Neighborhoods: Rittenhouse Square, Penn CenterMy love for H & M might be borderline unhealthy. Yes, the clothes are cheaply made, but they're also CHEAP and the bright colors and wacky patterns are so much fun. I love that I can come to one place for work clothes and party clothes without spending much on either. There are definitely some more expensive items, but they also have great sales- I bought my favorite hat for $1, my favorite bra for $5 (girls check out the underwear selection- it's great!), and my favorite capris for $15 during a 1/2 off sale. My major piece of advice is try EVERYTHING on, because you might be a small in one item and a large in another- it's very uneven. Shopping at H & M takes some time- I usually pick up about 20 things, put some back, then make another loop to see what I missed- but I always leave completely satisfied!

This location is definitely geared towards the fun-fashioned folk of Philly. The staff here seem to be really helpful, but the fitting room line can get a bit long upstairs. For guys, this location seems to have more selection than Walnut. Some of the things I see here a bit too out there for my tastes, but like I said, this is for the more adventurous crowd who take risks with fashion (at least the first floor and a small bit of the second floor is). The back of the first and second floors seem to have some more conservative items. Definitely stop by if you're passing by for a bargain.

H and M is one of those places where u find both good lookin stuff for cheap ,and cheap lookin stuff for more than what its worth and if you keep checkin it out you can get some pretty good pieces...the good stuff tends to get over pretty fast ....the sales are pretty good, and you can shop here for all your basics and then some... the mens section is not too great for choices...
i guess a lotta people shop here and you can see the clothes everywhere ....wait is that woman wearing a skirt like mine....
but il still keep cumin back

H&M is very hit or miss, but when its hit, its very good. The location is big, and easy to navigate. Ive found really nice hoodies for 15 a piece. You can easily walk out of here with a full wardrobe for 60-70 dollars, which is really good. Divided mens skinny jeans are the cheapest mens skinny jeans i have yet to see.

I think H&M is a hit or miss. Sometimes I can finds tons of things I like, and others I hate everything in the place. When I do actually find something it's usually amazing and very cheap! I like their buy 1 get 1 free sales too!
This place is great when you are looking for something to the extreme, or even something very simple.

I feel torn. I like their jeans...well I like the fit, but they never last! I only buy stuff here when I catch it on sale or else I feel it's overpriced. I know they are going for vintage styles I just wish they would do a bit of vintage quality too!
I love all of the accessories etc...I just feel slimy buying them because...well let's be honest...it's not quality merchandise. But I will buy sale items here, I figure at least that way I get my moneys worth out it!

The prices are incredibly random. You'll find a t-shirt for $3, then a sweater for $90. You'll find two dress shirts that look almost exactly the same and are made from the same material, one for $20 and one for $60. You will have NO IDEA why they are priced differently. It's strange like that.
But honestly, when you do find those cheap things, it's totally worth it. If you want a plain solid-print long or short sleeved t-shirt this is definitely the place to go (but don't put them in the dryer, they shrink like crazy). If you are wiling to go there a few times a month you're likely to find lots of good deals on sale racks and stuff like that.
Also, think of maybe buying clothes one size too large for you. Apparently hipsters like their clothes to fit like a second skin. I'm a medium everywhere else, here I'm a large.
Oh, and just so you're not surprised, this place is TRAGICALLY hip. Seriously, it's like a hipsters closet vomited up this store. I don't mean that in an entirely bad way, but I don't mean it in an entirely good way either. Go and look, you'll see what I mean.

Cheap party clothes. Enough said! They don't really have much in the way of men's clothes and what they do have isn't really high quality or well put together. Seams aren't very durable. Jeans don't last very long before wearing out and t shirts are a different story. I got a nice pair of pants here for $24.00 though! People say they look good on me. Sizes run fairly small too. H&M makes EVERYONE feel fat!
Like other reviewers have said - it's very hit or miss. There have been times where I've bought the whole store out (like over $200.00 in merchandise) and other times where I ended up going home with nothing.

I would have given this place 5 stars but recently it has become a bit too rebellious/emo/retro. Thrifty-looking sweatshirts with pixelated video-game icons, talk bubbles and old-school shapes now take over the other classic buys.
I do love that they have a men's section and just opened the whole top floor, too (although nothing can beat Union Square's location). But I feel as if they profiled their inventory for Philly and came up with the fact that Philly's demographic likes this more thrifty look (stores elsewhere carry more classic, fun items without the 80s look).
But where else can you get a T-shirt for $9 that hasn't been used?

Like Nicole, I try to do most of my shopping elsewhere, but I am so impressed with H&M, for being a dirt cheap place geared to to the young, urban, hip, etc.
In actuality, EVERYBODY shops here... so I notice lots of guys and gals wearing the same thing. But for outsiders passing through, H&M is the kind of place that you'll max a credit card, knowing full well, you can do an entire wardrobe cheaply - especially if you can be an individual.
I like to peruse every so often. I'm so glad H&M's are around, but I use them as a last resort.

I heart H&M - I call it my fashion depot. When the manhattan H&M sold out of the Viktor and Rolf collection in around 15 minutes (I know, because I showed up at 10:15... and the store opened at 10:00)... j'etais desole.
later that day, I got on a bus for philly to visit some friends... halfway there I realized that perhaps Philly is one of the "selected cities" that will get delivery of the new line... Yelp Mobile to the rescue.... it revealed one H&M store in Philly.... I headed to the Chestnut street store... only to discover no new line... tres desole...
returned home. went online to mope. only to discover three blocks away from where I was at, is another H&M... with the Viktor and Rolf line... tres tres desole.... and so ends my review... I'm adding this Walnut St. branch to Yelp to help others avoid the plight I encountered... and though I've never been to this particular H&M location, I'm positive it is a grand and well stocked store.
desole.
and why is it that yelp can't handle accent egu or accent grave characters?

Although I tend to do most of my shopping in locally owned and run venues, sometimes I just have to buy the inexpensive threads on the offing at H&M. Sweatshop labor aside, I have bought a few key items at H&M without which my wardrobe would simply not be the depository of fashion that it is. My favorite shirt in the world is this duo-toned screenprint of a lion (gray on black) with the back slitted and knotted so you can see some unexpected skin. It has retained its shape and size fairly well for something that cost 7.90 to purchase.

H&M is kinda like Old Navy, but with ads that look more like J. Crew and Abercrombie & Fitch. Like Old Navy, the stores are often a mess from shoppers tossing things aside. The prices are cheap, cheap, cheap! T-shirts for $5.90, dresses for $19.99. But some of it seems, like Old Navy, to be cheaply made. I also wonder why a rack of the same style black t-shirts have the same tags except for the country of origin. Of ten shirts on the rack, some say "made in Bangladesh," some say "Made in Cambodia," and others list another country. I'm not sure why that makes me uneasy, but it does. Still, I did give in and buy a cheap ribbed tank top instead of supporting sweatshop-free American Apparel? Am I evil for giving in to a bargain?

H & M is nothing like Old Navy, other than that it's cheap-- andit's very much unlike J. Crew and Abercromie in that it offers something for all different demographics. While there are some "preppy" clothes at H & M, the majority are based on high fashion clothes inspired by mod, euro and punk styles. Regarding the manufacturing of H & M clothing, while it has factories world wide, all clothing is sweat-shop free.
Furthermore, American Apparel maybe "sweatshop free" but actually has discrimnatory hiring standards based largely on weight, unlike H & M, which, as I said before, is also sweatshop free.
