My gay husband slash porn star and I were drawn in by the seductive pleather clad mannequins with arms at their sides and hands out at 45 degrees like penguins . For some reason the combination of fake leather, black drapey dresses and the arctic bird hands made them look like... well ok there are no words.

We were attracted.

and yes that's what I'm lookin for.

Once in we were wiilng to swap money for acrylic and polyester penguinwear when all of a sudden we were assaulted by
    dumdum DUUUUHHHHM

                 PLAID

OW my eyes. PLAID blazers.
PLAID serial-killer  furflap f*@king PLAID hats owowow

PLAID is fall 2009 black? hork.

But I did find what I usually find at H&M. no not that. A simple inexpensive on trend accessory or two.

In line for the register:

My Gay Husband: *waving his penguin hands over me*
Scanning for imperfections. BEEEEEEEEP.

                Design flaws detected.

Squinka: You have now been selected as... FOOD. Please step to the right.

MGH: You have exactly BEEP one minute of your human time for phone transmission to beep Friends And Family before

Sq: The TENDERIZATION is now in process. [punches GH repeatedly in porn star abs]

Woman behind us in line: glares at us while strangling her one purchase: A PLAID furflap hat.

                                            !

good for basic inexpensive layering pieces that will have a trendy touch or two. Don't expect incredible tailoring, luxurious fabrics or  innovative design.

and watch out for the slightly flawed alien killer in her new trendy loooong black scarf. she'll take you down you plaid furflappin serial killers.

porn stars will be taken in for questioning.

Cool things:

Affordable trendy items
Cute guys
A good rare steak

Not cool at all, not in a thousand years:

People wearing skinny jeans when it is genetically impossible
A cute guy bringing an iPhone into the bed
A well done steak

I almost drop kicked a dude for making me think he sneaked his iPhone under the covers.  Oh, I'm sorry, is there a new glow-in-the-dark app I did not hear about it?  On top of that, I just had a French Dip sandwich where the beef slices were leathery and tough and they were turning in my stomach.  Made me not want to grow old at all.  And venturing out in the sudden cool weather in the city and not having any protection around my neck had me on edge.  No man was going to escape my wrath.

H&M to the rescue.

When I feel the need to just look around or lacking the correct threads for the weather, I slip in to grab that necessary t-shirt or inexpensive sweater when I'm on the go.  This most recent excursion netted me a very nice chunky cable knit scarf priced right at $14.99.  In addition, when I'm seeking lighter items, such as a rayon off the shoulder blouse or a slim pencil skirt, H&M delivers in terms of trendy and affordable.  I usually save the nicer skirts (worsted wool and with lining) at Banana Republic.

This store is slightly smaller than the larger one up on near Macy's but I do appreciate the ease of wandering for the window shopper.  I'm usually in/out within 20 minutes or so.  Checkout is usually quick and then I'm off to the other stores in the mall, usually the Borders up the escalator.

In regards to hand held devices, just keep it traditional without the touch screen.  If there is no mutual benefit in bringing it to bed, leave it on the frickin' counter.

Review for H&M Mama (maternity):

It's not a huge section and the sizes are limited like everything at H&M, but they definitely have some stylish options that are more interesting than the basics at Target, Old Navy, and Gap, but at similar prices. I wasn't too thrilled when I first looked at everything on hangers, but was surprised I liked most of it when I actually tried it on. Yay! It was worth a trip to SF.

This location has H&M Mama! And their stuff is cute, young & stylish. Oh, and cheap. I mean, I'm only spending a few months wearing this stuff (though I will probably have a future pregnancy), and I don't feel like spending tons of cash just because I have this belly bump.

I mostly stuck with the shirts here, H&M pants run pretty small, and I got depressed when the size numbers got too big (yes, it's only a number, blah blah blah. I'll go to the gap for jeans where my maternity size is the same as my non-pregnant size, thank you!). I will be going back in the fall to stock up on leggings & sweaters.

