H & M knows how to have an effn' sale! I bought so much stuff for cheap!
I made the special trek to this store because I got a new job and need to start dressing like an adult. H & M is a great place to buy work clothes because they're nice and inexpensive. Also they are young and not boring ole work clothes.
The non-work clothes are good but some times a little cheesy for my taste. You can find some cute stuff though. My boyfriend complains the mens department is lacking - but i don't care!
minus one star for not having a store in Oregon..I mean WTF.
When there is more than one H&M in a zip code, each store gets more tailored to the neighborhood. More "professional" clothes in the business districts, more "hipster" clothes in the funky parts of town.
Unfortunately, Seattle's sole H&M is a mash-up of everything they've got, and it does not work. H&M's clothing is inconsistent at the best of times, and I have found it impossible to buy anything from this particular store.
I used to love you, H&M, but this store is too migraine-tastic for me.
I found this place to be nothing more than a fancier-looking European Forever 21. The clothes are cheap, and fit funky and nothing is strikingly cute.
I'm not really sure what all the hype is around this place anymore, unless this location is just a special exception.
I'll be in Europe in a couple of weeks and will report back.
Some of my favorite pieces of clothing are from here. I bought a little black dress for $30, a suit for under $100, and I just bought a beautiful purple sweater for $25. I was even in here just hours before my flight to Europe, freaking out about not having anything stylish to wear in Paris. Luckily I walked out with a cute little beige jacket and light-purple scarf that I love. There's plenty of stuff here I don't like (most of the tops) and I really wish their downstairs wasn't hipster haven. And the U-village location is a bit classier and less crowded. But I still usually check this place first whenever I need a new item.
I love going into this store on my lunch break. I have gotten a few work clothes staples here, like blouses and nice sweaters. The fit nice and seem to last longer and look great even after you wash them. I have gotten a few of their ear rings and really like their funky style. I love the downstairs area with all the funky colorful styles even if I do not buy anything I get ideas!
This place is great. If you're only coming here for a pencil skirt why not just walk your ass down to the Old Navy you slob. Great basics and chic accessories with a helpful staff. Seattle has been devoid of this place until recently. If you want to be as hip as New York, Chicago, and SF then please ladies dress the part. -1 star for only having size 2's and 14's left in what I was coming in for. This girls got an ass but not a size 14.
H&M, i looooove you.
hip and trendy clothes, affordable pricing.
i was able to get some well fitting work clothes. a chic black blazer that fit and didn't cost me my arm and a leg (i would never do that...the jacket would fit so oddly!), i should've bought 3. i got some nice work shirts too, to wear underneath.
do you know the retail trick where the most expensive items in the store are on the right side, as soon as you walk in the front door? it's because most people have a tendancy to attack a store going counter-clockwise. well, H&M doesn't play that game! i found some deals in their sale racks right in front. it was awesome.
the staff were super freindly and helpful with finding sizes, something that can't really be said of the stores in san francisco or new york...also, the store was not insanely busy and i didn't have to wait in line to try on clothes! i don't think i had ever been to an H&M anywhere in the world and just waltzed in to the fitting room... maybe it had something to do with it being a wednesday afternoon...?
and super mega bonus...this is where i found out that if you're from oregon (with valid id) they don't charge you sales tax! WIN!
H&M= Hit & Miss.
They really need to regulate their sizing. Sometimes a large fits, sometimes a large is made for someone half my size.
It's really tightly packed in this location and I get kind of claustrophobic when I go in there. I've been to a few H&M's in Manhattan and they are SO much better!
This place is frustrating. I've heard many accolades from my friends about the H&M stores in Frisco, Chicago, and NYC. So I was thrilled when I discovered I was getting one in my own little downtown backyard.
The good: the pricing is great. I mean dress shirts for $19? Dress slacks for under $30? You can put together an entire suit for less than $100. Their pricing matches Old Navy but the cut and selection is miles apart.
The bad: After the initial thrill of the store opening wore off, I begin to notice the selection is not so great. The men's clothing is relegated to the bottom floor hidden away in the back. Each time I visit, the men's section gets smaller and smaller as more and more women's clothing takes over. C'mon! Guys buy clothing too.
Maybe I'm getting old but the men's clothing seems geared towards a 18-21 year old crowd with a hideous retro 80s slant. Gold Members Only style jackets? Pink T-shirts? Acid washed jeans? And don't get me started on how frustrating it is that none of the special designer collections are offered here. I totally would have bought some Comme Des Garcons!
