How often do you walk into a Gyro joint run buy a middle eastern guy? Or a Gyro joint that changes hands and now serves Chicago Style hot dogs?
Bot these things are part of the Gyros + history, so off the bat you know it's a little weird.
I live a few blocks away have been there about four times. The first two were under the old owner. He made a nice gyro salad, thought I'll agree with Michael S - nothing in it to blow you away. Pedestrian at best. Lots of meat.
New owners come on board and I give it a shot. There was no sign for the new owners, so WTH, why not. The gyro they make is great. The meat is tasty and the veggies fresh. Plus they have their own spin on the Tziki sauce - I think they add dill or another ingredient. Nice touch.
But recently I had a Chicago Style hot dog. Now, know this - I'm 39 and 35 of those years were spent eating hot dogs in Chicago. I consider myself an expert on Vienna beef and all the fixins.
This ain't it.
The dog - if it were Vienna beef - had a rubbery texture and zero flavor. It had been in the water or steamer far too long. I couldn't even finish. There were no sport peppers, no celery salt (I noticed some on the corner - I guess you serve yourself?), too much mustard. It's really something to avoid.
Chicago Dog - go to that place up north near Round Rock. I forget the name. Gyro, check this place out.

This was just embarrasing.
A couple of months ago I was going to G+ on the occasional. I just liked the people who ran it. If I was short a couple of dollars cash, rather than have me use my card the proprietor would just settle. Oh! How charming his offhand manner as he did it. The food wasn't my favorite, but I felt good about the place and it was always busy for lunch.
Noone liked to go with me, and since I was on my own today for lunch I thought I would revisit. Mistake.
When I pulled up a shill came out and told me, "Oh the food in there is great." it so smacked of brother in law. He was no sort of Greek.
Nor was the owner. When I looked at the scrawled menu and saw only iterations of
gyros
fries
hummus
greek salad and ..
Hot Dogs! (wth)
I asked the proprietress, who was very very very not at all Greek, Jordanian, Persian..none of that, "Is that your whole menu? No falafel or anything?"
She drawled, "Yeah pretty much." The cold side in the kitchen wasn't set up yet. I couldn't see what the stuff would be like.
"We just bought the place, and we're trying to get some disributors so that we can have more items."
Is this a money-laundering operation? The last owners had falafel. Should have asked them how they did it.
But I had driven too far from anywhere to bail out. Half a league onward, we are burning lunch hour, folks...
*I"ll have the Hummus/Salad. With Greek Salad. No feta no dairy, dressing on the side. Water to drink.
*That will be 8.60.
(Whoa expensive. I could have had Alborz all-I-can eat hummus for nearly that, if I could get into my time capsule and rewrite destiny. Rats.)
She told me that it seemed like a lot of money-but that when I saw it I would understand why.
I saw it and did not understand why. 4oz of hummus. One pita and a small side salad SLATHERED in dressing.
I asked to have the salad remade with dressing on the side. And I told her I wanted my hummus without the white stuff all over it.
She took back the salad, although her husband gave her some backtalk (per her report to me) but *would not* take the hummus back until I, "at least tried it."
I felt like I was 5.
So no. Just no. No. No. No. (And the music playing was that "Young Country" stuff. Yipes.)

My dad was in town visiting from Chicago and spotted the sign from Burnet that said "Chicago Style Hot Dogs." So of course, we had to check it out and see if an Austin venue could live up to Chicago standards.
Sure enough, Gyro Plus serves Vienna hot dogs shipped in from Chicago. One of the owners told us that they plan to start shipping in Chicago buns as well. They serve up the dogs with all the proper fixin's, too.
I tried the gyro and it was great! Very flavorful with a nice seasoning. The tzaziki sauce was great, too- not too runny and plenty of it. They warm the pita on the grill, so they're nice and toasty. The fries and greek salad are good too. I have to say that the gyro was better than the ones I've had at Sarah's Mediterranean further down Burnet Road.
I'd love to try the falafel next time. They have a nice little patio area, too, with fans and misters for when it gets hot out. Close to home, yummy, and affordable- I'll definitely be back!

