CORN CATFISH N BEER they serve God Food at this place. Too bad they're too GREEN to be open for half the year.
There's a real scene here, though, be warned. Yelp will not let me discuss this further.....
I can not wait to go back to Habana Outpost when it is warm. I went on a cold cold sunday with a couple of friends. I had the special of the day with was spicy shrimp with avocado and beans and rice. It was super yummy. I also had a frozen drink which was yummy. My friends had a burger and a veggie burger which was also yummy. my only gripes are that they are cash only and the bar people seemed...well...high. Which i usually dont mind- but we were in a bit of a rush.
Next time i really want to try the corn!
bonus stars for the crazy eco friendly artwork on the walls and cool bathrooms.
They also have a great outside area...which i wasnt able to try because it was freezing...but next time i'm in town its a must do!

Dear yummy flavored corn, I see you've returned to taunt me again. The taunt stings less though because the weather's nice and you're being sold to me again. You truly are the best two dollars of food on this coast.
Great Brooklyn beer for cheap + fun atmosphere you want to keep coming back to.
Beans and rice and plantains oh my!
Habana Outpost is a great spot for chilling on blue picnic benches surrounded by neon green barbed wire and drinking four sixpoint lights for $10. The djs are usually pretty good, a couple girls on those habana calendars i want to marry and recently i discovered they have pictures of Mohammed Ali and Nicholai Tesla your little kid can color while you drink your said four sixpoints for $10.
I've never had a problem with the vege burger but the burritos can definitely suck balls once in a while. Served cold, salty rice, no beans etc. and way overpriced. One time my friend got "nachos w/ guacamole" and it was a paper plate with maybe 12 chips and a spoonful of guac on the side for like $6.
Last thing ill mention is Habana definitely has the coolest bathroom of any business ive ever been in Brooklyn. I spent 15 minutes in there and i didn't even have to poo! My friends thought that was what i was doing in there but i was really just reading about/admiring their recycled filtration system and taking in the sun and greenery they have hanging everywhere.
Come summer they'll probably be projecting Indiana Jones on the building next door. awesome!
It's been a while since I have been here (about a 1-1/2 years), but it is certainly memorable and fun. You have to come here with a group to really enjoy it and get the most out of it. It is a very lively atmosphere both inside the gates and out. It seems to be quite an eclectc neighborhood -- and in all my years living here in NY, I had never ventured to this neighborhood. And let me tell you, it is a fairly long ride from the South Shore -- you are almost better going into Manhattan and taking either the Williamsburg or Manhattan Bridges to get here because Atlantic Avenue is a hike once you get off the Jackie Robinson.
Habana Outpost is one of those places where you go to grab a bite to eat, and not want to leave. There seems to be so much going on there and it is unique and eco-friendly (think solar powered), to top it off. Who came up with the idea of a "bike blender" for making drinks. It's ingenious! Save yourself a buck and make your own while peddling off the calories that you are about to ingest. Follow it up with an order of their wonderfully famous corn (grilled with spices and spanish cheese -- yummy), a steak burrito (wonderful) or one of their salads which also looked great. They have indoor and outdoor seating (I highly recommend eating al fresco as long as the weather cooperates. The Frozen Margaritas and Mojito's are great as well (although those are not "bike powered"). Oh, and the kids are sure to find something to eat -- they have great Quesedila's (with and without meat), and hot dogs all followed-up by ice cream sandwiches.

Habana Outpost is cute. And who doesn't want to support an eco-friendly food spot?
You'll be grateful for the frozen mojitos and grilled corn on the cob in the summer time. But I always take it and stroll around the neighborhood. It's pretty packed on a summer evening, I don't like having to stake out tables and guard seats and that buppie see-and-be-seen crowd is a lil' too much for me.
If I'm lucky, I can steal a spot on a friend's car hood and watch a film HO has projected onto the wall while I drink myself into summertime happiness.