Then there's the sizing. I wear a 31 inch waist (I can't believe I just admitted to that!). However a size 31 in some of their pants do not fit me. I can barely get the zipper halfway up and forget about buttoning it. Yet when I try a size 31 in a different cut or style of pants they fit perfectly. What's up with that? I typically end up buying a size 33. I know it's about the fit, not the size but if I KNOW I wear a size 31 and I have to buy a size 33 instead, it's a huge self image deflator. Maybe size 31 is the new size 28. Maybe those frighteningly skinny hipster types I see in the store need to believe they're a size 31 instead of a size eat something for god's sake 27.
Then there's the atmosphere. The last few times I went in the music was so loud I couldn't hear myself think. And it's not even good music to boot. Like another reviewer stated, the store seriously smells like ass! Seriously! There is a definite "butt funk" in the air that I've noticed on several visits. There are maybe two mirrors in awkward locations and the store is cramped, cluttered, crowded. You have to strategically manuever around the mobs of people squeezing through the narrow aisles and waiting in line for the dressing room to get to the escalator (or shove them out of the way as some people are wont to do here).
Speaking of which, let's talk about the dressing rooms. I don't know about the main floor but on the lower floor there's only FOUR dressing rooms. Are you kidding me? I refuse to wait 45 minutes to an hour to try on three pairs of pants and a T-shirt. I know it's some lame marketing ploy to make the store look busy but it's stupid. One time there was a guy in the dressing room for over an hour. He had his sister or fag hag or whatever running back and forth tossing piles of clothing through the door at him. I seriously thought they were going to incite a riot judging by the annoyed and pissed off looks on the faces of those waiting in line.
I find myself buying the clothes, trying them on at home, and hoping for the best. I think I've actually returned more items than I have kept.
Overall, H&M hasn't lived up to its hype. I really thought it was going to offer up some fun, cool, fresh, and exciting European fashions at Old Navy prices. Well, you still get the Old Navy prices but the fashions, even though cut a bit better, are just as bland as Old Navy.
Probably won't go back there anytime soon. It's just not worth the frustration.
This H&M is a huge disappointment. Until the buyers for this store take a hint and understand that the people up here in the PNW want the SAME stuff that they sell at the H&M in SF or NYC, well... I give up.
I've been to the H&Ms in Paris and London, Barcelona and Tokyo and the selection in those stores is almost always impressive. I'm not asking for them to sell what they sell over seas into our US Market. While I would absolutely be thrilled if they did, I understand that that's not the way it works, unfortunately. I'm just asking for something other than their basics selection that seems to take over most of the downtown location.
It's always crazy and cramped... and very, very messy. I have found nothing here that I want, the exception being a scarf and even then, they never seem to have it in the right color.
Even the Klackamas Town Centre H&M (about 1/2 hour from Vancouver) has a better selection... and they're out in the 'burbs!
In every other H&M in any other state, I almost always walk in and am able to pick out 3 or more items to at least try on. Seattle's downtown attempt is unimpressive and I won't be back anytime soon.
I miss Kenneth Cole.
Stupid, stupid & stupid...
It was as crowded as Nordstrom's Rack, as cheesy as Old Navy as well-maintained as Ross and offered nothing different than any of the above.
More sweatshop outlets.... yeah! I just wanted to pee on the floor and leave.
So, in all honesty, I hate clothes shopping in general; this was worse than normal.
Thanks, but no thanks.
I have enjoyed shopping at other H&M's in Vancouver, San Francisco, and Portland...this location YIKES!? The selection for men just wasn't there and they didn't have any of the smaller sizes which tend to fit me well.
H&M normally offers a really good selection and offer a variety of sizes, but this particular location was just really lacking....Personally, I'd make the trek to the Downtown location which is marginally better.
Um, hi? I'm a size 12. Do you have anything in my size? Oh my, you DO? Oh, and it's only $10???
You mean I can find something at a fancy department store downtown that actually fits me, and for under $50??? Granted, my options are limited, but they usually are. Nothing new. I usually get my trendy fashion kick at F21, but I think this may be my new favorite. The staff was very helpful and the store was VERY clean.
I'll go back. Guess I might have to check out some of the other locations, as well!
Holy crap I'm so glad nobody else can fit in their pants either...
Jesus. One HOT MESS. I was looking for a regular decent hoodie and wandered in here. I don't think I will ever step foot in here ever again. It was absolutely nuts. Girls cutting me off to get on the single file escalator. It was massive sensory overload and I did not like it.