My company just moved from the wilds of far NW Austin to the wilds of (less) NW Austin on Steck and, noticing a ton of Gyro places in the neighborhood I decided it was high time for a Greek Week. First on the itinerary is Gyro Plus. I went yesterday and got the Gyro + greek salad combo.
The salad was pretty generic, exactly of the type you'd get at any family Italian restaurant except with Greek dressing instead of Italian. Meh. As to the gyro, it had all the necessary elements and was essentially tasty, but all of the flavors were MUCH weaker than I've come to expect and enjoy from my favorite places.
The ingredients in both portions were very fresh but things didn't really come together to blow me away. Overall, pretty okay but not really worth slobbering over. I do wish the place had a better choice of drinks as well. Yes, they have the usual pop + water, but I really had my heart set on some hot tea of the sort I get at Pars. Ah well, so it goes and I'm not going to dock their rating for it.

FOUR star Gyro joint. Very clean and comfy seats. Great service
I love this place. Overstuffed gyros and tasty fries. I've gotten the side salad a few times and it's a little overloaded with dressing but still good.
If you haven't been there in a while, I think it's under new management now and they're MUCH faster.
It's not very authentic but it always hits the spot. More importantly, it's always strangely empty and I don't want them to go out of business! It's doesn't look like they're laundering money in the back so that means they need more customers :)

One Friday night, my friend and I just did a restaurant search with a criteria of location and cost. We uncovered all types of places, but this one stood out.
Now, I don't know of many Greek restaurants in town, so I jumped at the chance to try this out. All I knew was, it was somewhere on Burnet between Anderson and Koenig. After driving up and down looking for this place, we stumbled on it. It was snuggled onto a corner of a micro-mall, and even though it was the only thing open, it was still hard to find. Cuz it looks like a burger joint not a Greek restaurant. So my visions of swigging Ouzo and smashing plates while yelling "opah!" we're soon dashed.
Upon entering, I looked around to notice very cheap table + chair set ups and not a lot of ambiance of any kind...even for a burger joint. But you know what? I could care less about ambiance when I want authentic food.
The gentleman behind the counter who appears to everyone as the owner, seemed more Arabic than Greek...which didn't matter to me. Maybe he was Turkish...again, I could care less. I did however notice that many of the soft drinks in the cooler were from Pakistan. Whatever....oh if you go, get that Lime drink and a bottle of water! I think it's called Citonade or something like that. Tangy and delicious! perfect with spicy food!!
So, I started off with the chicken gyro combo (I really wanted lamb) but for some stupid reason chickened out. Anyway with the combo I got 3 sides I wanted the baba ganouj as one of my side orders, but they were out. So, it was dolmas, hummus and spankopita. Naturally, my order came out wrong, as he mistakenly threw on some fallafel instead of the pastry. All of them came spicy and drizzled with that yogurt style sauce. Everything was excellent!
But I wanted my spanikopita. and I brought this up. Realizing he had made an error he promptly brought it to me...and without throwing any greek fit, ala John Belushi, nor did he attempt to bill me like many a Chinese restaurant might do. Instead, he just smiled and brought it to my table. This, was the only disappointment of the entire meal. It was very small and lacked filling of any kind. It really didn't even taste that great...but a small loss as the rest of the meal was still excellent.
The cost was extremely affordable (go ahead and say it, "cheap") and even though the ambiance was virtually nonexistent, the food itself will bring me back for sure.
Highly recommended, if you want something different while trapsing up and down Burnet.....and remember, if you go, get that lime drink and a bottle of water with your meal;)

I tried this place after searching all sorts of Yelp reviews and craving some falafel. I am eating right now and not disappointed at all!
I got the falafel sandwich which comes on yummy pits with lettuce, cucumber, olives, hummus and tzatziki. It is huge with three big falafel patties. I am kind of full after only eating half. After I had already ordered, I noticed REALLY yummy looking containers of chipotle and spinach-feta hummus in their little to go fridge. I will DEF be trying that when I return.
There is not too much in the way of atmosphere, but not as bad as I thought when I read other reviews. I wouldn't mind eating in here next time. There is a little patio with twinkle lights. It was practically empty around 3pm on a Tuesday. This will be my new local falafel place!

I really like this place. I have been coming here since about 1997 when it was called something else. The prices are good and the gyros have a lot stuffed in them. The atmosphere could use some work, but I always get my food to go anyway.
The only thing I have ever ordered here are the gyros and fries. I don't know much about Greek food, but those 2 items taste good.

