Two stars because its cheap, it fills you the F up if you're hungry and because they sometimes had that homemade chick pea salad that was actually quite good.
Otherwise I'd say its the same as any cart.
Only with nicer rice and salads.
didn't taste the food because I WALKED OUT! I patiently waited about 20+ minutes after ordering my food and for some one to make my food but nothing happened. I watched confused as other people came in and ordered and had their food made quickly and with a friendly manner from the counter help, whom was not very polite to me. Anyways, I walked out and went home. Even though I didn't eat their food this place left a bad taste in my mouth. Your better off by passing this place all together. Or maybe you can get faster service is you know the help personally.. I don't get it. They suck.
Upon returning drunk from Manhattan three nights in a row we ended the evening with a stop at Gyro King.
This place is open 24 hours; which has got to be the best thing going for it.
We had the same cook for all three nights; tall guy with a mustache.
I would agree the meat might have been overcooked, and pretty damn salty.
However, everything accompanying the meat was delicious; rice, the different salads, olives, tomatoes, and sauces were damn good.
I had the shwarma plate the first two nights and the super combo plate (can't remember the name) with chicken, lamb and falafel on the last night.
It was a giant styrofoam container of goodness when drunk at 4 am. I would come back again.

Friendly staff and very good food for a cheap price. In fact, the plate I ordered was supposed to be $6 and they only charged me $5. Compared to the $5 plate of lamb gyro and rice from the cart across the street, they had a lot more ingredients in their salad that you can choose that made the dish a lot more savory. Really enjoyed this place, and that meal, and would get it many more times if I could. Good thing it's open all night!
This placed should be renamed to Pyro King - simply based on the fact that any place slanging tender meaty vittles that are not only not tender - but synged worse then a crackheads eyebrows should burn in hell.
TOTAL FAIL

My wife and I found ourselves a little hungry while walking toward the Church Street F train stop. The name Gyro King caught my eye, being a fan of Greek food, but closer inspection of the signage revealed this was a Halal grill joint. I'm fine with that, as well - Middle Eastern fast food is good, too. My wife was intrigued by the promise of an $8 plate lamb chops and rice. We decided we'd split the plate for lunch.
The lamb chops weren't the quality of what you'd find in a good restaurant (at three to four times the price): shoulder and round bone chops here, not rib or loin. They were nicely marinated, which left them flavorful (if a little salty). I will go along with another reviewer who stressed how heavily they grill the meat here: there was some char, and it was more well done than I'd personally have cooked it. Far from perfect, but after a few minutes we hadn't left a scrap of meat on the bones, and were satisfied. The accompanying seasoned rice, salad and pickles were just fine.
If lunch for two had been, say, $15 this would be a one or two star review. But the $8 plate was easily large enough to share (three decent size thin cut chops), and tasty enough that I'd just consider this place worth another visit. (I'd request the gentleman at grill char the meat a bit less enthusiastically next time, just to see what that gets me).
Bottom line: This is a two star joint that picks up a half a star for being a good value. I'm being generous rounding up to three, but can afford to after getting a perfectly acceptable lunch for two for $8.
Well, my pita was stale and falafel was dry. 2 stars for 24/7. Funny guys hang out outside all night. They have some photos of hamburgers if you're into that. I am.

GYRO JESTER is more like it. I have never eaten anything that has sucked so heinously awful in all my life.
I got a falafel sandwich and it was disgusting. The stale pita bread crumbled to almost dust in my hands, and everything fell all over. The falafel balls were dry and flavorless and gave me heartburn.
Given the choice I recommend the gyro cart on Church & McDonald instead. Much much better and has yummy squishy bread. (Wish you could review THEM on Yelp!).
The only plus this place might have going for it is that they make some tasty-looking hamburgers. Not that I would go back there in like a million years. Oh and they're 24-hours.
The cooks at this place have no idea how to cook meat. Nor how to properly prepare and handle food, not there fault just bad management. I only come here because of their portions and the prices, other than that relatively bland and soulless place.