I've been converted. This location has a children's section. Children's section=Autumn gets a new wardrobe for half the price of a pair of Delman flats on clearance at Bloomie's next door! Seriously. Their 13-14 year old size range makes for the perfect fun-little-extras shopping spree for any lady in the size 0-2 range. I got stretch jeans, 3 pairs of leggings (one with zippers, one plain black, and one with little buttons), a black turtleneck dress, a "vegan leather" (ha!) bomber jacket, 4 pairs of tights, two hats, and some t-shirts for less than $100. Beat that. Now, just don't wear them all together, throw on some pricey flats with those leggings, toss your kooba bag over the pleather, and no one will ever know you're just a (cheap) little girl at heart!

H&M has a nice variety of clothes & lots of good skinny jeans and i don't just mean lots i mean lots like it's meant for skinny jeans to be there.
I have been there a lot and the workers are very nice they even let you wear  your clothes home.Like if you have a shirt or something you just take the tag of and give it to them to ring it up and you can wear your new clothes.
H&M is in a lot of places so i can't say were it is.It is kind of expensive because the clothes are fabulous.H&M is one of the best clothing stores in SF.

Ok, so they get a 1 star because  of the cute Asian girl with tattoos that actually asked me if I needed any other sizes to let me know. That was the ONLY thing I liked about this H&M. I do love the clothes but the H&M in SF center has to be the WORST one I have ever been to. So I go in there trying to exchange something I bought recently. The counter person says it's going to be a minute. Which is fine as long as I get my returns done. He looks up everything and starts ringing  it up , 30 minutes later the manager comes out and says sorry we can't take these back . So I wasted 30 minutes , when I offer to have them look it up by my card and I  say I don't know which one I used and  take out two. I tell them they can check both A woman says. That's not the best way because then we will have all your card information . Do you want us to have all your credit card info ?  Uh.. I think she was implying that H&M employees will take it and use it . Just great customer service guys! At any rate they are not following company policy probably to reduce chargeback's, however they will only cause their sister store to have more who DOES follow company policy . So I hope the Powell store knows that whoever manages the H&M in SF center is causing chargeback's to go up for them !

Not sure if this is the  store they send all the problem employees to but I have to say this is the WORST customer service experience I have ever had at any H&M.  Oh and after I told the manger I had been waiting for 30 minutes and was late for work she says " Oh we didn't know you had to go to work " Missing the whole point that they wasted my time. I am def going to file a complaint with H&M corp. about this. The whole talking about my cc numbers seemed very inappropriate. At any rate, I still love H&M , but will NEVER GO to this location . I would suggest you walk outside the mass and go to Powell they have allot more stuff and the staff is on the ball.  AGAIN AVOID THIS H&M AT ALL COSTS, THEY MAY TAKE YOUR CC NUMBERS AND USE IT . I HOPE THE VERY POLITE girl in the dressing room moves to a better store.

I shop at this store as well as the one in Emeryville and I love that I can get work clothes for cheap here. Purchased a lovely purple dress that I can't wait to wear, as well as a brown (not leather-- yay!!) purse. Sometimes the shoes are cute, although lately the heels have gotten ridiculously high--c'mon, I don't do that kind of work  ; )
Yup, I heart H and M..........

First time I heard or been to an H&M store was in Boston and New York, thought to myself 'Wow, nice clothing and somewhat inexpensive..and hey, that girl is cute!' Initially, thought too bad they don't have one in the west coast. Within the year, these stores were out west in Southern California and now visiting the Bay Area saw quite a few.

Great store to buy clothing, also there men's section is pretty big with quite a variety. Ideal location and a definite recommendation.

Fantastic place to buy fun clothes, yes, but work clothes as well.  I can find cheap pants and jackets that fit well and actually last a long time.  They have a variety of sizes so I always find things, which I really appreciate because I'm not exactly a fashionable size 4.  I'm also on their email listserv which will send out coupons from time to time.  The cooler part of my wardrobe now has H&M's name all over it.  Yay.