I'm gonna be honest with you... I'm NO Greek expert. Sure, I can identify a lambda here or a delta there... and sorority chicks are easier to spot than someone from Dallas on South Congress... but I'm talkin' food here.
That said, I really like Gyro Plus. Seems to be a family establishment... pretty sure that was the owner cooking my meal and his daughter taking my order... and my food was really good.
I don't remember exactly what it was called, but I had the "Gyro and pick 3 sides." The Gyro was really good, the greek salad was good, the stuffed grape leaves (pretty sure there's a name for them) were really good, and the albino bean dip (not sure what that's called... humace?) was kind bland but I ate it. And all of that was like $8.
They recently added a cover to their outside seating (a must) and are slowly working on improvements.
So yeah, I'd say give it a shot. I hope someone that actually knows greek food will check this out and give an educated review. But until then, I'm going to keep hittin' Gyro Plus every week or so.

I had a real gyro jones going on after having a so-so street vendor experience on Sat... er, Sunday morning, to the pedantic.
I ordered, to go, a beef/lamb gyro and hummus. The gyro was very generously plied with slivers of that unctuous seasoned meatwad. A little of my own-supplied chili sauce made it reminiscent of my favorite Mediterranean specialist (Sultan's Bistro, Chico CA). A few more veggies would have been welcome.
Let's just say I wish I had gotten fries instead of library paste^W^Whummus.
Somehow I missed the veggie Gyro on the menu until now. But, as luck would have it, it is a more amazing feat than getting Britney Spears to wear panties before going into public. It has the perfect mix of falafel, cucumbers, tomatoes, tzatziki (and the right mix is heavy on this stuff), olives, lettuce and cucumbers. My new love.

Nice meat! Good *meat* salad. Meat meat meat meat meat. The flavour is the saviour. Everything else is no frills, but the spiced meat. Meat!

My favorite Gyro place. I swear it's a different vaguely ethnic guy behind the counter every time I go in--maybe they bet the restaurant on a weekly game of poker?
Anyways, the Gyros are always good. The pita is on, soft but not too soft. The meat is a perfect balance of flavors, not too lamby, always hot. Fresh vegetables and a really great (maybe homemade?) tzatziki that tops it off perfectly. They have a special with fries that I get almost every time, the fries are not too greasy, and seasoned just right. A few times they have been out of fries and I substituted in other sides like cous cous--no complaints, a nice change from the fries.
This is a nice place to go for a late lunch as it isn't too busy, very laid back, a stack of magazines and Chronicles is there for you to read. Now they have a sign up saying that they have a hookah lounge... interesting, and another reason for me to go!

I stopped in here with my friend Katy last weekend. We each ordered the gyro with three sides. My friend Katy is married to a Greek, so she was my official taste tester for authenticity. We both had the lamb/beef gyro meat, and it was good. The spanokopita was crispy, but each little triangle only had about a tablespoon of filling, which reminded me more of an appetizer size than a side order. I also sampled the dolmas which were definitely homemade and not the canned kind. Katy tried the meatballs, which she said she would not have ordered again. The portions are generous, and the gyro with 3 sides was only $7.95. I was intrigued by the hookah lounge outside, I think it was more of a fancy name for the designated smoking area, since I did not see anyone using a hookah out there. This place is a definite recommend for a tasty meal.

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. It was quiet, then became very busy. The gentleman taking the order (I presume he is the owner) is very friendly and actually did all the cooking himself. The interior could be improved. The paint was patchy in places and the decor was dated. It was not "Greek" looking, nevertheless, the food was spot on. The bread was fresh, the dressing w good, and the lamb was tatsy. I also like how they do not fry frozen meat and pass it off a gyro. The meat is sliced on the pit like it is in Europe. SO, in sum, I give it 4, I would give it 5, but the cleanliness/interior could be improved.

I've been here twice, not bad. My first gyro was at lunch, it was huge, full of fresh lettuce, tomato and thickly sliced gyros meat (gyros meat? - is that right?). The second time was for dinner and my sandwich was kinda lacking, still good, but it was kinda dry and light on the fixin's. Will I go back? Sure.

This place is cool, stopped by today for an Gyro as I was on the north side. cheap, fast service, tasty food. I'd like to try the falafel based on this experience.
