"Mercury Lending has served all my mortgage needs. The staff is excellent and professional and had no problems helping me get the mortgage…" read more »
One word sums up the whole HR Block experience: assrape. Yes, I said it: assrape. That is pretty much what you're getting if you go to this or any other HR Block tax prep chain retardation shacks. Let's compare me doing my taxes last year vs. this year:
Last year: went to HR Block on Van Ness. I made appt. for 2PM and wasn't seen till 3PM. I have flashbacks to when I had Kaiser. Finally I am seated and my "tax professional" is eating a fucking 12 inch subway sandwich as he's reading my tax docs. He looked at my 1099 and literally said, "What is this?" It's then that I realized I was about to get FUCKED. I have a pretty simple tax situation, but the guy couldn't figure out how to input relocation income. I could have literally gone quicker if he let ME input it into his computer. After two hours, we finally get to the refund portion and he tells me I owe $1,000......and I owe them $200 for the professional tax service. And he had mustard on his face.
This year: I'm in a larger bracket than I was last year. I spend $30 on turbotax online. I'm done in 30 mins. And I get a $1700 refund. And I'm wasted. Only in America.
HR Block: where eagles go to get raped.

In a word, a NIGHTMARE. My experience with this branch last year was so horrible that I actually called their corporate and district offices and complained. (not that anything was done about it, probably).
I know I probably wasn't the easiest candidate last year: I had just moved to CA, and had a lot of out of state income statements because well, actress=bartender/waitress/retail whore that has acting gigs on the side.
Also, I had an appointment for Sunday, which was bad-news because I got stuck with the part-time/only shows up for tax season freelance guy. But it was Feb. so I thought, no pressure here. The tax person was nice enough but was overwhelmed with the paperwork. So f'in overwhelmed that he didn't send my income statements to my previous state/district (DC).
Try to imagine the shock of getting a letter stating from the local DC government that my income tax was filed without supporting documentation so I had to head BACK to the store during the height of last-minute-tax prep to get my paperwork. And had to deal with a inept receptionist who would not release my file to me. She finally threw my file at me after several denials after, fed-up, I DEMANDED to see an actual tax professional who told the secretary she did have to give me my file so I could send the paperwork to DC. So, at the front desk (not even an offer of a chair or table) I had to go through all of the paperwork personally to pull all of my income statements in front of customers who could probably see all of my personal information (SS#, address) as I'm frantically pulling statements in front of an evil receptionist who is GLARING at me.
NEVER AGAIN!!! I could have done a better job myself but I thought I would leave it to a professional. HA!
Oh, and did I mention I paid out the nose for such shoddy work and horrible customer service?

They made paying my back taxes as painless as it was gonna get and at a nominal fee to boot. They are very knowledgable and I look forward to fling my taxes for this year with them online...when I'm actually gonna get some money back outta the government. So yeah when you need to do your taxed this place will minimize the hurt and mazimize your free time. Pretty rad really
they made doing my taxes very, very painless. and it was my first time, so I appreciated that. A lot. I was expecting it to hurt real bad. But now I'm $1000+ richer thanks to my tax return :D
.... and I did it all using HR Block online.

They were closed, and yet they still saw me. Totally didn't have to do that. I've gone to this one for three years now, and they do a good job of taking the time to dumb down everything that was going on, at my request of course. I'm a word girl. Numbers frighten me.

My husband has his own business at home, and though we moved from SF, we still go in to see David at HR Block on Van Ness, rather than the HR Block where we live.
Not to say we might not go to the one in Santa Rosa, but at this point, they know us and we feel more comfortable there so far.