This location is great, and the staff is fun and helpful for the most part.  And when they are being aloof, it's only because they are just that fashionable.  ;-)

I really like H&M for the most part (sometimes my love for them fluctuates where in one season I'll see millions of things that I "need" rather other times it's a complete dry spell. This location has dressier women's clothing and childrens as well. Lots of accessories here. It's pretty hidden here in the mall especially with the big one just a few blocks away. Sometimes they are a little understaffed when it comes to the cashiers though.

Dang this store is teensy.

I guess I'm a bit spoiled with the nice big H&M on Powell, but when in the Westfield mall, one simply must stop in here because hey, you never know what might be there, right?

Well, I think I have finally learned that there is rarely ever anything I want or need in this location. Unless of course, you have littles. Their kids section is huge and packed with goodness, so perhaps if I am ever some baby's mama, I will come here. Until then, meh, pass.

H&M? All I can say is wow. They have so many different styles, and they just get better and better. I love the aids line and if I could pick anywhere to shop I'd pick H&M. You should see a;l the different skinnies. They have red and black checker board ones, blue, neon pink, purple. They were born at H&M! The prices should go down for somethings because they don't seem that much. The hello kitty things should go but I love how they get things like, Katy Perry designs. I really want to go there soon because they also have very good service. Staff there don't say things rude about what you're trying on and  help out a lot. I I love how they have a kids section because tons of kids love H&M. It's cheep in the kids section and some small-ish adults can fit into kids clothes so they get clothes they love for less! I knew why that store is one of my favorites the first time I shoped there! :)

I didn't know what an H&M was till I lived down in the OC.  Apparently, the first H&M in LA was opening and it actually made the 10 o'clock news....of course, when I saw the news, I was like, "WTH is an H&M??? Oh, it's just a clothing store."

Then I finally hit up the one they opened in the OC at the Irvine Spectrum.

One word: NICE!

The mens clothing there is pretty damn pimp and not over-priced.  I don't know much about the womens section as the only time I venture to that part of the store is when the girls that I'm with DRAG my ass over there.  I just stay on the guys side and check out the clothing.

I picked up a pretty cool vest that goes with just about anything I wear and a button cotton shirt which was awesome!  They had a few other things, but...........sigh.......there was a black shirt that I really wanted but all these clothes coming out now with the Euro-cut really sucks balls.  Why?  Because my arms were too big for the black shirt; chest fit fine, waist fit fine....but my arms were too big.  I happen to LIKE my arms, so I'm not gonna shrink them anytime soon lol

It's all good - can't help it if the European dudes are built with the equivalent thickness of stockings.

Anyway, prices are good and the clothes are sharp - I digged it!

Just some things you should know about this H&M and H&M in general (from an inside source):

*There is no Divided or Mens here (get over it, there's both in the Powell store)

*H&M does not use sweatshop practices

*The sales associates work on a European model.  Translated as: they will and can be friendly to you but they cannot provide a certain level of customer service.  Listen, you are paying $5-15 for a shirt and there is lots of turnover.  Because of the prices, lots of people are in the store which means lots of items mishandled, dropped, or tried on by customers.  The sales people are directed to clean up garmets, get merch back on the floor, and get you rung up reasonably quickly. So don't bitch if you do not get personal shopper service or ask the salespeople to go and get sizes for you.  It's not going to happen.  Nature of the beast.

You want that kind of service go to a department store and pay those prices. You want to pay dirt-cheap prices for trendy clothes, you don't get personalized service. Capiche?

