I had $40 to get myself some new clothes for work. I walked out of H&M with 3 new tops and some change to spare!!
So now I am sexy, styling and still able to put a few dimes back in the bank!
H&M rocks
Thank you for being in SF!!! I LOVE YOU! Without you here, I would've never had the opportunity to fight for my Jimmy Choo for H&M stiletto heels with the rest of the shopaholics that crazy Saturday morning on November 14th. xoxoxo
It's also conveniently located next to ALL the stores - Macy's, Crate & Barrel, Nordstroms, Sephora, etc. The building is so pretty too and it's packed with lots of versatile clothes you can wear to work or a night out with friends. I love this place - quality clothes for a good deal.
LOVE H&M!
H&M is the IKEA of the fashion world, they have A LOT to choose from, some pieces maybe a little out there, but they really have something for everyone here.
H&M has something for everyone, every style. I love it. I'm a BIG fan of their sweaters and their work attire, Always a good selection, I'm almost always able to find my size and the have fun accessories! Who doesn't love themselves some accessories.
O M G
H&M is always the highlight of my trip, no matter where I go that has one. It's like Santa Claus delivered everything I could ever want and packed it all in a two-story building. I can't begin to explain the orgasmic feeling that H&M gives me...but I'll try.
Forever 21, eat your heart out. Not even a comparison. Sure, H&M is a step up in prices from 21 but you get that in the quality of the clothes...you pay $5 at 21 and it falls apart in a month; you pay $10 at H&M and it lasts forevah.
This particular location has a bigger men's department than I've seen in others. And of course the women's selections go above and beyond...I was under a "time constraint" (*cough*boyfriendwaitingoutside*cough*) for today's visit and I easily spent my hour without ever losing focus.
From peacoats to cowlneck sweaters to tank tops to tights to hoop earrings to booties, H&M has you covered. Frickin amazing.
What a bunch of shoddily made crap. Over priced for how junky the merchandise is. Why not take a step up and go to Target if you want this kind of clothing?
Always thought it was for the 21-set but I always manage to find something stylish that is on sale (or not on sale) . I've gotten some really nice coats, jackets and scarves at terrific sale prices. It's not high-end for the most part in the quality department but I can wear it and toss it after a season without regret of spending a lot.
I LOVE this H&M. It's a gigantic store cram-jammed with tons of clothes: rehashed, weird, and cute. Some of the staff can be funny and friendly, and some of the dressing room attendants need to take a course in customer service, but they're not the reason to shop here. The sales, the already-super-cheap clothes, the enormity of it all. This is why I keep coming back.
One of the best things about H&M is, if you know your size, you can skip the dressing room for most pieces. I like to walk around this store with a heap of clothes over one of my arms, sifting through racks and adding to the heap. I can get into a lot of trouble here.
My cousin Jenn T and I arrived in SF on Friday for a bachelorette weekend wearing sundress and flip flops, we were coming from L.A where it's been in the 90s. Imagine our surprise when we see it's raining! Normally I check the weather channel when I am leaving the state, but did not think of checking it to go from L.A to SF and apparently not one of the 6 friends we were seeing thought of telling us how it's cold and raining. Luckily my cousin brought her cowboy boots and I happened to bring my knee high boots, so at least we had the right footwear. Thank goodness for H&M, I was able to quickly get an outfit together for the rainy weekend.
I don't particularly love H & M but it's decent for basic items appropriate for work. However I have rarely gone to the H & M on Powell St. and been able to find my size (6 or 8 depending) in anything. Is it too hard to ask to carry these sizes? Come now. One would think a retailer of this size could do a quick analysis of their inventory and sales and realize they need a larger supply of these sizes at this particular store.
Usually I end up here against my will and idly browse as I wait for my friends to shop. There's some cool stuff, but mainly I get my hopes up that I'll see some girl dragging her poor boyfriend along, trying on furry hats, asking for the boyfriend's approval, and having the boyfriend respond with a long, awkward "UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM".
Well, UMMMMMMMMMM.... I guess I'll be back. Maybe.
