Well, I'm back in the bay, knee deep in emails, and I figured I'd take a mental vacation and head back to when the days only consisted of white slopes and apres...

We went to Gusto on our final night in Aspen, a favorite of the family I was with, and apparently a favorite of David Sterns as well ( NBA Commissioner ), as I ran right into him at the front door.

Gusto has a very comfortable vibe for a posh Italian restaurant, and it traveled through into the service.

Their linguine with mixed seafoods was filling and had a great rich sauce that highlighted the scallops, shrimp and mussels in the deep bowl.

The sea bass was also a great pick by another at the table and the game hen had an intoxicating aroma.

Gusto has an inviting spectrum, perfect for families and cowboys.

Here's to a great trip. Cheers.

I had the fusilli with lamb genovese and the arugula salad at Gusto.  While my pasta was delicious, at over 20 dollars it seemed a bit overpriced.  The entrees also seemed pricey, in the 30's and 40's, but I suppose in Aspen this may be considered reasonable... In San Francisco I've only encountered these prices at the top restaurants, and I wouldn't say Gusto quite measured up. My husband's fetuccine with braised tri-tip was just ok.  On the other hand, the service was excellent.

Fun atmosphere for lunch. Gnochi is ok, but not much to write home about.

One of the better value meals we had in Aspen was here. The food was very good and it did not break the bank. For the off-season, the place was almost packed for lunch. The papardelle with lamb was superior! The waiter was on the ball. Worth a visit!

This is one of Aspen's best values.  I eat lunch here often.  Try the hand made thin pizzas...very authentic.  In fact, everything I've tried there has been excellent. ( I only gave four stars because I reserve the fifth for truly magnificent places.)  Gusto is also a friendly place.  The wait staff is often from Italy and having eaten my share IN Italy, I can tell you these guys know what their' doing.  Their $10.00 lunch (off season only??) is a terrific value and their pastas have all the delicate layering of flavor that I love.

My partner and I had an extremely HORRIFIC dining experience here while attending the HBO Comedy Arts Festival recently.  This incident invovles a shoddy and dishonest waiter, feeding meat to a vegeterian, and a manager that did not correct the situation.
After being seated in the bar area, our server Jean, who happened to be the bartender as well, was so inattentive to us it was rather insulting.  He asked us what we would like to drink; after inquiring if their Iced Tea is brewed, we got what equalled a scoff and then a nod that it was.  We asked for two.  However, a good five minutes later, Jean informed us that there was no more Iced Tea.  We ordered at this time and my partner, who is vegetarian, inquired about their gnocchi.  After Jean confirmed that it was vegeterian, he ordered that and I ordered something with pesto.  We had finished our water while waiting for our dinner and a delightful busboy was refilling our water glasses and I decided to again see if they had Iced Tea as I felt that Jean was not being honest with us.  The busboy brought us two glasses of it.  We eventually got our food and started to eat.  My partner then pulled out something that he was chewing on and it was MEAT in a vegeterian meal.  How appauling.  I immediately went to the Maitre D' and asked if he was the manager.  He said he was.  I explained the aforementioned situation and he said that he would comp the meal.  After a few other debacles in our meal, Jean wanted to comp us a desert to make up for his behavior.  At this point, we just wanted to leave this establishment so we declined his offer.  We got our bill and was surprised to find out that we had been charged for my meal and BOTH of my partner's meals.  When we discussed the comped meal with the Manager, he said he would take care of the bill.  He brought us a new check which still included two entrees. We were so furious with the situation that we just paid and left.  The sad part about this situation is that we saw people having a nice time around us.  Unfortunately, our experience at Gusto was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had.