I love how this location has a children's section. Itty bitty ole' me can still squeeze into a girls size XL. This location is a little more calm than the other 2 or 3 stores in downtown. I always seem to find my size, dressing room attendants are nice as well as the cashiers. The lines are pretty speedy too. Is it necessary to have 2 or 3 in the same district area? I don't think so, but if they were going to combine the three stores to a mega H&M like the size of that Old Navy on 4th and Market...it would make shopping at H&M a nightmare. Lets keep this H&M in Westfield our little secret.

For the day after Thanksgiving AKA Black Friday, this place wasn't crowded at all!  .. well, we were here in the early afternoon, but still! ..while other stores were swamped with people, this was unusually clear with room to roam!

Unfortunately, I can never find anything at H&Ms that I can fully commit to.. I can, however, accept gifts from H&M -- maybe because I didn't pick whatever it was.. but when I go by myself, I've found I can never buy anything I really like. At this rate, I'll never be able to get rid of the gift card I got last year! :(

I don't particularly shop at H&M, but on occasion I check it out. Compared to the Union Square location, this H&M is unorganized, long lines, and dismal. It's also very small.

Pros:
1. H&M = affordable clothing that is colorful, youthful, and fun.
2. Location is convenient - near public transit, inside the Westfield Mall.

Cons:
1. No parking- better use BART or MUNI and/or other modes of public transit.
2. Small- VERY small store. It feels cluttered and unwelcoming.
3. Long lines. I've never been in there without a line.
4. Mediocre customer service. No one has said hi ever to me and the cashiers aren't very helpful. They seem stress.
5. Not knowledgeable about California Cash Back on Under $10 gift card rule. I tried to cash out a gift card I had about 6 dollars left. I just couldn't find anything else I wanted. I had to dispute and inform the customer service/sales associate at the cash wrap that it was a California Law. She did not believe me, held up the line, and then talked to the manager. The manager then let me have it since she knew *though didn't want to do it*. I don't like to feel haggled this way and it's not a welcoming environment.
6. Quality of Items- so/so. I can't say their items is made of high quality- but good if you want a change of fashion and different trends every season. they have a lot of stuff to choose from, but the quality doesn't last. I feel like it's a trendy version of Old Navy.

It's not the H&M you remember from London.  It's kind of like a one night stand.  Basic needs can be met with little investment, but it won't last long and if you have the right expectation going in you won't be disapointed.

Of course, with proper care and maintenance, anything can last forever.

This location popped my cherry! I know the one on Powell hit the city first but after hearing all the hoopla and the lines, and the hoards and hoards of people... I passed. We were checking out the Westfield a few months after its debut and I spied H&M after coming out of Bloomingdales clutching my purse and wallet and feeling so poor.

I don't really look at clothes for myself much, it happens on an as need basis. But when it comes to the kids, I become a shopaholic. I can't resist clothes for the girls especially. So many options, dresses, pants, shirts, skirts, shoes, jackets.... AIYAH! And their clothes are so much cuter, now if some of them were in women's sizes, well hell then maybe my wardrobe could have some new friends.

On this visit I got #2 a jean jacket, 2 pairs of shoes, 2 swing dresses, 2 plain tees, and a skirt/ pant combo... and I spent about $60! HELL YEAH! With the way she's growing there's no point in throwing down a ton of money on clothes for her. And she has become quite the fashionista at the age of 2. Oh boy!

This all occured last year around this same time. With the exception of the shoes, she can still fit in everything. And everything is still in good shape. No fading of colors, no stretching of fabrics, and no rips or tears. Quality at it's best at a cheap price!

There wasn't anything special about this H&M store except that it has a Kids department - albeit a *very small* kids department.  I didn't find much on my visit here.  Was hoping to bring something home for my Chub-Chub but to no avail and I was unable to find anything for myself.  Oh well.... I was trying to find a birthday present, anyway.

This H&M reminded me of the store at the Great Mall although that one is larger and had a better selection for Men, Women & Children - not to mention friendlier employees, too.