I like H & M. They always have a good selection. I spend at least a half hour every time I come in here. I've never had any bad experience with the staff or had any trouble finding my sizes or such. It's easy to have a pleasant, relaxing shopping experience with the hip music they play overhead and just drifting into my shopping mindset, ha ha.
If anything, sometimes the lights in the dressing rooms make it a wee bit stuffy when you try things on but I think that's balanced by the way they have the mirrors set up, where you can see every angle of yourself as you're looking yourself up and down to make sure you're not only comfortable but lookin' hot in whatever get up you're considering buying. A solid 4 stars, H&M, a solid four stars.
The only reason why I'm giving this place 1 star is because my boyfriend actually found something that he liked. Or else I would of gave it zero stars if I could!!!
My boyfriend and I came here a couple weeks ago to shop around before our dinner reservation. Whenever we're in the city, we like to do some shopping. As we were looking around in H&M, my boyfriend found a couple of different color dress shirts and vests that he wanted to try on. We then went to the fitting room so he could try on all the clothes. When we were done choosing what we liked and didn't liked, we walked out of the dressing room forgetting to grab the rest of the clothes. Then the guy that was working at the dressing room area said out loud "ARE YOU DONE?" My boyfriend said "yes," in a very nice tone of voice. Then that rude ass employee said "WELL CAN YOU GO BACK AND GET THE CLOTHES???" I got EXTREMELY mad!!! First off, it's not like we intentionally left the clothes there. WE FORGOT! Second off, don't you dare talk to your customers like that. You're a retail worker, so respect your customers. And lastly, that guy acted like a little queen bee. He was so anal as if there's a stick stuck up his @$$! I can't believe we didn't complain to the supervisor about him. And my boyfriend was being so polite during the whole time that prick ass was being obnoxious! My boyfriend shouldn't even have came back and got the clothes after that employee was being so rude. If he had asked us in a respectful tone of voice, not only would we be more than happy to grab the clothes, we would apologize as well. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I have always liked H & M along with their huge selection and variety...This particular location has the largest men's section I've seen in the bay area...They switch up their inventory really often which can be good or bad...It sort of makes H & M a hit or miss kind of store...Still though, I cant deny that there are some great things to be found here - along with their fun scarfs! If you're on a shopping adventure in Union Square, this place is well worth it!
There is one word for my first trip to an H&M: under-impressed. Now before everyone in the world writes me off, let me explain.
Based on all the hype, I might have set the expectations a little high. I think I also felt as though I needed to get an entire new wardrobe for less than $100 on my first visit. Then I could come back home and finally be a part of this mysterious group of people who say things like "Yeah, it's awesome right? And only 10 bucks! Too bad there's not one in Phoenix..." meanwhile relishing the jealousy of the admirer.
Not to mention I was slightly buzzed and it was Friday at 5p when we wandered in. The crowd was overwhelming - the clothes, not so much. That did not stop me from dropping $90. And I have to admit, I carried in an ARMLOAD of clothes to the dressing room and found the majority to fit as well as it looked on the hanger, and it was far more stylish and of better quality than, say, a Charlotte Russe (which has a similar price point).
So maybe I judged you too harshly at first glance, H&M. I was hurried. I was half-drunk on both Chinatown beer and expectation. I bet once PHX gets one and you become a reliable go-to for cool, cheap duds I will be the awestruck devotee I was before I even knew thee.
First of all, I was rolling a giant suitcase and that alone made me conspicuous in a large busy store like this. I could hardly get through aisles and my luggage took up valuable space many of these other women felt they needed to occupy instead.
On second thought, shopping on Saturday morning after a night of drinking carrying a rolling suitcase was NOT A GOOD IDEA.
But I did find some great shirts and three new bathing suits for $25 a piece.
Their overall selection was way too pastel for me. Spring is here and apparently sherbet is the new black. Ack.
If only I hadn't have been carrying luggage.
If only I hadn't been still drunk.
If only I had planned ahead, I could have had a great shopping experience. But I was happy to find a few things and then leave.