I'm sure there is a plethora of good finds and crap, but I have no patience for that. I'm not a people person when the people are rude and dumb.
RIDICULOUS.
I am only giving this H&M 5 stars because it is about the first H&M I've entered into where I found clothes of my size that I wanted to buy! This H&M is awesome because of its enormous collection of clothes and abundant supply of small sizes that are normally not available in my local H&M stores.
I think besides this, H&M itself is probably a 3.5 - 4 star place because it is generally very difficult to find a great clothing item for an appropriate price and appropriate quality but once in a while you do get a jem. Their scarves, for example, are fantastic! for $12.50 you get the same kind, style, quality, fashion scarf that you'd have to pay $40.00 or more elsewhere at those over priced places. Definitely a thumbs up.
Once upon a time, I got one of the prettiest scarves that I own. A beautiful, colorful, warm and nice present I use as much as I can when the bad, bad winter hits. This great accessory has an H&M tag. Because of that, I decided to go check out their new store in downtown.
OMG! What a load of cheap, cheap, cheap stuff (note that I'm not using the word I really want to use). The clothes are ugly. The fabrics aren't pretty or soft or anything worth a compliment. The dynamics for displaying the products are impossible to understand. Everything was crammed. There was nothing there (but the knitted accessories) that was worth anybody's money. The smell of poly, plastic and metal blended in uneasy confusion is...(lack of words).
If you like to watch and participate in those "people zoo" places, where a dozen androids and teeny boopers bump into you without making a single effort to apologize...run, you got H&M downtown!
What a waste of time. Even though I don't patronize American Apparel that often, after I exited H&M I ran into their store across the street and spent at least 20 minutes rubbing real cotton and jersey against my cheeks.
I felt a little like an uptight bourgeoisie. But this time, it wasn't a bad feeling. I can't stand when big corporations feed people with cheap, bad, bad cheap.
Now that I've been into this store a dozen times since its opening, I'm knocking my review down from 4 stars to 3...and here's why.
* They don't rotate their stock very often -- they just put it in a different place! The white split-neck blouse I bought in March was still out (and rockin a full price tag) -- I was amazed it wasn't clearance yet.
* Apart from the accessories nook and the "suit-y" room (blazers, button-downs, etc.), their sense of organization needs serious help. I was in yesterday and they had everything grouped by COLOR. What is that about??
* The dressing room lines are always, always, always long. I don't know what can be done to remedy this...but be ready to stand in line.
I like shopping here, but I'm tired of seeing the same things every time I come in. I'll still visit, but definitely not as often.
Handbags and shoes for around $25 to $30.
Accessories ranging from around $3 to $20. (I found a pair of red hoop earrings for $4.)
A dress for $30.
Gloves, hats, and scarves for the impending cold weather in some awesome colors and cool textures.
The t-shirts are soft and fit well.
None of this stuff is timeless or classic.
It's trendy and it's cheap.
WOMEN'S CLOTHING REVIEW ONLY:
I hate spending a ton of money on pencil skirts for work. I never wear them anywhere except to the office, so why spend a bunch? This is where H&M comes in my life.
For everyday clothes though, H&M is not a place I typically shop. For girls, the clothes are very trendy and not made well. But they are really low in price.
For work clothes though, H&M does a surprisingly good job. I mean-for the basics. I wouldn't buy a suit here...but skirts, simple blouses..this place is a-ok.
The stuff here is total crappo. Sure its cheap but when you try it on, or just touch it you realize it's like the IKEA of clothes. Take your 50 bucks and go to Value Village and get something nice that will last.
This place smells like ass.
I have no idea why but there was definite funk when I got a whiff of the downstairs section. Two times! Weird what people put up with to get decent-priced clothes but do they even take a second to sniff the merch?
Be prepared for long lines at the register and the dressing room.
The location earns it a star because its a great place -- Urban Outfitters, Adidas, Nordstrom, Ross, Old Navy, Gap, two other shopping malls etc. are all within walking distance. Still, this place smells.
I went on opening day and I just wasn't that impressed. I did grab a couple of things, it's just that there is so much and you really have to get in there and dig. It's very young, but there is some stuff that is funky and mature enough to wear to work.
Also, the baseball t's are the best!!! I love em!
Go with lots of time because it takes forever to get into a room and forever to really find the good stuff! I'm glad they've finally come to Seattle!
They just opened this one the day before I got into town... so I had to stop by.