Never have a few cocktails and go shopping here.  You will regret it.
For some reason I bought a hoodie with skulls all over it.  I think I wanted to look goth, or  like I shop at Hot Topic.  Who the hell knows?  The point is, I am not a teenybopper, I am 28 years old and shouldn't be wearing anything with covered in skulls, anything with words written across my ass, or anything velor.
And if you pay with credit, they won't charge a return back to your card.  They give you store credit.  So I have had this store credit for months now and every time I try to use it I find nothing.  Everything is cheap, and small, and not for the large-boobed.
One extra star because I did find a cute jacket here once.
Just don't put anything you buy here in the dryer.

Though I always try to steal a visit here when I'm in this Westfield, I nearly always walk out of this store- empty-handed.

This particular H&M location, though much less crowded than the one downtown, is also much more disappointing than the other locations.

The selection is pretty slim, and maybe it's just H&M in general as of late, but everything, outside of clingly well fitted sweater dresses (I am addicted) is ill-shapen, and well....ugly here.

Tent dresses and baggy shirt cuffs are not flattering to women.

I just don't understand why H&M, which used to have very snug, curve hugging stuff, is trying to distort and hide the female figure.

Boooooooooooo.......

That being said, I always find something cute at the other locations.

Someone please rescue this one!

I am THE BEST at procrastinating. If procrastination was an Olympic sport, well, I probably wouldn't even enter until 2012. Yes, that's how dedicated I am to procrastinating.

So it comes as no surprise that when it comes to Christmas shopping I put it off until the VERY last day I feel comfortable shopping. Thankfully there's an H&M every 500 ft. downtown and I was able to successfully procure some decent gifts for those near and dear. Ironically, I probably wouldn't wear most of this stuff but it really saved my lazy ass. One extra star for that.

A smaller outpost of the scandinavian cheapie fashion mecca, I found this location to be a snooooooooozefest. The clothes were all the kind of things you wear to your sad day job and that is what I have Old Navy for, thanks very much. I demand excitement and pink and black sweaters with stars on them (which I found at the powell store a few days later) and 3 dollar costume jewelry that will break the minute I get even slightly tipsy. That is what H & M is all about!

I also had a very interesting situation in a dressing room where I think I burned about 10,000 calories taking this dress off that fit me everywhere but my totally ridiculous rack (this happens approximately 90 percent of the time i try on clothing). Jesus christ. How I managed to get it off without breaking it is beyond me. But it just goes to show you: you can do anything if you put your mind to it, ladies.

I was kind of expecting more......

After my trip to H & M in New York I was ready to drop some serious cash in San Francisco. Unfortunately this H & M didn't deliver. I don't know if it's the clothes currently for sale, or if this H & M doesn't carry certain items, but I walked out with two polo shirts...... I was expecting a lot more.

The guys section at this H & M is small. This place is also CROWDED.

It's more like a shopping emporium: menswear, women's and kids! Great location and plus, a tourist's haven.

This is by far my favorite H&M location out of all of them. It's not too big but also not too small, and for H&M, it's actually pretty well organized. It's never mobbed like the powell street location, even on weekends, and they keep it well stocked...I can always find my size!

H&M also has a great return policy which counts for a lot in my book! I have to sometimes seriously question their merchandising and layout strategies, but like I said, this one's a little easier to navigate.

I've scored some great, cheap finds from here over the past couple of years, and while a lot of people say H&M is bad quality, I've found that most of the stuff actually holds up pretty well as long as you're gentle on it (delicate cycle or washing by hand).

Babies aren't hip. I'm not taking sides on whether HAVING a baby is hip, but the infant itself isn't. They're useless when it comes to witty conversation. They don't have the fine motor skills to dance. They don't throw parties. If babies had iPods, they'd be filled with lullabies and Mozart.

So if you're a baby, the only way you're going to be hip is to have hip parents (or relatives). H&M is a pretty trendy store. Plus, this one has a kids and baby section. Even better, the prices are totally reasonable. Six bucks for a onesie with colorful little Volkswagen beetle-type cars on it? With a little gift bag? That's totally cool.