You know that show "Supermarket Sweep?" That's exactly what I think about whenever I come here. I go out shopping to union square maybe once every 2-3 months with my good friend and we sometimes stop by H&M on our way to ZARA. The last time we came here, about 5 days ago, the selection was exceptionally crappy, the sales people nowhere to be found, and the dressing rooms were abominable.
Working in retail, I know how hectic it can get on weekends with the mobs of tourists running amok like bulls in a china shop. That being said, folding clothes is part of the job. Oh, and so is helping customers. My friend was trying on a dress she liked for a wedding she had to go to. I was waiting outside and she asked one of the fitting room employees to bring her a different size. Reluctantly, the employee came over, grabbed the dress and fetched a new one.
If you hate the job, get a new one. Yeah, retail sucks but nobody forced you into it. A better attitude might make the day a bit more bearable.
I love H&M but I hate this location. The last time I was there I dropped about $150 on super cute, cheap clothes and accessories but I was followed around the store by this weird guy. I'm not confrontational, so I said nothing to him I just continued shopping. I though he would go away and he did only to appear AGAIN after I had left the store. Turns out he was Lost Prevention and he accused me of shoplifting! SHOPLIFTING?! I've never stolen in my life.
Can you say racial profiling?
It's no Target and it's no Sak's Fifth Ave but it's a crossfire between Target & Saks. And no...H&M does not stand for hot mess (unless you're a big fan of Bai Ling's fashion choices)
This store has got everything from bleak to chic. They have the basic items such as camisoles, underwear, pants, t-shirts, dresses, blouses, jeans, etc...you know..the staple stuff in clothing. But the awesome part is that you've also got the neon stockings, legwarmers circa 1980s, chunky gold jewelry, floral hair accessories, al capone era caps, hats, thriller jackets, funky bags, etc. The popular colors of the season are all over the store! Currently, tropical colors are everywhere in H&M...my particular favorite is mint green. I consider it to be a one stop shop with the variety of clothes sold but I often shop here if I need something cute to wear on a night out of town because H&M's also got a little bit of that diva style in their clothes too...hear me roar!! Also, the fabric quality is good and not flimsy thin... compared to the twenty something or other store.
Prices are reasonable borderline cheap and H&M can be pretty generous with markdowns ranging from 20-50% off...a couple points gained in my bargain hunting book.
I've got love for H&M...however...this location can get CROWDED... So expect lonnnnng lines and small piles of unfolded clothes everywhere...it gets busy.
Take your girlfriends and try something on at H&M because who else will tell you if you're a hot mess or a hot mama?!?!
This is one of those places that you goto because you need an certain accessory or item of clothing that is not expensive. I got a suit here and I love it. My girlfriend picks up a few things that are cool & fashionable, but wont kill her pocketbook.
Yesterday I had my first bad experience there. I was looking for a hat for my gf, after not finding it I decided to ask for assistance. As usual the workers are more worried about getting the inventory out than the customers who keep them employed. So I see this guy (probably a floor manager) who was talking to someone into a walkie talkie. I waited till he was done doing his breaker breaker thang, then asked him about the hats. He looked right at me and then went right back to talking into the walkie talkie again. Didn't say one minute or excuse me, or anything that a polite person would do for a guest. I waited for about a minute, then instead of wasting more time I walked away, I got about 5 feet away when breaker breaker says "Sir, I was getting ready to help you!" in a nasty tone. After I didnt respone to his call he says "Whatever!". Wow, is that how shit works now. I know people in retail get pissy over being bothered while busy, but its a give and take situation. You hear me you black pant, grey polo wearing attitude monger!?!?! Your tattoos look like crap too.
They have the best staff and the best stuff . Period. All the other little H&Ms probably look up to them like a starlit big sister. ..
I like browsing in here. It's a big store and always busy. The acessory selection is great.
Oh H&M. :) :) :)
I first encountered my love for H&M during a school trip to London. SUPER ORGASMIC CLOTHING STORE ALERT!!!
My first trip there, I maxed out a credit card (With my parent's approval) and had to fed-ex the rest of my shopping home. I'm SOOO HAPPY that they opened a store in SAN FRANCISCO. I stayed in a hotel up the street just so that I won't be too far away. I love H&M. I'm moving to San Francisco to finish up my schooling, and I can't wait! I specifically chose the SF area because of the shopping.