Seeing that I'm out there constantly trudging through these city streets looking to bring a little light to your lives (or at least some cool shit), I do occasionally run across pure awesomeness. My dear dear friends, while I have neither the time nor desire to suss out whether or not the Habana Outpost is NY's first Eco-Eatery, as it claims, I can absolutely confirm that HO (apparently I haven't the time nor desire to type out whole restaurant names either) fits into the above-mentioned category of pure awesomeness. Running off solar energy, having cups and cutlery made from biodegradable cornstarch, being adorned by bright murals and having a smoothie machine powered by either you or some kid on a bicycle (ATTN: child protective services) is only the tip of the compost pile, er, iceberg of HO's twice mentioned pure awesomeness. There's also a big outdoor patio/cerveza garden that has a local artisan bazaar on the weekends and the joint doubles as a community event space hosting things like summer movie nights, art, and burlesque shows. AND, they have local beers on tap for only $2.50! Since it is technically a restaurant I should mention that the Cuban/pan-Latin food served here is great but it isn't super cheap ($7.75 chicken burrito). That being said, the corn ($2) is so good I'd beat up the kid on the bicycle for it without thinking twice.

Habana Outpost, I miss you!
The neighborhood is quieter, sadder, and far more lonesome without your eclectic cool. How does one cope with a cold Saturday after having tasted your summertime thrills? What does one do on a Sunday night when there aren't any outdoor 80's films to enjoy (Free Popcorn! Star Wars! Cute Boys!)? Where can one find that automatic answer to boredom? The palate yearns for sweet corn coated with cheese, for spicy black beans and mojitos that, after only a few sips, will cause more than a brain freeze. The corner of Fulton & S.Portland now feels like a ghost town - deflated and waiting for the color and life to return from hibernation. We stand at the gates, hoping for them to open and restore us all.
Oh, and if you forget to bring cash - there's a painted atm-machine, just in case.

The best place for people-watching on a summer weekend, with some tasty food and a couple beers.
5 Stars for: Ummm, everything!
Yum yum moritas! The delicious frozen margarita/mojito combo that has you falling off the picnic bench when they close up at midnight (too early, but at least you can never really overstay your welcome).
Yum yum yum corn!!! Their corn is the most delicious thing ever, pretty much.
That's all I can say about that.
But also, I am in love with everything else I have ever had on their menu. Best Cuban sandwich ever, best veggie burrito (with cactus!), best chicken sandwich.
I can't say anything bad about this place. I was already in love with Cafe Habana in SoHo, but after moving to Clinton Hill and coming here I was practically in Heaven.
Also, I love that this place is a true eco-eatery. They really stick to it, but make it fun with cute signs explaining the recycling procedures, etc.
The outdoor movie screenings on Sunday nights sometimes get a little overcrowded, which is understandable of course, but any other night of the week I've managed to find a little corner of a table at least (people are usually willing to scootch over for you, fortunately).
Just loveliness, all around. That's all.

An eco-friendly eatery that has a bike-for-your-smoothie option. Only opened for 6 months a year, it's a Fort Greene institution. Go on an warm evening with close buds and enjoy the festive atmosphere outside and dine on Cuban-style corn and frozen mojitos.

Cuban-style corn is great. Usually get the tofu veggie burrito. Sometimes gets crowded, but never has taken me too long to get my food from the truck. Such a great experience. Definitely worth while for people-watching alone. CASH ONLY though. Cannot wait to see you again, next summer....

What a perfect way to end the night! Habana Outpost could possibly be my new best friend. Not only it conveys a fun, lax and colorful (compliment definitely intended) environment, but the food is fantastic and the frozen mojitos were hijacked from Zeus personal kitchen on Mount Olympus; this could well be the BEST frozen mojito I've ever tried, so it must, must belong to the gods!
Even though the place was packed we still found sitting outside, and right in front of the big wall; as it turns out, they have movie screenings via projector of several and even quirky oldies (next week is Star Wars btw), I ordered the special platter which had grilled shrimp, black pinto beans, rice and avocado and it was absolutely delicious! Michelle had a veggie burger that I forgot to try, but will next time. (They are also famous for the grilled corn, although I didn't try it)
Another AMAZING plus is the fact that this outpost is apparently totally eco friendly; they have solar panels surmounted on one of the tents, the garbage disposal section is geared for recycling and it even has a huge drawing to indicate how you must dispose of your garbage (in a totally non-cumbersome way), the tables are made with recycled soda cans, and last but not least, there is a smoothie stand outside, which is powered by....a bicycle!!! How could you not love Habana Outpost?? People are also very friendly, and a nice couple sat on our table, talked to us and even exchanged numbers??!!
Definitely a place that makes me wish for an extended summer; once the cold sets in, the outside party is gone, so come and try it while we still have two weeks or so of nice weather. You'll thank me in Spanish!

