The fish here is always good. I ordered the London special 2 pieces of fish and chips and clams only. The fish is real cod not some other white fish. It's light flaky tender fish with that crispy mouthwatering texture. I put malt vinegar and it just oozes into each crevice and doesn't make the fish soggy. I put a little tartar sauce on and it was the perfect combination. The fries were more of a bed for the fish. I wasn't much into them. The clams were served in a little red and white tray . They were sweet and crispy out and tender inside. Very filling meal. I had called in advance for pickup and it was ready when I got there. The gentleman they answered the phone took my order and was very pleasant to talk to. He asked me how long until I arrived I said about 7 minutes being I was picking up McDonalds for the grandkids. I recommended calling in your order or doing directly inside because it's made fresh to order.

H and Salt fish n chips located in San Bernardino is ok.
Staff/employees are not very engaging, which can feel like their not welcoming or friendly.
We opted on 2 daily specials for 9.99
& 1 fish and chicken combo 8.99 and a side of hushpuppies 6 for 3.59. 1 large fountain drink about 3 bucks and small was about 2 bucks. Can't remember the exact price.
Guy, taking our order messed up on the price, so he had to ask for help.
The lady who came to help figured out the problem but belittled him in front of me, which was super uncomfortable for the both of us.
The lady apologized for his mishap but continued to tell the guy why did he do it this way.
I just wish she had pulled him aside to talk to him.
Not that she was being loud, but people shouldn't put others on the spot in front of customers.
It's just makes it weird for everyone involved.
The food was hot and fresh.
The fish was just ok.
Nothing special and needed seasoning, but the batter was extra crispy.
Fries were the frozen kind you buy at your grocery store freezer isle. So we all agreed that fresh fries would have been way better because it is a fish and chips restaurant.
Hubby said the chicken was ok and agreed the fish was alright but needed something.
Mom thought it was ok.
We all agreed the fried zucchinis were good because they were thick and not mushy.
The hushpuppies were not that great.
Overall, it was an ok spot for a quick bit to eat but probably will not recommend or return.Helpful 62Thanks 3Love this 38Oh no 4 - Paul M.San Bernardino, CA2230Apr 12, 2024
Crisp and hot, just like I remember, especially with the malt vinegar. Good tartar sauce too. Slow service when it gets busy, but worth the wait.

It's a small "order at the counter" place, so don't expect a party setting. But the food was great, from the crispy catfish to the fried oyster (careful with the hot juice) and zucchini. the cole slaw was zesty and the hand made fries were fresh oil fried (everything was) and 5inch long lol. We had to try it on a RV trip and we will go back next time we drive by to Big Bear.

I've been coming here for 30 years. Off and on. Excellent fish and chips. Fried fresh to order. Interior looks like it did in the '70s. Hasn't changed.

This place is such a little gem that's been here for years. My father and I are big fans of fried foods and especially seafood and he's been bringing me since I was a kid. The foods always made to order and fresh, the batter is light and it's crispy with good flavor. The fries are always good. Owners are very nice people as well. One of those places that has kept its style the same for years and doesn't need a change at all because it fits so well and is unique. Little hole in the wall places like this are my preferred places to eat over other chains.

There aren't many of these left. H Salt Fish & Chips was a very large fish and chips franchise based in California until the company that owns KFC purchased it in a very large restaurant deal and then accidentally ran it into the ground in a way that I'm not even sure was that accidental. So stepping into one of the last vestiges of a great empire is very interesting, like visiting the Byzantine Empire in 1444 A.D., presumably with Colonel Sanders standing in for Pope Innocent III.
Anyways, you're getting fast food fried fish - that shouldn't be a surprise. Comes out quickly. If you eat it right away, which you really should when it comes to fried foods because they lose their fresh appeal very quickly, then it's absolutely great. They've got tapatio sauce, tartar sauce, and malt vinegar. Personally I like the malt vinegar the most (in theory, it's the healthiest condiment, but if you're worried about your diet, you probably shouldn't be getting fish and chips..), and they were pretty fine with just giving me more and more malt vinegar to spray all over my food.
I got the turbo fried combo that gives you both fish and shrimp - both were pretty good. I don't even like seafood, but both the fried fish and friend shrimp ended up essentially inhaled by me. The whole thing also came on top of crinkle fries, and those were pretty good. Larger crinkle fries are the best type to dip into malt vinegar, because it can really soak into the potatoy parts. Only downside is that large amounts of malt vinegar low key demolish the paper sauce dipping cup.
Anyways, good, cheap, tasty, and fast. A solid place for a quick meal. Also very easy parking, the parking lot is basically deserted, yet massive. Possibly becomes a pvp zone late at night, but the store isn't open that late, so who cares.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Newk R.Crestline, CA1123343Jul 16, 2023
Delicious food! The best crunchy fish and shrimp! Fresh, and hot! The coleslaw was made really good too it tasted so good! The sitting area is totally old school looking but it's clean and they have a great running air conditioner! Can't wait to go back! Prices were decent too!

I am a fan of long John silvers and felt like crying when they shut them down out here. I recently heard of this spot and was told I had to try them. I am glad I stoped by. The crunch on the batter is amazing. I like my food salted prior to cooking so that was the downfall here but their tartar sauce saved the fish. I'd go back for that fish and sauce. They offer takeout which would be my next order. I sat in the car back and we got hit with kitchen smoke which hurt a bit. They turned on the fans and helped clear the air some. Music was low and chill and service was quick and friendly.
