    Ambiance - B+
    Service - A
    Food - A-
    Price - B+

Nice to know that there are hip, fun restaurants like the Gusto Girls  on the Vashon town strip.

Ambiance is basic and simple with calming yellow, red and black colors.

I only had the appetizers :

-Escargot, very garlicky and buttery - fine with me and the snails were tender served with a thin flaky wafer.

-Panko crusted portabello was delicious...   lots of butter / olive oil... very ... uhh... moist!

Full cocktail bar area and looks like they pour hefty cocktails!   ... I like the lighted ice cubes in the glass to add some fun to the drink.

Services was very friendly... met the part-owner Kristen?  who told me that they had live performances in the restaurant every first Friday during the art walk  from 6 - 9.

I did notice their printed menu had a few mistakes...  just #'s of prices were misprinted... and also was not fond of situations where a bottle of pinot noir for a 06' was listed for $44... but when we were shown the bottle to drink, it was an 07'... Grrr...

However,  space and people ....very "lip-sticky!"  and the ones that like them - COOL!

My husband and i spent a long week of eating "camp food" while working a children's camp over at Camp Burton.  This consisted of burgers, corndogs, grilled cheese, mac n cheese, pancakes, etc.  So we escaped one night and enjoyed a real meal at Gusto Girls.

The menu didn't have as many entree selections as i would have liked, but the salmon was delicious!  They started us out with cucumber infused water, fresh bread with chive/herb butter (mmmmm), and the entree came with a cabbage/beet salad.  The food was great! Even better was the fact that we weren't looked down upon for wearing sweatshirts to dinner!  (camp attire, sorry Gusto Girls!)

Misleadingly named. I equate "gusto" with "down home American", not "culinary school". All the more galling as they have appropriated for their logo the decidedly blue-collar logo for Miller Beer. Call the lawyers...

The food's excellent, OK? If I seem a bit cranky, it's just that Vashon is now overrun with ambitious cuisine, when what Vashon needs is a real diner where one can linger over hash browns and a cup of joe. Less creme brulee, more butterscotch pudding.

Dinner for two with drinks: ~$80.

We ate at Tom Douglas's Dahlia Lounge on Friday night, very unremarkable.  We went to the Gusto Girls on Sunday, it has been a while since we were there. Our meal was fabulous.

This place is so Vashon.  Funky yet elegant.  Portions are large, in fact large enough to split, which is what we did.  A half dozen oysters on the half shell, then split the "Manhattan".  Escargot, then filet mignon, cooked to die for, potatoes, then chocolate mousse. Plenty of food for the two of us.  The margaritas are huge (and a little dangerous), the service intimate and knowledgeable.

Yeah, it isn't cheap.  It you want cheap go to Vashon's only chain restaurant, Subway.

The Gusto Girls is always kind of fun, the food very good, sometimes a little challenging (in a good way).  It is unique on this island.

I remembered, last night, why it had been my favorite  Vashon restaurant.  I just sort of lost track.

Okay so gourmet express ( I think) left a big hole. Like "Wok In Take Out" left a big hole, except this place didn't burn and get replaced with chocolate. The memory of beautifully made food, at you know, sane middle class American pricing is still up in my soul.

Like a parent who keeps the third grade picture of their daughter on the wall even if she is not longer spelling B Champ and now works on a pole. The below is not spam- that is my actual reaction.

SIXTEEN DOLLAR MACARONI- ARE YOU PEOPLE INSANE? ARE YOU ALL NOT TAKING  THE SAME MEDICATION?!

Sure their pasta stuff was good but it's like they're marking everything up as far as they possibly can without blushing.

It's just fundamentally unethical in my provincial little brain.  A lot of people call Vashon the West Coast Martha's Vineyard ...but we aren't, not yet anyway.

Though I guess enough people are up for this- I see people in there who sit by the window  like they like to be publicly labeled as fiscally dyslexic adults.  Put a dark piece of paper under each line on the menu, see? The price says Sixteen Freaking Dollars For Macaroni And Cheese.

The Cheese did not come from sainted cows, nor were the noodles crafted by blind nuns who devote their lives to helping underprivileged children.  I would pay sixteen dollars for a plate of THAT.  But since there are no blind nuns- I will do an ironic father son holy chest X thing whenever I think about going back.

I thought this place was very cool. The food was delicious and the margaritas rocked. What else could you ask for?

There are a lot of great dining choices on Vashon these days (finally) however the new Gusto Girls is my current favorite.  They've really done a lot of work to make the old Express Cuisine space a lively, hot place.   The small menu seems to change nightly.   I had a perfectly cooked tenderloin while my partner had a great tilapia dish.  The Coconut lime clams are exquisite and shouldn't be missed.  Wines are reasonable and well selected.   The new bartender is great.  Superb, friendly  service.

Gusto Girls has a fun, funky ambiance and great service. The menu is limited, but you can't go terribly wrong. The panko-encrusted portobello is going on my last meal menu. The wine selection is great, but if you don't see something you like, try the Kava Kava cocktail. The mashed potatoes are perfect. The chicken with bourbon sauce is good, if a little salty. The pan-fried tofu is delicious and spicy. The women's bathroom is in the top 5 best bathrooms ever.

This is my new favorite restaurant. My husband and I have been, oh about 4 times, every time we've walked out absolutely delighted with everything. The staff is witty, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is great too. The ladies restroom has a record player. I'm not sure when I have EVER put on a "men at work" record while I used the bathroom, but  I feel I should now incorporate that at home.  : )  We recently went in for my birthday, I ordered the salmon made in the "house preparation" which entails grilled salmon, with an herbed creme fraiche and a bit of black caviar. The flavors were amazing.  My husband's filet was cooked to perfection, and as we were too full to eat dessert, they sent me home with birthday dessert for later.  The wine suggestion made by our server was right on, and complemented our food perfectly. Cocktails are inventive!  Its a little pricey, for an average night, but worth it. We have yet to have anything but a stellar evening at Gusto girls.  I suppose we all might have a different interpretation of what "gusto" should encompass.  My definition would include doing something with  vitality and passion! Gusto girls really hits the mark. YES!