I love H&M. Cute and well constructed clothes without the sticker shock.
Some of the best deals are, in my humble opinion, found on sweaters and anything knitted for that matter. If you only knew the price of yarn and the amount of work that goes into knitting clothes, even by machine, you'd understand why knitted stuff is usually pricey. H&M manages to have some great looking pieces at very affordable prices. They also have great deals on accesories, scarves, and jewelry. I'm not a fan of their shoes but they do have a small selection of those.
As for their underwear. Eeeek, today I thoughts I had temporarily stepped into Fredericks of Hollywood. Trampy much? Seriously, pink and black, leopard, and red everywhere.
Judging by the previous reviews, service can be a bit of a hit or miss. Fortunately for me, they were all in a good mood today. It could be because it is Friday (praise the sky) or because of my sparkling personality. I'm like a ray of sunshine into people's dark places. LOL.
I was very impressed with the service I was given at this store. I walked in and was greeted with an enthusiastic salesperson who immediately made me feel welcomed. I needed a winter coat just as spring had ended and despite the rather odd request she directed me to the correct area and I was able to find a great sale!
They don't allow you to show with your dog.

GAH! to H & M and not having smaller guy sizes! My Ryry is a slim 5'8" so he's not really going to benefit from a ceaseless selection of size 40R sport coats, is he? or size 38 pants?! Finding his sizes is literally finding needles in a gigantic haystack. BOO!
As for women's clothing, I can find nice clothing once in a while but again, those gems are diamonds in the very rough rough. I wear their basic black stretch cami all the time and got a really cute buttoned-up shirt dress.
...but sometimes their fabric feels like paper...
I did once get an awesome handbang here for $20... but several months after I bought it, it tore... =(
We had a visitor over from Houston and he wanted to hit up all of the H & M's around Union square..bc there aren't any located in Texas. To our surprise...after looking it up on Yelp...there are 3 locations within half a mile from each other. This location on Powell...one on Post..and one in San Francisco Center (on Market).
Apparently, this H & M is the only location that has men's clothing..DESPITE the reviews by the other retarded guys that yelped that the other locations had men's clothing. We didn't discover this til walking to all 3 locations. What retards!! Geez..if you are going to Yelp a place..get your shit straight buddies. And save a person..or two..or five to be exact...a freaken useless walk. It's not rocket science.
Anywho, this location on Powell was by far the biggest (2 floors) and had the most selection. The hubby got a nice black pinstripe blazer for only $50!! Not too sure about the quality..it still looked nice...we'll have to see in a few months. And just as the other reviews stated..this is a step up from Forever 21. Not so clubbish like F21..and you can actually find some work attire here. The quality..ehh...F21 quality...just don't wear the crap out of it and be sure to wash on delicate...
If you want to impress your coworkers.....then come here. I always find dress shirts here in mutiple colors and rock em to work looking fresh and so clean.
Most of the times this place is unorganized and the lines take forever. Today however it was like walking through a park because usually on Sundays this store makes me want to push ppl who are in your way.
I also like the fact that the mens side offers a variety compared to Forever 21 and a lil less expensive. Today I bought a polo and a short sleeve dress shirt for less than $28 buckaroos!!! So I'm def. a happy camper.
I love coming to H&M....Their prices are always good...At times you can get their sweaters 2 for 1 which is always good! They always have great accessories that are super cheap! When I come to this H&M I always try and give myself a good chunk of time since there is so much to go through!
The only complaint I have about H&M (this is the only reason why for the 4 stars instead of 5) is that sometimes it is a hit or miss..Sometimes you find a million things and than sometimes you find absolutely nothing! ha ha....
My favorite H&M location, with the exception of New york city.
I was here on grand opening day, in line with the other fashion addicts. So I have an unspoken loyalty to them unlike the other locations.
The store's organized well so you know what section is for work clothes, clubbing, lounging, etc. Staff is usually helpful, especially those times when you find an item in a random spot and need it in your size STAT.