The kids selection is OK, but their women's clothes are quite reasonable. I'd say it has the style of EXPRESS, but the pricetag and quality of OLD NAVY.

Very versatile pieces match up to make countless outfits! My wife ended up walking out with a nice size mini-warddrobe and the bonus was that we had a "friends and family" discount, money saved!

This store is conveniently located on Market, perfect for the visitor trying to walk through downtown SF without having to drive from block to block. Their associates 'prefer' to work rather than help... but being busy can do that I guess.

Rocking cute adorable affordable kids clothing.

Hayley is going to rock her rainbow spaghetti tie strap sundress, army green plaid roll up shorts, and new blush pink t-shirt.

My nieces are little fashionista's because their aunt (moi) buys them cute togs at sweet shops in the big city.  Now I can add H & M kids clothing section to my list.  The prices are SO reasonable which is great for kids who are growing on a weekly basis.

Yeah H & M!

You just don't know how lucky you are. Yeah, I'm talking to you, SF. You guys have an H&M. No wait, you have three! I would have to drive all the way up to LA to peruse through the lovely selection of clothes at this store.

The last time I went to H & M I was in Paris and I probably spent more time in at H & M than I did in the Louvre. OK, I'm joking, but I knew I had to stop off at H & M during my brief stay in SF. I think the clothing store is divine. Although I don't love every single piece of clothing at the shop, I always manage to find at least one great top or purse at H&M that I wear all the time and get compliments on.

At this H & M I found the cutest and most flattering tanks for $4.95 a pop. I also found a great pair of jeans for about $30. And did I mention I got a purse at the shop? One I know I will get tons of use out of.

You guys are just lucky bastards.

It's what it is - inexpensive and fun. If you don't need hand holding while shopping and you know what look goods on you, you'll love it.

As for quality, it varies and you can tell. Some pieces will last longer than others, so don't base your whole wardrobe on H&M, but it is great place to add to it!

This one is the smallest HM in the downtown area. It's only one level compared to the others, but understandeable since it's in the mall. I honestly never find anything in this HM for some reason. It's a shame since it's so convenient. I don't have to walk out of my way, out of the mall to get to this one. It's mostly work clothes with a very small section dedicated to casual clothes. Everything is well organized though, I guess it's because it doesn't get a high volume of customers due to it being the small one in the area. I always go back to this one despite the fact I never find anything. I never learn.

This place is something next to insane. But I love it.

Talk about finding trendy clothing for a bargain price. I recently bought a corduroy blazer there for about $70, and it was extremely chic.  That might not sound like a bargain price to some people, but go take a look at the selection at Nordstrom or Bloomingdales, and tell me what you think then.

I've been to this location several times and never leave empty handed.  The only flaw I'd say is how messy the place can get, but I won't hold it against them too much because the place is a mad house!! I mean seriously, I've never seen a busier clothing store than H&M in union square.

But then again, this is what I love about San Francisco.

My new favorite store. I LOVE their slim fit dress shirts. None of those yards of extra fabric under the arms down the sides, just the right length in the sleeves and tails. They fit better than any other dress shirt I've tried, and they're $40 a pop. Not too bad. The underwear fits great and is comfy too.
Quality and finish can be a little skimpy on some items but you do, after all, get what you pay for. I don't expect many things I get here to last beyond a year or two, but how long do you wear something before you're done with it and on to something else?

YAY a gargantuan hub of cheap crap probably made by poor blind children whose fingers are bloodied from 20 hour days with no breaks - for joy ((heart))

Juuust kidding..(I hope..) but seriously though..when I went all I saw was cheap chintzy clothing in the most horrendous styles (seriously if that's fashion...)

You are way better off going to an Old Navy or hunting for sales

But who knows - maybe I went during an off season..I sure hope so...come on H&M - let me believe in you!