It is the brink of a new season, the winter coats look fabulous but otherwise everything else is specialized the same. Although, the workers reminded me of Janeane Garofalo working at the GAP in "Reality Bites," it was all quite understandable.
The layout is cool, you walk downstairs and it resembles a basement. However, sections aren't clearly defined as the ones I've seen around home. The store could quite possibly use a map.
I'm sure things will get better. Kudos to H&M for using an Asian model in their new print campaign. There was a big banner of her face by the stairway. It's nice to see Asian girls hawking something else besides Shiseido face cream. I mean I have faith that my Asian sisters can strike a fierce couture pose along with their glowing faces.
You know, I could easily be a hater and wonder what the fuck is up with all the fashions these kids wear these days, but when it all boils down to it, H&M has good jeans at decent prices. And for that I can't hate.
I would've only given it 3 stars since the place does get overcrowded, and littered with silly young idiots that make me scoff and laugh at the same time, but I can't help that I look pretty fucking marvelous in their jeans. And those young idiots are still kids. And what the fuck do kids know anyway? They're kids! They're supposed to be stupid! Stop hating on the kids!
God how I want to hate H&M; no customer service, "the masses" fighting over inexpensive fashion, and long lines to try things on.
But a $20 cowl neck wool sweater with interesting button detail will do wonders to help a boy forget all that... and I am sure the Chinese orphans working in forced labor camps get a small amount of pleasure knowing that some queen half a world away will look "gorg", when he goes out this weekend.
I was super excited for H&M to open but was actually disappointed. Their ads are in magazines like W so I figured..hey, it must be pretty good stuff because everything looks cool.
I was wrong.
It smelled like sewage downstairs and the clothes look pretty nice but the quality is hit or miss. I'd shell out an extra $40 for a quality winter coat elsewhere but would probably buy something like a plain t-shirt here.
Cheap new clothes are neat and a special little treat when you get tired of wearing clothes with other people's bud luck and sweat on them. Sometimes that new shirt smell is just what you need, ya know? Plus they have slim fitting shirts here for waifish people. And they get new stuff every week. And there's always cute sass walking around inside. Serious.
oh how i wish to step foot in your great location and do some shopping during my lunch break or in between busses...
and i try... i really try to make time to spend in here...
but MAN is it always crowded in here with either stupid people shopping or really stupid people shopping!!
the staff is nice but unfortunately a bit hard to find in the sea of silly shoppers and i have yet to buy something because i've run out of time due to the following:
- hard to get around store
- long line for the fitting room
- long line to pay
i hope to change my review and give it more stars but until then... 3 from me : )
Okay, I really like their clearance rack. They sell tank tops for about a dollar or 3. I got a dress for 5 dollars. The scarves are only 10. I really like this place, but it gives only 24 hours holds. Some of the items are over priced.
I just happened to be across the street from H&M on opening day, and the line stretched around the block, fooling the GAP into thinking that they had some actual customers. Who knew that H&M stood for HoMogenous?
I was at H&M downtown opening day and later in the weekend, but the store was packed, guess I was lucky to just be able to just walk-in when I went. It was playing younger people's music which was up-to-date for once and really cool. I found a lot of things I liked espicaly the winter coats, and shirts. I did get a shirt on sale that I wanted which was really great and found others that I hope to get later. I have to say I never bought a shirt for 24. where I wanted to end up waring it more than one day in a row after waring it the first day, and not be embarrised about waring it the day before. The shirt was looked so good I was fine waring it again the next day, and I am usually not one to do that, I was surprised at the quality and how good it felt- for the price I paid. I also got the gloves which were neat in the pack you could get like two sets for the price of one practically. Anyway I found a lot of things I like here, and there jeans look neat to, there not only blue but they have different styles that stand out more so I liked that than regular blue jeans. I think its a good place for teens to adults also, with a good variety though they had a lot more clothing for women than men, but still found things I like. I didn't have trouble seeing clothing that guys could ware to work though, but do see it as a more casual look, and def for clubs etc. Its a great style and I like the european feel to it. Its now nice to be able to get that style but not to have to pay way high expensive prices for it. The staff are really helpful and good about answering questions, and nice. The store has a nice energy and was a lot more crowded than other clothing stores I've been in in the Seattle area, I welcome H&M to seattle and hope the do well here, since there are so many clothing stores here. It was fun to be able to just walk-in on opening day since now I find out there had been a line that long outside it at one point. Parking is probably a little tough but there is good transportation.