Everything here is stylish, well priced and good quality. I love that it's limited stock on most items, so you're not walking around seeing every other chick with the same shirt you have on.
O.K.
CHEEEAP PRICESS
selection hit or miss
you have to call and see if they have your size and style before you go there to make sure you'll get it.
compare and find, then buy. that's the only way to shop here.
friendly staff; not trying or forcing fake friendliness. thanks for that and the help. got a real cool shirt for 14 dollars that rocks, and found jeans i love for cheap but not in my size (gr). i'll find them soon. this week!
Why is it that they always advertise items for $5 or $10, but they're always UGLY?!?!
I went the day after Christmas, and it was a mad house! All of the sale items are downstairs near the entrance, so you had to push and shove your way into the store. They have alot of clothes at relatively cheap prices, but the quality isn't always that great. Its a good thing they're cheap...you can just buy more clothes later.
I've shopped at this store many times, and I always see cute items on the mannequins. But when I try to find the actual item, there's nothing left or just the biggest and smallest sizes left....I'm not a size 2 or 14...I need something in between! Its always hit or miss for me. I only walked out with one regular-priced top this time.
Note: Use the registers upstairs...the lines are MUCH shorter.
My routine with H&M is pretty simple. I walk in the store and dodge the shifty security guard who always looks at me like I'm a piece of meat. I walk toward the front right and examine the dress clothes (although this is where the casual clothes used to hang). I walk past the registers (always right between them and the first customer), check out the cheap woven hats I can never purchase (One Size DOES NOT Fit All), try on a winter jacket that doesn't fit properly, remember that part of the back middle room is for guys and check it out even though it's always the bastard pieces of the __(fill in the season)__ collection, and once again walk past the security guard and out of the store.
Once in a while I buy something. Usually a zip-up hooded sweatshirt. I never like it at first, but then it grows on me and suddenly it becomes my go-to sweatshirt.
I wish their clothes fit me better but they are always a little too wide or big. But I love the idea of this store, how cheap they price things, and that when I come across a truly good find, I will wear it until it shreds or decomposes.
It's identical to my philosophy on dating.
Trendy clothes?
Without ridiculous labels?
Without ridiculous prices?
I mean okay, I understand that the ampersand between D & G costs an assload thats why H&M decided to skip on branding their clothes.
I love shopping at this store. I don't find something every time, but when I do... I usually don't get buyers remorse. It's cheap, so you never have to justify how you are going to need to cut the Vegas trip or only have 15 dinners the next month to afford this jacket.
It's not fair to compare this place to high end retailers. This is like a GAP that's not played out. Like an Abercrombie that isn't overpriced from printing posters with nipples. Like a Forever 21 that doesn't get you critiqued for being a wannabe. Like an American Eagle but isn't an imitation.
At H&M you can dress up and dress down. I love checking out http://www.chictopia.com and some of the trendiest ensembles is H&M with a top end designer.
But why this location? Because it actually has guys clothing! It fits perfectly into my preppy style.
Two caveats: The jeans are in European sizes which is a bummer for some of us with a larger bum. H&M is getting close to ridiculously popular, like... GAP in its heyday or the Housing bubble. It is close to being on the verge of too played out. The flame flickers brightest before it goes out.
Up until last week, I had bought like 2 pieces in this store. An emergency scarf and a simple black pullover.
That was until the Comme Des Garcons/H&M limited edition designer collaboration was released.
[cue music]
"Now I spend my day turning tables 'round in Hennes & Mauritz... They dont seem to mind"
Okay, I understand that CdG were not involved in the manufacturing process (instead of the familiar "Fabriqué en France"/"Made In Japan" you see "Made in Romania/Turkey/China") but still the patterns, fabric and famous style of cutting are the same that has garnered the CdG design house the cutting-edge/deconstructionist reputation it has earned over the last 35 years. Add to that a very democratic H&M price point and some fashionista hype to the zillionth degree and hey, I'm a customer!
After previewing the collection online and in some trade rags, I had my heart set on quite a few pieces (2 suits, trench coat, pea coat, sweater, wool pants). The night before the release I talked to the store manager to get an idea of how they would be visually merchandising the collection and found out where my favorite pieces would be. I also found out the size scales (which happened to run only up to my size, thank god: 44US,/54EU).