3.5 stars.
Habana Outpost is a great place for cheap beer and good eats on a summer afternoon or evening. This is the Brooklyn outpost of the popular Cafe Habana, where people often find themselves waiting for an hour for a table. I was excited to find that another Habana outfit was located conveniently two train stops from my apartment. In a city full of $7 standard beers, it's a treat to find a place that has 3 kinds of beer on tap (Brooklyn Sixpoint) for just $2.50! Although the "mexican-style" grilled corn isn't exactly like the authentic yummy elote I used to get from the corner elote man when I lived in San Deigo, it's tasty, albeit mayo-y. The sandwiches are huge - I'd split them with someone. The rest of the menu is a very very abbreviated version of Cafe Habana's, and almost all of the items are less than $10.
During busy times and in beautiful weather, you'll stand around waiting for space at one of the many outside tables. Not a problem when you're just drinking, but a little problematic when you're trying to hold your food and a beer while eating and scanning for a table. The crowd is fun and lively. And honestly, this place had the most diverse crowd I've seen in NYC - it was like hanging out in SF or in Oakland.
There are two lines: one is for beverages and food and the other is strictly for beverages so you can get your drink on quicker. CASH ONLY. It closes at midnight (so early!) 6 days a week, closed on Tuesday.

How can you not love this place? Go with people you really like, make it a crowd, and you'll be giving Habana Outpost five stars, just like me.
This place reminds me of why I love Brooklyn. It's kind of like San Francisco meets Oakland, depending on the neighborhood. Lots of folks of color, plenty to do, laid back, and it's got that neighborhood feel to it.
What we did at Habana Outpost was we just ate grilled corn (the kind that's topped with sour cream and cheese and lemon juice) and threw back some frozen mojitos. Summer weather, great crowd, lots of eye candy, families and doggies and friends gathered around. Habana brings it together.

Really freakin' HOT indoors, and outdoors, on a sunny day you'll have to deal with the beaming sun. But in the evening it's a nice and chill spot. The drinks are okay and the food is just as good as their SoHo location. DELICIOUS GRILLED CORN. It's a real friendly low-key cool peeps type place, definitely a good look. Wish it was in my hood. Points for being an eco-friendly, solar powered establishment.

All the cool kids go to Habana Outpost to drink frozen mojitos from a machine and eat grilled corn at picnic tables. It's probably the most awesome place in my neighborhood during the summer, but I had to take away a star because I'm pretty sure it's only open in the summer. That's the downside to being a solar powered, primarily outdoors space. The upside is that it is, as previously stated, completely awesome.
The idea is that it's a "community space", so they do things like letting people sell stuff inside on the weekends and call it an "open air market". They also have movie nights and other fun stuff. I would probably be here every day if I could actually convince my Manhattanite friends to go to other parts of Brooklyn besides Williamsburg.

Kudos to Habana Outpost for bringing this eco-friendly version of their popular Cafe Habana to Brooklyn.
This is a cute, casual joint to eat at. Contrary to another review, there actually is cool air-conditioned seating inside. (Much welcomed on a hot summer day) Or you can hang out in the front outdoor area where the flea market is. There was also a dj spinning when I visited on the weekend. Atmosphere is very laid-back, even for Brooklyn.
Food is tasty and reasonably priced. Drafts of local Six Point beer are super cheap. I think $2.25 a cup?
As others here have mentioned, all utensils, cups, plates, etc are made of recycled products and the booths are wrapped in old sails.
Now I can feel good about doing something for the environment as I'm stuffing my face.

