The last time I was in this space, it was Just Desserts, and I walked right out. Why? Because as their empire grew, they left the idea of running a cafe behind and turned a great Church Street location into nothing more than an industrial bakery. At one time, this was my favorite place to spend a Sunday afternoon. At the end, it was strictly a take away counter, with all access blocked from what was a wonderful hidden patio.
So walking past this last Sunday evening, I took note of the golden light inside where Gustofino had appeared. At first, I was not at all interested in checking out a fancy-looking place. But I decided to check things out for my late dinner options and was greeted by the sunny staff behind the counter. I found that despite the high-end looks of the place, this is really a more casual Italian deli--except that the prepared food is actually hot and ready to eat right there, and the surroundings don't feel like a sandwich shop. And with the now opened-up space, there were plenty of places I could have say down to eat, including the refurbished patio in the back, which I was excited to see. I couldn't stop talking about how much I missed it with the girls behind the counter.
I didn't eat my meal there, but was happy I wouldn't have to microwave refrigerated pasta when I got home. The bolgnese sauce was perfect. The sourdough roll and the beet and feta salad were great. For less than ten bucks, it was more than reasonable, and a really welcome addition to the good, inexpensive food options on the block. -

Update:
They have wine and cheese plates, we bought a bottle (great price) and snacked on yummy cheeses.!
Opening day! The gorgozola spinach pasta is gooood. It's like sexy mac and cheese. The beet salad with chereve is wonderful as well. Sweet and creamy. The cafe is beautiful, as well as the patio out back. Gustofino sells top line retail as well. I sampled some of their balsamic vinegar, and it was good enough to put on icecream! -

The first things I noticed after walking in are the beautiful floors and the welcoming smell of lasagna. Replacing Just Desserts, Gustofino Fine Foods has a small deli of Italian foods and local artisan produce. Meatballs, pastas, sandwiches and a wonderful boccacini caprese will have me coming back again and again.
Take advantage of their remodeled patio out back while enjoying a cup of coffee and a bombolone! -

A $2 cup of "Blue Bottle" coffee that wasn't at the normal Blue Bottle level and get this.... they don't have half and half!?!?!?
I didn't get any food but I was so excited to have Blue Bottle 2 blocks from home but alas... I won't be going back until I get a positive recommendation. -

The food was great, service was inconsistent, atmosphere was getting rather nice, the blue bottle coffee was inconsistent (see service and training). Sadly, early in January they just closed up : (

I had an amazing cup of blue bottle here yesterday morning, complete with half and half, and a fantastic breakfast croissant. It was hot, flaky and flavorful. I pick up "Craig's chicken salad sandwiches" for lunches. I'm craving one right now. I love the market priced wine that you can drink there, or take home, or both. Beer too, word.