The day of the sale was another thing. People had been lining up since 1pm the previous day for the sale which started at 10am the following day. So basically I'm screwed right? Nope, I was actually able to score the 2 suits and 2 coats I was interested in as well as the pullover, wool pants, cardigan, 5 dress shirts, and the signature CdG tee-shirt. Not bad!
While I'm normally not an H&M customer, I was very surprised to see a collaboration between Comme Des Garcons and H&M and even happier to get a chunk of the collection.
I'm not much of a shopper, but this place was fun for us both - plenty of cool euro-style clothes at reasonable prices and only steps from our hotel :)
I am hoping they open one in Phoenix soon.
My friend was so excited when H&M was finally opening in San Francisco. I had never heard of it, so I was curious. First time I stepped in, honestly, nothing appealed to me. It just wasn't my scene. I walked out disappointed.
Then one day, months later, I walked past the store and saw huge sale signs. Decided to give it another chance. This time, I found a bunch of stuff. I came out with a huge back of skirts and tops. Great little pieces that are trendy for 'the now' but not too expensive that it would break your heart to part with it when it's "out".
That was the last time I've been able to find anything I like in this store. I've been back a few times, hoping to hit upon a season that peaked my interest. Haven't bought anything from here since that one successful shopping spree. I've never had an experience like this with a store before. Interesting...
By far the biggest and best H&M in the bay area. Two floors of inexpensive and trendy clothing for both the office and casual clothing.
Beware that being that it is downtown, it can get packed and nearly impossible to find anything on the weekends. The staff here is usually not that helpful and lines to the fitting rooms are pretty long.
Despite the minor set backs, they do have a larger stock of items and the latest styles and most selection. You're fine as long as you come here at opening or during the weekdays.
I've worked at H&M for over 3 years in my retail past, as well as shopped at H&M since it first started in New York. I absolutely loved H&M, and don't find myself shopping there much anymore since I've moved to California. I'm more into the selection at the East Coast stores versus the West Coast stores. But I definitely still like the concept, and prices in the store. Especially compared to other "Discount" retail stores. This definitely is the winner in quality and style.
It's a Swedish originated store that has spread all over the world. They are global and earth conscious. As well as really great employers. Definitely a place I suggest shopping at. But if you can't handle hella people and long lines. Don't bother.
I'm in a love/hate relationship right now. I'm used to those. Things I just can't stand but I keep going back for it. I'm a glutton for punishment.
So after this evening, it's official. I've dubbed H&M Hipster & Moron. That's it. End of story. The staff is so disgustingly aloof there I feel like I'm back in Louis Vuitton and they're looking at me like I'm going to steal something and that I don't belong. This is all while "acting" that I'm not even there. They never really know where anything is, what sizes it was or is available in and they just seem to be waiting to walk out of there to grab a PBR and have a Parliament on their ten minute smoke break.
If you have creativity and can accessorize well, you can turn all that cheap stuff into something fabulous. I've purcahsed a variety of accessories from there, mixing it with some couture and rockin it to the hilt. I've been shopping with girlfriends and boyfriends there, with complete success. We always walk out with bags upon bags of needless crap for under a few hundred bucks. These days that says a lot considering it's a hundo to fill my gas tank up and six bucks to cross the bridge.
The bulky, bright scarves are a hit. Turning your outfit without a jacket in the fall into something more individual (if you don't notice that five hundred other people around you have the same damn scarf on). My girl and I got some headscarves there last time that I've already worn on many occasions and have defnintely gotten my five bucks out of already.
The jewelry looks pretty cheap, but can be layered for an urban funk look, and their basic pieces are great to put under all those other Hipster & Moron garb that we have piled in our closet.
My girl did get a few fabulous jackets for the fall at H&M, not in SF though, at their Las Vegas store. They are well tailored, very inexpensive and she looks like a million bucks in 'em.
So as you can see, I feel like I'm caught in one of those little stories my mom told me as a kid. "When she was great she was perfect. And when she was bad she was horrid."