I love the frozen mojitos, and the food hasn't done me wrong. It gets really packed in the place, but i've never had to wait for a table. Most people prefer to sit outside; it's a bit tiny, and the experience isn't the same indoors.
I like that it's a "green" eco-friendly restaurant. While this doesn't necessarily affect my decisions to choose Habana Outpost over other places, it does make me feel like a better human for supporting an environmental movement while getting trashed.
Habana Outpost is a fun little spot. The food is not outrageously good, but the frozen mojitos & margs are delicious and the atmosphere is really fun. It's not a place to go for a knockout meal, but it serves as a great setting for a fun night out with friends. The eco-friendly vibe is interesting, and the decor is fun -- picnic tables, rainbow-colored umbrellas, and the like. I really enjoy the crowd here, which is generally low-key and diverse -- there's always good people-watching. My only real complaint is that it closes at midnight! Boo.
Gotta love this place FOR WHAT IT IS. And not what it isn't. And for being so different than other places. WHO CARES that they serve burritos and still call themselves Habana Outpost? Who cares that the mojito isn't real, it's frozen because it's HOT outside.
Besides where else can you get a frozen mojito, grilled shrimp AND sit outside in an unpretentious space?
The only caveat I noticed was that it closes absurdly early. MIDNIGHT. Really? I work late, I'm a waitress, where am I to go after my shift?
I try not to review a place that already as more than 10 reviews, but I just had to drop a few lines on one of my favorite places to hang out in Fort Greene.
A Review in Convenient List Format:
- $2.50 cups of Sixpoint beers (Get two at a time, per person. Why not?)
- Frozen froo-froo drinks (If you are into that; they can be really refreshingly icy on these summer days -
"Dude, I want a Slurpeee!" "Okay, let's hit up The 'Post")
- Diverse mix of clientele
- Dog-/Kids-friendly (Amusing to watch mothers bring their kids to the place while throwing back a few)
- Movies on Sunday evenings
- Fun out-doorsy bathrooms
- Cute blonde girl behind the counter who's always smiling
- Couple of guys sweating in a trailer churning out tasty sammies/dishes from the grill (Cubano, Diablo, Oscar's Special, etc: You name it, you'll love it)
Good food and layout, though the ordering process is bizarre and inefficient (order inside, pay inside, get drinks inside, give receipt to a food truck outside, wait around for your name to be called at very low volume), which basically just leads to long lines of very confused people.
That aside, the food is pretty good (although their famous corn wasn't as good as it was pitched to me) and seating is communal and pretty easy. Good find for hanging out near the park.
I love this place! It's totally cute with the bright colors, lights, and flowers on the painted barbed wire. I loved my quesadilla, the corn really is worth the trip, and hello frozen mojito, where have you been all my life?
This place is amazing.
Although i believe its called Havana Outpost, and not Habana Outpost.
Either way, its great. Being that i live around 5 blocks from the cute little eco-friendly place which is only open from May until Novemberish, its the perfect spot to come with a big group of friends and just hang out outside and mingle with some cool strangers around you.
Have yet to try their mojitos but what ive heard, they are amazing. The corn with cheese and spicy sauce is incredible.but then again, anything with cheese for me is incredible.
nice, friendly hangout place for anyone who wants to chill before going out and listen to some live DJing

I really shouldn't be giving this four stars, but I am, so whatever.
The deal with this place is this: it claims to be New York's first solar-powered restaurant and flea market. I didn't see any of this flea market business, but the concept intrigued me.
So, you walk into the place and order at the counter. They have a few drafts (two of which were Brooklyn brewed when I was there), and frozen margaritas and frozen mojitos (they were out of mojito the night I was there) on tap as well. The food, I guess, is Cuban, but it's much more of a "bought it on a street" Cuban than "ate it in a restaurant" Cuban. This place puts on no airs though, so I won't fault them for that.
Okay, so now that you've ordered, you take your receipt outside to the open-air area and hand it to the cook (was his name Oscar?) and wait for it to be cooked.
I personally think that this is very cool. The plasticware is made of recycled sugar cane...actually, pretty much everything is recycled. They even have a bus person working there to assure that the garbage (which is then all recycled or composted) makes it into its designated compartment.
The food is all right, but everyone I was with who had anything with chicken in it complained that it was too dry or burnt. Coming from Chicago where neighborhoods and people are far more segregated, I've never had a corn cob on a stick before, so that was really cool. I thought that the catfish burrito was really good. And the beer.
this place is major!
& the slushies are really, really good.
... I keep telling my friends about this place.

The scene: multi-racial hipsters with the coolest hair you've ever seen. Local watering hole for the neighboring Fort Greene artists. One of the bathrooms has no ceiling. It's tranquil and clean in there. You can look up and see stars and planes, a fantastic restroom experience.
The cuban sandwich didn't look very cuban, but the fries are freshly cut, and the grilled corn is sweet as summer with generous cheese, paprika, and a wedge of lime. The music is straight up Latin and facilitates a steady drinking binge. A note on the mojitos and margaritas: both are $7 each and only available frozen from a machine, like alcoholic Icees from 7-11. The mojito is surprisingly tasty, but sweet and quick-melting. The margarita is strong and bitter on the rum (or is that every margarita?).
The tables are made of recycled cans and bottles. They compost the leftover food. And after you eat the corn, they use the cob to make the plastic cup for your mojito. This last part is speculation after reading the disclaimer on our plastic cup ("This cup is made of corn").

