i'll come here again for those. But the corn...mmmmmmmmm.
Took my daughter to this place as their other shop next door had a humongous line outside and she was hungry. I had promised her that we will try their corn on the cob. Even this place was crowded and we got our corn on the cobs after a 20 min wait. The corn was as good as ever, with their traditional cayenne pepper, Lemon juice and some cuban cheese rubbed all over it, though they burn't one side of it, which didn't bother me too much. As it had wetted our epitite, we ordered a round of burgers, which were huge, but had no taste. For cafe habana I guess I was expecting a more cultural taste but this was bland.
Over all experience was so-so, but the evening was nice, so had a good time sitting outside and sinking our teeth in the corn. Definitely go there if you want to try the corn, and their store next door is backed up.
Habana To-Go is right around the corner from Cafe Habana. If you're not up for the wait, crowds or higher prices of Cafe Habana, come on over to Habana To-Go. It caters to take out patrons but there are several tables. You can order almost everything from the Cafe Habana menu except it's the same price or cheaper. Case in point, the grilled corn Mexican style. $3.75 at the cafe, $1.95 at To-Go. It's my favorite new snack and I'm glad I can just come in here and get it.
My sister brought me here to pick up some Mexican style grilled corn to-go. It's a small place that gets pretty crowded. The corn on the cob was big, juicy, and pretty tasty, although I'm not a fan of spiciness, so I avoided the section that was sprinkled with chili powder, but I enjoyed the other parts of it. Another section of the corn was a bit too burnt for my liking, however. Overall, it was a good snack, only I would have enjoyed it more without the chili powder.
Don't know where they get their corn from in March...but it was not good! Yes the seasoning was delic, but the corn was Yuk, maybe I'm just too used to good Jersey Corn! I'd like to try again in July or Aug. when its prime corn season!
I would fly back to New York just to get the corn at this place. I went with a huge group of friends when we visited last year and we had a pork sandwich and of course, the corn on the cob, which everyone would not shut up about. Absolutely divine cheesy flavor party in your mouth. I tell everybody going to or living in New York to eat this.
We wanted to check out Cafe Habana and stumbled across Habana To-Go right next door. We noticed the crowd outside eating their Mexican style grilled corn. Wasn't hungry enough for a full meal so we tried the grilled corn, cuban sandwich and had a lime lemonade. Everything was great and it definitely hit the spot for a quick afternoon snack.
The wait for cafe habana was too long so we tried the to-go cafe. Ordered the cuban sandwich, pork in adobo sauce sandwich, grilled corn mexican style and 2 homemade lime lemonades. Very good sandwiches. I will definitely go back. I wish it was in LA!!!!