What a great idea that is executed horribly.
I love the idea of an eco-friendly restaurant that serves great food. Too bad they didn't stick with the tested solutions to ordering and serving food. The place is horribly organized. There are no real signs and simple roped lines would work wonders, once you order you hand deliver a ticket to the cooks, who seemed to lose one in three orders. Whatever happened to waitresses? Or even an organized system for getting the cooks the orders and checking if the correct people pick up the order?
The food was good, but not worth the pain in the ass.

Doesn't hold a candle to the Manhattan location.
Negatives: The Mexican corn, which is the staple at Cafe Habana on Prince St, is a sad facimile. Way too much cheese, not enough Mayo, weak corn cobs. Disappointing. The Cuban Sandwich can only be described mediocre at best. Also disappointing. The fried plantains, which are so good at the Manhattan location, here--feh.
Positives: The frozen mojito rocked. Great outdoor nabe atmosphere. Less hipsters than when I first went two years ago.
Too bad, I really wanted to support the Bklyn location. I'll be back for drinks perhaps.
i feel bad giving habana this many stars.
the food was ok, nothing spectacular. it was reasonably priced, i guess. the lemon salad was WAY too sour. Make your face turn inside out sour. burritos are pretty large but taste is a different story (burritos at a cuban place? huh?). Mojitos are 8.50 for about 6 ounces - FYI - a frozen mojito is not a real mojito, sorry.
The blend your own smoothie is a cool option (its done on a bike - your pedaling provides the power for the blender) - and its an extra buck if they have to blend it.
nice patio area to hang out on a nice day. plus the vendors on weekends is a nice touch. bonus points for being (mostly? not sure if its entirely) run off solar. i highly doubt those 4 panels run the building and cart outside.
if you want to kill a few hours sitting outside with expensive drinks, unimpressive food, but feel good because its an eco-friendly place, you found yourself a home. they get 3 stars for trying.

The only thing better than Cafe Habana is Cafe Habana outdoors, in Brooklyn! Its a great public space with fenced in picnic tables, an old stationary taco truck where you pick up your food orders, open air toilets that channel summer camp, and a very cool, very Brooklyn crowd.
The corn is the same as the Habana in Nolita, thank god. The rest of the menu is a little different. The food line can get long, even on sunny weekdays, but luckily the line for beers or frozen machine made drinks is much shorter.
The movies are very cool too, they project the image about 25 feet up on the brownstone next door.... like I said, very Brooklyn.

But the outdoors area is really fun during warm weather.

The Habana Outpost is a great place on a sunny afternoon. They only have outdoor seating. They have benches set up with big umbrellas to cover you up. Overall, the food is pretty good.. but the corn on the cob is fantastic. The frozen margaritas are good, too--not too sweet, pretty light green color, blended well and enough alcohol to not warrant a complaint.
The mood at the Habana Outpost--especially on a sunny weeeknd day--is so happy, its hard not to have a good time.

The Brooklyn offshot of Cafe Habana - this eco-friendly eatery is the perfect go-to location on a Sunny day. On the corner of Fulton and South Portland street in Brooklyn, it's an easy subway ride from practically any Manhattan location and boy is it worth it. Enclosed in a playground-like open air corner, patrons pay and order inside and pick up their grilled corn, salads, quesadillas, and other delicious eats outside from the solar powered cooking truck where your name is called out through speakers when ready. A fountain, colorful benches and swings are scattered in the yard outside for you to hang out and leisurely eat your steaming corn (the same delicious one as the Nolita Cafe Habana location, but somehow better eaten under the sun) as music blares from the speakers outside. Smoothies are delicious, free, and made by the cutest boy, Tyler, who puts fresh fruit in a bike-powered blender and starts biking to blend your fresh smoothie together. The food itself is amazing, but it's fun, leisurely atmosphere and eco-friendly ways makes it even more ridiculous.
